Your next review in the Tears for Fears discography has to be either Shout , Mad World , or Head Over Heels . Three absolute classics ! You will enjoy all 3 Aileen !!
definitely shout, in my opinion. so good!
Absolutely, she needs to do all three!
Sowing The Seeds of Love. C'mon.
Head over heels best song and video
@@sc81672 Classic video for sure !
One of the greatest bands of this era. Exceptional artists
Saw them at the odeon around 85 and they were absolutely superb live.
Great band and glad to see they came back with a very strong album recently.
Also check "Shout" and "Head over heels".
For sure great songs. My personal favorite is "The Working Hour".
and Sowing the Seeds of Love
Shout and mad world to start
My first record was in 1960 in London and "Advice For The Young At Heart" is one of my Top 10 of all time with the accompanying video showing a Latino Wedding..
Mad World
My favourite lyric: "I can't stand this indecision, married with a lack of vision" really is a timeless statement.
The band actually has two great singers! This song was sung primarily by Curt. Check out "Head Over Heels" to see Roland front and center.
The 80's encapsulated in one song. You MUST listen to their song "Sowing The Seeds Of Love", complete brilliance.
One of the rare bands with two legit lead singers
Don't see that too often. Alice In Chains is another band with 2 singers that comes to mind.
@@YeahResident The Cars was another one from the same era - and XTC.
This is one song that brings back so many memories of the 80's. So nostalgic it hurts!
Remember Dennis Miller weekend update on SNL? Also he continued using this as his opener for the Dennis Miller Show into the 90s
Yeah, my brother bought this album back in 1985. Songs from the Big Chair was on our record player constantly. I remember thinking: Man this is a great album!
Definitely brings back memories of the summer of '85!
I feel that. It truly makes one want to go back to that time with the knowledge we have now!
Nostalgia is a beautiful thing ..
I'd go back tomorrow if it were possible 😁🎶👍
I'm now 62 same age as Kurt and Roland
"Welcome to your life, there's no turning back." Has to be one of the greatest opening lines ever.
'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, that's life
Tryna make ends meet, you're a slave to money then you die’
Guess the song?!
Great lyrics in this song all around
"Head Over Heels", "Sowing the Seeds of Love", "Shout", "Woman in Chains"/ Check 'em.
One of my favorite ever "tears" moments was seeing them in 1993 (with only orzabel) and Gayle Ann Dorsey on bass
The back ground vocals on Woman in Chains was AMAZING
SO DAMN MOVING
WOW
That's an excellent list. I suppose it would be obligatory to add "Mad World," but if I had to pick just one song from their first album, it would be "Pale Shelter."
The guitar solos in this are woefully overlooked. One of the best songs of the 80's.
🎯🎯
I always love the one at the end of Shout too. Lulled by the new wave sound and you don't expect the sneaky good guitars to come bursting through.
Glad you mentioned it--one of my all time favorites for cool riffs. The one at the end is fire. You should watch the version when they do it live at "The Proms" It's on UA-cam.
Real Genius... this brings back so many memories. If you haven't seen that movie I suggest you watch it. Underrated gem
HAHA...I love that movie! I swear, Mitch is played by Sarah Jessica Parker...you can't convince me otherwise, LOL! Once you see it; you can't unsee it 🤣
Also Tears for Fears has another Interesting Song "Mad World"😊
And many others too ❤
"Shout" is the quintessential Tears for Fears song. You can't listen to the group without having that song going on in your head. You need to check it out.
If the 80's had an official song, it would be this one. This song just captures the essence of the 80's. Free spirited and fun. I miss those days more and more every single day
I'm a metal head but have never had a problem listening to Tears for Fears. The guitarist is also a great singer. Check out some of their other music to see him take the lead on vocals. He is also a really solid guitar player.
Just here to say I'm a metalhead guitarist who can sing, rap, and even produce beats yet you'll find more 70s and 80s music on my Playlists. One day i could be listening to elvis and the next i could be listening to twista. From the Beatles to frank Sinatra or 311 to killswitch engage. Being diverse no matter how painful (country 😅) the transitions can be will inevitably broaden your musical horizons.
This brings back memories of when I was in the Marine corps. A bunch of guys sitting around cleaning our M16's. Singing this, the irony just hit me.
been there done that
Same here
Thank you for your service.
A strange time in history to be coming of age. But also some great memories as well.
Me to, I was at Pendleton 43 area at this time. Going through a divorce so its bittersweet for me. great song Allways takes me back.
I grew up with this wonderful music. The lyric, "There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do, I'll be right behind you" rips me apart every time. It reminds me of my late mother's love. So powerful.
"Shout" is really good too.
I always loved the line "I can't stand this indecision, married with a lack of vision"
Head over heels should be the next reaction
Welcome to 80’s feel good, makes you wanna dance, happy time music, Simpler times. They don’t make it like this anymore.
Tears for fears have many hits like shout and woman in chains
Curt Smith went viral during the pandemic for posting a duet with his daughter covering the bands hit “Mad World”. It’s beautifully done and it’s cool to see he still very much has it.
A few other Tears for Fears Songs to listen to are 'Pale Shelter', 'Mad World', 'Change', 'Shout', 'Woman in Chains', 'The Seeds of Love' and 'The Year of the Knife'
"Head over Heels," "Sowing the Seeds of Love," "Shout"! These guys are the Pink Floyd of 80s and 90s pop music (maybe along with Pet Shop Boys)--very thoughtful lyrics and top-notch musicianship!
P.S. Those gas prices are high even for that time. Those were the prices you'd pay if you were driving between L.A. and Las Vegas.
This is my favorite song of theirs. It was used in the soundtrack of many 80s films, including "Real Genius" starring Val Kilmer, where Val had the line "Ice is nice!" Little did he know that a year later he's be playing the "Ice man" in Top Gun and he was anything but nice!
As for the gas prices, yeah, it hurts. When I drove my 1999 Ford F-250 off the lot in 1999 I remembered the first fuel up. Diesel cost $1.17 a gallon. 271,000 miles later, it still runs like a dream.
Great Story. How much is Gas(petrol in The UK) and Diesel ,now, please and I will tell you The UK prices, currently,as a comparison. :)
@@Isleofskye Here in northern Arizona, the prices for fuel are as follows for 24 May, 2024:
Regular = $3.68
Midgrade = $3.88
Premium = $4.28
Diesel = $3.85
That's price per gallon.
When you consider all prices have doubled or tripled since 1999, gas prices are the same if not cheaper today 🥸
Every time I hear this song it brings me back to simpler times, check out Shout, Sowing the Seeds &/or Head over Heels. Cheers Fr: Canada
We didn't know how good we had it.
Aileen, 'Tears for Fears' are a band from the U.K. they formed in 1980 and had many hits through the '80s into the '90s and beyond. Songs which I recommend by them are:
"Mad World",
"Memories Fade",
"Change",
"Ideas as Opiates",
"Pale Shelter",
"Watch Me Bleed",
"Shout",
"Head Over Heels",
"Sowing the Seeds of Love",
"The Way You Are".
There are many more but these are good ones to continue with.
Ah yes…. One of the anthem songs of Gen-X. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
Now you need to go watch Wierd Science and fully embrace the 80s. Follow it up with Farris Bulers Day Off and Goonies. The 80s starter kit. Just add neon colors
You left out Breakfast Club :)
Mad World and Shout are a go to for this band.
Fun fact, we have a speech therapist to thank for the wonderful voice of the singer, as a kid he had a really serious stutter, and his therapy included singing lessons to learn better control of his diaphragm, this is where he (the singer) discovered that he enjoyed singing and actually sounded pretty darn good, and... he did not stutter during singing.
Over the years he got better and better at singing and learned to control his stutter thnx to that, and eventually it gave us this amazing band for the ages with songs that stand the test of time.
The country singer Mel Tillis was similar....could sing great, but stuttered when he talked. I don't think he ever outgrew the stuttering.
@@JS-TexanJeff Yeah there have been a good few great singers with a stutter when speaking normally, several country singers if i recall correctly.
Tbh, singing as therapy? sounds like one of those rare occasions when therapy is actually fun hehehe
Noone has mentioned their classic Woman In Chains with Oleta Adams... just an amazing piece of musical beauty and sorry. Well worth a listen. Great reaction as always - thanks 😊
I was a teenager in the 80s and boy was it the best decade for everything. Music TV Films Fashion Art just brilliant
Great review to an iconic song, an iconic band. Tears For Fears were big back in the 80s. Please check out Shout, Head over Heels, and Sowing The Seeds of Love. Love from the UK!!!
Oh there are soooo many! ‘Woman in Chains’, ‘Sowing the seeds of love’, ‘shout’, killing with kindness’ elemental’, Mad World’, ‘ The tipping point’………
Lol yup and about 30 more on top of that!!
Tears for Fears is the epitome of the 1980's music, as much as Madonna or Cyndi Lauper, or the hair bands. Love their music, especially this song and Suffer the Children, my 2 favorites
This is my favorite pop band of all time. So many timeless hits and they still sound great now. Saw them a couple of years ago when they were touring with their brand new album! Their voices are still super clean, you can really tell they have taken good care of their vocals.
Aileen you hit it on the nose I have been saying it for years I am 56 and 80's is where my heart is. When a new song came on the radio we never heard before we INSTANTLY knew who it was. Tears for Fears Joan Jett, Flock of Seagulls, Simple Minds, David Bowie, Cindy Lauper, Human League, Level 42, Thomas Dolby Depeche Mode witch by the way I would love to see you react to them and on and on In metal we had Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, Scorpions, Whitesnake. You would have LOVED growing up in that era of music mastery. Thank you for reacting to them. Much Love.
My sister and I were huge Big Country fans. I put in a suggestion for Aileen on Discord.
@@Hybridgtr Big Country was Awesome
Well stated, the radio….(instantly thought of Rush & Queen) brought us everything, & if I didn’t have it on, I was burning through my cassette case cruisin the strip on the weekends!😎🤘
I also love this video because Curt Smith is driving the Austin-Healey 3000 sports car in Southern California on the 10 through Desert Hot Springs and Palm Springs!
Thanks Alieen for visiting my favorite era for music the 1980’s. So much great music to choose from. Can you look into bands such as U2, INXS, The Police The Cure and The Talking Heads. Highly appreciate you. Thanks for your energy and great smile.
I saw Tears for Fears on the Songs from the Big Chair tour in 85 and again on the Seeds of Love tour in 1990. When they split after that song I saw Roland Orzabal on the Elemental and Raoul and the Kings of Spain tour and Curt Smith on his solo tour in support of Soul on Board album. All shows in Los Angeles and San Francisco except Seeds of Love in Atlanta GA. I was there on business I live in Santa Monica California but used to live in San Francisco. The band is one of the best duos ever like Hall and Oates!
"Woman in Chains" is a must listen with Oleta Adams as a guest vocalist on the song. Simply stunning 😮
First of all, it was the early 80s & MTV had just came on TV. Most of the 80s music was good & diverse, but the first few years of music videos didn't make a whole lot of sense. The cowboy kid didn't make anymore sense than having the doo-wop guys in suits doing the dance number at the shut-down gas station. If you're digging Tears For Fears, they also did the theme song for the Donnie Darko movie (Jake Gyllenhaal), called Mad World. My favorite version of Mad World is where the singer in the pink T-shirt (Curt Smith) sings it along with his daughter on a clip from the Today Show they filmed from home during the pandemic. It's here somewhere on YT. They also have an upbeat dance number called "Break It Down Again" that'll get you up & moving.
This is my ABSOLUTE favorite non-metal band in history. Keep delving.
Shout, Sowing the Seeds of Love, Woman in Chains, Mad World. These four very different songs are not only great, they also show you how creative and great these musicians are.
One of the big bands I can remember from my early- to mid-teenage years in the 80's with several hits to their name. Shout, Everybody Wants to Rule the World, Mad World, Sowing the Seeds of Love and more. And very distinctive. You definitely know it's them you're hearing if you've ever heard them before.
Their song 'Shout' was also covered by Disturbed in 2000. The final track on their 1985 album is called 'Listen', and while it's not a popular choice, I always found it so relaxing, that by the end of the song, I would be effectively immobilized.
This is one of the "mount rushmore" songs from the 80's
💯
Oh yeah, this is the kind of music that can lift up your spirit at any moment in your life that you need it!
Another great band from a great era of music. This song was also played at the end of the 1985 movie "Real Genius". As mentioned below, I'll second the "Shout" and "Head Over Heels" recommendations.
I discovered Tears of Fears only 5 years ago with Head Over Heels, which has become one of my favorite songs of all time. I hope you'll continue listening to more of them!
Head over heels, sowing the seeds, shout! All are fantastic!
Their whole collection is fab - def worth the trip down the rabbit hole x
Aileen
Tears for Fears: Roland & Curt recently released a new album, The Tipping Point in 2022
Great song from my childhood, great to see Curt and Roland getting a lot of praise in 2024. They had a number of hit songs, but you should definitely check out "Shout!" next.
I think the little boy at the playing at the beginning fits into the care free nature of the song. A child playing , a plane flying, a car driving on the open road all represents a sense of being absolutely free. Which was definately a total 80's feeling with a very whimsical vibe for this song that just fits together and is why it has endured all these years..
You cannot beat 80’s music. Period.
Tears for Fears, especially their album "Songs from the Big Chair" were pretty big in the 80s. "Shout", "Everybody Wants To Rule The World", and "Head Over Heals" are definitely on the soundtrack of my senior year of high school.
Wow, first time hearing one of the top 10 groups of the 80s, you are in for a real treat hearing their great songs.
This is one of the most epic songs ever! Tears for Fears are great! Reminds me of my childhood whenever I put them on.❤️🔥
This song just makes you smile and happy.
St Helier, Jersey , '85 . The best year of my life . Where i met my future wife . The mother of my kids and the grandmother of my grandkids . Halcyon days . ❤
I have loved this song ever since I heard it at the end of the movie “Real Genius” when I was a kid in the 80’s!
Now you have to watch Real Genius with Val Kilmer. This is the closing credits cut, and a great end to hysterically good movie.
“I was hot, and I was hungry!”
Fits the themes of the movie and matches the moment so well. My favorite 80s movie, somehow criminally underrated now. An actual countercultural comedy that cares about actual nerds and holds up almost entirely compared to other 80s comedies.
Awesome song and it was featured prominently in the movie that stars Val Kilmer, Real Genius. A great 1980s movie that is a true classic. I think you'd have a lot of fun watching it sometime. I remember when gas went up to $1.50 a gallon and was bummed it had gone up so much. The 80's were truly an iconic time and a literal vortex in time that will never happen again. A truly magical time. It had it's problems and concerns, but we had so much to listen to and to watch and to work with, it truly was magical for me. I grew up in the 80's and miss it all the time. Thanks for another great review!
Perfect 80's song, love it at the end of
REAL GENIUS 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿
Gotta watch “ Shout “ next! Tears for fears are still making music and touring till this day.
A band from the 80s called the Stabilizers and their hit song “ One simple thing” is worth a listen. Guarantee it’s a great one that you’ve never heard
they both have that voice, makes them so good together.
Curt and roland formed tears for fears whilst students and are from the city of Bath in somerset England, The car featured is a nod to their British origins as its a british sportscar called an austin healey and it belongs to the guitarist and vocalist roland orzabal and he still owns it. They recently reformed pre pandemic and are currently back on tour from the pandemic postponed reunion tour. There is a recent remake of this song by them which features additional vocals supplied by curts teenage daughter performed live during the pandemic lockdown crom curt and rolands homes
This is my favorite Tears for Fears song. I was a teen when it came out. It was in the outro for the movie "Real Genius." I was off to college a scant couple of years later. The line that has stuck with me all of these years since is "I can't stand this indecision, married with a lack of vision".
There are a number of ways to interpret the song. I choose to see it as a call to live your life despite all of the turmoil in the world.
You're right, their voices are unmistakable. Check out their song "Shout", then check out Disturbed's cover of it as well.
Tears for Fears is a duo. The guitarist is the writer/arranger. The lead singer on "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" is a bassist. Watch "Mad World", "Pale Shelter", "Change", "Head Over Heels", "Shout", "Mothers Talk (long version)", and "Working Hour". The name Tears for Fears is based on the band's Primal Scream Therapy experiences.
Shout, or head over heels, or mad world, or woman in chains. So much good music by this band!
SOWING THE SEEDS OF LOVE
TEARS FOR FEARS
I wish I could rediscover Tears for Fears for the first time. One of the biggest acts of the 80s and 90s.
The album this came from "Songs from the Big Chair" was one of the biggest hits of the 80s. Other singles on it included Shout, Head Over Heels and Mother's Talk. Their following album (The Seeds of Love) was to me a masterpiece with a significant evolution in sound and production quality. On that, you need to react to the title song but especially Woman in Chains which to me is one of their best ever songs.
It really was a great time to be alive, especially as a musician. When this came out in 1985, I was 20 and my band covered songs like this ;)
Have fun discovering them! I love your channel and you! :)
A great blend of electronic sounds and traditional instruments, and two incredible singers. And those Eighties haircuts & clothes! Fantastic group with a library of great songs. "Head Over Heels" features in "Donnie Darko" and plays so well with the sequence in the film it's lined up with.
one of the biggest hits of the entire decade....Tears For Fears are very good...a lot of great songs...people have mentioned them in the comments already but Shout, Head Over Heels, Sowing the Seeds of Love, Mad World, Pale Shelter, Woman in Chains...if not for the channel you should check them out on your own... :)
"Woman In Chains" will blow your mind and tug your heartstrings. It features the amazing Oleta Adams as the guest vocalist.
Another classic upload from the queen she is so pretty aswell thank U queen have a lovely night looking forward to Ur next upload
Tears for Fears is such an underrated band as not only both Curt and Roland vocals are perfectly harmonized but both of them are super talented musicians. Curt on the bass and Roland on the guitar it's pure magic. Now a days most pop solo acts and even some bands don't even write their own music. Side note, there is no trying to make sense for most music videos from the 80s, it's just a visual vibe to enjoy and ride along 😎
Head Over Heels, Shout, Mad World, Pale Shelter, absolute banging tracks
These guys are incredible. I saw them on 'The Night of the Proms'. Fan forever. And yes ... 'Shout' 😀
"Shout", "Change" and "Pale Shelter" are my faves.
Hi Aileen 😊 Absolutely fantastic reaction to Tears for Fears' Everybody Wants to Rule the World 😊👍 In looking through all the comments... All of the song recommendations for reaction are excellent 👍 This band has a deep rabbit hole and you will enjoy every single song 😊 Welcome to the '80s 😊 I graduated from college in 1980 and started in my career. I considered the years 1980 through 1989 to be great years after the 60s and the 70s turmoil... Everything was very smooth in the 80s. This is the era of the yuppie (young urban professional), BMWs, Izod Lacoste shirts, Dockers, and boat shoes. Two TV shows dominated... The Cosby Show and Family Ties. There was a conservative element in the culture. Price of gas was cheap 😊 By the time of this song in 1985, the price of gas had come back down after the oil embargo in the early 80s where the price was close to the unheard of amount of $2 a gallon. Yes, they were phone booths where you had to carry change to make a call or go inside a business and let them know it's a local call. There were things called pagers where you go to the pay phone and call the number on the pager screen to whomever paged you. In music, the Disco era was coming to a close as it pretty much demolished classic rock and roll and a new era of music was emerging called New Wave and also punk rock and the emergence of Hip Hop along cultural lines. The second British invasion (and also other parts of the world) came to fill in the gaps. The music was very melodic and also borrowed heavy production from the Disco era along with the BackBeat. Also the recommendations for reactions to other bands is excellent 😊 There's a lot to listen for and I know you're going to enjoy every single listen 😊 Have a great day you and Arya 😊👍 PS congratulations on 307, 000 subscribers on UA-cam... This time next year I believe you will have 400,000 😊
That is one of the best songs ever made. They both have great voices.
My mom and oldest cousin favorite band! Grew up with there music and they are awesome! My personal favorites Head of Heels and Sowing the Seeds! both worth to check out!
80's New wave era !❤ ,Duran Duran, A- Ha , Depeche Mode, Spandau Ballet and many more..
Great reaction! Such a smooth and skilled band, still one of my favorites. Head Over Heels and Sowing the Seeds of Love are my other two favorites that you should absolutely listen to.
Curt Smith (lead vocals on this song) and Roland Orzabal (on the guitar, and backing vocals) trade lead vocals on their songs. The entire album that this song comes from 'Songs From the Big Chair' is a masterpiece of the 80s. "Shout" and "Head Over Heels" are also both amazing singles from the album.
This song was the last one recorded for the album, as it just started as a guitar riff that Roland would play. Their producer forced them to keep working on a song using the riff all during the making of the album, eventually creating this gem. In my top 10 of the 1980s...this is like #3 for me. I adore this song.
This song and this video is the concentrated and distilled 80's in it's purest form.
This is a perfect example of music I wasn't into when I was younger, but as I grew older I found an all new nostalgia and appreciation for it... TFF has such a huge sound that's soooo smooth. The louder you play it the better it gets... When you decide to re visit, try the song "Women In Chains".... It really shows how talented they are...
They did this a couple years ago and Curt Smith sounds just as good today as he did back in the 80s.
Head over heals, shout, & Seeds Of Love are 3 great Tears For Fears.
I've never been their fan, but I always loved some of their hits that you should react to, if you really want to get to know their music - way to go: "Shout"; "Sowing the seeds of love"; "Woman in chains"; "Head over heels".
fun fact The year the song came out, it was featured in the ending to the science fiction comedy film Real Genius. In 1986, the song won Best Single at the Brit Awards.
Great GREAT band from the UK. Great Music!! They just got back together a couple of years ago after not talking with one another for over ten years. They released a new album called The Tipping Point, a bit dark, but really really good. One of my all time favourite bands.
