    "Woman in Chains" is a very powerful song. They sing it with Oleta Adams, a singer that Tears for Fears discovered while she was singing in a bar in a Kansas City hotel.

      @@Show_time3 The singer admitted he knew he would have to fool people into thinking it was about a girl - but the whole album "Songs From The Big Chair", is about therapy, as he had a bad childhood. The "Big Chair" is the therapists chair. Its an amazing album.

    I still remember the ride home my mom gave me from K-Mart when I was 14 to buy this album. It was actually the first cassette I bought with my own money. I STILL listen to this album at 53 years old. And, by the way, their newest album, "The Tipping Point" is amazing!!!

      Same age as me lol. My first cassette was Duran Duran's A View To A Kill. It was a split cassette with the Goonies Soundtrack. Those Songs at that time were unsurpassed. It has Soul!!!

    I'd recommend their first major hit - 'Mad World' a much younger Curt and Roland with great haircuts and dance routines - covered in Donnie Darko.

    I’m an old fkr. I was in college from 1980 to 1987, the best concert period of all time. My dad owned a couple Pants West stores (Levi Strauss) who sponsored the major bands and we had tickets (including back stage passes) to all the concerts. I didn’t realize how cool that was at the time

    Simple Minds-Don't You(Forger About Me). To me that is THE song that represents the 80s. Some Prince would be great too. Start with Purple Rain.

    I remember 1985 vividly and I will be 60 next year, but this song never gets old. The summer of 1985 was one of the most fun of my life and this song brings it all back!!!

    I was living in San Diego in 1984/1985 and the radio DJ had talked up the album “Songs from the Big Chair”, saying that it was the most “emotionally satisfying album ever” and I got it on CD and loved every track on it, including this one.

      Definitely one of them "deep cuts", I guess it's called? Though it was on their Greatest Hits from the late 80s or early 90s... unless it was one of the new tracks for the album, then that would explain why it didn't get the praise it deserved. Definitely a good one, in any case.

      @@BlackieNuff Yeah, it was an original track that was placed on the Greatest Hits album. It did get some airplay on my local Alternative radio station, which is how I heard it in the first place. But it's been kind of forgotten since then.

    Shout, Everybody Wants to Rule The World and Head Over Heels all come from the "Songs From The Big Chair" album so you can see what a huge hit it was for them. I think they released "Mother's Talk" as a single also. Have a great rest of your day Aileen!

      @@grassrootsflshp to be fair, one of the best things about Slayer is, like Henry Rollins once said, they're cryogenically frozen between albums. So every few years they thaw them out, they're like "Come on! It's still 1985!" and they crank out another killer album without changing a damn thing... the 80s lives on through Slayer. (Well, until recently, I guess)

    This is my favorite Tears For Fears song. Followed by Mad World, which was covered by Gary Jules in 2001, and Post-Modern Jukebox in 2015.
    I recommend all of three versions of Mad World.

    I have Donnie Darko to thank for introducing me to this song, The Killing Moon (Echo & The Bunnymen), Notorious (Duran Duran), Love Will Tear Us Apart (Joy Division) and Never Tear Us Apart (INXS). One of the best soundtracks ever! Of those I'd especially recommend Notorious for someone who appreciates great bass!

    The early 80's saw a conveyor belt of great, mostly synth rock bands coming out of the UK.
    Tears for Fears were just one of them.

    Their song Shout was super popular back in the day. I liked Tears for Fears well enough as a kid in the 80s but I think I’ve grown to appreciate them more as an adult. I really love this song and the video feels somewhat modern to me. Like it could’ve been done by an indie hipster band in the 2010s.

    I just love how much you got into this. Seeing your joy at the music, the beat, the video. I grew up in the eighties and wasn't a fan of Tears for fears. But as I've aged, i get it more and understand it better and appreciate just how good they where.
    I would suggest Woman in chains! That is a beautiful song.
