I love those trim piece tools. It makes everything so much easier. But everytime that plastic cracks, I think "oh, no what did I just break?". I would freak out to do that on my own, I am good at things, but my extent of messing with a electrical component is installing puddle lights. You guys are beyond brave.
Haha 😆 yes exactly, there was a few nail biting moments... Although the trim was actually quite easy here compared to the cable connectors!
Great, I did the same thing on the 2017 F56. This new system is really different and so much more enjoyable to use.
I also changed the digital speedometer and LCI2 turn signals, now it's a new car!
Yeah, it really changes the car! I change the digital cluster in my other MINI, but havnt had a chance in this car yet. Hope to do that soon!

Hi Neo, did you get yours from Bimmer-Tech as well? Was it difficult to change out the selector module as the console is different to Ethans mini.
Bimmertech is telling me there is no way to do this upgrade on a 2017 convertible

I did the upgrade on my F60 & coded it. Also to note is the MOST port needs to have the RED light coming out on the side that has the "locking clip".If your MOST cable has not been made well, you then need to switch the cables at the end it plugs into the cluster.There are tiny clips at the back of the MOST cable clip which when raised, will release the MOST cables from their "clip casing".You also may need to raise the white plastic tab, on the other side of MOST clip to release the 2 cables.If your light is coming out from the wrong side, you can do this to correct your MOST cable.Its easier to do this on the side of the Digital cluster, than on the side of HeadUnit.If your MOST cable is not emitting light on the correct cable, the eSys coding software will not be able to find the KOMBI/Digital cluster!.Hope it helps.

Good job. Just a small tip for others. Better not to pull the trims from the air vents that way. Pull the whole vent inc the trim out in one. Takes a bit of wrestling to get them out complete, but saves busting them.

Does everything work? Even the forecast feature? By far the best “how to” I have seen. Thank you a million for sharing it.
No worries! Everything does work, except features that require a MINI Connected subscription, however if you had that connected to your car before the upgrade, it would work with this. That is all hosted on BMW's servers so we can't do much about that unfortunately.
I’d love Apple Car play in my F56 ordered to spec 2014 . We have that new media centre in our 2021 Clubman that was ordered with most of the options.

Thanks so much! I did debate doing that, but its super easy to brick your couple grand head unit and there is a bunch of variables that could make it not work. If you check out the minif56 forum online, I think people have described there how to do it.

Some HeadUnits also have additional ports for DAB Radio up & close to where the two FM radio ports exist.

Its definitely not for everyone, those cables are very hard to disconnect.

Hi Ethan, i lost my door chimes/seatbelt chime once i got this installed. I also lost the ring circle color as it was. Only time its completely lit up is wen i hit the breaks and it turns red. Normally, only a small piece (bottom left ‘corner’) is green the rest is not lit. At times it shows that same green in the one ‘corner’ and then a yellow or purple section lights up, yes while the bottom right hand corner is still lit….not to mention, the radio doesn’t work :(

Awesome video! I know you said you can do this to any cooper, but i wanted to ask just in case if it would work with a 2012-2014 era mini countryman without a nav system already.
If its an R60, then unfortunately it wont work. You will need an F60 or other F series for it to fit
@@stiksandstones BMW started production of F60 since 2016 releasing the 2017 model for a MINI Countryman... from the range of years @W Lieb mentioned that is an R60 without a doubt...
The old white cable can be populated into the 2nd USB port on the Unit and can be used to drive power to a USB port in the Dash or Glove box.I am not sure if that can be coded to play Media files as well.I was able to get power through that port.
Oh interesting! That could at least power a dash cam or something

I wish Mini would support the even older cars in the same way. I've got an R60 Countryman and it would be great to get CarPlay without having to go dodgy Android aftermarket. I love the way Porsche is supporting cars all the way back to the 90s.

Hi! Nice video :) I‘m currently in the process of purchasing a „new“ mini. Unfortunately most of the ones I‘m looking at have the smaller screen (cooper, 4 doors, mostly 2016).
I was wondering how to tell if the smaller display has touch or not? Because I‘m not really sure ….

Thank you!! Usually anything 2018 and newer is touchscreen. It is hard to tell though as even the ones with the upgraded interface can end up being a non touch screen
i do want to change a new screen for my F60 ,but after your video i decided that i am not the person can do that huge job ! lol
Yeah its definitely a large job! You may be able to get a shop near you to install it if you show them the video, but it depends on the shop.
I see that the newer BMW have a "AutoHold-eParking" switch which has the same type of connector as a MINI Cooper "eParking brake switch".On the BMW switch it have 11 to 12 pins on 2 rows in the switch, while on the Mini it has 10 pins(6+4) on the switch. I was wondering if there would be any way possible to enable the AutoHold feature on a MINI Cooper F series, considering that BMW & MINI both also share cables & systems.
It’s possible, I would worry more about the coding. That may not be possible

it is a pity that you did not show whether there is a plug from the central speaker behind the main unit. I would love to change the speakers for the better and start with the center speaker. later I had harman kardon and in the current one I do not have 😭

Did you have to buy a new usb cable to run to the USB media port from the head unit?.I believe you can actually chop the plastic tabs on the old white cable and slot it into the USB port.What do you think?.
We did buy a new one, you may be able to mod the old one, but it’s fibre optics so better safe than sorry
On the new interface of MINI OS, i see that there is also an option to upload music directly into the Head unit. Have u done that?. Can U tell us how its done?.Is it files transferred via BT (or) USB port?.Thanks.
Yes there is! I used a USB stick. There may be a way with bluetooth, but not sure. I might do a UA-cam shorts on the process next week.

Hello, thanks for watching! Sorry for the late response! It is not possible to update to id6 without having a ton of issues. You would have to get the new system. You may be able to upgrade the software to id5 and splitscreen carplay if you have a nbtevo unit. Hey mate ! Apart from the touchscreen on the new LCI2 screen that has this software by default. Is there any difference in brightness, contrast at all with the new display ? Tempted to buy a used LCI2 touchscreen and add it in but if I can simply update the screen on my 8 inch to have the software and its literally the same panels minus the fancy new piano touch buttons then I might be wasting my money lol. Thanks bud.
It is a new panel, but I would not say the quality is much different. If you have an 8.8" touchscreen now, there is a high likely hood we can update the software! To find the navigation version go to maps, hit the option button on your controller, go to version (or something to that affect) then send me a picture of the version info.

My USB port on the 2018 F60 is a stand alone port, without the auxilary pin port.Do u think i would still need a new cable to make connection with NBT head unit?.
Good question. If you where to upgrade, I would say still get the new one as it’s longer to fit around the bigger head unit. Although if your saying you have a 2018, you probably have a touchscreen. If that’s the case you only need the software upgrade.
Is it possible to flash the new os on a 2019 JCW with a 6.5” touchscreen without a CarPlay and maps ? I have however installed a retrofit apple carplay with a back camera.
Yes it is! It also may add wireless CarPlay.

Im thinking about getting a 2022 Mini S 3 door hardtop with the Harman Kardan sound upgrade. I heard that they (Mini or HK) have eliminated the 1/8” (3.5mm) Aux input jack. Can you confirm that and is there any way to add that back in?
Yeah I believe your right.
Is there a reason you need aux instead of plugging in your phone via usb?
You should be able to fit the piece from an older car in as long as your head unit has the port.

The only way to do it, is to do an oem retrofit. The other way is to get a mmi box and connect it to that. I recently did a video on the android mmi box, that will work for the camera upgrade.

It would definitely work the same! The only issue right now is finding the units as MINI wont sell them to us
@@carcreationsyt typical Mini, these components are difficult to get a hold of. Making it impossible for ppl to upgrade their units for better navigation etc. They need to be sued.
I upgraded from the Entry Nav to NBT EVO HU head unit.I had to shave the tabs around the USB connector and rotate it 180degrees before i plugged it in.On the display cable, i sliced the power wires from the connector and made them separate>I then rotated the cable 180 degrees just as the usb connector & also plugged in the power cables with the black wire facing forward. Apparently the NBT Evo Display & USB cables are different in pin configuration to the Entry Nav Basic media Head Unit.The above method is just a modification to make the old cables work with the new Head Unit.The USB & Display ports now face and connect from the forward while the rest of cables connect from behind the head unit.

Did you have any trouble getting the trim round the idrive and the aux / usb plate back
The Aux/USB trim need to be approached by digging/removing the trim around the radio and then working your way downwards.You will encounter a few screws and some strong metal clips before you reach the Aux/USB trim.Not difficult.@@pauljohnson4052
Are us saying the MOST cable from the Fakra connector, connects to the new 8.8" display?.Does not the NBT EVO HeadUnit have its own Display port just like the old HeadUnit?.

I see that your automatic gear selector doesn't show any metal part, like a lot of them do. How have you done this, is it a replacement boot?
That's a good question! It came like that with the car so not sure if it was done after the fact. I have seen other cars like that though, so maybe its a trim feature

Yeah, I believe we did that, however I think my coding specialist coded that before we got it.
I have a 2017 Mini Clubman S, and am looking at doing this very same upgrade, only for Android Car Play. Where could I find ALL these parts? Not totally sure that I can do it thought since I have the base model? Only the "S" model not a JCW or ALL4...

Can '22 software be somehow installed in cars with old 8.8 (NON touch) screen - obviously touch screen functions won't work, but can it be done?
I believe there may be a way to do it, however I think it would suffer from low RAM and could be quite unstable.

Hi,GoodDay.I have plugged a MOST cable into my "new upgraded NBT EVO ID6 HeadUnit" on my MINI Cooper F60 2018 countryman, that i recently upgraded to. Am i supposed to see light at the other end of the MOST Fibre cable to know that the MOST is active/working?.I am not seeing my MOST cable light up at the other end.Is that a problem?.I intend to retrofit the New 6WB digital cluster in near future.
I don’t think you would see the light of the fiver optics.
I installed the Touch ECU on my iDrive & also professionally coded my MINI Cooper F60 on the HeadUnit.The touch feature is not activated yet, while my retrofit tech says it should work.What should i do to know if the touch feature is working.Any option that needs to enable on the menu screens?.I use the NBT EVO ID6 headunit flashed to the newest MINI Connected LCI software.
When you mean by touch feature? The idrive touch controller or the touch screen

Cool install. 1 did not install a GPS antenna (not a wifi dongle), 2 did not install the OABR connector to be able to code/flash the unit in the car for any future updates. 3. you need to update the BDC to be able to use the themes.. who ever sold the unit to you could at least inform you :)
I didnt know about the BDC! Thank you! Will need to look into that, the greenish blue theme isnt my favourite.

Have tried upgrading the mini cooper s entertainment system which has premium sound system? Is it possible or any different ?
This one didnt have it, but you shouldn't have an issue. There will simply be another cable to plug into the head unit. If your looking at doing that, make sure the head unit has the Harmon Kardon ports.

The iDrive controller plugs into a Touch Control Module ECU.C an u tell me where this Touch ECU module is held in place?.
If I am reading your question right, I believe it is included in the large plug you put into the head unit with all the little cables on it. Not sure of the official name
@@carcreationsyt There is actually a little ECU unit that connects via a Y cable between the iDrive unit & HeadUnit.This ECU unit allows you to write on your Idrive surface to choose a song/artist/phone directory etc.The part# 6582-9320275.Thanks.

Unfortunately its only compatible with F series MINIs

What are the exact functions of the USB port1 & USB Port2 on the new head unit?.Which is meant to be used as a power port & which is meant to be used as a media port?.Do they both need to be populated?.
I dont believe both need to be populated, could be wrong though. Some of the newer Countryman and Clubmans have USB ports for the rear passengers, so I imagine that the other one goes to that?
@@carcreationsyt Thank you.I was able to plug a USB cable into the 2nd Port on the HeadUnit and it works, except that it can only be used to Power/charge a device.I was not able to use the 2nd USB port for Media.

Did u have to disconnect the negative terminal of battery before u swap the head unit?.Can U swap the headunit with battery connected?.

Hi, I'm asking here because I haven't found anything about it and maybe you who know a lot can help me, my f54 has manual climate control, but when unhooking the controls I noticed that they are the same pins as the automatic one, having found one from a mini f54 crashed for little money, I'd be curious to see if it goes the same….can you tell me something about it? maybe our f 54 already has all the sensors needed to do the job in plus and play? Good question! I believe some people have found it to be plug and play. In saying that, I have not heard of any issues. If I were you, they dont cost a lot on ebay, find one and see if you can install it! You wont wreck anything and if it doesnt work, it shouldnt be too hard to add the right equipment. Let me know if it works!
