    Adam, does your club have any playing members? The fairways and even the range in your videos are immaculate. I'm not sure I've ever seen anything like it. And yes, I'm super jealous. Great video by the way, really enjoy your instruction.

    I agree. When I was new and was told to hit down on the ball I was literally attempting to crush the ball into the dirt. For me before I became I pretty consistent golfer, discovering the simple back swing, sticking my butt out and especially the use of hips on my down swing rocketed my game.
    Since, I learned and practice that, I almost never chunk or top anything. Everything is pure. Went from a mid 90's golfer to breaking 85 every round with occasional 79 here and there. My issue now is that my putting is either atrocious or semi not atrocious depending on the day

    Hi there from Downunder! So if I understand correctly, the feeling you have, is pulling the grip of the club upwards and leftish? Are you keeping the wrists passive through the strike? Best for the New Year 🎉 Richard Down

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  5 місяців тому

      Thanks Richard. Yes, I’d say that’s about the feel, but over and above that is trying to feel what YOU need. Some people pull the club too much up and left through impact etc

    I swing downward on the ball to get backspin! (Not too steep); That creates lift, that’s physics. I focus on the ground underneath the ball and that works for me.

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  3 роки тому

      If it’s working for you then stick with it. Remember that although a slight downward hit is necessary for solid contact, in and of itself hitting down doesn’t produce backspin.

    Bowing the wrist makes me hook the ball. Is the setting up grip issue?

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  3 роки тому +1

      Hard to say without seeing you swing Daniel. Likely if your hands were farther forward at impact it would help.

    Correct me if i'm wrong .... the grip is going upwards fraction of a second before/at/after impact in fact CAUSE the clubhead is heading down towards the ball.... if u do not at all hit down at the ball the swing is gonna be pretty awful and extremely powerless (talking as if i was a high handicapper with little or no understanding of the game really) ... nobody should avoid hitting down ... BUT think and feel the compensation of making space by rising for good impact and not digging the club in the ground...

    I work on the half swing drill a lot and it works quite well....problem is when I take a full swing it all falls a part...maybe too much wrist cock on the full back swing? Thanks

  • @ikidd06
    @ikidd06 Рік тому +1

    Seems like the concepts your talking about happens so late in the downswing AND for a fraction of a second. Whereas, the concept of hitting down occurs early in the downswing (basically at the point of transition from the backswing). Also this earlier stage happens for a longer portion of time relative to the concept you're teaching. While everything you said makes sense, it happens so late where mostly momentum executes the physics of the dowmswing concept you've outlined here.

    Three worst pieces of golf advise:
    1. "Keep your head down."
    2. "Hit down on the ball."
    3. "You need this new club."

    Its a good video, but it becomes very aggravating to hear nearly every golf pro say "Do this, not this". A recent instructor insisted I sweep the ball, and all I can think is its because hitting down on hard driving range mats becomes painful.

  • @nige99

      Thanks. Forward shaft lean at address should account for the downward hit. On launch monitors this downward hit is about 4 degrees for a 7 iron, which is a very small amount.

      @@Scratchgolfacademy at the end of the day all you need is to be in control of your ball if your not in control of the ball and its unpredictable you aren't going to score well .... there is far to much do this do that on UA-cam just work it out for yourself and get it under control and par should be in reach fairly easily on most holes .....I honestly think we make it hard on ourselves
