    I really like CL Yogi style. I tried it today a few buckets on the range. Both straighter and longer and fewer bad shots (disregarding the first 10 balls which were horrific). Best session ever! I am 66 years. Been doing Cl for a year now. Thanks JH!

      Hi Darren,
      Thanks for the compliment... Im not a special person as such.. but I do have a 'special passion' for trying to make available as much information as I can about optional methods of swinging a golf club for rank and file golfers..
      The reality is that there is no 'one' methodology for swinging a golf club that suits 'all' people.. every great player in history has had something unique in his swing type.. 90% of general Tour players have something in their swings that is a specific difference in 'their' swing compared to other players.. it may only be a small insignificant difference .. but its that 'difference' that gets 'their' swing to work for them ..
      To that end I try to find those 'differences' and pass them onto people in the hope that it will be the 'difference' that makes their golf swing more consistently enjoyable ..

      John,
      The difficulty with the Yogi swing is the learning of the 'infallible mental routine'... to do something in the address phase of the golf swing and the ignition phase of the swing with the millisecond precision Yogi did is an extremely difficult thing to do .. I have spoken to people who actually had lessons from him and they say the same thing in that Yogi 'showed' how he swung the golf club more than 'explained' how he swung the club .. and those people think .. as I do as well that happened because what he did in his swing phasing execution was something that was a biological/physicality thing that he had built but the actual explanation of that specific process was not really 'explainable'.
      He said things like .. 'Be Boneless '.. Swing With Elegance' ... which were things he clearly did himself .. but 'how' he did that was the real secret of his amazing swing .. I just wish I had just a few hours with him watching him swing and asking him some very intrinsic questions ..
      cheers JH

      I switched to my interpretation of the Yogi from watching the videos and reading his books. Every video clip of Yogi shows his Practice routines etc. I started doing the 5 step move from day1. The hardest thing with Yogi's swing is having no Pause; Just straight into the swing, once the back foot goes down. However, once I got used to this; not too long; it seems a much more natural way to hit the ball. All of my ball striking improved (I play of 8) I also incorporated his short game style and putting stroke. Every aspect of my game has improved in 7months now. I tell everyone about Yogi and show real beginners his style, they always end up striking the ball straighter and longer with less effort and quickly. I too wish I could have had a lesson from this great man. but am so glad at least he can still be seen and heard on youtube. Thanks again for your exposure of him.

    Hi JH
    Just had a look at the great man's protege's swing not very Graceful and far from
    being Elegant i reckon he would be turning in his grave i'm sure he would disown him.
    I think Yogi taught most of the pros including hogan now to imitate anyone and crush
    the ball as they do well mission impossible.
    The best thing i did was removing the left thumb all together 3 years ago to remind me which hand
    did all the hitting direction and control and me mates
    said you cant play like that yet i'm still scoring mid to high seventies.i keep saying he who
    handles the handle controls the clubhead no matter what kind of action you have.
    study Yogi's right hand fingers prior to takeaway grip it and rip it i say no thoughts on swinging just
    natural body movement position lower body to unwind upper simple game nothing to it or so he said
    swing to target and play, everybody swings but very few can actually play cause no one can teach that
    thank you very much for the videos most informative as always and your take on the great one
    hope theres more in the future all the best.

      Hi Ivan ,
      The greatest regret I have is not having seen Yogi swing in the flesh and not having had a chance to talk to him about his 'Infallible Mental Routine' .. . No one in history has swung a golf club with the grace and elegance that Yogi did .. Snead told me Yogi could hit it past him a 100 yards if he wanted to ... and he believed if Yogi had been allowed to compete on the world stage of golf he would have set records that would never have been broken .. that coming from arguably the greatest conventional swinger of a golf club is incredible endorsement .
      I know nothing of what Yogi actually did in his swing .. and frankly, I don't think anyone else does either... I have a background in the neural sciences so I understand compartmentalised thinking processes and no question in my mind he had that process totally locked in place .. one can only imagine what he could have achieved .. if he were 'allowed' to..

I have spoken to people who have had lessons from him and they say the same thing .. he 'showed' you how 'He' swung the club but didn't tell about the true 'How' component .. when Moe Norman and the likes of Sam Snead and Byron Nelson say he was the best controller of a golf ball of all time that is enough testimonial for me to conclude he was the most talented ball striker in the history of Golf..

      I can understand the commercial aspect of the Yogi Golf people.. what insider information they have about Yogi's swing is what they have to sell.. and if they give that information away for free they really do not have a 'commercial' product to sell.. the Moe Norman people in Oklahoma have the same outlook and will not provide any information other than what they provide at their teaching schools ..
      I think both parties could do their own businesses more commercial good if they provided more information about the two swing systems in a generalised overview manner .. get people more familiar with the history of the players and their overall swing mechanics .. the 'intricacies' can be learned at the teaching schools .. but you need to get the people to the schools first before you can 'charge' them for those 'intricacies' .. and I just think there is not enough general information made available to get people enthused about the truly unique differences of those two swings ..

      I played in Amateur tournaments that Steve played in when he was only 18-19 years old .. he was a gun amateur in his area back then.. won everything in that part of the country.. he was like 30 years younger than me in those days.. and 30 yards longer off the tee..

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  3 роки тому +1

      Hi David,
      Really I think the negative loading of the club in the backswing is a major importance in the yogi swing.. the 'more' negative load you can apply .. the more 'positive' load you will get in the downswing .. and by having such a wristy type action its way easier to get the clubhead firing upwards past the forearm at impact ..
      The 'Upwards' motion of the clubhead when done correctly is a very deliberate action .. just imagine you are throwing a tennis ball straight upwards as high as you can with the action of the trail hand wrist .. you cannot overdo the 'upwards' action .. but.. you must not hang to far back on your trail side when doing that because the clubhead will release to much past the lead forearm and you will top the ball ..

    I have been watching your Yogi Lock video lately. I just have one question. Do you swing with your right or left arm?

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  3 роки тому

      I don't really think about 'arms' as such.. I am very conscious of swing my 'hands' as deliberately as I can with looseness and radial inertia.. that simply meaning.. I try to feel the head of the club is trying to be swung 'off.' the shaft.
      Simply explained.. if you had a clubhead that was jut pushed on to the shaft and not glued.. what would you have to do as a swing mechanics action to throw the clubhead off the shaft away from you ... you would have to direct energy into the clubhead with a throw-out swinging action .. you should feel the same action in the downswing.

      Yogi 'pulled' the clubhead back and left the clubhead virtually behind as he activated his hands /arms .. but I don't think he favoured any particular hand/arm ..the action looks very much to me as though he is pulling with 'both' hands/arms equal amounts in the backswing ..I know that's what I do when doing the Yogi swing ..

    On yogi takeaway, do you keep the wrist angle all the way to the top?

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  3 роки тому

      The wrist action is the same as that of loading and cracking a whip.. or loading and firing a trout fishing Rod.. the only difference is that the action of the wrists is a hinging action .. instead of a cocking action .. as a feel.. that being the the back of the trail hand goes sideways towards the outside of the forearm.. the same as you would configure your hand/wrist to apply a 'slap' action to something..
      That action is just continued to the top of the swing and is then just applied in the downswing as you would a slapping action .a 'paintbrushing' action is the same action .. and yes it continues right to the top of the backswing.. ..
      The general feeling of the wrist action is that of a 'sideways' motion.. as apposed to an upwards cocking motion ..

      I am too old now to go traveling to other countries .. and I stopped teaching formally quite a while ago.. and as well I teach the process of 'flow' and natural club head inertia to create optimum swing mechanics.. today's aspiring players have been overloaded with 'Structure' and 'Positions' .. I dont see real golf 'Swings' being taught...anymore.. most players these days look like Robots in their automated like swing mechanics.. nothing wrong with that .. it just doesnt fit my thinking of a Golf 'Swing' ..
      Give me a Ben Hogan.. Sam Snead.. Christy Oconnor .. or Peter Thompson with their wonderful clubhead flow and motion .. I am probably just a Dinosaur outlook of teacher ... but I really miss those Dinosaurs..

    Actually, I can (many times) pull-hook the ball using channel lock. So I don't understand why you say it is impossible. However, I simply drop the Right foot back at address to start ball to right and ball will finish center of green.

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  6 років тому

      Hi Thomas,
      I don't doubt that you can 'pull hook' some shots .. but you are not doing that when you are doing CL correctly .. ' a 'Pull' is not physically possible from an int out path attack on the ball .. and CL is not CL if you are not attacking the ball from in to out.. any pull shot has to have an 'out to' in path attack on the ball to create a 'pull flight shot.
      'Pull' shots 'start' left and go left .. ( for a right-handed player)you cannot achieve that with an in to out path attack on the ball.. physically and technically impossible..

    Hi JH. I just love hearing about Yogi, unfortunately I can’t get my head round the whole swing, so it’s not something I can adapt. However I get lessons from a similar form of playing style “flow motion golf”. Which is more about using your feet and using the weights of the club.
    I just wish I could have met The Count and got a first hand lesson. It’s a shame that this will never ever be publicised. It will be a long time until someone comes along with the same flare and panache as The Count. For now, please keep up the videos. I love getting some form of insight.
    I want to buy his book, but even those sell for £250 now! Seems a little expensive, maybe well worth it though.

      Hi ED,
      The count was I think probably the most interesting character there has been in Golf .. clearly, he had a swing that never changed or failed to produce the same result every virtual shot .. if the records of his scoring feats are true he was absolutely the most capable swinger of a golf club in history ..
      I am so disappointed I never got to meet Yogi or see him hit golf shots .. I saw Moe norman hit shots and he was well past his prime when I saw him and his ball striking was the best I had ever seen ... and when he tells you Yogi was the best swinger of a golf club he had seen that is all the endorsement I need to conclude Yogi was as good as he is reported to have been .. as well Byron Nelson and Sam Snead told me yogi was the best player that was never allowed to compete at World level play ..
      Yogi's books shed no real light on how he swung the club ... he had a mental program that was totally infallible and it made his swing repeat itself with millisecond precision application precisely the same every time he swung the club ..
      How he created that 'Infallible Mental routine' has never been explained by Yogi .. he mentions it but never explains how he developed it .. Yogi never lost his swing .. he was swinging the same way at 80 years old ... no one has ever done that .. with the level of precision he had in his swing .. if he were playing today with today's equipment and golf course conditioning he would shoot scores that would make a mockery of the record books ..

      Hi JH,
      Thanks for the response, that was my thinking too, I’m probably better of saving the £250.
      It really is quite incredible that he received the highest order of praise, from the greatest of the game. The fact they didn’t want to play him in money matches, because he was simply too good just says it all.
      I also read somewhere that Ben Hogan really struggled for the first 10 years of his professional career, he then spent 3 months with Yogi, and his career catapulted to success. Of course I can’t say this is fact, but all the evidence does have a way of adding itself up.
      I wonder why Tim Nicholls and his team haven’t made a bigger effort to try and spread the word of Yogi, and to try and make it a universal teaching method, is it because the PGA aren’t interested and are quick to tell coaches, the only way is the pga way ?
      I read one of your comments which said you believe Yogi could have won 50 majors, I completely agree with you! I just find it mind boggling how he was kept so quiet, for such a charismatic character!
      Cheers,
      Ed

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  5 років тому +2

      Moe Norman told me Yogi spent some time with Hogan,, Snead told me that as well...
      I just think the PGA's of the world would never advocate such a radical departure to a Yogi type swing doctrine because they really couldn't teach it effectively because no one really knows how he actually got his swing to do what it actually did .. I know it was an infallible mental routine for sure .. but 'how' it worked I have no Idea ... nor has anyone else ...
      I based my assessment of Yogi winning so many majors because he would have had such a long career without any periods of going through swing issues and form drop offs .. he would have been able to perform for probably 25+ years straight without a reduction in his playing ability .. maybe 50 majors is a bit of a stretch... but 30 certainly would not have been ...
      If he were playing today you wouldn't be able to get on golf courses as a spectator so popular would he have been ..

      Hi Peter,
      Yogi Lock is really just an exaggerated momentum negative loading of the clubhead in the backswing .. all the normal CL protocols are still in use... the reason I mentioned Yogi in context with CL was to just give an additional method of getting greater momentum loading into anyone's backswing with the CL process..
      I myself have momentum loading in my general takeaway so to answer you question I 'do' employ it in my CL Protocols .. maybe not as much as I demonstrated in the video about Yogi Locking but its still very much in my general CL swing process..
