No one (being a society with tunnel vision)
commented on how excellent the son handled
the situation. Knew laws were being broken by
      'authority" yet remained calmed, de-esculated,
and recorded the whole situation. We would not
have had a clear record otherwise, nor would the
      mayor have apologized.

Just last year the 11th Circuit denied qualified immunity in a similar case of an Alabama police office demanding ID. The protection from arrest in one's home didn't apply in that case, but the court held “that the plain text of the Alabama statute is so clear that no reasonable officer could have believed they could arrest Mr. Edger for failing to produce his ‘ID’ or ‘driver’s license.’”

@@cesiba1it’s already happened and has been ruled on by state supreme courts and the us suprme court. On one example, a man shot and k*lled the officer trying to falsely arrest him in 2014 (but there are others), the court ruled in favor of the man’s right to defend himself against false arrest.
“…In Duncan v. State, a man named Matthew Duncan shot and killed Alaska State Trooper Sergeant Patrick "Scott" Johnson during a confrontation in Tanana, Alaska, in 2014. Duncan argued that he acted in self-defense because he believed Johnson was attempting to falsely arrest him and that he feared for his life.
The case garnered significant attention because it raised questions about the extent of a person's right to defend themselves against unlawful arrests by law enforcement officers. The Alaska Supreme Court ultimately ruled in Duncan's favor, stating that individuals have the right to use deadly force to defend themselves against an unlawful arrest, provided that the arrest involves the use or imminent use of unlawful force by the officer.
The court's decision emphasized the importance of protecting individual liberties and ensuring that citizens are not subject to arbitrary or abusive actions by law enforcement. However, it's important to note that the ruling does not give individuals carte blanche to resist arrest in all circumstances; rather, it establishes parameters for self-defense in situations where the arrest is deemed unlawful and involves the threat of unlawful force by the officer…”

The ignorant cop cited a statute that clearly states if an officer has reasonable suspicion a crime is afoot, he can stop and demand ID of any person IN PUBLIC. He had no reasonable suspicion and she was not in public.

The son of the woman had more common sense and deescalation techniques than the police officer. That's ridiculous, and it shows that US law enforcement is not trained properly.

$100 Billion annually spent on law enforcement and they always seem to need more more more more. 🤡

It's not about training. This is a racist nation. I'm so sick of people pretending that it isn't. Law enforcement is riddled with these people.

@@billcarson9320 there's unfortunately nowhere that tracks taxpayer dollars spent on settlements from poor law enforcement, but with stories of hundreds of millions at a time, flooding different platforms from multiple cities at a time, it's probably at least a billion a year in settlements as well. Ironic that 90% of police encounters, literally leaves you feeling less safe with them around, than not.
