I honestly don’t care about the name change. Keep the quality and price and it’s all good.
100% agree
Their customer experience agents are amazing. I'm cool with a hipper name change.
My responses to your questions: Shorter names simply test better in market research studies. Sports is a loaded term and makes most people think of sporting goods associated with traditional team sports. The website they wanted is currently not available. So many household name brands have changed or shortened their names. Great Pacific Iron Works changed to Patagonia, Blue Ribbon Sports changed to Nike, Apple Computer changed to Apple, Dell Computers changed to Dell, Pete's Super Submarines changed to Subway, Brad's Drink changed to Pepsi, and the list goes on. From a marketing perspective this allows them the freedom to not be limited to outdoor products that don't necessarily fall into a "Sports" category, and from a branding perspective it makes for a much cleaner logo that is less wordy and not limiting to pigeonholed perceptions.
Corporations don't change their names without a compelling reason. I would expect to see more headlines from Teton soon.
There is no compelling reason any corporation changes its name for the most part. It's mostly marketing people justifying their useless salaries. In this case one of the marketing slugs must have manoverd themselves into a upper decision making position.
@@scotts.2624 the marketing opportunity IS the compelling reason. Potentially, at least.
It's like Dunkin' Donuts going to Dunkin'. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it, Luke.
Yep, exactly.
They hired consultants lol
"Guys, how about this... Just... TETON! That'll $250k, thanks!"
Everyone is focused on DEI right now, but MBAs and "consultants" are usually even bigger parasitic grifts. Boeing is struggling under the weight of all of these right now.
You coined the phrase "outdoor adventuring?" Cmon man.
Yeah, I love Luke's content but I think it's a reach to say he coined the phrase.
lol. i was like wtf?
Lol,gotta love the ego.
I say BS to you coining the phrase a OA www.youtube.com/@FrozensAdventures has had that for years now so don't get too big for your britches here dude.
As to that where is it in your name brand??? I won't be holding my breath for an answer to that cuz it does not exist.
don't get to plagiarizing stuff or you will be your own undoing.
Teton sports makes sense. Just Teton I wouldn’t have a clue if didn’t know already. 🇨🇦
Same as REI for example, gotta be in the 'know' lol
But they're dropping the "Sports" part of the name. 🤔 It's now just Teton.
Depends, they might go full Tractor Supply.
BTW my dad used the term "outdoor adventure" before you were out of dippers.
Had me scared for a second, i've gotten some great gear from Teton over the years.
Any time a corporation says they are doing something to better reflect yada yada yada they mean the stuff they are going to sell is going to be profit maximizing crap.
Honestly, the inner middle schooler in me chuckles when I think of a company in the heart of Utah is named after the French word for ‘teat’ or ‘boob’.
I thought the same when Luke asked, “What does Teton mean?”, and likewise with a juvenile giggle…

I want to say thank you. Not only for the great reviews and adventure videos. But you sir have gotten me back into camping and going outdoors. I hope this comment finds you well and once again thank you so much for the motivation. At 50 years old I’m feeling younger again
Thank you, Luke, for continuing to keep us all updated on changes in the Outdoor Industry & products.
Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada
In my opinion, changing it to just TETON, leaves the door open in the future to maybe branch out into other areas of sales and marketing that aren’t under the umbrella of sports.
Name change doesn't bother me cause I've always just called em Teton. I have several of the packs and love them
Teton: offer adventure models, its fine. Please remember that many of us go car camping and are looking for good value, well made products.
I am with you. I think Teton gear would make a fine name. Teatime all by itself kind of doesn’t do anything for me. If I had not watched this video, I would have wondered Teton? Teton who? Teton what? etc..
When I hear Teton, I automatically think of the Gran Tetons, mountains, and the outdoors. I enjoy your videos. I'm amazed at how much rain you get in WNC.
Your channel does indeed show us and inspire us to adventure!
If I was advising them on branding, I would have advised them to do as they did. I think that they went with just Teton for a couple of reasons: 1) Teton (Teton Sports) is now an established name and can survive in an abbreviated fashion. For example, we all know who Osprey is - not need for "Osprey Outdoors" or something like that. Even new users asking about "Teton" will quickly hear that they are a good company with good products. 2) I suspect that they wanted the flexibility that comes from a shorter, less-descriptive name as it doesn't restrict their product offerings. This could allow them to broaden their product offerings under the more generic Teton name. In fact, Teton could become a holding company with various Teton entities underneath, should then chose to create specialized product offerings for various vertical markets. For example, they could add "Teton Outdoors" to encompass their hiking/camping equipment, but then add "Teton Lights" if they got into flashlight manufacturing as flashlights serve a multitude of indoor uses as well (although I'd probably still be buying Olight).
Your right! Teton Outdoors would be more accurate!
I'd love to hear more about any new gear from Teton! I had not thought about them recently, till I watched some of your videos wherein you discussed their gear. That re-ignited my interest. The name change is NOT ideal from an SEO standpoint. A search for "Teton" only is going to bring up a lot of noise. Teton Gear, Teton Lifestyle (also ambiguous, but a term they use, themselves, on their "About Us" page) Teton Adventures, any of those would be preferable from a potential customer's perspective, simply because searching "Teton" is not going to get you far, unless you have a specific item of Teton gear for which you've searched. I wouldn't call them a heritage company, simply because they haven't been around as long as some big names. However, they are certainly recognized for solid gear at a good (to very good) price point. The reputation they've already garnered may help carry them through what is, in my opinion, an ill-advised name change. One word may seem stronger, but if a new generation of adventurers (campers, etc.) can't find you in a crowded internet landscape, that strength will go unnoticed. That's bad for business. Really bad, as younger folks getting into the out (lol - a "Home" movie pun, iykyk) are probably a big contingent of their target customer, or should be, due to price,. Those folks may not know which article of gear to search, if they don't know Teton already. So my verdict is a very good company made a very bad choice on their biggest brand capital: their name. Thanks for asking, and posting about this!
I bought a ton of their gear and love it, and never even knew there was a word after Teton in their name 😂
I think it’s a good move to have shorten the name. When I first heard of the company I thought they carried other sports equipment besides backpacking and camping with the word sports in it. Baseball, Hockey, etc…
I Just started backpacking after a 30 + year hiatus. A lot of things have changed. I purchased the Teton scout 3400 last year. One because it was cheap and I didn’t know how much backpacking I was really going to do. I used it for the first time last weekend and I love it. It’s perfect. Nice pack at a great price.
I love Teton, as you said decent prices and good gear. Found the brand 10 years ago, bought one backpack and loved it. I got coyote tan explorer 3400. Sturdy support along with side pockets and gear loops.
They’ve come in handy. The funny thing is I wasn’t expecting much, that backpack is still going strong. (Only a few loose threads through a lot usage).
Please review more of their gear to keep us all updated.
They also have fantastic cots. Not backpacking cots, but nothing better car camping cots.
Hi Luke! As I am sure others have already mentioned, to ME as long as the quality and performance, and warranty stays the same, I'm ok with that. BUT I also see your take, too. As a business trying to be noticed by more and more new customers, perhaps a name like Teton Outdoors or Teton Gear might have been a better choice. I CAN understand their not wanting people to get on their website and wonder where all of the baseball bats and tennis racquets are, which might well have happened to them with sports associated with their name. LOVE the Teton products I have, and I will probably be back to them for more, regardless of the name.
I’ve bought their cots, sleeping pads and tents since 2012. It’s still the same as long as they keep making good gear.
I have and love some of their products. Happy they're not going away.
I have the 4 person mountain and the 3 person, I always just called it Teton. Like you said, I'm glad they are sticking around, I love their stuff.
Dont really think it going to matter, but i do like the the sound of teton outdoors. Big fan of TETON, i have 3 tents 2 sleeping bags 2 sleep pads, piliiows, sleeping bag liners, backpack, great products at great prices and prices are even better on the flash bang sales they have around the holidays. Excellent customer service and nobody offers a better warranty than TETON.
HAPPY TRAILS
Ty for the heads up on what is now Teton, Luke. I am also glad that this co. has not gone under like your vid preview seemed to elude to. I always thought the name Teton Sports did seem a little confusing, as they billed themselves with other companies that also have “Sports” in their name such as “Dicks Sporting Goods”, of whom does sell
equipment other than camping gear.
30 yrs or so ago and no one would question this because a “Sporting goods store” was the only place to buy most camping equipment save for a few startup co.’s who were just getting up and running online. Today this all has changed, and there is more of a distinction between “sporting goods” and “camping gear” only stores.
Personally I don’t think the name change matters all that much other than to try to disassociate themselves with being a “sporting goods store”.
My thought as to the name would have been to call themselves Teton Adventure Gear (or TAG) but then they may have to pay you royalties to let them use the term “Adventure “ !! Seriously though I just hope they continue their focus on making quality gear at a fair price. Given all the people being displaced by wars around the globe, I think we are going to need these companies to service these people and other “Adventurers”.
I've always referred to them as simply Teton. So no big deal to me. Love their stuff and I can afford it!
The phrase "Outdoor adventuring" has been around for at least 85 years, and #outdooradventuring has been a hash tag since two years before this channel appeared. There's been an outdoor adventuring group in Flickr since 2008 and any Google search will reveal an abundance of evidence that this phrase was being used prior to the first time it was uttered in a video on this channel.
Also, I just bought the Mountain Ultra 2P tent direct from the company a few weeks ago, as per a recommend from this channel, when it dropped to about $104 the night of the last day of REI's big annual sale. I have not yet had a chance to take it out other than to set it up. It's 80" length DOES feel on the short side and I'm 5'9", and the door vents seem kind of worthless. Since you don't really even entertain the thought of taking a tent that heavy (7#+) hiking, I just went all-out and rather than spending $18 for a footprint, bought a heavy-duty silver/grey tarp (7.5x5.5) for $4.50. 🤣
Take care.
You're very right, there. This claim of Luke's is more than a stretch. When I was a young teen in the late 1970's, we used the term to describe any hiking or camping outing we planned and I know that we didn't coin the phrase. We parroted it from someone long before us.
Yeah I agree I think that was wishful thinking on his part. Definitely not the first to use this term in this context, and it’s not even especially profound. Imagine if you’re talking to your kids or something, are you gonna say “wanna go for a hike” or “wanna go on adventure”. I’m sure people have been saying this for generations.
@mrwhirly0358 As long as I never have to hear "overlanding" again. 🤣
Luke loses points for all the good reviews he does by being so self serving that he thinks he invented outdoor adventuring (along with other “it all about me” comments)!
@@marknh3312 Ha. He may lose points, but by last count he still as 631K subscribers. What you got???
Thanks 4 the Heads Up, Luke.
Canada
Might sound a bit childish, but the reality is that for Spanish speakers that name usually turns heads. Not many people from Latin America associate that the name comes from the Teton mountains.
For French speakers, that word also turns heads!
I agree that "Teton" is too brief and not descriptive as many would think the site was about the National Park or that region.
Teton Adventure Gear, or maybe Teton AG for short. I will know them as Teton Sports Great Video Luke. Enjoy the Good Weather.
Wow I was a bit scared they went bankrupt luckily only name change.i have a pack and a tent love them both thanks again Luke cheers man.
Happy Wednesday 🎉
Imagine the board meeting. “We have a brilliant new idea! We’re changing our name from Teton Sports to. Drumroll please. TETON!”.
i can believe what happens in those meetings. okay guys....teton footprints, no....okay, grand teton walkabouts, no to austy, okay...teton do it's, no to nikey...ok, ok got it drop the teton and just, sports. oh the company is teton, got it don't drop the teton. right, ho, ho, teton outdoor, adventure, gear, hike, camp, inc....to much. okay just...teton. what sounds great, ah, yes that was my first choice but had to warm you guys up first. teton it is....TETON. says it all.
Used to have their xl cot tent combo and it was great quality. Swapped over to the Kamp-Rite tent cot as it was a faster setup since it was truly an all in one setup.
That being said, had I not found it, I would still be using Teton’s setup.
As long as they keep the Teton name so they can be found, all good. Solid equipment, layered into the mid range accessible to evryone at a reasonable price.
I agree with you Luke, I think it should be Teton outdoors.
Hmm, when I think of Teton I think of the following:
1. Mountains
2. Device for brewing tea.
3. Name given to a new luxury SUV most likely by Hyundai
When I think of Teton Sports I think of:
1. A video game company similar to EA Sports.
2. A foreign sports TV network similar to ESPN.
Like always Brother you have the best and the most knowledge of hear and the company that makes the gear helping people to save and enjoy the outdoors. Great job to you and the misses.
Because of you I buy teton products and like them
Teton sounds like a parent company name. Wonder if they are planning on some sub-companies in the near future.
They will be Teton Adventure Gear in in my mind for now on. The second you showed the response they had regarding adventure it stuck.
So, they changed their branding probably based on a consultants recommendations. I think it's a good change.
Most advertising is done by word of mouth these days. Having a one word brand in the age of social media actually makes sense to me. I like the change. I think it'll make more sense in about 3 years as it catches on with the new generation of outdoor adventurers.
As a french Canadian i always like the name Teton
Make me smile 😅
Téton tabarnak
Isn't Grand Teton a mountain in Utah?
We have the Teton Mountain Ultra 4 and love it.
Love your very informative vidoes, have you done any on the Bareskin hoody or the new waterproof jacket theyve brought out ?
They need to start making dark and earth toned tent flies!
Coleman! One, well established name. It works.
If TETON continues as a reputable and quality company of outdoor/camping gear, I see no reason for them to flounder under a rather simple modification to their name.
(ANGI did this. Used to be Angie's List.)
I bought the Teton Scout backpack because of the review video you did on it. Great backpack for the price.
Have the 2 person and 4 person 3 of their hydration bladders and 1 of the oasis 22l pack with the 3l water bladder. Just got done with a camping trip this weekend using all of it, and they've been great. Have had the equipment about 1 year and put the stuff through the ringer. May not be the best out there but for the price they are the best for me and can't go wrong with the lifetime warranty
Wish the 5500 grand backpack was more important to retailers.
I live in a valley amongst the Teton mountains in Wyoming on a ranch cattle/horse
Good to hear Teton is still at it! American gear companies with quality and decent pricing are few and far between.
I was excited about the name change because in Mexico this brand is really accessible and has excellent value for money but the only detail that "Teton" in Spanish has a meaning like "Male with big t*ts" and a lot of people always make jokes about it on the trail 😅.
You have an awesome channel, having started my climbing career in the Tetons : i was surprised ' Teton Sports ' was SLC based . What i think of when i hear the word Teton is and always will be what the French trapper's we're thinking 😃
This ain't Sandra the woman that sent you the nasty email just funny ever time I watch that episode keep up the good work
To see the word Teton doesn’t automatically make me think of outdoor gear. Now maybe in time it will. I agree with you, Teton Gear would have made more sense. I hope they do well,
When I hear only Teton, I think of mountains. Or in other words, the outdoors, exploration and adventures. Teton probably thought about this, especially considering their statement about confusion of whether they are a "sporting goods" company. Technically, they don't make any sports or sporting goods equipment. Since the definition of sport is a physical activity that is competitive or for entertainment. The idea of Adventure is more in line with what they offer.
I'm Sioux, so no matter I think Sioux. I have never purchased any of the gear, I hope the best for them and they can inspire people to get out there.😁
I would like to see to see a review of Sunyear camping gear. I have used their camping hammocks for a few years now and have no complaints. I have made one warranty call and they were on point with no questions asked. I think this company is worth mentioning. I am interested in how their other gear stands up. They have a lifetime waranty by the way
Being a novice in the outdoor adventure scene, my thought when you mentioned the company Teton I went to outdoor company, so the name as it is does work. My thought is it sounds like the company has decided to focus on just outdoor gear and not any sporting products. Thus the name change. To me the name represents a company focused on gear for the outdoors. In my opinion a very smart move to compete with other outdoor companies in great gear designed for the outdoors and not gear for outdoor sports. Just my opinion...
Personally I’m glade “Teton” kept their name as it means t!t in French as in Grand Teton.
Yes, Give us more info on the new products and direction.
Whenever I hear Teton I think mountains and the company. I think they should have gone Teton Gear, I understand why they cut the 'sports' out as that does sound like they cover a very wide range of products.
Funny you brought this up because I just ordered a tent from them a couple of days ago and I had to research the Teton gear website to realize that it was actually them and not some third party scammer site copying them. I think probably good decision on their part poor execution.
Teton always had the best stuff for big and tall guys. Hope that doesn’t change.
For Teton Sports, I have 3 backpacks. One hydration bladder one sleeping bag a pillow and i think that covers it. I'm happy with all of them period. I bought these from them. Because I'm in my 70s and I can't waste money for value.
I have their Outfitter XXL cot (with pivot arm) and one of Teton's sleeping bags. I cannot speak more highly about the XXL cot. It is superb, and it's held up well for the two years I've owned it. The Evergreen -10 F sleeping bag is very comfortable and a great value, too.
As a french speaker, when I hear Teton, .... well I giggle. Other than that I have a sleeping bag (+5°F) tho
This happens all the time with companies, usually, as they broaden their scope and markets they may want to move into. As an example, Apple was Apple Computer. Then as they broadened their product range beyond just computers, they renamed themselves to just Apple, Inc. I think the name change for Teton makes sense. I bet if you asked someone someone who isn't into outdoor stuff, who Teton Sports is, they would probably say, "Do they make sneakers, running gear, or stuff for sports?" I do like your suggestion though about "Teton Adventure" as it reflects the kind of gear they do sell but I don't have a problem with just "Teton"...short and simple...
Might just be me, but when I am searching camping items I generally google a generic 'camping x item' or 'best x item' just to see what pulls up and then visit the camping site that way, which wont bother me if Teton comes up with a slightly different name as long as they pay google to continue showing their gear. Good info Luke, thank you!
Im a big fan of this company. I don't care what name they choose to go by.
Did you trademark "Outdoor Adventuring"?
Luke gets a big head sometimes with how much influence he thinks he has on the outdoor industry.
We still watch all his videos though
@@AdventureswithB.O.B. I did watch the whole video myself.
Luke lives in his own little bubble. I'm disappointed he hasn't learned more outdoor skills other than sitting in a folding chair and drinking prison coffee.
@@johngalt6929 hahaha facts
Whole industry based off the name, been around a lot longer then this channel has. mind you I like his reviews I do come here for that and he is human. He does adjust his opinion when he gets pointed out as wrong which is more than can be said for a lot of “influencers”
You scared me! I love Teton. I think the name change is okay, but I don't think it was necessary.
Yep never again I'm a hot sleeper and I bought a 0° bag I have never been as cold as sleeping when they're 0° bag on a 32° night
Seems like a change is coming with them! Hopefully they will keep up their good reputation.
I count on your reviews and have made many purchases as result of them. Yes please review more Teton products as well as Decathlon (affordable quality). Thanks
I am okay with the name change. I agree Teton gear would be more clear.
I’ve got a cot&tent & it’s been great as well as there sleeping bag
Teton is a great name for Tea...
Let's see what's coming!
I remember you lamenting the lack of camping gear available across an affordable price range so am glad they exist regardless of name.. but yeah, dropping "sports" is a good move. "Teton Outdoors" isnt bad at all...
People like Xander and Maxim are out door adventuring. Most of us are just doing light backpacking and camping.
It's funny, I went back and watched a few of the Outdoor Gear Review videos, and they're remarkably consistent in saying "Teton Sports". Having said that, most comments that mention the company simply say "Teton". I think most people already drop the "Sports" in everyday speech, so I doubt it matters.
And of course they literally sell gear, but the image they want is that they're selling an adventure or an experience.
There are plenty of companies that either don't have that trailing noun, or regularly ignore it themselves. Columbia, Patagonia, Big Agnes, Coleman, Marmot, etc.
I love my Teton one man Quick Tent , regarding the name change, personally I just called them Teton
teton is from the french word for. . . Literally what the mountain range was named after.
Name change... fair enough. I bought 2 of their tents and they're both great. Great quality at a fair price. That's for me.
Sure reviews you do are always welcome.. Oooool Luke!!
Oh, wow yea is going to be very difficult. thanks
“Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc.” has a motto, "Arms Makers for Responsible Citizens®.” They market all their products with a single word, “Ruger.” I’ve never thought twice about it….until now. Hmmm
As long as they do not change quality that can call themselves whatever they want
Teton has always been great to me and outstanding customer service.
I hear Teton and I think of how Paul Bunyan and Babe the big blue ox were the ones that made them, by wrestling around. 😂
having been to Wyoming my 1st thought would be the Teton mountains. Oh and teton means nipple in french!
