This is why those of us who grew up in the 80s as kids and our teenagers really miss this amazing decade of the 80s It was such a spectacular and prosperous time along with a ton of positivity great music, movies, television, shows cartoons, etc. The cultural aspect of it was just amazing, and there will never be another like it
Aileen - I think you would LOVE "Woman in Chains" w/ the incomperable Oletta Adams. Very powerful song with a poignant message. "Sowing the Seeds of Love" is also another great one which will give you Beetlesque vibes.
For my money, this is one of the greatest songs in my lifetime. A perfect confluence of sounds. The idea of shout therapy. The frustration. The most catchy hook of outrage. Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith going vocally crazy and the drums. It is perfectly constructed. I had this tape and played it into the ground.
Spot On Man, one of the top 5 albums, easily, made in the 80s. They were a breath of fresh air and an antidote to mid 80s hair band silliness (Poison, etc.).

There is nothing overdone with either the song or the music video. It is just perfect. The vocals are as you say a perfect blend. It is like you are just joining a party or entertaining guests at your house, The song just makes me remember why I love music. It is a part of us and one of very small things in our current life that we can appreciate and enjoy. Modern music to me is lightspeed years behind this kind of music. This my favourite song of theirs. Back in the day I saw them in a small venue in Brighton. Part way through the song. they stopped playing and the whole crowd, me included, sang the lyrics together with them. Awesome stuff.

My family would take long road trips from Southern CA to Sturgis, South Dakota and I'd lay in the back seat with my walkman and listen to music the entire drive. Anyway, love your videos.
I have such a soft spot for Tears. Their music hits he right in heart. I was just sitting here watching her reaction tearing up wondering how did we go from this to our sad situation as a society/country? 😢

Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal are very talented songwriters who grew up listening to progressive rock gods, deeply influenced by them and managed to create their own rich, signature sound at the time. Besides their hit songs, they have written so many beautiful pop-rock songs through the years. For your own listening enjoyment, you might want to check out their latest effort, The Tipping Point, from 2022. It is a beautifully produced, sophisticated pop-rock album from start to end. One of the great classics from the 80's.. Tears for Fears were (are!) one of those bands that helped define the 80's alongside the likes of Talk Talk, Gary Numan, Human League, Depeche Mode, Propaganda, Belouis Some, Reflex.. so many bands.
Aileen, as you go along in your Tears For Fears (TFF) journey, you will find that they are big fans of The Beatles. They pay tribute to the Fab Four at various times in their songs/catalog. In this song, they do a backwards glance to The Beatles "Hey Jude" video, when all the audience joins the band "on stage", so to speak, for the ending sing-along, grand finale outtro, you know what I mean? TFF is doing a big, group-vocal outtro and they brought in many fans for that part of the song, just as The Beatles did. You should check out their song called "Sowing the Seeds of Love" to see what I mean.

This song is a reminder of my late teenage years and I remember those days so fondly. Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal are very talented songwriters who grew up listening to progressive rock gods, deeply influenced by them and managed to create their own rich, signature sound at the time. Besides their hit songs, they have written so many beautiful pop-rock songs through the years. For your own listening enjoyment, you might want to check out their latest effort, The Tipping Point, from 2022. It is a beautifully produced, sophisticated pop-rock album from start to end. By the way, that wonderful backing vocal belongs to Scottish singer/songwriter Sandy McLelland. Cheers!

Aileen, I grew up in Orange County CA and grew up listening to KROQ. The station introduced us to Tears For Fears, Oingo Boingo, Split Enz, Love and Rockets, Duran Duran, and Dramarama to name a few. I was gifted.

One of the great classics from the 80's.. Tears for Fears were (are!) one of those bands that helped define the 80's alongside the likes of Talk Talk, Gary Numan, Human League, Depeche Mode, Propaganda, Belouis Some, Reflex.. so many bands.

Aileen, as you go along in your Tears For Fears (TFF) journey, you will find that they are big fans of The Beatles. They pay tribute to the Fab Four at various times in their songs/catalog. In this song, they do a backwards glance to The Beatles "Hey Jude" video, when all the audience joins the band "on stage", so to speak, for the ending sing-along, grand finale outtro, you know what I mean? TFF is doing a big, group-vocal outtro and they brought in many fans for that part of the song, just as The Beatles did. You should check out their song called "Sowing the Seeds of Love" to see what I mean.
