Tested the radio again today to see if the touch screen functions work when wearing gloves, it passed the test and worked very well with gloves
Finally a REAL review on this unit. You answered all of alot of people's questions. Thanks!
Thanks for watching
Tennessee is a long ways to drive to get a radio installed in my motorcycle. I love watching your videos and I really enjoy watching the great work you guys do.
Thank you for watching!
I’m getting one next this next week, Thursday, with the Sinister Sound system. Very excited!
Looks like an awesome HD Stereo system. Thanks for taking the time to make this content & God Bless ya!
I have the 4.3 system and the sound sucks. Will this be an improvement without an additional amp. Thanks
@@rickstern6674 yes I bought the soundstream and added my amp and its great sounding!
The fact that I just ordered mine makes this video even more exciting to watch. I know you put a lot of time and effort into your videos. I hope more people start to pay attention to Volunteer Audio. I have never had the pleasure of being there in person yet. My daughter is going to grad school in Knoxville at LMU. So I am down that way several times a year. I hope to make it a point to get down to Oliver Springs and check it out in person. I ordered the radio that’s step 1. I hope to get the speakers next and then the amp. Before I started watching Tall and learning about Volunteer Audio I bought HogTunes speakers and amp. I have had nothing but trouble with my rear speakers since installing it. Anyway I hope to put all those troubles behind me with Volunteer Audio as my go to in the future. Lee up the good work and I pray for nothing but success and growth in the future. God bless
Thank you so much! I look forward to meeting you! God Bless!
New subscriber here, that radio looks incredible, it is now on my shopping list
Just ordered this from you guys. Looking forward to seeing how it compares to the Sony 7000 I’m replacing due to screen washout in the sun and water resistance.
Very good video. One factory option that seems to be missing is Automatic Volume Control. Folks say you can't use AVC with amps but if it is truly just Automatic VOLUME Control you can use it just fine. I have a pre-Rushmore HK head unit that I had Iron Cross Audio install preamp outputs on and AVC works beautifully with my multi amp DSP fed system. I have really come to appreciate that functionality. I realize the GT and GTS radios have more of an Automatic Gain function with their speed control volume and it does tend to blow stuff up. I wonder if AVC could be added somehow? The Biketronics BT1014X thumb control adapter for Rushmore bikes has AVC but it uses a standard SWC plug I think so it probably wouldn't work with this radio. It just seems a shame that every time an aftermarket company comes out with a replacement radio for Harleys they leave out a lot of the functions we expect when we buy the bike like CB/Intercom/AVC/Weatherband/Headset support etc.
I am very glad it does not have auto volume / speed volume, to many variables to control and yes way too many people will blow speakers if it was in the radio.
The 18 came with the Gt. The 19 and up had the GTS
Great review!
Looks to be a great product! Great video
Thank you Tom
I Love the fit & finish & settings but I might get the Sony 7000 because of the pre amp power
Preamp is 4 volt on the Soundstream radio, 5volt on the Sony, not enough difference to matter, gain will be set slightly different location on your amp but output will be the same. I prefer high level in on motorcycle installs which I can do with the Soundstream which guarantees no engine noise and more than 5 bolts of input signal
Just ordered one from your company after being on the fence about it for a while. Hope I made the right decision. 🙂
Thank you
@@volunteeraudio No. Thank you for your outstanding reviews and persuasion.
I went from the Sony XAV-AX7000 to the Pioneer DMH-WT8600NEX and just sold the Pioneer to by This head unit. That Pioneer was the s**t. Besides the screen size and a few other functions the Pioneer had that the Reserve don't I hope I almost as equally happy with my choice.
Great Video! #SoundstreamReserve
Thank you!
I was dying laughing at how you said the GT radio will get you lost. The day I bought my bike I was so excited to try it until it got me lost and I realized how awful it was along with giving directions synced with the music.
I'm just seeing you videos. my question would be; I new to the harley scene, I'm upgrading my audio system for parking lot pimping and maybe sounds competition. where would this radio stand using euphoria, beyma, cicada. or prv speakers? also, I like the information syst6of the GTS for low tire pressure, oil, or if theres a problem.
Looking to upgrade from my 4.3 , great review , I was really thinking the GTS was the only way to go , this video really put aside some of my concerns , especially water resistance and brightness, it has me reconsidering this unit. The one question I have is , I currently run 95% of my music off a USB flash drive , can I bluetooth my phone for Google maps / Waze or do I need to connect it via USB for GPS to function ?
This radio has wired CarPlay android auto like a gts radio, it has to be connected to the phone through usb to display maps
I bought my 21 Road Glide and it also came with the 4.3. As you, I was thinking of the Boom Box upgrade until I came across the Sound Stream HD 14. I'm putting my order in today!

Same here, glad I could not find a GTS because I ordered the Sound Stream yesterday. Will be installing it with Diamond Audio Micro4v2 amp and Diamond audio speakers. I rented the SMD DD1 distortion tool as well so I can dial in my amp.
@@volunteeraudio when plugged into the usb for android auto, does the usb supply enough voltage to keep the phone charged?
Great review. I have a 17 FLTRU with Fosgate amp and speakers. Will I have to make any amp adjusents after install of this unit? As you know itsa PITA to make any amp adjustments after installed.
If you leave the loud function off the gains should be very close, but anytime you change a head unit or radio it is best to readjust your gains using a distortion detector. You will also have much more adjustability with the graphic eq in this radio to tweak the sound more to your liking.
im getting me one
Will this head unit work with the new Rockford fosgate system that they came out with like turning the amp on and off I guess
Thanks for the video, I just placed my order from your website. I’m assuming I can control Waze app through the touch screen when my iPhone is connected. I haven’t used apple car play. I’m upgrading my stock HD GT radio. I always use my iPhone apps for gps.
Correct Waze can be controlled through the touch screen of the radio too
Will the connection work wirh 2013 and below Road Glide Custom if u upgrade the fairing or do a double din conversion kit? Would I be able to maintain thumb controls?
How about putting jumpers on the back an extra wire or so for handle bar controls vs an external device so it becomes truly plug and play as well as leave door open for upgrades to read ECM for Oil Pressure, Oil Temp, head temp, engine temp, air temp, ect? Also 7” or 9” versions.
The data portion will be included in a future model to read gauges and Tpms data, if you build the data module into the radio it is harder to do future updates
It is truly plug n play, no
Programming required, plug it in and it works
@@volunteeraudio gotcha
I have the Sony AX5000 and love the sound with my sinister sound speakers, however the screen sucks when the sun is out. That’s what I’m missing from my factory unit. How does this screen compare? Especially in the sun.
The screen is brighter than the factory GTS radio slightly and can be used in direct sunlight unlike your 5000
Thanks for the review. While the phone us plugged into the USB, is the phone also charging?
Yes
Does the USB Cable have to be connected to utilize Android Auto?
When using the handlebar controls is the volume control still on the left side? Or is the a setting to rearrange the handlebar controls.
It works on either side
bonjour Jay et merci pour toutes videos , pensez vous que HDHU14 est compatible pour le marché EUROPE ? frequence AM FM ? MERCI
Yes when you select the region the fm bands swap to European frequencies, it works best with a factory mast antenna, hidden antennas do not work well. Thank you for watching!
I order. Soundstream HDHU14 with thumb control 2 day ago from you guy , and I order Rockford fosgate stage 3 , any suggest how to set up the amp and how set up EQ ? Thank you
ua-cam.com/video/rchoreyndTE/v-deo.html
Here is how we would set the amp, once we have a stage 3 Rockford through the shop with this radio I will document the settings, I would start eq flat and listen, eq varies because everyone is different, that is why is is easily adjustable on screen, I wouldn’t turn the bass up mainly adjust the middle and treble to your likening
I have a Cardo Packtalk set with JBL speakers in my helmet. Can you listen to music from carplay apps through the headset (iso harley speakers)?
No this radio does not support whim module and does not send music via Bluetooth to your helmet
Hey Jay you said the future model will include oil pressure EITMS info. Will this be available through a software upgrade to the first version or is Soundstream going to stick it to us and have to buy the next iteration?
The next model will use an idatalink rr module to retain boom amps and display vehicle info on screen, this will not be a software update but a different model at a higher price point. Exact shipping date of the next model is unknown. But there is a software update coming that does add some needed features that should be available next week, we will launch a video about the update and how to install the software as soon as it is available
and another question... I've never used Apple Car play, but that would be the main reason for me to switch so I can use Waze... now, I'm a user of XM radio, which is not supported by this unit... I agree I can use XM via my iPhone, but my question is, can we run more than one App simutanesly via Apple car play? In my case, XM radio and Waze? thanks!
Yes you can listen to SiriusXM while using a navigation app
I have a 2020 RGS and don't have the whim installed and get AA just fine. Also, it depends on which flash you go with whether you have fade or not enabled. I think the RF flash retains fade. But I never use fade. If you set up your tune properly, you really shouldn't need to use fade, right?
Correct we set the amps so that the rear is slightly louder so it sounds even while riding, the Rockford flash adds too much bass and varies with speed so we do not use it
Great review ! I Currently have the Boom II amps in fairing and saddlebag. From your video I take that you cannot use the HD amps and Boom II speakers ?
Correct, we offer upgrade kits that are much better than boom stage 2 or you can wait and later this year we will have another version of this same radio that will maintain the boom amplifiers
ua-cam.com/video/Ml3pmZo17sE/v-deo.html
One more question. Can the Soundstream support 4 Hertz speakers w/o amp ? Fairing & saddlebag.
@Marc Houle assuming you are using the hertz neo speakers for sure they will play and are efficient enough to be loud but for sure would be louder with an amp, we sell the boom amp bypass harnessing if you decide to do this and we can build a package with the neo speakers
@@volunteeraudio What does the boom amp bypass harnessing do ?
This works with stock 2018 streetglide amps? Do I need to buy anything else to use the volume and seek buttons on my bars?
This will not work with boom audio amps
I have a 2011 streetglide swapping inner fairing with a mutazu double din inner fairing. Will this radio work with that? If not what do u recommend
Sony xav-ax7000 is still the best option for the Metra inner fairing swap, the Soundstream radio is 4.5” x 8” face and your opening in the 95-hdif is 4” x 7”
Yah I had the boom 2 in my bike and they didn’t tell me about the amp compatibility. Was not happy at all
Who did not tell you?
You said it won’t work with the Harley CB. Will it work with the intercom? (Listening to music, communicating with passenger, and even taking calls with the Harley headset). Also, will 2 Bluetooth headsets pair with this radio?
Bluetooth headsets will not pair to the radio, so no intercom
Will the radio display engine data such as oil pressure with EMTS status and will it permit activation/deactivation of the ETMS?
It does not display engine data such as oil pressure, but you do have gauges with warning lights for these items, also EITMS still functions and can be activated using the throttle control just as you would on a roadking or other Harley without a stock radio
Does it have engine diagnostics, ambient temp, speedometer, tachometer and odometer displays? My Harley radio does. Those things are what I want to look at when I'm riding.
Then buy version 2 when it comes out because it will have this option at a higher price point, the current radio will not show engine data, all of these things can be done or seen without the radio through the stock instrument cluster
Would you recommend this unit as a replacement upgrade to the Sony 7000 and if so why? Also will this fit in a metra 95-hdif inner fairing?
This only fits 2014-newer Harley, it will not fit in a 95-hdif fairing. I would recommend as a Sony replacement if you need better water resistance, the display seems brighter as well
@@volunteeraudio you can use this if you change out the inner fairing to 14 and newer right?
@@christopherdavis5364 I’m not positive that you can, still testing to see if Ignition/keyed turn on can be done without can signal from the computer, I think it can be done
With this head unit installed. Can I add the Rockford lid speaker kit directly to the unit via rca? Or is an Amp still needed?
Rca is not amplified, the radio does activate the rear speaker wires off radio power but there are much better lid speakers options
volunteeraudio.com/product/infinity-kappaperfect900x
This is absolutely awesome, question is, do I loose the ability to utilize engine information and travel data?
You will not have any engine data displayed on the radio but remember you still have warning lights in the gauges for oil pressure and such. Travel data is also on your phone through google maps or Apple Maps
@@volunteeraudio thanks a bunch brother, I do like what I see and hear my friend, one million percent upgrade from HD thats for sure, thank you
@@breezetelemaster1368 thank you for watching!
Nope you want be able to get engine info with this radio They may have it a feature later but when I asked it didn’t come with that. Only HD radios has that feature for now
Last year I added the Harley branded Fosgate speakers and amp. Will the Soundstream head unit work with the Fosgate speakers and amp?
Yes it will
I’m not very mechanical inclined. If I come over and purchase this unit how much will you charge to install it? Also do you have speaker upgrades from the stock speakers ?
We charge $100 install on a radio
Do you know if this radio fits on a Metra 95-HDIF. This is a aftermarket replacement inner fairing for 95-13 Street glides. It’s meant to accept a double din radio, specify a Sony radio like a XAV-AX5000.
No it will not, double din is 4” x 7”, the 14-up radio is 5” x 8”
Will the Harley wired headsets that are used with the Ultra's and Limiteds still be functional after installing this radio?
They will not
If I have a DSR1 already in my Rockford stage 3 kit do I still need it with this radio?
You will not need the dsr1 with this radio
could you please show how to connect soundstream reserve hdhu 14 to the soundz amplifier i have a 2015 roadglide special, i order the soiundstream i will be installing it myself, but i need to know how to connect to the soundz amplifier thanks
Doing one Saturday
What is a good amp for the replacement for the boom audio. I was also told that fosgate doesn’t work for the head unit
Factory installed data turn on amps don’t work, we offer several boom 2 packages @ www.volunteeraudio.com that includes amps, we install one amp in the fairing to replace all stock boom amps with 1, hertz 600 watt or precision power 800 watt
Can this be made to work on a bike without the factory harley radio? I have a softail and am currently using my phone to a bluetooth module to the amp. I will be putting a fairing on in the future and would rather not keep the phone and bluetooth setup.
It would be difficult but anything can be done
will it show the oil pressure on a 14-16 streetgilde like the stock unit when you press source?
No it will not, your oil pressure light still works in the speedo cluster if it gets low
Will the new version coming later to support my oem CVP amps be an all new headunit, or could it be a firemeware update I could drop in this unit via a usb key ? thanks
It is an entire new head unit
@@volunteeraudio ok, then will wait, I'm not ready to change those amps for now. Will stay tuned, hope it comes out soon! any chance it would also have built in xm? I understand I can run it via AppCarplay, but that uses my phone bandwith... in Canada, we don't have unlimitted monthly data usage! :-(
@@MrScaracs yes it will have SiriusXM also
I've got an ax100 that cuts out sound at higher volumes, externally amped and o-scoped--- Have you by chance heard of that issue? Hoping this radio is nicer sound wise.
Your radio, or amp may be failing, also monitor voltage on each while cutting out. The ax100 is older and could have water damage
Is this better then the Sony 7000? I’m wanting to do the double din inner faring on my 07 SG but don’t know what head unit to go with.. I have the moto 720 amp, sinister sound 6.5” speaker pods and power precision 6x9 lid speakers. Another question. Will the double din inner faring upgrade for my 07 still be compatible with my sinister speaker pods?
You can not fit this radio in the Metra fairing, it only works with 2014-newer motorcycles
I have a question, in my 2017 Street Glide CVO, if I push the button on the right of the handlebar, on the original screen I see the outside temperature, is this function also available in this new radio?
The hdhu14+ does not display any motorcycle info including air temp, the hdhu14si does display motorcycle info including external air temp
Just ordered this today since your price came down. I’ve seen some reviews say they had problems with their backlit lighted switches after installing. Which doesn’t make a lot of sense, but I did install lighted hand control switches on my 14 Limited. Is this a thing I need to worry about?
Nothing related to the radio, it has been great and has a 2 year warranty if you have a problem. Thank you for ordering!
Ok thank, for my harley street glide 2017 cvo, i can installing the:hdhu14si?
Yes with a maestro module it will retain the stock amps
Does this unit have navigation without having to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto?
It does not

Late summer, fall eta
I currently have boom audio stage 1 with 2 amps. 1 in fairing and 1 in saddlebag. Also have the siriusxm module in the fairing. Would this be something that I could keep? 2 Amps and siriusxm. Also how hard is the install? Thanks.

A future model is coming that will retain the boom amps and has standalone siriusxm
@@volunteeraudio ok, thank you

No and no
I use my cb for intercom and more. I am looking to upgrade. Can I still use my helmet connector

Will this plug straight up to the Rockford Fosgate HD14RGSG-STAGE3 ?
If the Rockford amp uses a 12volt turn on yes it will, if it came from your Harley dealer and is the new 2021 Rockford by Harley system they use a data turn on for the amplifier and will not work
So I have boom 2 are you saying this won’t work with the current amplifiers in the bike?
Correct
I have the GT radio with the Rockford Fosgate Stage 3 setup. Will this work as a plug and play with the amp and speakers? If so, I'm ordering!!!
Yes this radio will work with Rockford stage 2 or 3 kits, we always suggest setting the gains of your Rockford amplifier with a distortion detector after replacing the radio to get the most output out of your amp without blowing your speakers
@@volunteeraudio Awesome thanks for the info. So I would need to take the bike to a stereo shop after I install this radio or to someone that has a distortion detector to set the amp up correctly? Is it a fairly easy process? Thanks in advance.

2015 RGS. Wanting to upgrade from factory Boom 6.5 GT with factory speakers. Will the new model coming out in March display oil psi, weather temp and EITMS with the info switch?? And will factory speakers work, or should I upgrade them as well??
The new model will likely be later than March, it will have vehicle info displayed but till it’s released we won’t know all the details, EITMS still works with this radio but is not displayed and your instrument cluster still has lights for low oil pressure and such. I’ve seen that you lose the check engine light after installing this aftermarket radio?
Not true, you can no longer check the codes through the radio but it still can be checked through the odometer using your trip buttons or through the diagnostic port using a computer
Ok , quick question…
If a DSP is connected to ur factory head unit to flat n out ur signal , compared to this new sound stream , is the factory radio clearer after that process or is the sound stream clearer straight out of the box? I hope I phrased that correctly… I think I did
Most of the time the dsp is used to fix a bad factory eq, most people do not just flatten the eq, they adjust it to a listening preference, we call it a house curve. With that being said we can also create a house curve by adjusting the 10 band inside the radio. I can make it sound better with a great dsp but most people buy cheap low end dsps. There are a lot of variables, for sure this radio has strong rca outputs and a good eq so we can get a great end result
@@volunteeraudio ok … nvs audio outta New Jersey shared this link for u guys . Great video btw but, that’s what’s got my curiosity up cause that factory still is hard to beat for all elements imo. Not that I didn’t run a Sony for years in my 09 fltr but still… is the RF DSP what you’d use to achieve your goal of being “just as good if not better” or as good sound …?
@@neano62 I normally use products from audison or hertz, the have the best quality dsp’s, I do not like the DSR1, it lowers the rca voltage to 2 volts max and tends to introduce noise to the system

How you doing I have a 2014 CVO Limited. I come to Tennessee often from Pittsburgh. I’ll be there in May I’m looking for the new version I want everything to work I don’t want to change my amp I will upgrade the radio if you want to do the work and you have the new stuff. Let’s schedule something are usually stay in Sevierville Maryville something. I’m sure you can do the job pretty quick if we can set something up that would be good since you are a factory dealer right? Yeah I’m seeing a lot of stuff and they’re coming out with another radio that’s more compatible. Hit me up at some work for you if you want it. Should be easy I’ve done these radios but I want everything to work I can come over for the day or have it there the day before and spend the night somewhere around there. Thanks
Contact me closer to may @ 1-844-30AUDIO , radio could ship by then, but no firm eta is set
