There was an old book (60s) called Six Days to Better Golf by some guys named Dick Farley and Harry Obitz where they used this same brushing drill with all their students. After they got proficient at brushing they just threw down some champagne corks instead of balls, I guess to take away the hit impulse. I wish I'd gone to them instead of all the technical guys I went to. But it's too late now. All the technical gibberish is locked into my brain. Good video, JH.
I sure wish I had someone show me this 30 years ago when I first started playing golf. I started with the driver trying to hit the ball as far as I could and sometimes missing the ball completely! I'll be doing this the next time I go practice. Thanks JH!
Hi JH, I like this simple approach and it’s a great way to introduce the golf club. I use this approach teaching the short game and it’s a good starting place . Sometimes just having a simple task to focus on frees up the student and it becomes more natural motion. Cheers mate!
It essentially takes the "hit" urge out of the swing. Bobby Shaves (I think is/was his name) put together a book that teaches the Wild Bill Melhorn method. That walking drill, when done correctly without tension, is one that Bobby taught and it works great for taking a lot of swing thoughts out of your head. Like using a grass whip to cut grass with. Great stuff JH! I sure wish you could make it to Bill's Maylocks event. It's on my bucket list to meet you one day. Cheers!
I follow Tom Watson’s advice. Start your warm up with a long iron to develop rhythm and timing. I’m going to add your technique as well JH. Makes absolute sense. Cheers.
Hey Guys, I use the "grass brush" for warm ups also. I start with small swings and gradually increase the length of the swings. I also used to use the "ribbon" swing for a warm up, but got to many strange looks at the practice tee, so I mainly use it in private.
I love this video. I have a few new guys and to teach all the fasets of the game is impossible. I got the Hogan wood swing and the Moe iron swing and the yogi trouble shot swing and The channel lock swing
