no the board will warp to the desired shape. This is very common practice.
This is more than common, it's a daily occurrence on every build. Nothing will split or break.
Maybe but the fact that it did not split means it is wet and will be trained to be bent.
Yes, every carpenter knows this trick
Both boards are turned the wrong way. If you look at the end grain, they should be facing the other way toward the blocks
i realized the other issues with this (tension in the wood, potentially splitting it by drilling into the end grain, etc) but i was not aware that wood had a front and back side to the grain longways. if you have the time could you explain why that is? i love learning.

…or placing a screw into the end of a 2x4.
Don't do this with dry wood unless you want to take a trip to split street
when you don't have a tractor or a excavator
Old masters 50 years ago connected wooden structures without self-tapping screws using so-called “Dowel joints”.
Well they wasted their time
If you bust out dowels clamps and wood glue on this project, better hope nobody's around cuz they're going to be laughing their ass off...

Why are you using drywall screws for an exterior application
Prolly cause he doesn’t want to waste good screws on like a demo? Idk still kinda weird but I can sort of get it.
Doesn't even matter about the interior or exterior. It's the fact that it has no structural integrity
@isaacmai7961 but it's not just a demo. Plus, even if it was a demo, he could take the screws out and save them for later. And people on the internet will take things as they see them. So, if they see he used those screws, then they will use those screws as well.
@@Nameentered Not really bro. The screws will be worn in some way, even just slightly, by screwing and unscrewing them. And if the people on the internet don’t know how to do this, I will also bet that they couldn’t differentiate between different types of screws anyways.
The only drywall screw that was used was the one that he put in for leverage and took out. The other two are screws for structural purpose.
Definitely depends on WHY it's like that, though. If the lumber is slightly warped, then that's one thing, but if it's bc the concrete blocks are shifting/bulging, that's not going to do much of anything even temporarily. Specifics are MUCH more helpful when giving "tips." Just saying.
This is so inspiring!
