    To me, the most revolutionary, almost heretical part of this is the way the shoulders can be preset, as you demonstrate so perfectly - no need to start turning them into the backswing from a square position in a vain attempt to achieve a needless 90-degree position at the top - how you came up with this concept leaves me knocked for 6. Chanel Lock has enabled me to get 80% of my distance back, something that at the age of 79, seemed virtually impossible - thanks again JH - this is the real deal.

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  Рік тому +1

      Hi Ed,
      I agree with you about 'presetting' the shoulders closed at address.. its really just already being 'in your backswing turn' at address..
      The genius of Moe Norman was not identified until he hooked up with Natural golf in the early 90's and started actually talking about his swing mechanics.
      Everyone who ever saw Moe setup to swing his club could see he placed the clubhead around 15 inches 'behind' the ball at address.. everyone just thought it was a personal idiosyncrasy of Moe's swing mechanics.
      But Moe worked out early in his golfing life that if he just positioned the clubhead that far behind the ball at address.. and positioned it by turning his shoulders to get it there.. he was effectively already into his backswing at address.
      People who tried to copy him made the mistake of just positioning the clubhead that far back from the ball by just putting it there with their hands ... but that didn't get the shoulders pre-turned.
      Actually, with the Channel Lock swing, you can as well position the clubhead a distance behind the ball at address.. ok.. we should be endeavoring to have our shoulders pre-turned at address with CL.. but that can be made easier to do by just positioning the clubhead a significant distance behind the ball at address..
      I don't know why when doing that with the Channel Lock swing the ball strike becomes so much stronger and the clubhead just seems to collect the ball so much more easily.
      I really don't know why the Channel Lock geometry and mechanics have not been discovered before I came across them.. it's just such a foolproof method of swinging a golf club I think.
      cheers JH

      Hi William,
      As of today, I am on the road to recovery ... thank god... I have always 'felt' invincible to sickness up until this attack on me .. I used to just roll over the top of every sickness that tried to attack up until this episode..
      Some of the strains of viruses that are around these days are so virulent that normal immune systems have no defence against them ..
      I think if I wasn't as fit and strong as I am I would have been in a whole lot of trouble with this infection...I was anyway.. but it could have been really bad news the medicos told me ..like I could have seen my last days of the JH practice tee .. I actually thought I had last week ..

    Hi JH, I have following your journey with channel lock, I have had a breakthrough with my protocol, and would like to share it with you, if you stand square to the ball and close your club 45 degrees and do a half swing guarantee ball will go to the left ever time ! Now if you place a ball off your right foot and pretend to hit it, leave the club extended club face at 45 degrees, now move back squaring club face to ball in channel lock ie let the club face set your channel lock set up, it replicates set up ever time. It also works with Moe Norman or any set up, hope this is the final 10% you are looking for. I hope I have explained this correctly for you to understand,
    Cheers Robin

    I had a surgical repair of an inguinal hernia 10 days ago JH. So I’ve been home bound too as I rest and try to recover as soon as possible. I pass the time watching some of your old videos. Sooo very enjoyable. You’re such a gem, JH. You have no idea.
    Just wanted to let you know, we are ALL still thinking about you and sending positive energy and prayers that you continue to improve.
    I was just thinking about something. Perhaps your path to recovery has been a struggle because your doc is conventional. Maybe you need the equivalent of a Channel Lock Doc to straighten out that path to better health! 😁 Love ya JH! Cheers!

      Hi Craig, My recovery is a little more difficult for me because I don't ever take Anti Biotics ... not that it would make any difference with this particular virus mutation .. apparently it doesn't respond to any known Anti Biotics .. it has as of today killed 37 people .. that is the 'reported' number .. It could be more ..
      It's being labelled in the press as a particularly virulent 'Influenza' virus ..the people who have died have been older people who have had weaker than normal immune systems .. the doctors told me I am lucky I am so fit and strong physically for my age ...
      As of today, I think I am getting a bit better.. I am not being racked with rib breaking coffing fits as I was up until a couple of days ago ... and general congestion and mucus amounts are reducing somewhat..so I think I am past the worst of things.. fingers crossed the road ahead will improve ..
      You want to make sure your rehab correctly from your hernia repair...I have seen a lot of guys that had those types of injuries hurry back to quickly to normal type activities..
      cheers JH

    The genesis of my respiratory problem was my sinuses. Even if you do not have nasal or interior sinus polyps you may have chronic sinusitis that may be causing you to have copious amounts of drainage into your lungs which would cause you to be in a constant state of respiratory infection / pneumonia. If you can stop the sinus drainage if that’s what’s going on with you, your lungs respiratory symptoms may improve dramatically. The sinuse rinse bottle with budesonide has worked great for me and my sinus / respiratory infections. You can also add mupriocin ointment which is an antibiotic ointment to the sinus rinse a couple of times weekly. That will kill off and keep a bay recurrent infections.

      And this has what to do with channel lock golf swing?

  • @laurelmakula2835
    @laurelmakula2835 9 місяців тому +1

    Fiddling around with channel lock for over a year with inconsistent results. I know it's the easiest way for someone 72 years old to swing without back issues, so I have kept at it. Could not figure why my 4 iron would go 180 yards carry on a few shots with a very small high draw and a long hang time. Then on most shots I would hit 150 yards carry with a weak push or pull hook. And then I stumbled on to what is the core of channel lock. If you do it you are guaranteed an excellent or very serviceable shot. If you don't, well anything can happen depending on what the hands do to compensate. The very critical factor is that the shoulders must not start moving back at the start of the downswing. I use a square stance (no need to pull foot back from line but I do turn my shoulders into a closed position at address), ball on my back foot, and an easy 3/4 swing. Start the downswing nice and slow with the one thought of keeping the shoulders in the position they are at. The arms move without the shoulders. Probably impossible to hold the shoulders there, but the effort stops them from turning back too soon and too far, which ruins the power and accuracy of centripetal force. When you do it right the shoulders will have saved the snap of the whip until the point of impact and you will be amazed at the power and accuracy that is created. JH doesn't have any problem doing this because he has it grooved. However the new golfers to channel lock will move shoulders too soon and will go over the top which always results in weak inaccurate, powerless shots

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  9 місяців тому +2

      You have determined the intrinsic geometry requirement of the Channel Lock swing.. in order to develop a consitent 'starting' direction for all shots.. which in CL is starting slightly right of the target line ( right handed golfers).. you must have the shoulder line closed at impact.. you cannot get the clubhead swinging in to out at impact if the shoulder line is not closed at imact.. anatomically impossible to do that if the shoulders are not closed at impact.
      As you have determined the the shouders should be held closed at the start of the downswing and the arms just dropped verically down away from the closed shoulder girdle.
      There is quite a bit of reference to that aspect of the CL swing in the 100 or so videos of CL on my channel..
      Cheers JH

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  2 роки тому

      Hi Frederick,
      Actually Moe would have the ball in a position at impact close to that of Channel Lock .. if.. he had the ball 'positioned' back 'where' his club was at address .
      I would like to have spoken to Moe about the trail foot ball positioning of Channel Lock and what his reaction would have been to it .. I'm sure he would have tried it because he always said you never stop learning about the Golf Swing ..

      Hi Ronnie,
      Only had one night in hospital ..on the mend now though.. just isn't as easy these days to fight off viruses and alike as it was 20 years ago .. desperate to get back to hitting some balls let me tell you .. it will be interesting to see how CL applies itself after not hitting balls for what will probably end up being around 14 days if I start hitting in a couple of days ..
      Theoretically, I should be able to just pull up my mental protocol sequence and the swing should just fire itself straight back up as it was before I got sick .. it will be a very interesting test of the Protocol application ..

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  5 років тому

      Hi George,
      'Remembering' the Protocols is the absolute secret of the CL swing .. you need a checklist that you can go through before every shot... and if the checklist doesn't click every protocol into place before the swing .. don't start the swing .. my checklist is like a failsafe rocket launch mechanism .. if all the launch countdown facets are not applied the rocket cannot achieve 'ignition' ... its really that simple .. get the protocols countdown sequenced precisely as it should be sequenced and the swing should be the 'same' every time..
      cheers JH

    Stay fit....I just tore my rotator cuff and am waiting specialists on what can be done at 74 years young. Never been injured really in all my years. SO...no golf. My brother lost his wife in 48 hours recently due to an infection that was incurable and felt like the flu. He is doctor and couldn't save her...he is lost now! Am sure your fitness saved you. There are so terribly virulent viruses around right now ..that must have been horrendous for your brother to lose his wife so quickly and medical science having no defence against the disease in these modern times .. its a very worrying time right now with the influx of these rogue viruses..
      Rotator cuff injuries are bad at any time.. but at our stage of life they are doubly a problem .. just hope its a tear that will mend itself ..I work so hard on my musculature around the areas of the shoulder to avoid any injuries to those muscle groups .. ..I give up a bit of flexibility because I train the muscle groups for support strength mass but it seems to have worked for me to date .. can't wait to get out and hit some balls again ..

    Hi JH, I have suffered from chronic sinusitis and respiratory problems my whole life. Last year I had a cut scan done and it revealed that my sinus cavity’s were full of infection and polyps. This caused me to be short of breath, wheezing, and constant coughing and feeling very fatigued. I then had endoscopic sinus surgery which helped a lot but my drainage kept going down into my lungs. My doctor instructed me to start using a sinus rinse bottle with saline solution and budesonide added to it daily. My wheezing, coughing and congestion have stopped and I feel much better. The sinuse rinse with budesonide my help you recover quicker if you are experiencing lots of drainage going into your lungs. I wish you would give the sinus rinse bottle a try.

    In my opinion hips should be open to counter effect of shoulders which are closed . Otherwise, you will have a hook.

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  4 місяці тому

      Just try doing what I am advocating and keep the lead shoulder 'High and closed' at impact and commit to firing the clubhead on the line of the closed shoulders through impact.. which will be around 5-6 degs closed to the targetline at impact.. and just let the clubhead release naturally.. and let your body respond naturally to the keeping of the lead shoulder up and closed at impact.
      The only way you will induce a push hook is if you hang back on your trailside dramatically at impact... that will induce a flip rollover release of the clubface through impact.. the more you fire the clubhead out across the targetline and to the ..as a feeling.. the 'extreme' right of the targetline through impact.. the more you will induce a nice push/draw ball flight.. of course these directions are for a right handed player.
      Cheers JH

    I realize that this video is over 4 years old, so first of all I am so lad that you were able to rid yourself of your illness. Secondly, I wonder-did you ever market this swing commercially? I have had much success with it, although just discovering it recently. My wedges are quite accurate. My three wood off the turf still needs some work. (fat shots). I find all of your videos on you tube. Is there a more direct way to do so?
    Thanks, Ernesto from Texas

      I havent done anything with the Channel Lock swing commercially at all .. mainly because the world of rank and fle golfers have been exposed to conventional type swing mechanics for so long that to convert them from the general status quo of swing mechanics would just be to difficult a proposition at my age.
      If you are hitting your 3 wood fat you should try putting the ball further back in your stance than you have it now .. its surprising how far back in your stance you really need to play the hybrids and fairway woods with the channel Lock swing .
      If you type in ..uploads from 1atomicgolf.. in your search engine .. that will access all my 1500+videos.. then just type in the search bar at the top .. Channel Lock.. and all the 100+ videos about Channel Lock will come up.

      The virus I have is a mutated strain of Influenza that is resistant to all known antibiotics at present .. it has already killed a significant number of older people in Australia .. it is quite a worry for the medical establishment right now because they can't treat it with any real effectiveness..
      If you are older and have a less than strong general immune resistance you are extremely vulnerable to this virus strain .. I have coped as well as I have to date because of my greater than normal physical condition resistance for my age ..
      I am forcing myself to keep physically moving and not succumbing to being bedridden...

    Or are you both lowering the trail shoulder and twisting back to the target line?

      The backcock is merely a 'pre-turning' of the shoulders... I just try to get into my backswing shoulder turn at address .. the backcocking process is exactly the same anatomical movement of the shoulder girdle that you would make in a normal backswing.. it is not in any way a concocted process..

    Hi JH, I hope you are feeling much better. I’m looking forward to seeing you back on the range. A question for you. When I practice CL in my back yard I have to hit in a pretty tight gap between a very big oak tree on my left about 40 yards away and a very large pine tree to the right about 25 or 30 yards from where I’m hitting from. The gap between the two trees is plenty large enough to hit balls through to a cedar tree 165 yards away. It is hard for me though to hit that gap consistently. A lot of my shots go right through the top of the oak tree or through it branches on its right side and sometimes I hit it through the left side of the pine tree. When I go out and hit from a wide open spot I don’t have any issues other than a push to the right or a slight pull to the left. Is the oak tree and pine tree gap that I’m hitting through in my back yard producing an optical illusion? I can’t seem to get my alignment correct when I hit balls through the gap between thos two trees. I do just fine out in the wide open though. What do you think is going on with me not being able to hit that gap consistently? I’ve tried hitting from different spots to the left and right but for the life of me I cannot hit that gap consistently as I should be able to.

      Hi Ronnie,
      I am recovery slowly..but recovering never the less.. I am a bit stumped as to what you are experiencing in your backyard with your targeting ..
      At the end of the day, the ball will only go where the clubface is pointing as you release it ... if you just have a couple of cursory practice swings making sure you are getting the clubface released at what should be impact and just post-impact with the clubface direction being your target destination.
      What I am saying is just get the clubface releasing towards the target in the practice swings and don't worry about anything else at all... I have found that if you get the clubface releasing towards the target in the practice swings with the path direction being clearly in to out that the body will tend to align itself to facilitate the club release direct .. it just invariably happens that the body alignment just responds to the clubhead direction efforts /needs ..
      So just concentrate on getting the clubface releasing towards your target in the practice swings and just let your body alignment respond to the setup it needs to compliment that clubface release direction ..
      cheers JH

    As far as the back cock or preturn goes for me. I've always felt like the golf swing rotates around the left shoulder. Like the left shoulder is the center of the clock. So I want my left arm in line with the shaft. So what I have been experimenting with. I address the ball with it under my left arm pit. I don't like to think of it off my trail foot because, depending on my stance that can vary. Ok so I get the ball under left arm pit. Turn my shoulders to get club behind the ball. At that point my club would be square to target. Weight is over trail leg. For more preturn I move the club further back in the channel. 3-4" obviously the club would be opening up some. For me I want that club in line with left arm, no cuppings in my left wrist. I might give what you're demonstrating a try. I'm just afraid my OCD brain will not allow it. I believe Channel Lock is going to hit the market ready or not. Maybe I shouldn't have but, I told Alex at The Art Of Simple Golf about your awesome swing. I imagine he'll be sniffing around your channel. Thanks for all the great help👍

    Dear JH after two long days on the range
    i really love channel lock - at the beginning
    it feels not even comfortable and the biggest challenge is to truth yr swing path
    (swing path parallel to shoulder line )
    as the swing path is locked this method
    is really showing you whats wrong in yr
    conventional swing as there is no space for compensational moves anymore
    and the 1st thing i found out was that my hands worked complety wrong in the past
    and i never had a clean release
    one question concrning allignemt
    feet line - the shoulders are closed
    but from the feet line you aim left from the target and you take yr lead foot a little bit
    back right so that it looks like an X from birds view i mean allignment in relation to shoulder line ???? cheers Hardy

      @1atomicgolf  5 років тому

      My general degree of shoulder turn in a full swing is only about 75-80 degs ...I am not very flexible in the midriff so I can't turn my shoulders that much .. the 'amount' of shoulder turn to have in the CL swing .. is 'what' you can apply yourself within your own levels of flexibility/physicality..
      If you are referring to the amount of 'preturn' I am applying in the video .. it is around probably 15-20 degs ..

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  3 роки тому

      OK.. if the ball flight is just a 'straight' push.. just try putting more closure on the clubface at address .. you path sounds correct if the ball is going straight out and away from the target line .. you are achieving the in the channel in to out ball flight requirement.
      If you wanted to hit a straight push shot to a target with the CL swing .. you would just have a slightly open clubface at address... the normal ball flight shape with a correct CL geometry swing is that of a slight 'push/draw' ..
      If ..your shots are starting straight out to the right ( right handed golfer) and have a slight draw on ..but are just going to much to the right of your target .. the normal simple reason is that you are actually just aiming to far to the right at address .
      Just align a bit more left at address and see if the 'amount' of out to the right ball flight diminishes... its a common occurrence with CL in the learning stage.
      Its a good sign if the ball is going straight right because you cannot hit that ball flight shape if you are not hitting out significantly .. which is the cornerstone of CL geometry .
      Remember when you are closing the clubface at address that you do it before you take your grip.. just don't roll the clubface closed by turning your hands inwards.. .
      The shot I like to play myself with CL with my irons ' is' the straight push.. I achieve that ball flight type by just having the clubface a tad open at impact .. I like that shot because the shot sits down quickly and doesn't run or kick sideways when it lands .. which is what you want with iron shots. knowing I am going to hit that shot I just aim a little left at address .
      With the driver I have a bit of clubface closure at impact to get the power draw which gives me some extra run which is the objective with the driver.

    Ok JH I have a thought watching you this morning. Some pros that I’ve watched in the past (I now watch only you) teach to get the feeling of swinging in to out, with your feet together just pull your trail foot back and hit balls. Agree or not? Seems very similar to your swing just on the opposite foot?

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  4 роки тому

      Swinging with the feet together has always been used in traditional swing mechanics teaching to promote the freeing up of the arms in their moving process and eliminate excessive body movement intervention ..
      Doing the same process in learning the CL swing can certainly help get the feeling of the arms/hands swinging as free agents around and past a predominantly utilised trail vertical axis of the body ... the only difference to incorporate in this process for the CL swing is that of having the trail foot pulled back into a closed stance alignment when swinging with the feet close together ..

    I am fully with you JH nevertheless it shows that yr swing principels work
    as this guy locked the swing path also
    and hitting the ball without big body turn or rotation a long distance

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  5 років тому +1

      The secret to distance is relative to two things as the major contributors .. the first being how 'far' you can get the clubhead to travel during the backswing/ downswing.. no long drive guys have short swings ... some people might say that John Rham doesn't take the club back very far and as a result, the clubhead doesn't travel all that far .. John is long for a Tour player but wouldn't be remotely competitive as a long drive competitor .. he averages around 120 mph ...maxing out at around 125 ish mph clubhead speed .. whereas a 'slow' swing speed for a long drive competitor would be around 135 mph .. the top guys can exceed 150 mph ...
      The 'second' component for getting distance is how 'fast' you can actually move your arms in the downswing .. Rahm hasn't a long backswing but has very quick arms in his downswing .... so the point of not needing a lot of body rotation to develop club speed is correct ..
      However that guy that did the video had a long backswing even though he didn't has much body turn .. he is obviously very flexible in the midriff to be able to make that level of backswing/downswing distance... if he could understand how to get the club tracking consistently in to out through impact he could hit some shots that would actually land on the Planet ..
      His 'principle' has some legs.. but his 'application' needs way more development/understanding ..
      cheers JH

This is what has been confusing me. Not sure if I should be open or closed. On my driver I am hitting it a lot straighter and maybe a little draw sometimes. Before I was a big slice into the trees. • @1atomicgolf

      You can be ..'open' ..or 'closed'.. in the stance line.. its optional .. I have gone to a closed stance line because I can at my age and lack of midriff flexibility make a better torso turn in the backswing.. I still hit 'right' because I keep my lead shoulder closed at impact .
      So baseline answer is .. set your stance line to what gives you the best repeatability of ball flight.

      Jim's swing process is a good one .. however it still has the same problem 'all' swings have that play the ball forward of body centre at address.. that being you will always still be vulnerable to the 'pulled/dragged' type shot .. CL was invented to eliminate that shot ..

      The secret to getting consistent contact with all clubs is not reaching to much with the longer clubs at address ... try and develop the same hands position at address with every club .. it will feel as though you are crowding the ball when you first try it with the longer clubs .. but trust your balance and try to swing the arms 'past' a quiet body at impact .. just stay still and let the swinging of the arms get the body 'responding' to the momentum of the arms/clubhead ..

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  5 років тому +1

      Hi William,
      I had a guy the other day that has normally a clubhead speed of 120 mph with driver with a conventional swing .. after he tried CL mechanics setup structure his clubhead speed was the same but his accuracy was improved dramatically ..I can hit 'any' ball flight shape I need to hit .. and demonstrate such every lesson ..
      The 'only' shot I cant hit .. and I don't want to anyway.. is a 'cut spin' shot ... that is because CL mechanics will never deliver the clubhead 'across' the target line at impact ... and frankly a 'cut spin' shot is a low integrity quality of shot anyway... So I am more than happy to never hit that ball flight ever again ..
      Personally, I have picked up distance with my irons since starting CL .. and my driver distance even though I am using a very short driver..41 inch... I have not lost any distance at all ..
      The real logic is that I wouldn't be using CL mechanics ..or recommending them if I was compromised in any manner relative to what I can achieve with a conventional golf swing .. CL was designed by me to make my shotmaking 'better' ..not inferior...

      Hi John,
      There is some individual tuning of the amount of presetting of the shoulders at address.. when you do backcock at address you have to trust that where you are in that backcocked position.. you wont be at impact .. you are in fact just into your backswing with the precock process.
      As well you only precock after you have setup your address alignment ... you never let your feet alignment change to facilitate the backcock/precock.
      Keeping the head back at impact is vital for a back foot positioned ball at impact .. just hit some half shots with say a 7 iron and force yourself to keep your nose pointed outside your trail foot at.. and after impact .. you will initially see how much we let out head/eyes rotate to much coming into impact after you finish the half swing and have the nose still pointing behing your trail foot .. Moe Norman used to hit a lot of practice shots doing just that .. he didnt play the ball off his trail foot .. but he kept his noe pointing way to his right at impact... as do all good ball strikers.

      Hi Larry,
      I haven't 'abandoned' the 3 lever mechanics.. I have not promoted it in the general swing mechanics of the Channel Lock swing because I think it tends to be a bit too much of an 'extra' mechanics uptake whilst trying to take on board the general base mechanics of the Channel Lock swing...
      There is no doubt in my mind that the 3 lever mechanics can produce more power in any type of golf swing .. I actually apply 3 lever in my own swing when not showing or talking about the Channel Lock swing to other people..

      JH, when you do let the left elbow bend on the backswing, where in the downswing do you feel like it straightens? Do you allow it to straighten early in the downswing, or do you hold onto the bend until near impact, making it’s straightening part of the release? Or, do you just let it straighten however and whenever it wants to? Any feedback you have would be appreciated; I’m intrigued by that 3rd lever concept and am trying to work it into my own swing. I’m 74, and us old guys need all the help we can get... :-)

      @@larrybeavens7580 Hi Larry,
      really no matter how much you let the lead elbow bend in the backswing you will not be able to keep it bent in the downswing .. the radial inertia of the swing and the clubhead tugging effect on the arms is too great to be able to keep the elbow bent in the downswing ..
      I just fire my trail hand/arm as much as I can in the downswing once its underway from the top of the downswing .. the reason club players don't hit the ball with all their available potential power is because the simply don't utilise the power of the trail arm/hand in the downswing ..the trail arm/hands are usually the dominant ones in the golf swing so you should utilise that dominancy power availability ..

      Okay, thanks JH. In my entire 60+ years of playing the game, my dominant right hand has tried to dominate the swing and it’s caused me nothing but trouble. I’m finding though that by bending the left elbow in the backswing, I can delay the right hand’s power thrust until close to impact, which is where it should be. It also allows me to stay still and not let the backswing pull me off balance. Thanks for your earlier video on the “3rd lever” and your reply here; that’s great work and insight!

      Hi Larry,
      The reason normally players get into trouble with 'over applying' their trail hand/arm in the downswing is because they get the lead shoulder rolling open in the downswing which will get the club outside the target line coming into impact.. which causes pulled and dragged shots ..
      If you keep the lead shoulder closed at impact and generally from the start of the downswing you can apply the trail had as hard as you want because it will always be tracking from 'in to out' at impact .. ..having a back foot ball position at impact really makes it a lot easier to keep the shoulders from opening coming into impact ..

    Hi JH, what happens if you aim way right of the target with CL with your feet then bring the shoulders back to the target line? I haven’t tried this before but would it produce a draw or a big hook or would that put the golfer in a unhitable position with the channel lock swing? This question just popped up into my mind for some reason.

      Hi Ronnie,
      I think asll that would just complicate the body geometry way to much .. you just need to get the shoulders aligned closed to the target line at impact which will get the club travelling in to out 'across' the target line as the desired path of travel .. and then all that needs to happen is that the club-face has to be releasing 'towards the target ' at impact ..
      All we want to achieve in the CL swing is to get the club travelling in to out at impact .. outwards away from the target .. and the club-face pointing 'at 'the target at impact ..
      The whole idea of the CL swing is create a consitent 'starting' direction of the gholf ball post impact .. the 'amount' of of that direction is relative to how much you can individually achieve in the amount of in to out path application .. we only want the ball starting a 'bit' to the right post impact ( right handed golfers ) and then starting to curve back towards the target .. I personally only move the ball a couple of yards in its flight from its initial starting direction to its target destination amount of flight ..
      To get that small amount of curvature my in to out attack path is around 8 degs in to out .. my club-face is closed around 4 degs at impact .. you have to experiment with the amount of shoulder closure alignment you can achieve comfortably at impact and the corresponding amount of club-face closure you will need at impact in order to get a good controllable drawspin ball flight .. you just have to experiment with those two angle parameters to see what is 'your' optimum accuracy ball flight amount ..
      cheers cJH

    dear JH if you skip this video to 1:08 you find an extreme version of the CL swing ua-cam.com/video/pR9wcDLj0V0/v-deo.html&feature=share
    he says 290 yds drive possible with this allignment and a simple hand release

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  5 років тому

      A 290 yard drive is obviously possible ...but finding a course wide enough to cater for the huge amount of direction deviation to the left would be the problem .. and not to mention having to receive chiropractic work done on your back every day to counter the extreme resistance of the hips against the shoulders in the downswing ..
      I think what that video typifies is the mental outlook of Long Drive guys .. their 'only' objective is distance .. and most of them cant get one ball out of 6 in play when they are competing .. of course 'can' on the very rare occasion get 'a' ball in play .. but the majority of the shots miss the planet ..
      cheers JH

    Why do you change your address?

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  8 місяців тому +1

      Not sure what you mean by 'changing your address'.. if you are referring to the 'ball position' difference in the swing compared to a conventional type golf swing .. that is clearly to facilitate more easily an in to out attack path on the ball at impact .. and the knock-on effect of that being a consistent starting direction for each shot.. which is slightly to the right of the target line (right-handed golfer).
      The video needs to be watched a few times to really uptake the swing geometry difference of this swing.
      Cheers JH

      @@1atomicgolf thanks for the response JH. I realized it after I watched again and on another video you mentioned it. It’s when you address your trail foot. You don’t leave it close to the ball. You take a step back from it. I tried this yesterday and I was hitting it pretty good. I had adopted the JV swing and it’s less forgiving because if you address the ball at your lead foot and open up your shoulder just a little bit. You will pull hook it. I like both of you guys swing. But I think I like your set up better. I went out today and I found myself slapping at the ball and was hitting low ground shots to the right. Not every swing but more than I would have liked to. I appreciate your videos and I am going to continue to watch and practice. Just started back playing 4 months ago. Haven’t played in 13 years. The lowest I have ever shot was 85. I can’t break 90 to save my life! I have found the JV swing to be more consistent than my traditional swing but I think your swing is better than that!

    • @1atomicgolf

      Hi Ken,
      The Channel Lock swing will take a while to embed itself into your body dynamics because its such a departure from traditional swing geometry setting up.
      If you are hitting the ground a getting those slappy low shots.. just increase the 'pulling' action of your lead hand/arm in the downswing .. you need more 'pulling' with the lead hand/arm in this swing ..if you get a throwing action of the clubhead from the top of the swing it will open up your shoulder girdle in the downswing and kill any chance of the club being directed to swing from in to out at impact.
      Just hit some short 56/60 yard shots with the lead hand/arm being the dominant force in the downswing .. then progress to longer distance shots with the same action .. as well back the pressure in the trail hand/arm right down .. if the trail hand/arm are dominant they will throw the clubhead from the top of the swing instead of letting it be dropped and pulled into and through impact.
      Cheers JH

    Hi JH, even more simpler than my last comment, just stand square to target, turn your club face 45 degrees then let the club face move you into channel lock set up, perfect every time
    Cheers Robin

    • @1atomicgolf
      @1atomicgolf  5 років тому

      Hi Robin,
      Not exactly sure what you are suggesting.. 45 degs is a lot of closure to put ion the clubface and then counteract that percentage with the amount of shoulder girdle closer to get ligned up on the target ..
      I now have my clubface shutdown around 4 degs at address and backcock my shoulders an amount that gets me attacking the ball from around 9 degs in to out at impact .. clearly, I can line up instinctively to the required amount of body alignment whilst I am sighting to the target during my address procedure ...
      I think what you are doing ...even though to me it seems a lot of angularity application... if I gets you 'on' the target consistently with a consistent ball flight reproduction I see no reason not to apply the process ..
      If you could do a short video and post it on the channel with a verbal accompanying explanation it would give us all more understanding of what you are doing..don't be shy .. we are 'all' up for anything that gets the process more easily applied ..
      cheers JH

      Hi Robin,
      You probably only have a mobile phone to do the video.. just take the video with the phone and plug the phone into your computer and it should tell you how to upload the video.
      After you upload the video just put it in a file .. you can then copy the file and paste it in your comment on my channel .. I am not familiar with phone videos .. I use a video camera which has its own proprietary uploading program... maybe some of the guys from the channel can pitch in and give you some more informed information..
      When you shoot the video do it from face on ..
      cheers JH
