I was litterally just about to ask on one of your latest videos if you were going to make an updated version before or after final shape. I've been listening/watching these complete story videos ever since you started making them, I'd listen to them while eating, while driving, while working, and even while sleeping. Dynasty was really well made, but wasn't as easy to listen to as these, it deserved more attention than I could afford to at times, got kinda sad when you stopped updating them.
man I JUST started reinstalling the game and decided to rewatch this. I haven't played since Witch Queen (and tbh don't know much lore outside of this video) so I'm super excited to see what I've missed. Can't believe happened to rewatch this right as you're making an updated version, lol, but if you see this, thanks for the content for real. I know creators get hundreds of comments a day and it's easy to slip through the cracks, but this video is amazing. The effort put into the research, the script, even just gathering gameplay footage and splicing it together, all that adds up when a video is 4 hours long. Keep up the good work.
Hearing about the Titan legends in detail nearly made me shed a tear. I have never been so proud to have chosen the crayon eaters as my most valued class.
I main warlock and like what comes with that but my secondary character has been and always will be Titan. Their lore is sick af and playing it also just feels good lol. I have all 3 classes but I don't play Hunter much
@@doriancardenas4430 Dredgen is more common, not necessarily easier depending on your skills at invading. Chronicler is a long grind (Truth to power book takes 30 weeks minimum atm, may be less once SK drops), but there's less skill involved (although you need the mote thief triumph, which is a bit of skill/luck)
Dorian cardenas Simply put Dregen is the quickest Seal to get. Chronicler is practically a timegate Seal. There is no other way to speed the process of getting it because it isn't dependant on skill level.
I come back here every now and then. Not to listen to Byf’s silky smooth, accent narrate the story, in a compelling way to fall to sleep. But to be enthralled all over again by the captivating story of Destiny and its universe. There is potential here for spin off shows, books, more comics, and maybe a movie. I look forward to Byf’s updated: “The complete story of Destiny”, video in the near future. It’s meant to cover the whole Light vs Dark saga, all in time to lead up to the Final Shape.

Dredgen Anguis yeah they’re basically just gonna turn Destiny 2 into Destiny 3 and all the things they had planned for Destiny 3 is just gonna go into Destiny 2 instead
Phillip Dzierbun they explain their reasoning and it’s honestly a really good reason They said that making a Destiny 2 instead of just expanding Destiny 1 was a mistake, and they aren’t trying to make that mistake again. They don’t want to break the community up again and just want to focus on one game so the community can remain together and so that players won’t have to start over yet again and can just keep working on their current characters They also cited how Destiny 2 was shit on launch and took over a full year to become good and they’d also rather not have that happen again and would just like to work with the game that’s already good to keep us the players happy And they have a way to combat Destiny 2 from having too much content due to this aswell with the introduction of the Destiny Content Vault coming whenever Beyond Light drops, where they’re gonna start vaulting/unvaulting content so they can make room to expand and also just clear space so the download isn’t so big for so much unused content like for example the Warmind campaign has only been 0.3% of player’s played activities during the season and yet is 5% of the game’s download so why keep it Also unvaulting does include Destiny 1 content, as they’ve stated that along with vaulting things like Mars, Mercury, Titan, and Leviathan they’re also going to unvault the Cosmodrome along with all of it’s strikes and stuff and also the Vault Of Glass raid will be unvaulted too

We should start a petition where we ask Bungie to work together with Byf to create a Historian/Lorekeeper character in the last city that shares all of this in-game, using the voice-over of Byf with additional/recycled story cutscenes of Bungie.
I’d love that. Byf has the voice and charisma for it. I can imagine it now: making him, a wise wold Warlock, in the lower levels of the Tower, New Lights and Veteran Guardians alike would visit him down in the archives, in his chambers: a fairly big room, a small library, filled with tomes, sprawling scrolls over his desk, reading Hive runes and other arcana. New Lights and other Guardians meeting him for the first time learn of the lesser known stories of the Sol system, while he’s seen often in the bazaar, telling stories to children and New Lights alike. I’ve always seen his Guardian as a wise scholar, a keeper of knowledge, always a tome in hand.
That's one of the actual video games biggest problems. Virtually none of this is contextualized or has influence over the game or it's narrative. Most of the cool stuff has already happened and very little of your efforts you participate in have widespread effects on the world.
I’m going to be honest, when my friend told me about this game, he said I should play the first game before I buy D2. I told him I only cared about shooting bad guys and customizing my Gaurdian. And for a while, that was all Destiny was to me, a game to pass the time. Then I found Byf’s videos. His method of story telling was amazing, and he truly introduced me to the lore rich world of Destiny. I thank you Byf, for entertaining me for hours on end, and educating me on these games.
@@Shadowsoken that would be way to generic? Marvel movies are designed to appeal to the mass audience to make more $$$$. Destiny's lore is designed for those few who want more from their game. Which is why most of it is hidden in lore books never to be opened much less read by most people. The result is that destiny's story takes more risks and needs a publisher who is fine with that. (Look at how bland Endgame is for example)

This video is truly Byf’s master stroke! The captivating narration, the use of visual aids to bring the story and world to life. For a game that’s noted: “there is no story”, Byf has done the game justice by piecing the together the enticing lore.

I'm not so sure about the comparison. For one, Franz-Ferdinant, was only heir to the throne, not emperor. Also, comparing Taox with Princip is giving Princip too much credit. He was just a little shit with ultra nationalist delusions, a very limited understanding on what was going on and a desire to become famous before dying from TB. He was pissed about a habsburg coming to sarajevo on that particular day. And so he - a ultra nationalist wishing for serbias autonomy - desicided that the most reasonable course of action would be to kill not only the heir to the throne of austria-hungary, but also the closest thing to a sypathiser the serbs had at court...
I kinda hope Byf does something like this after Final Shape to cover the entire Light vs Darkness saga but it’d probably be 10+ hours long. I’d still watch it.

Ignigknok yeah I imagine it’s like this You start out running through the city streets with stalls and shops here and there with different things being sold. You see guardians watching over the people and helping them move around different boxes. Ships fly overhead in all different colors. Then you come to the city square, you see a guardian talking to some children telling stories of old, of guardians long gone, lost to the darkness, though they all fought for the light. The stories speak of saint-14, cayde-6, and many other legends. You move past him to your gate, you’ll be on the first colony ship, you’re a part of humanities new hope, you’re going to mars so you can make a start for the rest to come. You meet your crew at the gate, a titan stands before you with their broad shoulders and heavy gauntlets, a warlock with their face shoved into a book making sure they have everything, and a hunter laid out on a crate sleeping. Then you all get on the colony ship to set out. You check everything then double check it. It’s already to go, the ship launches without a problem and you get into orbit. You set to go to mars, but, once you get to mars a problem occurs and you lose almost all of your left engines, as the ship is going down you black out. The you wake up, your eyes stinging, you hear something talking “hey you… you’re finally awake”

RPooL Gaming xol doesn’t have a throne world, none of the worms do they don’t practice sword logic. Oryx and the hive practice sword logic you can only have a throne world by killing and becoming stronger the worms don’t kill they form a symbiotic relationship with hive giving them power
When he transitions from the failed attack on Crota into the discovery of your Guardian, and the music swells, my heart just bursts. I forgot how much I love this game and series. Thank you for reminding me of how special our universe is.
Recently did a school project on the history of saint 14, going into the wiki article for him I realized I could do so much more. I dove into the motivations behind the fallen, the antics of the vex, the battle of 6 fronts. The lore is so well constructed it’s fantastic, can’t wait to see more of it going forward.
I'm relatively new to Destiny (joined around Forsaken to play with my friends), so when Shadowkeep came up and people were talking about all the D1 references I was really sad I was missing out on so much story. This has been the absolute best for me. Thank you and everyone who worked on this for putting it all together!
Yeah theres alot of stuff to take it. I left before warmind and came back abour half way into forsaken, then took another break when shadowkeep came back and just started again yesterday and im confused about everything now lol
D1’s story content (as a whole package with all the DLC) is freaking amazing. The SIVA storyline gave me some of my best memories with Destiny. It’s worth playing if you like the universe.

Jake Stidham that's a fat yes. but also the Taken King loading screen which honestly was the time I felt most emotionally invested in the game. TTK main screen always put me in the mood to save the Sol System.
The songs always reminds me of how these purple and gold of legendary and exotic guns were just the smallest bit brighter from how they are now Barely a different hue. Anyone notice that.
I haven't played D2 regularly since Forsaken, but God I love the lore of this franchise. Thank you as always Sir Byf, you are the undisputed king of lore.

Apparently, Radaghast, one of the first Lightbearers to coin the term “Guardian”, was the catalyst that shaped the foundation of what Guardians (whether we wield the Light or Darkness against our enemies) would be. He once had a sword, with a legend ingrained within it as legendary as Excalibur. Imagine how poetic it would be for us to reforge the blade, and if it were used to stab and kill the Witness? I do hope Byf creates another timeline video for the light and dark saga. This game deserves a series encompassing this saga, or at least showing us the origins and spin off stories of Destiny’s most iconic legends: Cayde-6, Mara Sov, Ikora Rae, Zavala, Rasputin, the Hive siblings, etc.
They had a couple in the base game pre expansion in d1 cause they didn’t wanna shell money on every Mew voice line with the actors so they just gave the lines to ghost lol
I feel one think people haven’t praised enough about this video is that they made complete subtitles for a 4 hour lore recap, the effort put into this is unimaginable.
Fifth generation fighter is what we currently refer to planes such as the f22 and su57, I was kind of confused by this in a different way in that those are fighter jets and obviously not capable of space travel, unless this is specifically referring to starfighters

Facts, I stopped playing destiny after the taken king came out because it was getting boring, but now that there’s more lore & a bigger game I got destiny 2 for my PC & now I want to learn more about the Vex lore. when I started playing destiny the vex were my favourite, going into the vault of glass & killing atheon was so cool to me, seeing all the other vex constructs & learning about what they are is why I started playing destiny again. That & my top of the line gaming PC

I would rather have books made like the Halo series and read those than play the game at this point. Such a profound level of lore that Bungie has created in the background is lost in game. It's a transgression to put it lightly.

For four years I’ve been with this community, ever since I started I’ve loved the lore. Byf has been a guide through it for many including me, so let me just say... I AM SO HYPED
I just started playing Destiny 2 and I do like it. I have gotten to 1300 in about 100hrs but it was all very overwhelming and I had to be hand-held to a degree by my friends who were cool with showing me the ropes and the lingo. But even one of my friends who knows a lot of lore barely managed my barrage of questions. SO I thank you so much for making this and exposing me to content I never knew and thus could never get questions or answers to. Especially the Hive god backstories, they were especially confusing. Edit: 4 hours later I’m stunned at how comprehensive this was with only very few questions at the end since some things escaped my mind because of the sheer duration. Thank you again, and I’ll meet you starside.
Played Destiny, the story and lore always, always touched struck a chord with me, the struggle of humanity reaching for the stars and ensuring their own survival was incredible, the sacrifices of many for the lives of the few, it was just, amazing. The grind really took it away for me, I really wanted to play all the raids and everything, But always my equipment was just short of being good enough. Eventually I gave up. There is only so much you can grind on your own, and not being good enough and just being a more casual player with weaker equipment really made it difficult to participate in raids. That being said, I really want to restart the whole journey from the beginning. I don't have the gaming equipment necessary atm but hopefully in the future.. Thank you for your account of the Destiny lore, it really made me want to play it again. If not for the grind, I would really love to pick up Destiny 1 & 2 again.
Man I started playing destiny when it came out, finished the entire game, bought destiny 2, got super disappointed and bailed and I've just started playing again and I gotta say this was super well made and super interesting to the point I just had to watch it all on one sitting. I'm doing the same thing. Bought destiny 1, beat it. Never had friends to help with raids so abandoned it. Same thing with Destiny 2. A few years later and I'm back to play it again 😁. I love the lore and I do hope they expand it.

Byf? I've got one thing to say. Thank you for making this. I've loved Destiny's universe since it showed up in year one, although I only got to play within the last six months or so. Finally getting an Xbox One has enabled me to take a first-hand look at a world I waited so very long to witness, but taking so long has caused a major problem for me: I know almost nothing about the lore for the missions I've undertaken and the weapons I've discovered. Until now. I loved the game before this video, before finding this channel. I think I love it even more now, and this grows every time I watch one of your videos. To play the game is one thing, to understand the story you are taking part in and helping to build, even in a miniscule way... is something else entirely. This was well worth four hours watching, and you just renewed my desire to play a game I was just recently starting to grow burned out on. So, I guess the best way to end this has to be... Per Audacia Ad Astra, Guardian. Thank you for all of this.
Destiny is a wonderful universe that is kinda frustrating to be a part of due to the limited in game lore and peddling microtransactions. However, the memories I've made in Destiny have been some of the best videogame memories I have.
I just imagine byf as a wise warlock in a chair next to a fireplace with a big book telling the story of destiny’s past and a bunch of guardians gathering around him sitting, laying down, and lounging around as they listen to the story.
I have watched many lore videos about destiny that are hours long but this one is my all time favourite. I would love to see a new one with the current information that we have. I watched it 3 years ago and I was as amazed back then as I am right now. Love your vids!

As a brand new player to Destiny 2, I want to give a heartfelt thanks to this great work. Never having played Destiny 1, and with a lot of the story vaulted in Destiny 2, your video allows me to be just as excited and moved by the story beats that I will encounter. As a day one player you will be no more lost than the guy who played D1 and payed for D2 and the vaulted content. This games lore takes a dedicated 3 hour video to try to understand it all. Bungee is terrible at making the story linear and giving the player a path to follow. Still a fun game once you start to get a feel for navigation

Destiny’s is shit because it fell into the trap a lot of these “live service” games do: They assume that if you make a ton of lore it can replace having a proper story. Also it assumes it can tell you how to feel even though it has zero intrigue and charisma. And while there are games that do this, Dark Souls comes to mind, it only gets away with it because you have your own personal story in it. No amount of lore is going to make up for the fact that you are supposedly the “chosen one” doing a dumb emote dance in hot pink armor in a social area with a bunch of other “chosen ones” who mow down hordes of aliens before breakfast making you wonder how the hell we got our ass kicked in the first place. And I largely blame a vast majority of this on the idea that someone thought unironicly, “You know what gamers like to do? READ.”

@@TheStewiestPac Many of the individual stories are far more simple than this video lays out, I literally had no idea that the Destiny universe had this much depth until now. It’s a bit annoying that the games don’t really utilise this lore, because it’s clearly very complex and interesting, but instead they chose to make very basic point A to B type stories for the expansions.

Chronicler is a long grind (Truth to power book takes 30 weeks minimum atm, may be less once SK drops), but there's less skill involved (although you need the mote thief triumph, which is a bit of skill/luck)

I come back here every now and then. Not to listen to Byf’s silky smooth, accent narrate the story, in a compelling way to fall to sleep. But to be enthralled all over again by the captivating story of Destiny and its universe. There is potential here for spin off shows, books, more comics, and maybe a movie. I look forward to Byf’s updated: “The complete story of Destiny”, video in the near future. It’s meant to cover the whole Light vs Dark saga, all in time to lead up to the Final Shape.

They said that making a Destiny 2 instead of just expanding Destiny 1 was a mistake, and they aren’t trying to make that mistake again. They don’t want to break the community up again and just want to focus on one game so the community can remain together and so that players won’t have to start over yet again and can just keep working on their current characters
They also cited how Destiny 2 was shit on launch and took over a full year to become good and they’d also rather not have that happen again and would just like to work with the game that’s already good to keep us the players happy
And they have a way to combat Destiny 2 from having too much content due to this aswell with the introduction of the Destiny Content Vault coming whenever Beyond Light drops, where they’re gonna start vaulting/unvaulting content so they can make room to expand and also just clear space so the download isn’t so big for so much unused content like for example the Warmind campaign has only been 0.3% of player’s played activities during the season and yet is 5% of the game’s download so why keep it
Also unvaulting does include Destiny 1 content, as they’ve stated that along with vaulting things like Mars, Mercury, Titan, and Leviathan they’re also going to unvault the Cosmodrome along with all of it’s strikes and stuff and also the Vault Of Glass raid will be unvaulted too

I can imagine it now: making him, a wise wold Warlock, in the lower levels of the Tower, New Lights and Veteran Guardians alike would visit him down in the archives, in his chambers: a fairly big room, a small library, filled with tomes, sprawling scrolls over his desk, reading Hive runes and other arcana. New Lights and other Guardians meeting him for the first time learn of the lesser known stories of the Sol system, while he’s seen often in the bazaar, telling stories to children and New Lights alike. I’ve always seen his Guardian as a wise scholar, a keeper of knowledge, always a tome in hand.

I’m going to be honest, when my friend told me about this game, he said I should play the first game before I buy D2. I told him I only cared about shooting bad guys and customizing my Gaurdian. And for a while, that was all Destiny was to me, a game to pass the time. Then I found Byf’s videos. His method of story telling was amazing, and he truly introduced me to the lore rich world of Destiny. I thank you Byf, for entertaining me for hours on end, and educating me on these games.

The stories speak of saint-14, cayde-6, and many other legends. You move past him to your gate, you’ll be on the first colony ship, you’re a part of humanities new hope, you’re going to mars so you can make a start for the rest to come. You meet your crew at the gate, a titan stands before you with their broad shoulders and heavy gauntlets, a warlock with their face shoved into a book making sure they have everything, and a hunter laid out on a crate sleeping. Then you all get on the colony ship to set out. You check everything then double check it. It’s already to go, the ship launches without a problem and you get into orbit. You set to go to mars, but, once you get to mars a problem occurs and you lose almost all of your left engines, as the ship is going down you black out. The you wake up, your eyes stinging, you hear something talking “hey you… you’re finally awake”

Recently did a school project on the history of saint 14, going into the wiki article for him I realized I could do so much more. I dove into the motivations behind the fallen, the antics of the vex, the battle of 6 fronts. The lore is so well constructed it’s fantastic, can’t wait to see more of it going forward.

I'm relatively new to Destiny (joined around Forsaken to play with my friends), so when Shadowkeep came up and people were talking about all the D1 references I was really sad I was missing out on so much story. This has been the absolute best for me. Thank you and everyone who worked on this for putting it all together!

D1’s story content (as a whole package with all the DLC) is freaking amazing. The SIVA storyline gave me some of my best memories with Destiny. It’s worth playing if you like the universe.

Apparently, Radaghast, one of the first Lightbearers to coin the term “Guardian”, was the catalyst that shaped the foundation of what Guardians (whether we wield the Light or Darkness against our enemies) would be. He once had a sword, with a legend ingrained within it as legendary as Excalibur. Imagine how poetic it would be for us to reforge the blade, and if it were used to stab and kill the Witness? I do hope Byf creates another timeline video for the light and dark saga. Fifth generation fighter is what we currently refer to planes such as the f22 and su57, I was kind of confused by this in a different way in that those are fighter jets and obviously not capable of space travel, unless this is specifically referring to starfighters

Facts, I stopped playing destiny after the taken king came out because it was getting boring, but now that there’s more lore & a bigger game I got destiny 2 for my PC & now I want to learn more about the Vex lore. when I started playing destiny the vex were my favourite, going into the vault of glass & killing atheon was so cool to me, seeing all the other vex constructs & learning about what they are is why I started playing destiny again. That & my top of the line gaming PC

For four years I’ve been with this community, ever since I started I’ve loved the lore. Byf has been a guide through it for many including me, so let me just say...
I AM SO HYPED
I just started playing Destiny 2 and I do like it. I have gotten to 1300 in about 100hrs but it was all very overwhelming and I had to be hand-held to a degree by my friends who were cool with showing me the ropes and the lingo. But even one of my friends who knows a lot of lore barely managed my barrage of questions. SO I thank you so much for making this and exposing me to content I never knew and thus could never get questions or answers to. Especially the Hive god backstories, they were especially confusing.
Edit: 4 hours later I’m stunned at how comprehensive this was with only very few questions at the end since some things escaped my mind because of the sheer duration. Thank you again, and I’ll meet you starside.

Played Destiny, the story and lore always, always touched struck a chord with me, the struggle of humanity reaching for the stars and ensuring their own survival was incredible, the sacrifices of many for the lives of the few, it was just, amazing. The grind really took it away for me, I really wanted to play all the raids and everything, But always my equipment was just short of being good enough. Eventually I gave up. There is only so much you can grind on your own, and not being good enough and just being a more casual player with weaker equipment really made it difficult to participate in raids. That being said, I really want to restart the whole journey from the beginning. I don't have the gaming equipment necessary atm but hopefully in the future..
Thank you for your account of the Destiny lore, it really made me want to play it again. If not for the grind, I would really love to pick up Destiny 1 & 2 again.

Man I started playing destiny when it came out, finished the entire game, bought destiny 2, got super disappointed and bailed and I've just started playing again and I gotta say this was super well made and super interesting to the point I just had to watch it all on one sitting. Thank you very much for helping me remember all of destiny 1 and for helping me catch up with the destiny 2 lore! ^-^
I'm doing the same thing. Bought destiny 1, beat it. Never had friends to help with raids so abandoned it. Same thing with Destiny 2. A few years later and I'm back to play it again 😁. I love the lore and I do hope they expand it.

I've loved Destiny's universe since it showed up in year one, although I only got to play within the last six months or so. Finally getting an Xbox One has enabled me to take a first-hand look at a world I waited so very long to witness, but taking so long has caused a major problem for me: I know almost nothing about the lore for the missions I've undertaken and the weapons I've discovered.
Until now.
I loved the game before this video, before finding this channel.
I think I love it even more now, and this grows every time I watch one of your videos. To play the game is one thing, to understand the story you are taking part in and helping to build, even in a miniscule way... is something else entirely.
This was well worth four hours watching, and you just renewed my desire to play a game I was just recently starting to grow burned out on.

Destiny is a wonderful universe that is kinda frustrating to be a part of due to the limited in game lore and peddling microtransactions. However, the memories I've made in Destiny have been some of the best videogame memories I have.

As a day one player you will be no more lost than the guy who played D1 and payed for D2 and the vaulted content. This games lore takes a dedicated 3 hour video to try to understand it all. Bungee is terrible at making the story linear and giving the player a path to follow. Still a fun game once you start to get a feel for navigation

P.B.Q: purposely bad quality alot of people
Destiny’s is shit because it fell into the trap a lot of these “live service” games do:
They assume that if you make a ton of lore it can replace having a proper story. Also it assumes it can tell you how to feel even though it has zero intrigue and charisma.
And while there are games that do this, Dark Souls comes to mind, it only gets away with it because you have your own personal story in it. No amount of lore is going to make up for the fact that you are supposedly the “chosen one” doing a dumb emote dance in hot pink armor in a social area with a bunch of other “chosen ones” who mow down hordes of aliens before breakfast making you wonder how the hell we got our ass kicked in the first place.
And I largely blame a vast majority of this on the idea that someone thought unironicly, “You know what gamers like to do? READ.”
Shout out to everyone involved in the creation of this incredible piece of media. I would be utterly lost and devastatingly unentertained without the unique effort that you have all come together to put into this video.

@@TheStewiestPac Many of the individual stories are far more simple than this video lays out, I literally had no idea that the Destiny universe had this much depth until now. It’s a bit annoying that the games don’t really utilise this lore, because it’s clearly very complex and interesting, but instead they chose to make very basic point A to B type stories for the expansions.
