Are you confused when it comes to buying omega-3 supplements? You know they’re good for you, but with so many options available, how do you know which is best for your health and your wallet? This video will help you make a more informed decision.
Omega-3 fats are essential for your heart and brain health, your mood, anti-inflammation, and more. And while most health practitioners would agree on the benefits of supplementing with omega-3s, the wealth of options available online, in pharmacies, and health food stores, vary wildly in price, potency, and quality. So, if you’re spending hundreds of dollars a year on these lipids, you want to make sure you’re making a good choice.
In this video I’ll help you get a better understanding of what to look for when choosing an omega-3 supplement, the key differences between sources, label red flags to watch out for, and crucially how to get the best value for money.
    VIDEO CONTENTS
    00:00 Omega-3 benefits

    DISCLAIMER
This video is for educational purposes only. Omega-3 fats can interact with some medications, specifically blood thinners, so always consult with your doctor before making dietary and nutritional changes.
    WHY ARE OMEGA-3s SO BENEFICIAL?
Omega-3 fats are a type of essential fatty indispensable for overall wellbeing. They support heart health by reducing triglycerides, lowering blood pressure and the risk of abnormal heart rhythms. They also promote brain function and development, enhancing memory and cognitive abilities, making them vital for all age groups.
Additionally, Omega-3s possess potent anti-inflammatory properties, helping to alleviate conditions like arthritis and improving joint health. They can even aid in mood regulation, potentially reducing the risk of depression and anxiety.

DHA is the real power house in Omega oil.
EPA is very limited in positive health effects.
How much DHA it has should be the first focus.

    1. Bottle should be dark or opaque.
    2. Source should be among fish, krill, algae. More on this later.
    3. Cost per dose calculation. Epa + dha atleast 1g per day.
    4. Red flag - ethyl esters, exp date, no boutique brands
    5. Buy 3 month supply max.
    6. Prefer smaller fish' oils, larger fish means more chances of toxicity. Krill and algae are pretty expensive, but more ethical.

According to Dr.Rhonda Patrick, fishoil manufacturers convert it to ethyl ester form to extract out the mercury in the fish...so-called molecular distillation.
Since Krill is at the bottom of the food-chain, it doesn't collect mercury or much other toxins that need to be extracted out.

It seems that we should also consider the level of oxidation while digesting the omegas
And It seems that polyphenol oil sufficiently stabilises the omega-3 so they are able to make it all the way to our cell membranes where they play a crucial role
In means of anti-inflammatory effect of omega-3 we also need it to oxidate the oil as slow as possible so the anti-inflammatory effect lasts as long as possible

I live on a small island, surrounded by sea, and unfortunately it's becoming more difficult to get seafood. Seafood is becoming very expensive. I still eat fish once or twice a week and add tuna to my salads. However, very little of this is local and they're still expensive compared to other food. It's scary to think what's going on within the food industry.
Fun fact: One time I bought more than what I could consume during the whole summer, and didn't keep them in a cool place. Lets say... my intestines were not happy 🤣

I think key points for choosing omega 3 are:
    1. Sources - where the company sources their ingredients?
    2. How they are processed?
    3. Of course see the reviews but beware of paid reviews which are now a norm in the market.
Boutique vs mass produce does not necessarily mean their products are bad.

Good morning really enjoyed your instructional video. I found it very fascinating. I was hoping that you were going to mention walnuts for a source of omega-3‘s. I was also going to suggest that you go to Costco and get the Mexicans sourced avocado oil. My wife and I have been getting it there for at least 3 to 4 years now Because of our interest in avocado oil and coconut oil for the CMT‘s give me a shot. I think it’s doing great information. Keep up the great work and thanks for explaining, have a wonderful year very prosperous.

Thank you for sharing all this information on Omega-3 fats. However, I do wish you had also covered liquid fish oil brands such as Barleans, which I have been taking for years now. The good ones are pharmaceutical grade, meaning all the toxins have been removed, and they are a good high dosage of EPA and DHA as well. An added benefit is no fishy taste or aftereffects such as belching, and they come in pleasant flavors. I first found out about the benefits of fish oil when reading the Zone diet books by Dr. Barry Sears years ago. It seems the health industry has only recently caught up to the great benefits omega-3 fats in the diet.

I like the Costco Southern Ocean Omega 3. They seem to have the best contaminant load, compared to Northern fish. 1200mg for .45. I also have flax meal with my morning porridge.

A good introductory video on omega-3 supplementation as it relates to their benefits and degradation. (Degraded or oxidized fish oil is now accepted by experts as not only less beneficial but more importantly as potentially harmful to our body.) However, this host may not have seen the most recent data that suggests that as much as 70% of fish oil supplements sold become rancid by the time of purchase. It is well known that even in glycerin capsule form fish oil oxidizes. The best way to avoid it is to buy it as a bottled liquid and not in the pill form which can conceal or mask the oxidative damage associated with rancid fish oil.

    • @radhikajujjavarapu6971
      @radhikajujjavarapu6971 13 днів тому

But then every time the bottle is opened and closed it will oxidize more than the pill?

The big difference with krill oil is that it is better absorbed by the body, and it has Astaxanthin in it.

Thank you for the clear and helpful video.
Every time my Omega3s run low, I go through a similar process determining my next purchase.
For cooking I mostly use avocado oil, also some olive oil and grass fed butter. Avocado is neutral tasting and has a high smoke point. Avocado oil is not at all difficult to find or expensive. Most grocery stores including Aldi have avocado oil; there are many brands on Amazon, mostly around 50 cents a fluid ounce. Unless you are deep frying that is affordable. Of course unhealthy chemically extracted oils are always cheaper than cold pressed oil but understanding their health effects, why make yourself suffer?

Very useful and informative. Correct re: flax and chia (and walnuts) plenty of alpha linoleic acid (ALA) but poorly converted to EPA, around 2-4% at best. There are a couple of enzymatic steps to EPA and not everyone is great at conversion, especially with age. However there is one plant based EFA which is rare but obtainable called stearidonic acid SDA) which only needs one enzyme step to convert to EPA. Rich sources are Echium oil and Ahiflower oil, vegans might consider supplements in addition to algal oil to boost their EPA.

Ethyl Ester forms are still prevalent. I think you can assume it is in that form rather than the better Triglyceride form if the label doesn't advise it is the TG form. Ethyl Esters require the pancreas to process them which the TG do not ...

My grandmother used to grind flaxseed and take a teaspoon daily within food or just with some water and I used to take same dose with her.
Since she died I stopped:") but I will do this again for sure:)❤
