Hi there! I wrote a few months ago to thank you for your videos as they would save me time the day I got the Mini Cooper I had ordered. Well, I got my new car in March and all is going smoothly. Even details such as where to click to zero the number of kilometres (I saw you press behind the digital cluster) were all valuable. Keep in mind that because of a strict Covid-19 lock down at that time, the dealer who handed the car over to me was not allowed to provide the customary review of the functioning of the vehicle. He kept a two meter distance behind a glass shield. I was thus dependent on your videos. I have the manual but it can be somewhat confusing. The Mini Cooper is not a ''city car''. It is a car. I travel though out Holland, Belgium and Germany (distances in Europe are not what they are in Canada) and I can say that its solidity and the confidence with which it holds the road are impressive. The feeling is fantastic. This is my first Mini. I got it with all the optional extras except the armrest which I did not want. One thing I have not worked out is how to delete an address in the GPS. Any tip? Again, many thanks indeed!

Great advice on using Green in slippery conditions 🙂. I have a F56LCI JCW it has the head up display so I think with the digital dash might be too much. Good video, thanks

Thank you very much ! We were trying to figure out whether we would still need the Heads Up Display in our replacement Mini but your comprehensive video shows this has all the features. Only thing left to wonder about is whether the HUD is better positioned to glance at.
Thanks, glad you found it helpful! I might be able to help out a little if you have to chose between the two. I do think the HUD is easier to see. I had one in a Cooper s I had a few years ago and ended up NEVER looking at my speed cluster. I installed the digital cluster in my car as its a lot easier to retrofit than the HUD. Hope that helps a bit, but if you can, test drive a car with both.

The good news is, if you buy a car with one installed, it’s quite easy to swap it with the analog one.

Hi, me again. I will get my new 3-door Mini Cooper 136 hp in the next couple of months. Your videos are helping my gain time - hit the ground running so to speak. Details such as how to zero the km count (with that click in the back) is an example of what I mean. I watched the video where you upgraded to the new digital cluster. I do not have the wherewithal (or courage) to engage in such a feat. I watched intensely despite that it does not apply to my case. Mine comes with the new digital cluster. I ordered all the features in the package offered by the dealer with the exception of two: the exterior mirror package and the front armrest. The former is intended to assist in lining up the car along side a sidewalk - I think the salesperson said the exterior mirror moves and looks down to focus on the sidewalk. I do not need that assistance so I left it out.

Thanks for the video, I watched your installation video and decided to order the digital dash for my 19 JCW. It's on order from Germany, takes two weeks for the dealer to get it here in the US - cost me $492 plus $25 shipping - not bad at all. Thanks for the tip for resetting the trip meter, I was wondering how it's done.

Due to discontinued semiconductor mini is adding the old dashboard to the new models that to be honest I prefer more as it suits the car better

Yeah it’s definitely a preference thing, both systems have their pros and cons.
Yeah, I can confirm that too. If you order a car in the UK now, you are unlikely to get this fancy display dash sue to semiconductor shortages.

Oh dude, with the Mini standard nav screen how do you get the direction of travel view instead of the overhead map view? I've never been able to figure that out. I mean like you I also use Waze but when driving through some of the darker corners of Europe this isn't an option. Just found your channel and I like your content. Great work!
I was in a field so it was just showing the direction of travel as there where no roads near by. When your on the road, you will see the map. Hope that helps!

Thank you so much for this video. Due to COVID shortage Digital dash wont' make it to my 2022 Cooper S. I was just really curious how the old actually looks like. Its cool and getting kind of vintage vibes on me :) The fuel gauge feels downright outdated on the other hand.
Glad you found it helpful! Yeah do still do like the old one, but I think they slightly upgraded the gas gauge now.
Do you think you would want to retrofit the new digital cluster when you get the car?
@@carcreationsyt Good question actually. I do find the new one slithgly less readable than the ones with needles. I need to see if lack the screen. By any chance do you have a proper picture / video of the "old" cluster in action ? I want to see how dated the small black screens actually looks in action

Thanks so much for watching! Congrats on the new car! If you are wanting the digital cluster to freshen up the look of the car and make it feel more modern, go for it! If you want it so you can get more functionality, the heads up display has much of what the cluster offers. Hope that helps!

Weird request mate, but I'm thinking about doing this upgrade as my mum is having a hard time reading the digital speed readout at a glance on the standard unit. I'm hoping the digital cluster has considerably larger numbers. Is there any way you could measure the height of the '0' in mm when stationary so I can compare before deciding if I should upgrade or not? Many thanks and great vid :)

You have to make sure you get a cluster that has hud support.
You won’t need to run a most cable making it much easier!

Welcome to the channel!! I would be careful about coding it yourself as you could be in trouble if you messed up. I got BimmerFixes to remote in and code mine. If you mention the channel he will give you a discount!
Simple question for you... When you change tracks from the center display, does your digital cluster show you the new song name? I know on mine, you only get the track name when you use the steering wheel buttons. Just wondering before I do another coding deep dive in E-sys. Thanks!

Yeah, when your not on a road, you only get an arrow. It does point to the closest road, so has been useful once or twice, but wish there was more to it.

How much more than the arrows is it showing in the display? Kinda like at the BMW F series?
Yeah, a lot like the BMW F series. It show intersections, lane splitting, what lanes you need to be in, etc. Its basically the same view you get on the heads up display.

so on my new digital dash, I recently changed my oil and I have been trying to reset it, I keep pressing on the reset button but nothing shows up, I have only the ignition on, could it be a coding problem? or is there any other way I can reset itm please note that my car says that there is still 200km before I need my oil changed, however the service message still pops up
Sorry for the late response! I believe you can reset it with Carly or BimmerLink.
I noticed that your odometer did not reset to 0. Did you have to code that back to the previous number? Or did it come up automatically?
When you install the new cluster is takes on the old mileage. There is some coding needed for the car to accept the cluster though.

Hey, thanks for coming by the channel! Unfortunately the cluster isn’t compatible with the r series as they use different software. You might be able to find an aftermarket digital dash for it though.
I have mini Cooper s from August 2019, can I install it? I heard the navigation should be nbt evo, don't works in entrynav2? Is this correct?
Mine was a 2019 and it worked fine, an I have also seen it on older f series cars so either systems should be ok. The biggest thing is, do you have a heads up display? If not then you will need to pull the head unit and check to make sure you have the port for the MOST cable to be plugged into. If you have that, then your all set! I have an installation video on this channel if your interested too.

@@neomorpheo5036 No worries, glad to help!! Yeah on my other video, I believe I show exactly where to look for the port. I think every full screen entertainment system should have it and a a few of the half screen ones do too.
3:23 You have 'Navigation' in the Instrument Panel options, I don't have this. Although because I have the HUD, I can toggle the 'Navigation' option in the HUD display menu to switch the turn prompts between the HUD & Digital Cluster. But... that means I cannot disable turn prompts from both. Should I have the option in the Instrument Panel options like you do for your non-HUD car?
Thats a bit odd! I am going to have to play around with this in my car and at a dealer near me to see if I can see what its supposed to be.
@@carcreationsyt I think it's how it's supposed to be. If the option existed in both menus then people would complain that the navigation prompts don't appear in both HUD & cluster (as it's not possible).

I have a basic 2020 Mini Cooper s , basic media with no NAV , It looks crazy but not sure worth doing it as I will get rid of it in 2 and half years
Yeah it might not... I have heard of people retrofitting maps and stuff! On a newer car it makes more sense but on older ones, you might as well buy a new car with those options.
Just ordered mine and due to there being no chips they aren’t making them with the new digital dash I’m so sad was really looking forward to it :(

I got a digital cluster too and I wanted to ask, is it me or does the screen look out of focus? It feels like there is a "protective film" or something on it that makes it look a bit blurry. Specially the middle portion of the cluster.

There was a long thread on FB a few months go on that topic. Some people saying it was blurry, others who said it wasn't. I wonder if it depends on when it was manufactured. Mine doesn't look blurry, but I dont have the best eyes... lol

I would check to make sure you have the spot to plug in the MOST cable, but YES it should be compatible!

Will the Digital Cluster work on a 2015 F56 Mini Cooper S (My Vehicle)
It should 100% if you have a HUD, if not then you can double check to make sure by pulling the head unit and checking behind to see if it has the port for the MOST cable.

How much it cost
It costed me around 1000 cad but have seen them for around 600 since then. Coding is around 200.
Your average is about 34mpg, i would assume US galons? So about 7 l/100km? Thats pretty good. I'm at about 9 with mine, driving not-so-hard ;)
Yeah that is using the US measurement. The biggest reason for it being so good is that I had a 1 1/2 hr commute for work. Since then that number has been steadily getting worse... haha
@@carcreationsyt Yeah, i get that! And i have one problem, the terrain here is pretty rough, a lot of steep hills, even in my comute to Lisbon on the motorway. But its pretty nice non the less :D

@@pefpedroso haha yeah steep hills would do that! As soon as I get on a B road, you can see the fuel economy dropping! Cant help stomping on it around corners haha. From the pictures I have seen of Lisbon, looks like a beautiful place!

It is quite nice here, especialy the outsquirts of Lisbon, around Sintra and Cascais (last night i went to Cascais because the new Ferrari Roma is being presented here, to jounalists and/or buyers - a lot of brands come here to present their cars bacause of the scenary, prices and because there's Estoril Circuit nearby). Worth a visit ;)
But you have some awesome roads there as well, Canada seem very very beautiful for everything i can see!
Haha yeah exactly! Sounds amazing, definitely high on my list of places to visit. Yeah I love it here, especially where I live in the mountains. Was filming a video the other day and The sun was glistening beautiful off the fresh snow on the trees. Had to remind myself this is a car channel!

Definitely depends on the look you want to go for with your car. Actually, if you buy a new car with the screen, you can use the same method to downgrade to an older style cluster.

Do you think it’s worth the money?
I would say that if you don’t have a heads up display, then it adds a bunch of really helpful features and also refreshes the car to feel new. However if you do have the hud then you already have those features and it may not be worth it to you. I guess the question is, do you want it just for looks or do you want extra features?
