  • Brush the grass swing drill. This simple brush the grass swing drill is a great way to improve your ball striking without a change to your golf swing. Just introducing this small mind shift into your practice swing will be enough to improve your ball striking. We see the best players in the world do this on every shot but it is so simple we miss it. Just brush the grass and watch how much better you hit the golf ball.

    My name is Brian Fitzgerald - I'm an Australian full time golf coach living in Melbourne and coaching at two venues. The Morack Public GC in Vermont South and the Lang Lang GC in beautiful South Gippsland (An hour and a quarter from Melbourne) where there are lot's of Kangaroos.
    FAQ:
    How long have you been a golf coach? I qualified as a full member of the Australian PGA back in 1985. Wow I don't feel that old.
    Why do you make videos for UA-cam? That is a great question and one I get asked a lot. I love helping people play better golf and people tell me I have a very unique coaching style that is very simple to understand. We really should do things simpler. I just make them to help people and if people like my videos they can either come for a golf lesson in person or if that is not possible you could join my membership program and I can then view your golf swing or any part of your game and really help improve what you do.
    Do you always change some ones golf swing? To be perfectly honest I try not to. If I do try to change some ones golf swing I have to have a pretty good reason for doing so and the client has to be fully engaged and committed to both regular coaching and practice in order to make that change. Most people say they will do both with good intentions but most fall away pretty quickly.
    So my preference is to change things that will improve their score easily. There are so many different ways to do this.
    What do you film with? - I have a few few different cameras I use. An old GoPro Hero 4, an iPhone 6 and iPhone X, A Sony ZV1 and an old Panasonic Handy cam (I'm using that less and less now). I record my sound on an old iPhone 4.
    What do you edit with? - About a year ago I switched to Adobe Premiere - prior to that it was Pinnacle Studio
    Do you make money off UA-cam? - Yes.It took me over 100 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense and then another 50 videos to make my next $100. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
    I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - Here's my ko-fi where you can buy me a coffee, beer or a burger should you wish (kind of like giving me a tip via : ko-fi.com/theg...
    Thanks for watching!

    Hi Brian…Johnny Miller was a huge advocate of this , he called it the brush- brush drill. He said if you weren’t doing this, you didn’t want to hit a good shot. Great advice .M.

    Hello Doc. I’ve added this to my pre-shot routine and it absolutely makes a difference to getting better contact. You made a quick reference to “one length clubs” - I bought a set of OL Cobra SZ irons in December and whilst I get they aren’t for everybody, I have really found them to be great to play. Down the rabbit hole I went!

    Personally I like to use my clubs as brooms that I use to sweep the ball off the ground with my right hand sending it to any spot I like. Years ago I told my child to do this and if it’s good enough for him it’s good enough for me

    This is such a great tip! Practicing on matts often made me not confident with getting a good contact on the grass. I end up topping it a lot on the grass. I was also embarrassed to go full practice swing in my pre shot routine which would take off a chunk of divot before I even made the real shot. I ended up practice swinging a few full swings NOT hitting the grass and then proceed to topping the ball! 😂

    Brian: should it be a full swing, or will a smaller swing, as you demonstrated, do the trick?

    • @fitzygolfpro
      @fitzygolfpro  3 роки тому +2

      It can be either Bob.
      It is what you normally do. If you are not sure. Experiment with both full and shorter and see what works.
      I always use the shorter version as it is what works for me the best. I have been doing it as part of my pre shot routine for the past 40 years.
      The most important thing is to get that sweeping sensation and noise.

    I will try this out this weekend. One thing which I am still struggling is the position and grip strength of my left hand, I feel like I am holding the grip too firmly and I miss the flexibility in my left wrist.

    • @fitzygolfpro
      @fitzygolfpro  11 місяців тому +1

      Let me know how it goes for you.
      Your left wrist needs to flex through and beyond impact. It can't of there is too much tension in there.
      Grab a frisbee in your left hand and throw it. You will notice the wrist naturally flexes and that it is pretty relaxed as you do so.
      This should be the same feel through impact.
      Brian

    • @RendaToday
      @RendaToday 11 місяців тому

      @@fitzygolfpro so the movement at impact should be similar as a frisbee throwing movement where the hand snaps over the wrist? Wow, this might be the biggest mistake I've been doing previously, I always thought that it shouldn't happen. I'll try it out today!

  • @kymstock1852

    I use SL irons and I still need to do this. It helps get my feet to ball distance sorted . From the rabbit hole, the major benefits of SL irons are 1) it gives you a broader width of distances out from the hole that your swing is the same, rather than a narrow favourite club distance. 2) you save time practising your iron shots. they are all the same.
