New Research! DHA/Atrial fibrillation: unless you have very little fish in your diet, diabetes or are African-American according to one research study, The increased risk of atrial fibrillation with DHA actually increases risk rather than decreases. They are now offering EPA by prescription as a result, although it's already available on Amazon. the reason we get more omega-6 fatty acids in omega-3 fatty acids in our diet usually has to do with the way our food is grown, greatly the amount of green versus grass in the diet of animals such as beef and chicken. And a lack of a chemical I'm only learning about now, DPA, seems to allow the body to turn EPA to DHA and back again, although I've only looked at one peer-reviewed research article about this so far. Meanwhile, if someone has already got atrial fibrillation, they shouldn't have DHA by itself without looking at the research first. It says that it almost doubles the risk of heart attacks from this condition. When you made this video, this information hadn't been published yet. it would be wonderful if you could add to it or make a new video to include the new information - and for me, I'm not going near algae oil.
One more consideration in choosing which OMEGA-3 to buy is capsule size. I recently bought a bottle of Nature Made softgels that are an inch long and the largest that I've ever swallowed. They're so big that I have to follow them with food to get them to go down. Next time, I'm going to try to find something smaller, even if it means swallowing a few more. When shopping, I noticed a few brands with "half size" softgels. People who don't like swallowing really large pills might want to look for those.

A good introductory video on omega-3 supplementation as it relates to their benefits and degradation. (Degraded or oxidized fish oil is now accepted by experts as not only less beneficial but more importantly as potentially harmful to our body.) However, this host may not have seen the most recent data that suggests that as much as 70% of fish oil supplements sold become rancid by the time of purchase. It is well known that even in glycerin capsule form fish oil oxidizes. The best way to avoid it is to buy it as a bottled liquid and not in the pill form which can conceal or mask the oxidative damage associated with rancid fish oil.
Thank you for the clear and helpful video. Every time my Omega3s run low, I go through a similar process determining my next purchase. For cooking I mostly use avocado oil, also some olive oil and grass fed butter. Avocado is neutral tasting and has a high smoke point. Avocado oil is not at all difficult to find or expensive. Most grocery stores including Aldi have avocado oil; there are many brands on Amazon, mostly around 50 cents a fluid ounce. Unless you are deep frying that is affordable. Of course unhealthy chemically extracted oils are always cheaper than cold pressed oil but understanding their health effects, why make yourself suffer?

I could have sworn I was subbed to you but alas it says I am not. I have been looking into Omegas for a little while now because they are also supposed to be beneficial for depression, stress and S.A.D But man lemme tell you this will surely toss you down a rabbit hole lol. Good to see such an informative video (and without you trying to sell us!). We need more Bergs, Hubermans and Rockwood's in the world. Information on how to better your life, your health, and your well-being should ALWAYS be free. IMO anyway. Supplements, programs, products; they can be and should be paid to aid in research, tech, better products, testing, etc. But information on how to get started should always be something that everyone has access to despite how much they make, what their education is, what their status is, if they have a job, etc. Thanks for sharing, Lucas.
Great video! It's important to emphasize the need to balance and test our omega-3 ratios. Many ordinary fish, krill, and algae oils don't cut it because they often become rancid before we can absorb their benefits at a cellular level. This rancidity compromises their bioavailability, meaning our bodies can't utilize them effectively. To truly support heart and brain health, we need supplements that not only provide the right types of omega-3s but also maintain their freshness and potency. Investing in high-quality, test-based products can make all the difference in achieving optimal health!
I found Irish sea moss not only gives you the omegas you want, but also a good source of iodine (something we lack in North America), in addition to other nutrients. I used your calculous and they are your best value for nutrients/$$$. Also highly sustainable.
Very useful and informative. Correct re: flax and chia (and walnuts) plenty of alpha linoleic acid (ALA) but poorly converted to EPA, around 2-4% at best. There are a couple of enzymatic steps to EPA and not everyone is great at conversion, especially with age. However there is one plant based EFA which is rare but obtainable called stearidonic acid SDA) which only needs one enzyme step to convert to EPA. Rich sources are Echium oil and Ahiflower oil, vegans might consider supplements in addition to algal oil to boost their EPA.
Wouldn't it be better to get cod liver oil? It has omega 3s and also vitamin d and vitamin a. All you need to add is K2 and magnesium and you have perfect combination.

You can eat the weed purslane, it very high in omega 3. Most of it is ALA and purslane is high in oxalate, though. Seems if you feed your chickens purslane, they will convert a lot to DHA and their eggs will be high in DHA. I dont mind eating a little bit of it when weeding my garden, but i couldnt eat a lot of it. I put flaxseed oil in my curried eggs, as the curry masks the taste, and have some of that most days.
I need to focus on my epa dha intake again. Thanks for the clear info. I like to add health costs into the equation of expenses down the road. Im grateful i can afford the algae oil, and that flax and chia are readily available in my grocery stores.

Even if you're already taking an Omega-3 supplement, it can be really insightful to see how your levels stack up. If you're interested, I'd love to share more details with you.
Capsules may contain oxidiced fatty acids which are bad. You should take the oil with spoon and only use the oils which are good flavor. There are good oils available, like
Flaxseed flour called Farinha de Linhaça is popular here in Brazil. Chia seed flour is less common but I still see it quite a bit. The flour forms are probably better to mix in liquids like yougert.

My brand is King Oscar. I also may use Wild Planet, Starkist, Chicken of the Sea, Ocean Prince, or Season. My go-to is King Oscar.
Luke, you are so amazing to watch. I love the energy you convey to us - a sense of genuineness that really reaches out to us. I have been watching your videos for some time. This was a very informative video.
Thanks for your support, Shifa!
I found your videos this week seeking relief from severe sciatica pain.
Glad you found relief with our videos!

Thanks for this concise yet apt video.
We are lucky in Europe, those supplements are good quality and very affordable.
So well explained. First time watching your video but I subscribed without knowing your channel content. Thank you!
Hope you can learn more on health and wellness through our videos! - YOGABODY Team
Thank you for sharing so valuable information.
I needed to know how to choose between 2 brands and now I know that the cheaper one is not really cheap. It contains less active ingredients.
Comparing some bottles of “the same” vitamins, I understood the price difference. This is so liberating.
I know how to choose now, regardless of the brand.
Glad it helped!

Great content. I'm surprised you didn't mention Omega-3 oil in oil form as a viable supplement.
Hi Mike - great point. I find most people can't take the smell / taste of it. But it's a great option, you're right.
Is it a better option if one can tolerate it?@@YOGABODY.Official
I am so glad I found you! I am learning sooooo much❤
Awesome information on omega 3, appreciated :)
This video is absolutely amazing! I am subscribed to body yoga and it’s a favorite that is my go to for most things that I have questions about. you're welcome 👍

Hi Lucas, great video. I am from India. Please guide as how much Epa & Dha is enough for a 53 year young woman 😊 and also can I take all three - fish oil, flax seeds and chia seeds?
Thanks in advance.
53 year old woman, not 53 year young 😂
I appreciate this. Thanks so much for the support!
Thank you, Lucas! Very informative as always!
Great points. Thanks for sharing your insights.

I found Irish sea moss not only gives you the omegas you want, but also a good source of iodine (something we lack in North America), in addition to other nutrients. I used your calculous and they are your best value for nutrients/$$$. Also highly sustainable.
no sea moss no good mite work for you but it over hype
Very useful and informative. Correct re: flax and chia (and walnuts) plenty of alpha linoleic acid (ALA) but poorly converted to EPA, around 2-4% at best. There are a couple of enzymatic steps to EPA and not everyone is great at conversion, especially with age. However there is one plant based EFA which is rare but obtainable called stearidonic acid SDA) which only needs one enzyme step to convert to EPA. Rich sources are Echium oil and Ahiflower oil, vegans might consider supplements in addition to algal oil to boost their EPA.
Appreciate you sharing your knowledge here. Thanks. - YOGABODY Team
Wouldn't it be better to get cod liver oil? It has omega 3s and also vitamin d and vitamin a. All you need to add is K2 and magnesium and you have perfect combination.
Thanx for analysing the types of omega 3 then you'll know which is the ryt one not to buy unnecessary stuff that's not gonna work
The big difference with krill oil is that it is better absorbed by the body, and it has Astaxanthin in it.
Im trying krill oil now, but the EPA DHA are low combined to 370 mg 🤨
@@Medoritchie You can’t compare it fish oil though as it’s better absorbed by the body, and it has Astaxanthin in it.
Fantastic. I have gathered lot knowledge about it and before buying definitely will check all this shbject. Thanking you very much.

Finally! A video that gets straight to the point! Thank you so much. I'll be taking your advice on the next purchase. Thank you!
👍
Kommi:
1. Bottle should be dark or opaque.
2. Source should be among fish, krill, algae. More on this later.
3. Cost per dose calculation. Epa + dha atleast 1g per day.
4. Red flag - ethyl esters, exp date, no boutique brands
5. Buy 3 month supply max.
6. Prefer smaller fish' oils, larger fish means more chances of toxicity. Krill and algae are pretty expensive, but more ethical.
Merci pour vos vidéos - claires, concises, précises
I dont buy med stuff from Amazon anymore; learned my lesson with the biofreeze I got for $50. This vid is very useful, next time I'll look at all the labels before buying fish oil.
It's wise to be cautious about buying medical stuff from Amazon.Checking labels before purchasing fish oil is a smart move. Stay informed and make savvy choices! 💡

Good point
Thank you for the clarity especially the numbers and amber bottle color.
Question about calculation: if it is 2 pills per day and there are 200 pills in a bottle, would it be a 100 day supply? The video says 50 day supply.
Sorry, careless mistake... I was doing the math on all three bottles and we mixed up the math shown with / shown.
What a great video, as always ! Truly love your content, thank you, Lucas ! With much appreciation for your time and knowledge !
Thank you so much for your kind words and support!

I need to focus on my epa dha intake again. Thanks for the clear info. I like to add health costs into the equation of expenses down the road. Im grateful i can afford the algae oil, and that flax and chia are readily available in my grocery stores.
Best omega 3 video I have seen. Thanks
Thank you for the feedback!

Thank you Lucas, Now I can shop for my Omega 3's with confidence.
Just stumbled across your video ... wow!! What great info and i sight .. i really appreciate your honesty .. I'm a subscriber now!!
You lost me at 4:13. If the bottle is 200 pills and a dose is 2 pills, wouldn't that be a 100 day supply?
That’s my maths as well 🤔
Should you keep your Omegas in the fridge?
Yes, slows oxidation.
Same reason you keep any food in your fridge
Hi there, I noticed you are mindful about Omega-3 supplementation-so awesome! Have you ever thought about testing your Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio? Even if you're already taking an Omega-3 supplement, it can be really insightful to see how your levels stack up. If you're interested, I'd love to share more details with you.
@@Jantoené yes please share that information. Also, I recently started fatty 15.
Thank you for your research and providing great information.
My bottle says wild Alaskan salmon Fish oil 1000mg. Omega-3-0. EPA-80 DHA-0 .15 cent per count 😢 I eat 1 can of sardines a day in olive oil
vege oil😂
Capsules may contain oxidiced fatty acids which are bad. You should take the oil with spoon and only use the oils which are good flavor. There are good oils available, like
Am I the only one scratching my head as to how 200 pills is a 50 day supply?
4 a day , I guess?
0.5 dollar per day
It’s stated above by him that he made a mistake, should be 100 pills not 200.
200 pills become 50 day supply when you have 4 pills per day
I think you are because everyone else has taken the time to read the apology for mistake?
Thank you good info ...1st time viewer
Definitely sticking to the Algae oil, the fish documentaries I've seen are very disturbing. I wish people knew how cruel eating animals is.
ok
Avocado oil is found at HEBs, costcp, and definitely Target. "Chosen" brand us in dark glass bottle form
this was so useful;thanks
Thank you for your smile. Thank you for the valuable information. Much appreciated.

I spent 30 mins on this video, just b/c how can one have 200 pills only 50 days😂. Should be 100 days right?
You're right, it's 100. Sorry for the confusion!

😂 I can relate...me too
Very Excellent Education Video. I call not only educational video but your good feelings for human kind. Salute to you. All the Best.
NoSeedOils....
Y?
Seed oils contain ALA, and the conversion rate of that in the body to DHA and EPA is really low.

@randomclips4677
@@brunodangelo1146 I would like to know reference link or study which says ALA is not potent as dha epa

Flaxseed flour called Farinha de Linhaça is popular here in Brazil.
Chia seed flour is less common but I still see it quite a bit. The flour forms are probably better to mix in liquids like yougert.
