I have been taking Cod Liver Oil for 30 Years guaranteed from cold water fish. I started after living with knee pain when in my fifties. I am 87 now in perfect health, with absolutely no joint pain. The reason I continued it! Almost every one I know have had serious joint problems.

I had a stroke 18 months ago and I started taking fish oil and craving/eating tinned salmon afterwards. A year later all the grey matter in my brain had grown back, there was no tissue damage on the MRI. The neurologist said it was a miracle, the tissue isn’t supposed to grow back apparently. My mind is probably sharper in some ways that it was before the stroke. I truly believe this is down to fish oil and salmon. When I have a craving day I find I have some more recovery improvement a few weeks after. I still have a few minor issues with my affected side, but each day I get better and stronger. Fish oil is a lifesaver. 💜

Went to a neurologist to test my legs to see if my OA was interfering with the nerves to my feet. After describing the constant pain I was in the doctor off-handedly suggested I take fish oil. I sort of blew him off but within 6 months my outdoor heavy maintenance job was taking a painful toll on me. I had run marathons and lifted heavy weights all my life in the military and the AO was killing me. One day in desperation I took a whole handful of fish oil capsules and was literally pain-free for three days. That was 15 years ago. Since then I’ve cut back dramatically on all carbs and starches, lost 35 lbs and have been able to cut back to just five capsules a day. I maintain by walking a couple miles a day, biking, lifting and watching my diet and am retired, living a virtually pain free life. I guess I’m enjoying the other benefits of taking omega 3 as a sideline!

I was raised in England after the war and every household was given Cod Liver Oil for children because Rickets was prominent. As a retired Flight Attendant with Air Canada I took Cod Liver oil when there was a R in the month, re no sun. Food today doesn’t have the nutrients in it. By the time fruit is harvested in California etc., then radiated at the border it has lost everything good. Same as meat and Chickens all injected with antibiotics and kept in small places. I now live in Victoria British Columbia where I go to the farm and get my eggs and see the chickens running around. Fresh fruit and vegetables without spray. Grass fed meat. Salmon straight out of the ocean. However, I still take a teaspoon of the best Norwegian Cod liver oil. I am 78 years old with no aches or pains and perfect eyesight with good bones. Having a Tuscan mother has influenced me. Your right I pay for the best Norwegian Cod Liver oil, expensive but worth it. Again you are right, I believe my cod liver oil is a preventative not a cure. The rubbish I see in peoples supermarket trolley today causes many problems to the body. The laziness by buying prepackaged food to stick in the microwave is like eating cardboard when it comes to nutrients. Thank you for your channel.

@ 15:50 I like the added clarity I got from this portion of the discussion. Framing the advantageous aspects of Fish oil as it applies to one being DEFICIENT is greatly meaningful over framing it as a "benefit". As mentioned, probably most folks are deficient. This deficiency has wide reaches. Seems so many issues that the body develops comes from (abnormal, overzealous) inflammatory responses. Standard medicine addresses/targets one thing, while exacerbating (or developing) other things. Doesnt look at whole picture. Some "supplements" are truly "beneficial" in that they address the deficiency, which then addresses the greater picture--which is to create homeostasis in our bodies, to set ourselves back to "normal". The take away is to know that we are deficient before embarking on taking something to address it.
I get complete labs done, including vitamin D. I had been told to take Fish oil (4000-5000 mg) and D3 (5000 iu). My D levels were clinically very low. I'm low normal now. The latter I take with regularity, but it has taken me entirely too long to find a fish oil supplement that didnt make me feel ill. Recently I found 2 that produce no ill feeling, and I am hoping they are of good quality. I do eat sardines, mackeral, salmon. I am not consistent though. I am also adjusting my diet. Not a major overhaul, but am trying to be more inclusive of some foods, while reducing others. Even so, foods cant be entirely relied upon to get everything we need. I use other supplements to "bridge the gap". So I understand the appeal, yet also understand that they may not be needed. Anyway, thanks for the info and thanks forgiving me more to think about. Take care!

I asked AI to sum up what this video said and it said
"Fish oil is an essential source of omega-3 fatty acids which are important for brain function and growth and development. There are different types of omega-3 fatty acids, but the most important ones are eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). EPA and DHA are found in fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, and sardines. If you don’t eat fish regularly, you can take fish oil supplements to get enough omega-3 fatty acids. However, it is important to choose a good brand of fish oil that concentrates the fish oils and extracts them very carefully to leave all the heavy metals and PCBs behind. Fish oil helps normalize inflammatory responses which can help prevent chronic low grade inflammation that causes cardiovascular disease, diabetes, metabolic disease and other degenerative diseases. Fish oil is also a precursor for hormones and chemical messengers and builds cell membranes which are critical for every cell in the body to function properly. If you are deficient in omega-3 fatty acids, taking fish oil supplements can help improve your health. A good brand of fish oil will usually have a three to two ratio of EPA versus DHA. However, some people need different ratios of EPA to DHA depending on what they’re looking for."

Eating fish nowadays poses a significant issue due to two main factors: the elevated mercury levels and the release of discarded plastic fuel additives from vehicle exhaust. This concern has arisen following the recent approval by the EPA of a fuel ingredient, which carries a lifetime cancer risk more than 1 million times higher than the agency's typical acceptable threshold. Consequently, depending on one's location, what was once considered a superfood, fish, may no longer be a healthy choice

Algae Oil is in most cases produced on land, therefore it is free of toxins. It is higher in DHA than EPA. There's also DPA which the body can convert to either EPA or DHA as needed.
A bottle with the liquid oil has advantages over capsules: When you take the oil with a spoon, you taste if it is rancid. Capsules typically also cost more than bottled from the same manufacturer.

    • @drydessert4198
      @drydessert4198 11 місяців тому +2

@@conniekampas7074 You most likely have heard about fish oil. Algae are plants that grow in water (aquatic plants). many are microscopically small. Some algae produce omega 3 fatty acids. The algae are eaten by small animals (krill). The small animals are eaten by fish. That's how the fish get their omega 3. It all starts with the algae. The advantage is that algae can be grown in a facility on land where you have salt water that is free of heavy metals which are in the ocean. With fish oil, the manufacturers have to filter out the contaminants. I am not sure if that always works 100%. I am taking a brand that is sold in Germany. The name probably won't help you and youtube would potentially flag this as spam. If you do a little bit of research, I am sure that you will find a brand you are willing to trust that sells in the country you are are.

I feel fish oil capsules helped a lot with my triglycerides “ brand levels and kept my sugars and BP in check too- I didn’t have any diabetes or BP when I took those during younger days - it acted like a general health tonic, and kept all my blood levels normal -now he said to stop it after my cancer so I had stopped taking and all my lipid panel levels etc became worse ! Though it was a good supplement which kept my organs running smoothly I feel - now I have been told not to take it - since I don’t eat fish( being a vegetarian eat only plant based foods ), I still take a fish oil supplement now and then ( started recently two weeks back) just one capsule of metagenics “ brand 0:01 fish oil one capsule every other day! Dr. Sten: I grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin in the 50s and 60s. The only fish we ate, and not regularly, were perch, blue gills, crappie, and walleye. Otherwise a lot of milk, cheese, beef, pork, chicken, canned and frozen veggies/fruits. We had NO supplements. I'm a chemical engineer with a 130 IQ. Help me connect the dots on how my brain developed with no cold water ocean fish. Now we eat salmon about twice a week.

Cattle, particularly grass-fed cattle, has a good proportion of Omega-3s to Omega 6s. So any fats (including butter and cream) from those cows will give you Omega-3s. It's not as good as the proportion in fatty fish, but it's better than the amount in any other food

@@nataliajimenez1870Thank you. Good to know. Our beef was Holstein (the cows) and Angus artificial insemination cross bred steers. The young bulls were castrated and roamed the pasture with the milking cows. At 22 months they were finished on alfalfa and timothy grass dry hay for two months. At 24 months they filled our freezer. I don't know where to get beef like that anymore. The chickens were free range, eating a lot of insects.

I been taking Norwegian Cod liver oil for the last 2 year and to be honest, I don’t know if it changed anything, but my joints doesn’t make any noise whatsoever.

I started taking cod liver oil a few months ago, sometimes remembered, sometimes didn't, early on, last couple of months have been pretty consistent. I have recently been diagnosed with severe osteoporosis, and have just been grabbing at whatever might help...anything. Anyhoo, I started taking Vit D religiously at the start of covid, 10,000 ius, just in case, dropped back to 5000 maybe two years ago. So, I was taking a healthy amount, so much my husband started fearing I must have toxic levels. But in March, when I started seeing a naturopath, but before I had made many other changes, my Vit D level was 44. Decent but not ODing, for sure.
I continued to take the 5000 iu with the cod liver oil, because I'd read it was better absorbed with fat.
Oh man, was it ever. In August endocrinologist tested D, I was at 107. After 3 1/2 years of pretty hefty doses and still being at 44, to jump to 107 seems like I really wasn't absorbing it well. Now, I am. And yes, I'm doing the cod liver oil only, no additional D. at least for now.

    Hi thanks for this
Don’t the supplements come in harmful packaging, ie isn’t the pill they’re contained in made of hydrogenated oil or something harmful ?
    Thanks

Can you discuss the controversy / arguments that DHA or (EPA and DHA) in some studies were associated with increased rate of prostate cancer? Would you give credence more to either side?
