Probably the best song ever that's so repetitive it still doesn't bother you but actually gets better as the song goes. Killer little guitar solo at the end.
I was a metal head as a teen back in the 80s, so I wasn't much into 80s pop in general. But for some reason I always loved Tears for Fears. They where different in a good way. They are more of a "bridge" between 60's British pop like The Beatles and the late 70s British mod-influenced punk like The Jam, and what later would become Britpop.
Same here. I lived in England from 1980-1985 (military brat) and found a lot of the synch-heavy bands like Tears for Fears, Depeche Mode, etc. had some beats and heavy chord progressions that worked well for metalheads.
@@kingbrutusxxvi True. Depeche Mode was another band that I really liked, even though as a metal head, you "weren't supposed" to like them. :D Killing Joke would be another example.
Same for me. I'm from Chile and in the 80s I was a teenager listening heavy and thrash metal. This was one of the pop song of those years which I really liked. Thinking on those years I think it was because the drum of this song was heavier than the usual pop songs, the lyrics (even if I didn't understand much of it) seemed far from the cheese lyrics of the pop songs of those years and also the general music seemed much darker (which for me meant more real) than mainstream music of the 80s.
Metal fan here too. I think these groups resonate because they have a defiant, rebellious, and conscious vibe that parallels metal. Metal groups could easily cover these songs.
I think its basically about people who lack empathy towards other people and also about standing by your principles and not letting the people "with the one track minds" control you. Its also a statement about dictatorships and their drive to crush anyone and anything that stands in their way. I think Tears for Fears did a lot of songs about the importance of caring and compassion in general.
So I just hit 50 and have literally been close to 1k concerts in my life. 2 years and 3 months ago tears for fears took the number one spot of greatest concerts I’ve been too. And that was bcuz of Roland’s vocals. I don’t take #1 lightly. If you can my dear-see them. Even my jaded wife was like “holy shit did that just happen!”
Infact, most of the instruments used in this song were considered so overused that people (namely Phil Collins) literally put "this isn't a Fairlight synthesizer" on the liner notes 💀
"A lot of people think that 'Shout' is just another song about primal scream theory, continuing the themes of the first album. It is actually more concerned with political protest. It came out in 1984 when a lot of people were still worried about the aftermath of The Cold War and it was basically an encouragement to protest." -Roland Orzabal "It concerns protest inasmuch as it encourages people not to do things without actually questioning them. People act without thinking because that's just the way things go in society. So it's a general song, about the way the public accepts any old grief which is thrown at them." -Curt Smith
Cold War vibes were still strong until right after the Berlin Wall fell, although it was still on into the mid 90’s. I was 15 in 89 when the wall fell. Talk about a life changing event! And when the Soviet Union collapsed, all the metalheads went to Russia to stage one of the biggest concerts for freedom. It was amazing!
And this, kids, is why you don't gloss over grammatical mood. The way they slide into the chorus, overlaying it with the end of the verse, is a very, very slick use of mood. Now, stick with me on this one. The chorus starts with a command: Shout, shout, let it all out. Here, "Shout!" is used in the imperative mood, almost as an interjection. But, since "shout" is also a verb, it has an infinitive mood: "to shout." So, by ending each verse with an infinitive--"you shouldn't have TO JUMP for joy," "I hope we live TO TELL the tale," "I'd really love TO BREAK your heart,"--they can slide the infinitive form of, "to shout," underneath the verse lyric, flip it to the imperative, and get the song's signature overlapping lyrics. It's top-notch songwriting.
I danced, and I danced, and I danced, and I sang, and I played my drums and danced some more, to this song, from 1985 onward!! I love TFF!! Great band!
tears for fears always had and still have deeper lyrics, similar to R.E.M. they always sound like fun and stuff, but when you take a closer look at the songs you realize the mostly deeper meaning
Can you believe it? These guys are STILL putting out top drawer material! Check out 'End of Night' off their 2021 album "The Tipping Point". Turn it up and it will have you grooving!
Sowing the seeds of love , Woman in Chains, The Working Hour, Mad World, Advice for the young at heart, Badman's Song, Raoul & the Kings of Spain, Break it down again... And more...
Hi Rachael.... Another great song for you to react to is Tears for Fear's "Head Over Heels". The video is lots of fun, but the lyrics are much, much deeper.
I'm not a big fan of 80's, British Second Wave, MTV, synth pop, but there are certain examples that rise above the genre and era, and this is definitely one of them!
Man, I cant explain the excitement I feel as soon as I hear the intro to this song. Even though Ive heard this song thousands of times over my 37 years. Lol! I wish I could say I was GEN X but I missed it by being born in 1987 and being a millennial instead. 😢 But I'd rather that than being a GEN Z.😂 😳 😬 But my hubby is GEN X born in early 1980. He was 4 years old when this song, "Shout" came out. Tears for Fears is one of many of our fav bands to listen too. We certainly love our 80s music and movies. I wish I could have got to live through more of it. But the 90s was also a great decade for music and movies. I'd say the 1980s and 90s was the last of best decades. I also have a great appreciation from much older music in many different genres but especially in early rock n roll and classic country music at its finest. My mother was born in 1953. And so she was a huge Beatles fan and went to see them several times in concert. She was in love with Paul McCarthy. Lol When I decided to learn how to guitar, I took too the guitar really fast and could play by ear.which helped alot. Practically everyone in my family myself included is a singer and musician. Its a gift that has been passed down many generations. Even my great great grandfather was an orchestra leader. I remember some of the first several songs I wanted to learn how to play on guitar right away. To name a few, the songs was Tears for Fears "Everybody Wants To Rule The World", Johnny Lang "Lie To Me", Scorpions "Rock You Like A Hurricane", The Beatles "Twist and Shout", The Animals, "House of the Rising Sun", The Judds "Mama He's Crazy" and "Grandpa". Aerosmith "Jaded" & "Ragdoll". Reba McEntires songs, "And Still & Does He Love You". ACDC "Back in Black". I have always loved a wide variety of music and genres and my list of songs has only continued to grow that I enjoy playing over thr years. But I love the oldies and classics even more. Especially back when you actually had to have raw pure talent and be a fantastic singer or else you didn't make the cut. Now you can suck at singing karaoke snd not sound anywhere near close as good as these legends in the past who sang live and didnt lip sing or depend on auto tune. And some of these so called singers sound like a train wreck on karaoke which is why autotune is their best friend. So yes, its nice to get back to these legeneds who were pure talent. And in many cases, they sounded even better live even though their studio version was awesome. I mean just go back and listen to the Righteous Brothers in the live performance sincing Unchained Melody. It will knock your socks off for sure! But man, I just feel the 80s oozing from this song "Shout" and it puts me in a blissed out state of mind. I wish I could Marty McFly my way back to the 1980s.
For me this song is a calling for you to speak your mind and don't agree with everything you are told, you have to have your own voice. You should react to "Woman In Chains", also by Tears for Fears, with the great Oletta Adams.
Hi. I saw the ad with u & Inna & subscribed to both of your channels! Looking lovely!❤😍🥰 Awesome song! I love '80s music! More Tears For Fears songs: Everybody Wants To Rule The World, Head Over Heels, Sowing The Seeds Of Love
You were such a ding dong, lol. I'm glad someone else out there uses that. Every time my friends hear me use that they start laughing. Great song as well. One of my favorite bands from the 80's.
I bought it as a single. So you can touch the music as you put it on the player. You've paid much more attention to it. Listen to the music! And right: vibin' and no clue what its about because lack of english.
There is a live performance of this song that is just incredible with them several years older, orchestral accompaniment, etc.......check it out, or rather check it on out.
Damn!! When you say cmon and look me in the eyes, i feel how space continuum portals open between our two places , and we start going (like Lady and the Stranger)
Everybody wants to rule the world is my fav the other guy sings more. Watch them do some live performances they have gotten better and better. Shout live on UA-cam where they are outside and the music sounds even better live
Don't worry, most people vibe to songs and have NO IDEA what the song is about. Lyrics are mostly secondary to people. It's unfortunate but also makes sense.
They wrote and sang mad world a song that then went on to be famous on the film Donnie dark with a cover by Gary Jules. Please review theresyand the best version of mad world! 😊
IMO Disturbed does an excellent version of this song. Love your channel & especially your Rayactions so I'd love to see it covered on yon your channel.
Shout ALL the things you don't need, then you will know ALL the things you actually need. The mind and soul is owned by God, the brain and soul, front of the foot, is owned by you. Together you will fulfill any need you desire. ;-)
OMG, Labyrinth again. Does a day go by that you don't think about that movie? You're so funny, crack me up every video. They have co-lead singers. There's a half dozen really good songs, if you want to followup.
GOOD TOUCH TO tears for Fears, 🍀🏸if you choose the song " advise for the young heart " will be very interesting to check the lyrics and also music....GOOD ONE THAT HOPE you can take . Great Channel 🪕🛡️✨🎹🥁
RESEARCH: Janov...I love paradoxes and ironies: And here is a doozy: UA-camrs who have commodified themselves and their videos selling their souls in the process to a social media concern that is as skanky and blood sucking as it gets groving on and digging on (at least for public consusmption) a song with the more than relevant line “you shouldn’t have to sell your soul”in it. Great music from the 80's

"In violent times you shouldn't have to sell your soul"
absolute masterpiece. ⭐
I love that line.
In 1985 this song was HUGE! I loved the video and fell madly in love with Roland! 🥰
I think its basically about people who lack empathy towards other people and also about standing by your principles and not letting the people "with the one track minds" control you. Its also a statement about dictatorships and their drive to crush anyone and anything that stands in their way. Graduated high school in '81 and this is such a great 80s vibe for sure
"Pale Shelter" is also a real gem.

80's vibes are so good we have too much overproduced music these days ......
It’s pretty funny considering most musicians of the 70’s believed that most 80’s music was overproduced.
Infact, most of the instruments used in this song were considered so overused that people (namely Phil Collins) literally put "this isn't a Fairlight synthesizer" on the liner notes 💀
FWIW I love Fairlights and DX7s and Prophets and all that good stuff. They're overused because they sound incredible
And that big ass 80's reverb is overused even to this day because again, sounds incredible lol
The kind of rock anthem that makes you feel more and more empowered as it goes on.
And this is the kind of rock anthem that I can listen to over and over again without ever getting bored!

She's too young to know all of that in these times. It's great that people like yourself are educating her though.
80's the New Wave Era songs

such a good band back in the day

Songs from the big chair is one of my favorite albms
First two albums, among my favorite albums ever.
Disturbed does a great cover of this called "Shout 2000".
Can you believe it? These guys are STILL putting out top drawer material! Check out 'End of Night' off their 2021 album "The Tipping Point". Turn it up and it will have you grooving!
The Tipping Point is an amazing album.
My long lost Cold War music. I hear it on the oldies station now. It makes me sad. I am getting old lol
Tears For Fears is a very good band. Everybody Want’s To Rule The World and Head Over Heels are two other good songs.
Just iconic! That 's it! Nothing more to say!
It makes me Shout too. 😊 The 80s were crazy!
Epic as epic could ever be! And just sayin', the 80's is back!!!
I recommend listening to their later songs. They are consistently amazing songwriters, but most people don't listen beyong this era.
It’s about Roland’s parents
Their other massive hit was Everybody Wants to Rule the World, if you want to check that out. They had others, but I can't recall.
Sowing the seeds of love , Woman in Chains, The Working Hour, Mad World, Advice for the young at heart, Badman's Song, Raoul & the Kings of Spain, Break it down again... And more...
TFM and Depeche Mode transcended 80's pop into something timeless and classic
Hi Rachael....
Another great song for you to react to is Tears for Fear's "Head Over Heels".
The video is lots of fun, but the lyrics are much, much deeper.
Superb tune, grew up with this band early 80,s,good times!
That song is perfect to fell in love
Yeah it's iconic. Thanks for being honest and not act like you never heard this before.
Instrumentation is imaculate!!!
I haven't heard that one in a long time, but it's good to see that I can still sing along with it.
TFF are fuckin awesome. So many good tunes... Memories Fade is my personal favorite

Favorite Tears for Fears song: Break it Down Again.
you're groovin' just way to good with this😁
The way I understand is that we should speak out when we think it’s wrong.
Love the 80s. Love your content and voice. And side note you are absolutely beautiful

The good old days... when it was REAL music, not this modern day jibber jabber. All hail our 80's spiritual leader Mister T!
OMG, I'm reacting to a song that I've heard 100's of times
IMO Disturbed does an excellent version of this song. Love your channel & especially your Rayactions so I'd love to see it covered on yon your channel.
Scandroid has an awesome cover of this song with a great music video
Get on this one before others do "green knuckle material walk away"
The reason all the GenXers always make jokes about this intro being the call of GenX. It's cause it is true.
Shout ALL the things you don't need, then you will know ALL the things you actually need.

Great Channel 🪕🛡️✨🎹🥁
You should listen to Disturbed's cover of this. If gives the song a much different vibe and tone.
It is more a political protest song about issues in Margaret Thatcher's England in the early 80's.
Errr ok
I like cover that Disturbed did
😍🥰💯🔥😎
🤣🤣🤣 Sing it, Gurrl!!!
I'm not a huge 80's fan, but this is one of my favorites from the decade

Disturbed did an amazing cover of this song. That's a song you must react to following this one
You are a fox . Very pretty indeed. And this song is bad ass I understand you.
Both men sing the chorus. It's not reverb. Their voices are similar.
Woman in chains by tears for fears
