- 5 Months since the release of the Soundstream Reserve HDHU14+ Harley Davidson GTS Style Radio. How is the reliability and what does it now do after the latest software updates.
Disable Auto Lighting detect for a brighter screen, this will allow manual selection of Day or Night mode from the Home Screen. The scosche thumb control module sends a signal to dim the radio anytime the headlight is on. A later software update will default this feature off.

Great info. Really like how you explained the low level noise vs. the high input. A lot of people don't like to use the high level inputs because it's a little more complicated than just simply plugging in RCAs. But the advantage is huge. When I did deck installs I already told people to buy a deck with a higher voltage output. They always wondered why because those decks used to cost more lol. This is why. Long story short awesome info thanks.

I brought it and paired it with the 6'' 1/2 Neo speakers. Its sounds clear but still fine tuning the eq.
Great video, very informative, and now knowing all this, the only negative for me is when I’m riding I like my navigation in my ears. The music is nice when your “bar hopping” or cruising around town, but I’m just so use to using my Sena for long trips that my RG lacks the Audio portion of owning a HD.

This is definitely a radio I can use as I don't care about all the fluff, just want music and GPS anyway. I am old school and know how to use my iPhone to do whatever I want. I have always thought the GTS was over kill for most people and for sure me. I will miss the maintenance display though. It isn't much but enough to see at the same time. I realize if something needs attention, it will display just below the speedo, in the little bitty screen lol Well, being old school, if I get the notification that something is wrong, I am probably too late at that point to do anything about it. Whenever I start my bike I thumb through everything, just to make sure all is good to go. Not having that will take some getting used to.

I bought the soundstream radio and hertz amp setup from you to run 4 speaker setup. I have no idea about tuning and EQ Bands. The 600 watt hertz is tuned flat. I would love to see a custom EQ. I really don’t want to blow my speakers.
have you tried the Imaestro DDR1 to control the boom amps for can control? just wondered.
I wish they had 2 usb ports. one for carplay and the other usb thumb drive.

It can be wired to turn on and function but thumb controls would be difficult to maintain
I installed this radio after getting it from you guys, it's a GREAT radio, looks awesome, fits perfect, sounds even better. My only thing is, unless I missed it somewhere, is there a way to enable the volume to raise up as I speed up? I know the factory unit did this, volume would increase with speed. Thanks !!!
If you're running aftermarket amps, you will not want that feature enabled. I've heard that is a good way to blow your speakers.
No, there is not a speed volume control, and as BigMod34 pointed out, you DO NOT want that with aftermarket amps.

I’ve had this unit for awhile now, it’s nice, I like the CarPlay option. I don’t miss the HD stuff you lose with this unit but I do wish they had made it so you could hear it through a headset like Cardo or Sena. Not everyone want to go down the highway with the radio cranked up super high. Plus on the highway I wear a full face helmet and use the Cardo to talk with wife and others we ride it. A little forward thinking on the part of Soundstream could have made this a super unit. But it’s just ok.
If you're using a Cardo, you're phone (if its a newer phone within the last couple years) should be able to connect to both the Cardo and the head unit at the same time. You can connect the Cardo for calls only and then the head unit for GPS/Music. If you want it all to play on the Cardo, just connect the phone fully to the Cardo and use turn by turn directions on your phone in your pocket, no screen needed.
@@breedlofam I assume by head unit you are referring to the HDHU 14. If that is correct, you cannot connect the Cardo or any other headset to the HDHU 14. If you know some magical way to do please share the information. Thanks
@@slbell5260connect the head unit and CARDO to your phone at the same time. The CARDO would be set to calls only allowing the phone to use your head unit for music only. If you want the music and the phone to be on the CARDO, don't connect to the head unit at all. Not sure why you'd want the music and calls to route through the head unit at all.
@@slbell5260 most new phones allow you to connect to two devices at the same time. You have to change the Bluetooth settings on your phone. So you can have just audio to the head unit and calls and audio to the CARDO. You can turn the volume down on the head unit and up on the CARDO for example. There's no reason to route through the head unit as that was something that people needed before newer phone
@@breedlofam I understand what your saying but it won’t work with CarPlay, which was the reason to get the HDHU 14. Around town the way it works is ok since I wear a short helmet, but when I. On the highway I wear a full face helmet and I don’t want to have to crank the volume up super high to hear it. I now everyone here loves the HDHU14, but in this day and age of tech and since this unit was made for HD motorcycle it seems to me they should have taken into account of being able to use the the onboard headset hookup or come up with a way to tell Bluetooth contact a com system like the Cardo to the HDHU14 and than tell the unit to either play through the bike’s speakers or through the headset. I have talked with the guys from Volunteer Audio and the Tech guys at Soundstream and they all say it can be done, with that my opinion the system is flawed. I will most likely remove it from the bike and return the original head until. And try and sell the HDHU to someone that wants what it delivers. I’m sorry unless you can show me in a video how you got it to work, I’m just not buying it, as I have spent hours trying. Thanks for the information and good luck with your riding and the head unit.

Havent used android auto yet (just ordered the cable) but was wondering if the motorola ma1(wireless android auto) is compatible with this unit?, or if there are any other options for wireless android auto?

Do we know if there will ever be an update to add more functionality to the hand controls? Like being able to select your map and navigate to a saved address, or switching stations on Pandora, etc...?
This is not possible with the current hardware
Ive been having nothing but issues. The first one i got ended getting water behind the screen and fried it. I got caught in light rain and washed my bike maybe twice (without a pressure washer of course) I sent it back and they sent me a new one. The season just started for me and a couple weeks ago and out of the blue, there is no sound coming out of the speakers. Everything else works though. I checked to make sure my amp was getting power and there were no loose wires. Have any ideas what else i could check?
The screen issue was a very rare defect on the initial shipment that has been fixed and corrected, if voltage drops below 10 volts while cranking it may damage the internal amplifier, we have not seen this be an issue but of course your radio is under warranty if it has failed. They will cut the sound off if cranking is under 10 volts to protect the amplifier and internal mcu
@@volunteeraudio gotcha. So I guess at this point I should contact Soundstream then. Everything should've been good considering I just put a brand new battery in my bike and I keep it on a tender. Is there a way to check if the internal amplifier is damaged?

I absolutely love mine! that being said, the unit is not without it's bugs, when using Carplay, no matter what maps app you use, it will constantly be in dark mode! there is no workaround, and I noticed my unit will not retain the accurate day in date, never loses time, or any other settings, just loses the day after a few days....

im looking at buying a stage kit with a soundstream radio package. lets say i were to get a stage 2, is there add ons packages i can get? like to upgrade from 2 to 4? and would i need to change the stage 2 amp to accomodate the stage 4 upgrade? i just want to know if i can slowly piece my radio setup together or if i should just wait and buy the big kit later.
Yes we use the hertz Hmp4d 600watt 4 channel amp in our stage packages, this amp can run up to 8 speakers and you can purchase any of the add ons from us later to build a stage 2 into a stage 4, 6, or 8
I purchased he soundstream radio, amp, front & rears speakers. I installed everything and they work fine. The only thing is my red light in my gauge cluster came on and the code says theres no communication with the radio. I assume I done something wrong. Could you point me in the right direction to correct this problem.

Jay. I noticed that on the screen of the unit you’re showing in this video something on the top left corner of the screen. Mine had a sticky patch of something in the same spot. Wondering if it’s okay to use something like rubbing alcohol to remove the stickiness? Thanks.
It's the pull tab for the protective film used for shipping. I remove them when installing for customers. I will admit I missed it on the first couple or so I installed, but now make it the last thing I do before handing over to a customer.
For sure pull off the protective screen, the glass under it will not be effected by rubbing alcohol but the plastic screen will

Due to ipx6 marine rating and much better visibility of the optically bonded display it is the best option for 2014-newer Harley’s, 1998-2013 we still use the Sony, sound is very comparable between the 2
what about making and receiving phone calls?
I have the sinister sounds setup with the moto720 and I got a lot of noise using the rca wires. When I switched to the high level it almost went away completely
Correct you should always run high level, this keeps the rcas from picking up noise from leds and such
I got the fairing speakers and amp from sinister, was it hard to install? Seems difficult
@@webechubbin not easy but definitely not hard to do. The hardest part is drilling the ports but they give you pieces to line em up.
I have a 2017 cvo street glide, will I need an extra device to use my volume control and other functions from the handle bars?
If you have a cvo and want to keep the factory boom amplifiers you need the HDHU14SI, both Soundstream radios require an additional module to retain thumb controls and we sell it as a bundle on our website.

I am having this installed on July 8, 2022. Am I understanding correctly that Android Auto only works when it is plugged into the USB and not when connected to Bluetooth?
Correct, both android auto and apple want you to have the music on your phone
Have you tested when it distorts? Like the gts that distorts 4 bars from the top while using usb connection.
mine was Level 48 with flat EQ. Measured with distortion detector.
Most are clean all the way up, tested with -5db 1khz tone, the latest updated actually lowered usb signal slightly to get full clean volume

Depends on where you purchase from. I know Jay sends his out updated or you can purchase a thumb drive with the current firmware flash on it and do it yourself. Jay has a couple of great videos on how to do it and it's not that hard and only takes about 2-3 minutes to do.

How do I download new displays. I Want to add some harley wallpaper to screen. I loaded wallpaper easy. But is there a way to have it on start up screen? Because other wise you really can't see it

I had bag lid speakers installed at a Rockford Fosgate Dealer. The right bag speaker plays intermittently and will cut out to no sound at 5 dots speaker volume and will come back on around the 7/8 and above volume level. It crackles and pops when not playing. Brand new speakers in a 2017 street glide (not a street glide special). Any ideas that could help me? All rockford speakers and amp (400W amp). Any ideas? Would installing this unit fix this problem? Thank you!
Sounds like a short in wiring or an internal amp issue, this radio will not fix these issues
@@volunteeraudio amp went bad, installed new rockford amp 400 and added the Soundstream radio, love it! What do you recommend for the EQ settings? 2 rockfords in front and two RF bag 6x9 speakers. I just want to avoid ruining anything! Great videos my man, God Bless

We recommend high level input when running sound digital amps or common ground dsps, with the 13 band eq you may want to ditch the dsp for the easy to use built in equalizer

We use earplugs with our Bluetooth comms so we can't hear our speakers so we do miss the ability to listen to music through our Bluetooth system with this system. With the speakers running, the VOX microphones pick that up then interfere woth bluetooth comms. Please continue to develop a solution.
It will require a future radio with additional hardware to add Bluetooth headsets, maybe we will have a solution one day

I couldn’t get lighted hand controls on the left side to work. I have 2021 Electra glide Standard. Anyone else have this issue? I decided to put the old controls back on and use the radio manually/fingers.
It must be for a 2021 or newer Harley, I do not believe the lighted controls are available or work yet

Does this make my Vance and Hines FP3 tuner, useless?
No, tuners can clash with other programmers or data modules, the latest software in the maestro radio module only connects to the ecm when viewing gauges or motorcycle info on the radio which keeps the radio from clashing with tuners, you can not connect your tuner and view gauges at the same time
does the touchscreen work with gloves?
Most gloves, if your gloves will operate your cell phone screen it will this radio also
I just ordered this radio. I'm running 3 sound digital amps. Could i use a 4-Channel RCA Stereo Ground Loop Isolator
I don’t like using ground loop isolators or sound digital amps, the best way to connect them is through high level, using a ground loop isolator may introduce higher floor noise

This version will not, a future model estimated 60 days out will retain the hd audio by Rockford but we also have an upgraded amp speaker package for you coming also

Date can sync with phone or radio station, there are settings to change this, is it changing the date or resetting to Jan 1?

@@volunteeraudio my motorcycle has a road glide front end on it. Double din setup. The only functions that I need is the regular radio functions. As long as I know what power and stuff like that is I canake it work. And do you need the handlebar controls to turn it on and off no matter what. It's hard to find a double din that's water resistant and that's what I'm looking for. If you don't think I canake it work do you have any recommendations. Thank you
The only downside to this radio is the color of the equalizer buttons (red), they are very difficult to see in daylight. Please, if possible do a software update to enable a color change to a brighter color, otherwise the radio is a 9.5 out of 10.
We set the eq with a microphone and rta before it’s being rode
It is not for anybody that has the 2019 touchscreen GT HARLEY RADIO you loose all of your sensors. IE: TIRE PRESSURE, OIL PRESSURE, AND HARLEY NAVIGATION.
I agree, you lose the Harley navigation but who needs it when you have all ways up to date google maps or Waze through Apple CarPlay or android auto, all of these sensors still work, the warning lights in the instrumentation still illuminate if oil pressure is low or temp is high, eitms still functions just as it does on a roadking that doesn’t have a radio, tpms still illuminated a light if a tire is low, you don’t lose these sensors, they just get notifications to you through warning lights
@@volunteeraudio agreed but when it comes to Harley Owners most are unexperienced and to them they don't get it. The main thing that makes this radio the BADDEST EVER is the wireless module. That 1000% sells this radio. I just did 10k miles with this radio rain storms, sand storms and extreme Sun exposure if I would of had to have my phone mounted on the handle bars or anywhere exposed it would have been a disaster, but the fact that I can literally leave my phone in my tourppak and still enjoy my music, wake etc and not have any interruptions was hands down the shitz. Harley has made a big mistake by not having these features available in the GTS RADIO.

WHAT ABOUT TIRE PRESURE ON THR GTS RADIO ??
You can still see your TPMS info by toggling the trip button on the left hand grip. It will show in the odometer.
You also have a “dummy” light that will illuminate if the tires get low
what about GPS navagation?
It uses the best navigation available, the always up to date navigation in your smart phone from apple or android
If i still need to connect my iphone to listen to music why would i want this radio? I can play sirius music thru my phone with my current Gt radio.18 SGS .I can play itunes thru it.Via bluetooth or usb.I can connect a flash drive with music.I have no issues with the stock radio,I use waze from my phone,Or Google maps that the voice plays thru the head set.Seems to me i would be wasting 800.00 bucks.Not saying its not a great product,But a little redundant if i still have to plug phone into it.
We have wireless adapters to use apple CarPlay and android auto wirelessly to add on for customers just like you

The hdhu14+ does not display gauges, are you referring to the HDHU14SI? If you bought it from Volunteer Audio give us a call at 1-844-30AUDIO and we can help you get it working
@Volunteer Audio - yes. It was the only one offered for my bike. I saw a few other people who changed the updated software version, and it appeared to solve the issue unless that doesn't make sense. It's just weird because the battery gauge works, but the others haven't yet. Haven't had a lot of time to mess with it as of yet.
For a radio designed for harley-davidson as a plug and play, one would think that you wouldn't need adapters in order to keep your thumb controls
No need to engineer a new module when scosche had been making one for 7 years that was proven to work and last
Sony xav 7000 let’s me have my phone plugged up and control apple car play with the music coming through my cardo
I know for a fact Sony does not send Bluetooth out, does not have dual Bluetooth, you must have your phone paired to your headset and be using the screen as a controller only

You guys are bias because you're a dealer you don't be completely truthful about everything my guy has so many problems with that radio it's best to keep the gts
Maybe it is the best radio but ANY speakers on a Harley suck compared to good IEM headphones so not everyone wants the audio through the speakers. Loud pipes and wind destroy audio quality at interstate speeds and high radio volume to overcome road noise kills your hearing. Best to use headphones on long trips for better audio, reduced road noise, and less hearing damage. Truth.
But so many people love loud music, everything we do for fun harms us in some way
Sounds like this radio doesn't work with any Harley Davidson.
It fits 2014 and newer without factory amplifiers
@Volunteer Audio I have a rockford fosgate amp running 2 fairing and two saddle bag speakers on a 2017 Road Glide. Harley Stage one they called it. That sounds like what you said. A lot of problems, and things to consider or change, before the new installation.

You spoke about unwanted noise, polarity, etc... actually made it sound like it was going to be more trouble than it's worth.
