*THIS ORIGIN APPEARS TO BE BROKEN......* I started this origin path as a Hive Mind, since my leaders are basically immortal anyways, and about 30 years into the game I vanquished a Devouring Swarm. I was assimilating their pops and moving everyone back to my system's planets. When I invaded their last world and the war ended, I suddenly became a Devouring Swarm. Later when I vanquished another hive mind empire, I suddenly changed into a Progenitor Hive upon finishing their last world. I was then able to release sectors as fully fledged vassals. Next, I finished off a clone empire and suddenly my pop assembly speed went through the roof, over 20 pop assembly a month. I was playing with no mods, plain vanilla plus DLCs. What tf happened here???
@@tbotalpha8133 I still don't know exactly what happened here, but upon investigating the log files, I have managed to figure one thing out. Upon killing an empire, my empire was getting a progressive tick. This tick was only changing one variable associated with the empire's origin, the numerical identifier for hive minds (1 = normal hive, 2 = devouring swarm, 3 = progenitor, 4 = ???). When set to 4, the empire gains max level pop assembly for some reason. After testing, when set to 5 or higher, the empire appears to gain random benefits/attributes. My guess is there is a function somewhere that accounts for this empire identifier and applies modifiers based on its value.
@@radaro.9682 Imagine suddenly becoming a Progenitor Hive and not being able to build offspring ships/buildings.....your empire immediately starts dying.

@montuplays hey you missed the exceptionaly wonderous bit about this origin. the only condition that you cannot take this origin with is a "Geonocidal Empire", meaning gestalt leaders are immortal and can also benefit from the starting traits without messing with ascension paths and hoping you get lucky. meaning, the age of computational corsairs is now!
I did machine race with gestalt and treasure hoarder. Statecraft for the 150xp with agendas. Got to rank 3 on that trait asap. My space based resources were crazy. Add on the grand archive civic and the edict you get there.
Here's the nuances I've noticed playing this origin. I'd like to preface my experience by saying I played solo and played "less than honest" because I wanted to see the story the first go around. The first time I played I stayed in my home system. Playing with debug makes up for the expansion I missed out on. The first added system spawned two jumps away and the subsequent added systems added were directly linked to my home system. On my second play, an honest play, I went wide. First added system still spawned a couple jumps away but the rest spawned at "the edge" of my territory when the event was triggered. My third and most recent play I did so tall and with the intent to only use what was needed system wise. I forget the name of the new civic that allows you to get unity for new artifacts but I used that for acces to the artifact tradition tree right off. First system added system spawned a couple of jumps away (I believe this is hard coded at this point). I remained in my home system till the second system spawned, it linked to my home world and took ownership of the system. The third added system branched from the 2nd system and I again took ownership of it. The 3rd system did the same and had the same result. The only "correction" I have is if you took the coward's way out you are simply kicked from the final system. The pirates do their thing and leave so you'll still have access to the system, just none of the goodies.
I've always thought it would be cool to have boarding parties in the game, but they are inherently problematic due to lack of fine ship control, both to evade and complete capture. Locking it within an origin that sounds really powerful already seems like the best way to go. Much more for roleplay and laughs than serious competition.
Boarding cables are honestly simply insane. Imagine if you steal a COLOSSUS with that thing. Or something modded, like KAISER'S MOON. This auxiliary module is, perhaps, the most powerful one in the game by far. It's basically necrophage defensive army conversion BUT with actual fleets.
the last fight has 60 Cruisers with Hangars and some other weapons I don't remember, NOT corvettes! I found beating them with Hangar/KA Cruisers was easiest (and those are good anyway with the 30% sublight speed from the leader)
I am enjoying the treasure hunter origin but I hate the fact that is so limited with storage. The 9 active is fine but you should be able to swap treasures not be forced to sell to free up a slot. Also 4 slots for storage sucks imo. What's the point of all that flavor text if it auto sells when your over the limit. Plus the trait treaurehoarder is as it says. Why can't we hoard the treasure.
If there was such a thing as reading "too much" Discworld, I'd apparently be guilty of it, because when you talk about pieces of eight, I can only think of a cockatoo squaking, "twelve and a half percent! Twelve and a half percent!"
I as somebody who plays with achievements enabled I got Relic Hunter from this origin with ease as I got lucky with getting a few dig sites next to me for the other three.
With the amount of relics increasing, it's becoming easier, not that it's a bad thing. If you keep filling your museum, you can straight up buy 3 relics from the curators.
I played all the way through that origin, same way as in this video, but didn't get any sabotage situation. A few more pirates formed, with an event text with reference to the Black Needle, but those pirates were the normal weak ones. Lucky me I guess.
Now that I think about it, would be there a specimen tier list? Given how many of them there are I don't envy poor Montu if he decides to go for it. On another note, Paradox really need to do some Origin and Civics descriptions justice because they hide a great deal of things
That Tresure hoarder seem really nice! Especially if you don't care about keeping your leader alive for as long, since this one will shine in the early game!
Wow, didn't expect to have so much space pirating. I was expecting a more indiana jones approach of just collecting specimens, rather than being able to be a space pirate. Finally I will be able to do a flavorful corsair voidscarred empire
