I have a quick question. I have been on Keto for 9 months and lost 80 lbs. I have my blood tests every 3 month. A common theme is that my triglycerides are normal around 76 (last test was 78 MG/DL.) but my HDL is low (31 MG/DL). I was told to get fish oil so I am looking for the correct one (with minimal omega-6) and no or Linoleic acid .
    Any help would be appreciated.

@@ConsumerlabPlus I had heard that cod liver oil is better than fish oil ... we always took cod liver oil when I was growing up .
The fishy taste doesn't bother me I would rather have pure high quality cod liver oil without lemon added and without them removing the fish flavor because I'm starting to think the ones that don't have the fish flavor might also have an important fat removed ?
Do you know if I am wrong ?

    • @ConsumerlabPlus
      @ConsumerlabPlus  3 роки тому

@@gardensofthegods Cod liver oil is fish oil pressed from liver of codfish. So you'll get the omega-3 fatty acids normally found in fish oil, plus significant amounts of vitamins A, D, and E -- although most people don't need to supplement with A & E, and you can easily get vitamin D for pennies a day. So, if you don't eat fish, getting some fish oil may be a good idea, but cod liver oil isn't really necessary. Nevertheless, we have tested and reviewed cod liver oils as well -- the Review, with our Top Picks, is at www.consumerlab.com/reviews/vitamin-a-retinol-beta-carotene-cod-liver-oil/vitamin-a/#toppicks.

@@ConsumerlabPlus yes I will certainly check that out . Thank you for the info . Yes I know where cod liver oil comes from... my main interest in it is that it used to give me radiant glowing skin when I would ingest it .
And then I stopped taking it for a couple years .
When I started taking it again , brand I used which was a cheaper brand didn't seem to be working either that or I had suddenly developed malabsorption problems ... ?
I bought some Carlson's last year ... it didn't seem to make much of a difference and since I was already doing a good quality wheatgrass I don't want to risk the chance of vitamin A toxicity since wheatgrass is also high in vitamin A .
I just would love to find an oil I can ingest that would give my face and skin the glow I used to have ... and that was without even hardly putting anything on my skin !
Yes I would love to still have the brain food power from one of them ... someone suggested Salmon Oil was better for the neuro protective qualities .
Right now I am taking salmon oil ... but a smaller amount since it is gel caps (which I can't stand , and just like my oils in glass bottle nothing but liquid ) .

Carlson is a very good tried and true Fish Oil product. It’s been around forever ! I’m not a shareholder haha ! I’ve experimented with multiple brands over the last 15 years. Some of the Fish oils are ridiculously priced.
I took Vitamin Shoppe’s version for years without ever finding anything negative. But switched over to Carlson brand Fish oil after reading about the legacy of the company which in my opinion will dictate it’s honesty.
Why lie when millions of health conscious people are good customers? They get caught once and no one will ever purchase from Carlson again. Good luck !

I'm not a Dr.... I'm just a mother. I struggled for almost 8 years. In my opinion, what has worked for my son for the past year and half has been a consistent daily routine and bed time schedule. I make sure he sleeps at least 10+ hrs per day. I try my best to make sure he eats healthy whole foods daily (absolutely no low fat food, but good fats only, like avocado, etc). Lots of steam veggies for a good bowel movement (at least once a day). I use Carlson's cod liver oil and Garden of life- vitamin code for his vitamins. He has to play outside for at least 30 minutes a day(weather permits). I also took him out of the public school system. He's thriving and I have not gotten any negative complaints from any of his teachers. He's like a new kid and I can clearly see the changes in him. Good luck with your baby. You got this!

Coconut oil worked great for me until few years ago, hormones are kicking in. I'm 47. So the coconut oil started making my skin extra oily. Then the omega 3 did it, but it made my hair so fab! So I had to stop. But what can I do out there to get Omega 3 back? Its essential for healthy hair. Vegan, or plant based Omega 3 capsules? That's what I thought I read online. This video really isn’t very good, I’ve been taking cod liver oil since I was a child, it has natural occurring vitamin D, three vitamin a is retinol. In other words it’s a beauty secret from the inside out it keeps you from getting wrinkles and it’s a natural occurring sunscreen, also it has iodine for your thyroid and the best thing to do is keep it in the refrigerator when she bring it home that’s what I’ve always done and you can tell how good of quality it is when you put it in the refrigerator because if it’s not clear, then they’ve added some other type of stuff to it, I like Rosarita extra-virgin color oil but it’s too expensive for me right now so I get Nordic naturals or or old world garden of life cod, liver oil, seriously it even makes you smarter. I think I took it the whole time I was pregnant with all three of my children. All my family have very high IQs, so don’t make fun of my punctuation. It has nothing to do with my IQ. I have an accent I’m using my magnifying glass and Siri doesn’t understand me yet after all these years and it’s too hard for me to go back or maybe I just don’t want to and edit it, if you don’t believe me just do the research cod liver oil is the very best fish oil you could imagine to have not just regular fish oil plus if you get it in where it’s in the Nordic or Iceland, all right Alaska, you won’t get mercury in it, anyway, I just thought I’d tell you that if you can afford $52, then get Rosarita it is the very best, that Nordic naturals is what I’ve been taking for years. Someday I will get Rosarita extra-virgin cod, liver oil.

For nearly two decades, the American Heart Association (AHA) has recommended that people with coronary heart disease (CHD) consume omega-3-fatty acids (the kinds of fatty acids found in fish and fish oil) to prevent another heart attack. This recommendation was based on early randomized, controlled trials, which found that fish oil supplementation was associated with lower rates of stroke, heart attack, and death in people who already had heart disease. On the other hand, the impact of fish oil supplements on preventing a first heart attack or stroke (primary prevention) was never clearly demonstrated.
Recently there have been large trials examining the complex relationship between fish oil and heart health. The results have been mixed and somewhat confusing, leaving both patients and physicians to wonder: will fish oil supplements reduce my risk of heart disease?
What’s the connection between fish oil and heart health?
How might omega-3-fatty acids found in fish oil provide heart health? Multiple possibilities have been proposed and are supported by animal research. These protective mechanisms include
stabilizing blood flow in and around the heart
    reducing blood triglyceride levels
    lowering blood pressure
    preventing blood clots
    reducing inflammation.
Research examining each of these is ongoing.
    Many studies, varied results
Despite these animal data, clinical studies in humans have not consistently supported the protective benefits of fish oil supplementation.
A meta‐analysis published in JAMA Cardiology found no clear benefit to fish oil supplements in preventing heart disease or major cardiovascular disease (CVD) events such as heart attack or stroke, in people who were at increased risk for CVD.
This was followed by the publication of the ASCEND and VITAL trials, both with mixed results. In ASCEND, which examined diabetic patients without known CHD, fish oil supplements did not reduce heart attacks or strokes, but did significantly lower risk of death from heart attack and stroke. VITAL examined the effects of fish oil on primary prevention in people with regular risk of heart disease, and also failed to find a significant reduction in all major CVD events. However, there were fewer heart attacks in study subjects who took fish oil supplements, particularly in those who did not eat fish.
The REDUCE‐IT trial was published next. This trial looked at the effect of high-dose fish oil supplements on people with high blood triglyceride levels who were at elevated CVD risk. In contrast to previous studies, REDUCE-IT found a significant reduction in cardiovascular events among study subjects who took the high-dose fish oil supplements. While most studies have tested 1 gram or less of fish oil with a combination of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic (DHA), REDUCE-IT used a dose of 4 grams of EPA alone. (Vascepa, a prescription version of the EPA fish oil supplement used in REDUCE-IT, is FDA-approved to treat very high triglyceride levels of 500 mg/dl or higher. In November, an FDA advisory panel unanimously voted in favor of expanding approved use of Vascepa. If the FDA follows the advisory panel’s recommendation, Vascepa will be able to be prescribed to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events like heart attack and stroke. The FDA decision is expected in late December.)
In October 2019, a repeat of the JAMA Cardiology meta-analysis, but now including 13 trials instead of the original 10, was published in the Journal of the American Heart Association. The addition of these three trials increased the sample size by almost 65%, from 77,917 study participants to 127,477 participants. In reanalyzing the expanded data, researchers found that fish oil omega‐3 supplements lowered risk for heart attack and CHD death. There was no effect on stroke. Interestingly, risk reductions appeared to be linearly related to omega‐3 dose. In other words, the higher the dose, the greater the risk reduction.
What does this mean for you?
Omega-3 supplements from fish oil appear to be heart-healthy and have a protective effect on CHD. But before we all start reaching for supplements, it may be worth following a heart-healthy diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables, with lean protein such as fish, as recommended by the AHA. For those of us at highest risk, especially those with elevated triglyceride levels, it is worth speaking with your physician about high dose EPA fish oil supplements.

I’m telling you the honest truth, all she really need is 1 tablespoon a day and it’s better to take the liquid not capsules cause you’re gonna have to take twice as much and it doesn’t taste bad I don’t even like fish no kind of fish but I can handle cod liver oil because it’s not that fishy smell and fish And when I see the benefits I mean, especially if you like to have soft skin and feet I mean he almost don’t have to ever worry about wearing lotion. It’s that good and it’s fantastic for your eyesight seriously because of the vitamin a and it’s not beta carotene it’s retinol That I had a health food store for 30 years someday I’m gonna have a UA-cam channel so I can help people because I know so many of the actual people that sell these things and how they’re handled so I know who to buy the best from does it matter how many clinical studies I do I’m talking about people that’s been in this business for like family business you know for centuries

Dear Dr. Cooperman, I would love to know, how about the effect of the omega 3 combined with polyphenols in relation to absolrption by the body. The multilevel brand Zinzino claims, they have the best oil (in the world probably), since they use polyphenols as the antioxidant. Thats why the ratio omega3 VS omega 6 is ideal in the body, when you use this product. They claim, it absorbs much better and stays in body longer. I just cant understand, why the rest of the world would not use polyphenols, if this was true... ? I would be greateful if you had time to response to this.
