I really like what you have done. I don't have any problems with the cluster that came with my 20 plate Cooper S so I am unlikely to change it to the digital one but having said that, I may change my mind in the future. I didn't even know it was an easy enough DIY job, apart from the coding.

Car Creations Yes, would really love the digital cluster for that reason. That, and it just looks more modern! I have a 2019 with the 8.8” touchscreen nav, so I imagine my install/coding would be nearly identical to yours.
Yeah it would be exactly the same. Just use a magnetic screwdriver so you dont loose the screws!! Haha 😂

We get our Cooper S end of December and it comes standard with the digital dash but to honest I prefer the analogue!
Congratulations! It shouldn’t be that hard to buy the analog and retrofit it. If it bothers you when you get it, look into it. If you sold the digital one, you might end up making money haha

I use a AppleCar Play interface that mediates between my HeadUnit & Display.I also use a 3rd Party amplifier from BimmerCode>Match PP86DSP that connects & mediates between my Head unit & Speakers.My HeadUnit itself does not have MOST feature.Can i retrofit the digital cluster?.
My vehicle does not come with a MOST feature.Can i retrofit a MOST interface onto the HeadUnit?.
My 3rd Party MATCH PP86DSP amplifier quadlock harness has an option for inserting MOST cable, but my headunit does not have the MOST feature.Will this retrofit work?.

Nice! Same year as my other MINI! Yeah that will work really well, and you wont need the MOST cable as you have a heads up display.
For those who want to do this mod. If you don't have HUD, check you have the MOST connector behind the nav screen. My 2019 JCW didn't have the connector so I couldn't do this retrofit.

Do have the 8.8" touchscreen in your mini? I think the MOST connector is only on the touchscreen minis.
@@robetus I have seen people without the touch screen installing it, but maybe it’s the smaller non touchscreen that doesn’t have it. It’s easy enough to check though by pulling it out. Should only take 15 minutes.

Can the MOST PORT, on the HeadUnit be shared between the Digital Amplifier in the rear & the Speedometer using a MOST splitter?.
I believe that's how you would do it, however Im sorry, I didn't have to directly deal with that so not 100% sure. Ill check with some of my MINI friends to see if they had to deal with that and have an answer.
Great video! Very helpful as I plan to upgrade soon. Although, as someone who details cars, I did cringe when you were picking up and placing tools on the hood of the car.
Thanks! Yeah… a few have said that. It had protection on it so didn’t think it mattered and liked the shot, but it’s probably still not the best idea.
Great Job! Just one question how to deal with a software/firmware upgrade in istep for your car? The installation of the display is no a standard in your vehicle equiptment and when MINI Service perform the upgrade during service or vehicle recall it would fail I guess. So how to deal with that? As far as I know since 07/2020 it is not possible anymore to add any upgrades of your car to your vehicle equiptment settings at MINI/BMW.
All the cars we added the display too were older than 07/2020, but I had not heard that about it. We normally just code it to the car and the dealerships dont ever have an issue as it. Do you have a source for that, would be interested looking into it.
@@carcreationsyt The source is my BMW dealership. He told me only official supported equipment (like when I would upgrade to the JCW breaks) can be added to the control units in the vehicle (istep).
But equipment which is not officially supported for my car they can't add it. Due to warranty reasons and if there is an update I need to restore it first to the original before I can get the update, otherwise it will fail. (I'm already out of warranty).
Maybe it is just my dealership who doesn't really know about this at all or maybe it is country restricted with upgrading. I don't know.
It would be interesting what your local or other dealership says about this situation.
My 2020 mini countryman se, came with HUD and top head unit with big screen, but analog cluster.
To retrofit is just coding in this case? After swap the cluster of course

That’s correct. It’s easier as you won’t have to run a wire through your dash.

Thanks! I believe so! Just check the back of your head unit to see if it has the port for a MOST cable. If so, you should be good!

Thanks so much, your welcome! It should work great on your car! Check to make sure you have the MOST port on the back of your head unit, because if you don’t you might not get all the features.

Yes that’s correct.
You have to check that there is a most port under it though. Some head units don’t have it.

If your current head unit has a most cable port, yes. If you currently have a heads up display, also yes!
I’m about to buy the 2021 mini sport and don’t want to pay for the nav+ pack just to get the digital cockpit. Pretty poor a 20k+ car doesn’t come standard with it. How much is it to buy the cockpit? And would it mess up my warranty by getting it installed?

I bought mine from Bimmer Fixes as it used to be hard to get. You can get them from MINI but they are often back ordered and need a product number. I think currently the best place to get them is eBay. I noticed a bunch there. Would this work on my US spec 2016 Cooper S with the basic radio?
If its the smaller orange screen, it is possible, but slightly more expensive and requires a bit more work. Anything can be retrofitted though! Send me a DM on instagram or an email if you are interested
Hi, I would love to have a feature called "AutoHold" on the MINI Cooper. I see that models of BMW have this switch next the electronic parking brake that enables this feature.I search for the connector on the BMW & MINI for the electronic brake & Holding option and the connector appears same, excepting a few pins.Do U know if the "AutoHold e-Parking Brake" switch from a BMW can be custom retrofitted in the same connector as the "e-Parking brake" of MINI Cooper?.

Hey so this seems super interesting to try except I have a cooper s and not a jcw. Mine is a f56 though with the 6.5 inch infotainment. Is this possible for my mini or do I need to upgrade another thing first?
Sounds like you should be all set to upgrade! Do you have a heads up display? If not, you will need the additional MOST cable to connect the display to the head unit (your entertainment screen).
I would need the most cable, i Knew that. I just didn't know if I had the most update to date infotainment to properly work with the guage screen. Btw where can you buy it? I can't see to find in in stock

Hello, thanks for the question. I believe you have to code it to have either the gp or jcw logo. By default it doesn’t have anything there.

We don’t use plate numbers where I live so not sure what year you are mentioning, however this will fit any f series mini. Late 2014+
Question, my MINI has head up display. If I want to do this retrofit, do I need to connect the MOS cable or just install the new cluster and code it?
You don't need to worry about the MOST cable as there is an extra cable that connects from the old cluster to the heads up display that does the same thing. Just make sure you get a cluster that supports the heads up display

I think you may need the file, but its definitely possible.
Can i use used new mini cooper screen for my f55 mini?
Unfortunately if you try to use a used cluster you can get a tamper error and have to remove the cluster and then bring it to a dealership and pay a lot to remove the error. Only get a brand new cluster or one that has been virginized.

Unfortunately I don’t think you can unless you change the entire transmission as the tap one uses electronics and the older one like mine uses wires.
If you figure out a way that proves me wrong, please let me know! I would love to do it too!

Thanks for replying , figured it out finally, since my car only has the seat buckled sensor in the driving seat I think that it was coded for 4 seats , I will let you know if I need any assistance but everything seems fine now

Hello, thanks so much! Unfortunately I don’t believe it’s compatible with any R series MINIs. I have seen aftermarket digital clusters for the R series, but haven’t been a fan of them.

Hello Ethan. Perhaps you can help me. I just purchased a 2017 2 door S Mini. The speedo and tach combo appears to have spots (dried moisture) on the inside of the faces. It's driving me nuts to see those spots. Is there an easy way to get those faces removed so they can be cleaned on the insides??? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
I believe you are able to although haven't done it myself. There should be some screws behind it that will open the cluster. Be careful though as it may have tamper protection. It may be easier to get a virginized one online.

The MOST port on the HeadUnit, does it remain unengaged and connect only to the Digital cluster?.The MOST port on the HeadUnit, is that not already engaged to the Harmon Amplifier in the rear via the 40 Pin Fakra connector?.Do U link to the MOST port on the HeadUnit via the 40 PIN fakra connector?
Good question, I didn't have to deal with that on my car so am not 100% sure. If I find out, I will let you know.

Is this possible for a mini one ? I ordered from the shop and the sales man didn't tell me my car doesn't come with this....
If its a brand new MINI, it should be compatible. To double check, you could drop the screen and check to see if there is a port for the MOST cable, but I think you would be good. You can see where the port is on my setup at 6:36

Yes, as long as your head unit has the MOST port, the cluster will be compatible
I highly doubt it as my car is a 2013 Cooper S but would this be possible in the older gen models or only 2014 and on?

It would just make it a lot easier for you. All you would have to do is replace the cluster. No fussing with MOST cables and the head unit.

Oooh cool ! 2 quick questions .... what about the mileage ? Is it stored on the car and not the cluster ? Also you say a laptop and cable , I have all that , but do I need a program (like ista etc) on my computer for them to remotely code my car/cluster ? Cheers .... Jon 👍🏻
I believe they are stored on both and you need to sync them up and then code the car to accept the cluster. I didn’t do the coding on mine though. Bimmer Fixes remoted into my computer and did the coding super quick. If you tell him I sent you, he might be able to get you a really good deal on the coding.

@@jonthebarber As far as I am aware the "EEPROM holds the VIN number and last mileage. As long as the actual true mileage on the vehicle is HIGHER than the KOMBI, the KOMBI will adopt the "new" mileage from the car. Can i use a Most Cable Bypass & make this Retrofit, in case my HeadUnit did not come with a MOST feature?.
Ill try to answer all your questions here. So from what I understand, the retrofit will still work without the MOST cable, but you will just miss out on some features. Ex. Map Directions. I am not 100 % sure if the MOST cable would would work with a bypass or 3rd party interface from a coding perspective. BimmerFixes would be able to let you know for sure though. You also may be able to retrofit a whole new head unit that has the touchscreen, MOST cable interface, and everything, but that would be something to look into. It would probably depend on budget.

@@varmaTrini From what I understand, I think it would and in that case you might not need the MOST cable anyway. Although I dont want to say 100% as this wasnt the situation with my car. If the car (Cooper 1.5 2019) does not have HUD and the Head Unit does not have GPS (my HeadUnit is HU-B, 6.5”). MOST Cable to Digital Cluster should not be needed. Right?
While I know the head unit is used for Navigation, it may be also used for showing music tracks too, not 100% sure though.
If you dont need either of those, then you should be good without it, however I would check with BimmerFixes, if you are going to use him, just to be sure.
He codes a ton of them so has experienced every situation.

Does anyone know if there are several versions of the digital cluster? I am trying to retrofit my 2019 JCW and was told that they needed to pull the current analog gauge to get a “code” from it in order to order the “right cluster version” but I would think that as long as the coding is done correctly, the digital cluster should work. Thanks for any help.
There are diesel, electric, and petrol variations of it. However, you are right they shouldn’t need to pull it in order to get a code from it. When we sell them we code them to your vin and then remote into your car and finalize the coding after installation.
If you don’t have a heads up display you do need to pull of your Center screen and check the head unit to see if it has a most port.

What would be the correct part number I’d need to order for a USA gas model 2019 JCW?
When you install all these extras, what type of device do you code it with, do you have to use a computer, or do you use the code apps on your phone? 👍
We code it with a laptop and a program called Esys. It is an advanced piece of software so may be better getting someone to remote in to do the coding.
In uk that’s actually illegal so we won’t be able to do same in uk because the car’s mileage is digitally built in to the instrument cluster and uneditable so you can’t edit it and say it has less mileage changing the display completely will show it with 0 miles if you put. A new display in will show low mileage like it’s new plus the instrument cluster needs to be registered to the vehicle for the mileage it isn’t as simple as change it over some cars even have a system where it knows if the instrument cluster has been changed out and it will know if you put a used one in with less mileage too as some have computer memory where it knows that mileage isn’t correct to the ecu as it will keep a data record of the mileage as you drive only time it can be changed is with salvage record certification stating the mileage has changed due to instrument cluster change because of crash but if your caught with a changed instrument cluster and no proof of why it was changed you can get prosecuted and on yours most of the error codes will be because of all I’ve just said the system will know it’s a different instrument cluster and it won’t be programmed for the features on your mini
Yeah it’s a big issue if you install a used cluster. Will throw a tamper error like you mentioned.
However in our case we used a brand new cluster that takes on the millage of the car, then code the car to accept it. As soon as we plug in the new cluster it takes on the miles and can’t be used again.
All legal and won’t cause any issues.
Analog is king!
Ill probably feel that way in a few years when everything is electric!

Can I do this on my Mini Clubman 2016?
Check to make sure your head unit has a port for the MOST cable, or you have a heads up display. If yes, then you should be all set! I have a 2016 clubman too which I might install the unit at some point.
