War brings only pain, depression and death. Soldiers protect us every day. We must thank them every chance we get. Let thank our Veterans for their sacrifice for our safety. We owe that to them. Thanks!
Video's movie is '71 "Johnny Got His Gun" about an American soldier in World War 1 to raise folks' awareness for all veterans' physical, mental, & emotional needs/care.
The movie background seems to suggest an artillery shell, I haven't studied the lyrics, but listened to this track at least 100x - I don't think they say a mine do they?
@@Nick_Sandman It's a mine in the '39 book by same name, an artillery shell in the movie, & a mine in the song: "a land-mine has taken my...", so James Hetfield read the book.✔️
@@Nick_SandmanYes, toward the end of the song, The lyrics are: “Landmine has taken my sight. Taken my speech. Taken my hearing. Taken my arms. Taken my legs. Taken my soul. Left me with life in hell…” 🎵 🎶
The movie (and the song) is about a soldier fighting in WW1. He returns home totally mutilated. He lost all of his limbs, speech, sight and hearing. And the only thing he wants is to die.
I personally love longer metal songs like this. I'm big into instrumentation, and a stories/songs that carry deep meaning and contemplation. It's basically a modern day version of orchestral music.
Irina is 🤘 *ONE* 🤘 of the coolest and most down to earth hot chicks out there. Metallica and a lot of other metal bands make their songs long for a number of reasons: 1) it makes the song more epic and dramatic 2) its gives you more time to add a lot of detail and creativity And 3) simply because more is better lol
FUN FACT !!!! When Metallica was in Moscow 1991 playing in the "Monster of Rock Tour" The Russians officials AND the band's management suggested to the band not to play this song in their line up (because of the bomb and gun fire). The band refused and decided to play the song at the last minute. Moscow officials were a little upset and threaten to stop the concert for the 4th time.. Please see the documentary of that tour. 1st time that actual Rock was in Russia because it was not allowed under the USSR. ********Monster of Rock 1991 Moscow Documentary******
Excellent choice. the video is good, but I had the luck to hear the song live (went to Metallica's shows 5 times between 1985 and august 2023). Don't miss them, if they play close to where you live: good music, fun, plenty of jokes between songs & they want the crowd to participate, so learn lyrics before the show. I had fun evry time, even if the crowds are a bit crazy. No one goes there to pick a fight, even if it's chaotic. Long songs ?--always with Metallica, and live, they're even longer (more instrumentation, lots of solos, and they expect the crowd to sing, so it takes longer, but that's where the fun begins. Have a nice day.
Yes, the movie and book this song features / is based on are very creepy. It follows the story of an average guy named Joe who gets most of his body blown apart in a World War. He's conscious but really doesn't know what's going on around him until he is able to communicate with the nurse you see in the video. And yes, the scene does show him being carted around like a circus attraction - an idea Joe came up with himself in the story
The answer is easy, in the 70s, 80, 90, the lyrics of songs were as important as the rythms and beats, most singers took months to create lyrics that made sense, just like poems ... nowadays for singers lyrics mean jack full of nonsense words, even some of them created with AI and the rythm with a computer program is done in one afternoon, no real instruments at all, the same happened with people that listen to music nowadays give s.. to lyrics
You wouldn't want them to take off the mask. There's nothing there but meat. He doesn't have a face anymore. The nurse has to take the mask off, clean what once was a man's head, then sew the mask back on every day. Day in and day out
One of the best anti-war songs because it shows the true horrors of war. Being a shell of oneself with only your mind to keep you company while suffering from severe pain. Meanwhile, your government had its use for you and tosses you away like a piece of trash when you have served your purpose to it.
what is democracy, that is so correct in the world we live in, i would love your reaction on Simon and Garfunkel song by disturbed, you will be very surprised.
"a man would give his begotten son." is from: "For God so loved the whole world, that He gave His begotten Son so that the whole world will be saved." Jesus is God's only* Son (*"begotten") in John 3:16 in King James' (Old*English) Holy Bible: first printed in 1611 = PROTESTant Christianity.
I sure hate seeing Ukraine and Russian men dying by the thousands.....and for what? ..... End the war and vote Trump 2024........sneak in ,get a license and a bunch of free stuff and you can vote too
gawd this song put me to sleep, as do all Metallica songs....(Highlight was Jason Robard's talking) ....The FATHER of all Heavy Metal music was ALICE COOPER, 10 times better than this group, but you never do him..... "I'm Eighteen". .... "No More Mr. Nice Guy"....... "Elected"........"School's Out" All highly energetic songs, with mounting crescendo's.....That tell meaningful, funny stories.

Thank you.
It is not possible to listen to this song without headbanging.

In the movie it was an artillery shell, in the novel (which is what the song is based on) it was a landmine
I have been listening to this masterpiece for years and have never gotten tired of it. Metallica is undoubtedly a legendary band.
I am 49 years old. Every Russian I have ever met in the USA since the age of 15 loves Metallica.
Irina, the movie is "Johnny Got His Gun 1971." You can view the full movie here on UA-cam.
Yes. It's a good movie. Metallica bought the rights to this movie so they could use it on this music video!
@@1972myc Thanks, didn't know that
We pull over , and listen to the end❤

Montanna looked like he was headbanging in front of the camera!😂🤘
Whenever I see this video it reminds me of staying up late watching Headbangers Ball with Riki Rachtman.

Recommend Type O Negative. Start with Love You To Death and Wolf Moon.
Watch metallica "Enter Sandman" from moscow 1991. You will be shocked by the crowd size. They stopped counting at 1.7 million.
I thought she did, already.

Excellent choice in music. Unfortunately, this will always be relevant in our world.
You have to prevent yourself from watching the movie and listen to the song

Thanks for the recommendation.
