To clarify for people that do not understand this video at all. I am not here to tell you what you should or shouldn't buy, because in the end it is your personal choice. This video is based on my research, and my research is based on, mechanics, number of owners, and internet research. I personally wanted to buy one till I researched about this model, and I still want. The title of this video it is not " Do not buy the M5 E60 because is sh**" - this video is, when you go online or in person you start asking some questions to the owner, so that next day you do not drive a rented car. Cheers, Sam

Sam thanks for taking you time to reply. The car has indeed some issue like any other car just at different level, i agree.Having had quite a few cars I can say that this is a dream. This car makes you feel alive, blasting thru the gears at 5000+ is sureal, i love it, it is unfair for people to believe its a bad car, its got its issues and if you dont have money to spare you just dont buy it, right? I appreciate your time you spent on doing your researches.

In all honesty. Cars just are a matter of luck. Not everybody drives the same roads, under the same conditions, etc. But being precautious always avoids an accident

    • @SamCarLegion
      @SamCarLegion  5 років тому +2

Luck isn't always the factor - if we left everything to luck, as society we would be in trouble or extinct. I think take measures in your hand is important. I can tell right away if the car has been taking care, just by looking at the owner, then the car.

I've owned my 2008 BMW E60 M5 for 4 years now and nearly 50,000 miles driven. - Lets walk through some things. - 1. Coding? - Not an issue at ALL for me. 2. Rod Barrings - I haven't had an issue yet and I'm at 93,000 miles and I'm just considering this for good measure. 3. - Oil leaks? I haven't had an issue related to this year. 4. - All E60'S burn oil. It is a V10 F1 Engine. They eat oil for breakfast. This is not an issue, but a fact of reality. 5. - Vibrations? My car is smooth as butter and hard in the rails. 6. Slow Shifting? Yes. In auto. - In manual its lighting bolt fast. - If you drive your M5 in Auto, you shouldn't be driving it. 7. - Reving when you start the engine when its cold? - LOL. - YES, this V10 is a big engine, it is alarming when you wake her up if your not used to it, but it's not a negative issue AGAINST the car. 8. Suspension? These are wear and tear items. - Be a good shopper and make sure your car is maintained. - Parts need to be replaced. 9. Transmission issues? - I had to replace my SMG pump at 75,000 miles. That was a pain in the ass. 10. Expensive repairs? I'll give you that, but the repairs have been few and far between. - I'd say your review is very un-educated. - These cars for $15,000 - $25,000 pending the condition are worth every penny. The shifts are firm, hard and crisp. The enjoyment of the car well out weighs the few repair issues I've had. - These cars are sleeping super cars. - I don't know about you, but I'd rather pay these prices and have a few repairs than spend $160,000 for Ferrari or Lambo to keep similar pace and driving. - PLUS we get 4 doors!

I think it's partly due to whiners on the internet, M5 board, 5 series board, etc. Any older car drops big time in price, like right now the 2006 M5 is 13 model yeas old. The newer, more computers, newer technology. I am on my 2nd 2006 M5. Sold the first, went a different route, just bought another. My point is, yes, they can be expensive to up keep, like any very high performance vehicle, up keep is the key, most people don't do maintenance, trans flush, coolant flush, diff oil change, on and on, biggest thing, this is an 8,400 RPM engine, you HAVE to warm it up properly, many, many do not, then piss and whine about the car that they never did any maintenance on, and abused. I don't buy the whining on this car, you get out of it what you put in. It's simple, any used car, if you don't have any history on the car, don't but it, there's usually a reason there is no history..it's called neglect. Sam, you are posting your crap, from people that have to deal with neglected cars, buy one, have it checked out, maintain it instead of going on others opinions

2008 with 109000 miles now. This car is awesome. Sure you need to do some maintenance but it’s so worth it when you are blasting down the highway. Car was designed for high speed and feels so planted going the road. Not a high torque drag car like the f10 and newer. V10 is so amazing at high rev! Buy one as soon as you can and Love it.

Paul Four In other words it feel like its towing a boat on the low end and it takes till you're at death defying speeds for it to start going fast. We have 8 2006 M5's in our local club in our country.
Including mine that would be 9.
All bought brand new. All SMG's, all driven hard, all problem free except for one cog of death that completely reset after re-starting the car.
The rest are just regular maintenance jobs.
We do, however, change our oil, oil filters, and air filters in half the time that BMW recommends.

550xi is so underrated especially the 2008 model, good alternative. I worked for BMW 3 years and drove everything from Dinan B7s to the Z Coupes (my personal fav to drive) and the M5 E60s do have their issues but as a former employee that has great respect for BMW and German automotive engineering ( I own a 2012 CLS63 my wife drives a bagged out 1970 280li ) they all cost $.... it's impossible to buy a vehicle in that class range A7, EClass or CLS Class types without having something break or have been broken. With proper monitory responsibility and a good mechanic its an obstacle thst is palatable..... Those E60 M5s though 🥲That V10 was the best sound in the world at 830 am hung over with my head out the window..... Sounded like a bullfrog getting choked underwater on an amplifier..... that noise with smelling burnt fuel out of a M5 engine with literally 1-3 miles on it before its even PDI 'd was the best cure for a hangover ever .... Miss those days......

Hey there brother, I hope you are fine.
Just a question, so in short I’ve been looking at e63/64 m6’s recently… and there is one in great condition, only 59,000 to 60,000 Miles. The owner is a close friend of ours, and he has been taking care of the car very well. Every morning he would let it warm up properly, he does oil changes frequently… always at the time.
And oh one more thing, it’s not a daily driver. He drives it sometimes only. We asked him regarding rod bearings, and he said he took perfect care of the car and he didn’t do anything to the engine, so I’m not sure if the rod bearings have been changed or no.
Should we get the rod bearings checked before buying it? Even after he has told us of how great he took care of the car? And let’s say we check the rod bearings and we see they are fine, not in bad shape… we could change later right? This rod bearing issue kinda has us scared, Hope you give advise.

    • @SeeWhyIII
      @SeeWhyIII Рік тому +1

Current e63 owner here (2007 w 37k). If you have a comprehensive record of service then holding off on doing the rod bearings shouldn't be an issue; however, I would recommend preventively changing them prior to 80,000 miles. Additionally, I would change them for peace of mind if you're concerned. Unless you are doing it yourself, I would not pull everything apart to check the bearings, if you do, then I would just change them. Oil tests can be inaccurate so I wouldn't rely on those. I would recommend VAC bearings w ARP bolts. Hope that helped a bit.

If the car gets stock on reverse I have to disconnect the battery for 5 mins and then it will come back to normal ! I love my bmw smg but it's not reliable! These are not Honda's, had a friend bought a Ferrari and first year $24,000 in maintenance and that example is pretty normal in the super-car world. I hear all the time "problems and problems and money and again problems".
I do not agree at all!!! What a negative promotion????? Do you really believe in what you are telling/selling??? Or are you listening to the few???
Let's not exaggerate, there are about 19500 masterpieces (yes) of E60M5 cruising around the world, and about 100-200 people tops mention problems. Let's face it, the V10 is a race-engine! Of course you will hear this and that, but try to do 200'000 miles or much more f.e. with a Ferrari or another supercar and take a look at the expenses...I have to lough///because I don't believe that they hold so long or are still going.
I have one of the first 2005 models with the SMG III gearbox and I am driving it every day since, in town, to work, on the mountains and on the Autobahn, and go very often up the 8250 rpm, the engine is built for that. It loves to rev.
Of course one may destroy it when not properly driven, or when showing off, spinning around all the time and do a lot of Launch controls, put the wrong oil, or not maintain it properly, one could probably destroy even a new VW Golf in one day.
I do not Launch controls, why, one is fast enough without that! I wait to push it hard until the engine has reached his operating temperature, also wait before stopping the engine to first cool down a little bit, put in N when stopping and waiting in traffic or at the traffic lights in order to rest the clutch, as I would also do with a manual Gearbox, change oil and filters twice a year etc etc. The car demands respect and gasoline (though another car of mine "drinks" much more), but that is all. No problems whats-however. I do the correct maintenance, which is of course more expensive than with a normal car, and the M5 is just great. Not for every one I agree, it is a special car... when you change spark plugs there are 10 not 4 or 6, it needs 9 L oil from the finest...
I am long ago and still now strongly convinced that there is no other car with that power out of a natural aspirated engine with that marvelous build-quality.
    Cheeeeeers

My e63 m6 has got 159,000 Miles, Grey 2006 Model. OEM rod bearings, had the car since 2007.. not a single issue except for the time the throttle actuators went out, replaced them whilst had the warranty and that was in 2011. The car is absolutely fine, instead of 10w60 I’ve been using 5w50, and I drive it daily.
People don’t understand this car, majority treat it as if it’s a Toyota “yeah bro let me hit it hard whilst it’s cold nothing will happen”, if you don’t know how to own one, then don’t get it mate.. don’t blame the car for your atrocious ownership.
This rod bearing thing is too exaggerated, take care of it and it will keep going.

You didn't even get to the real problems! The throttle actuators fail and are a little pricey. The dealer always seems to think a new battery for $500 will solve all of your problems. @@banditY2K Car with 40,000 on it, wow. I hope you bit their arm off at the shoulder. Don't believe this OP video drama queen. I've had one for 4 years now and none of the specifics he has mentioned has been an issue. Drove 8 others before getting this one and ditto. That's not to say that a 200mph car does not need TLC.
1 IDC idle control valves one went at 60k and the second was replaced at 95k when the throttle actuators caused all the fairy lights to come on. I can't complain cos I was on track and the instructor kept telling me to go faster. Oh yes and an M5 on restricted power will still cruise at 110, giggle.
2 Oil cooler - had that replaced as a precaution while it was in the shop
3 Hydromotor at 100k I had it on my drive and went to move it and it was locked in gear. Motor had seized and blew a 40Amp fuse. Master tech changed it and the special fluid that was black. Al fine now - well as fine as it ever was.
4 AGM battery - Mine lasted 11 years and was only killed by the two trackers fitted one of which went bananas.
5 SOS failure - bluetooth module goes flaky meaning you can't take or make phone calls.
6 Yes, it consumes a lot of oil but only above 4,000 rpm. Just carry a litre of Castrol 5W-60 with you at all times. Oil tests, hmm. Just change it when OBC says its time is up. Depends on usage max 2 years.
7 Yes, it is thirsty. Oh FFS it is a 5 litre v10 with a 8,200 red line. It sounds so good that you won't care. 99RON from Shell every time. Sometimes I go to same garage to fill up twice in same day.
8 Seat thigh support cogs - just replace the cogs - no Biggy
9 Active seats - If not working pull the back off and check the connectors down low next they can come apart I was lucky motors had not burnt out as that is expensive.
10 Windscreen if yours cracks be sure to get the condensation sensor replaced by BMW.
Yes, there is a big range in prices between a 100k example on trade in and a 50k example on a forecourt with a warranty.

Biggest issue when it comes to these models is the rod bearings, second would be the trans... other than that, it’s a great car.
..but those two things could cost around the same amount you paid for the damn car!
So when buying one, it’s best to have it checked out, VERY THOROUGHLY, or you could be literally throwing away 15-20k !
Cause... what are ya gonna’ do ? Buy the car and 20 months later pay almost the original cost AGAIN just to keep it running!??

No he didn't, you keep reading internet forums where human nature is to bitch about problems and very few seek-out a forum to tell of their no issue. This car is no different than any car with the power train that is within it. These cars are driven at peak by most drivers so to compare this against standard boring commuter cars is a joke. How many super-cars have you been around, how many at this level have extreme maintenance protocols? Sure there are wear components that need replacement and more frequent than a car driven at normal use. These cars are never driven at normal use hence they require greater maintenance. Why does the suspension wear, please tell of a Honda that weights 4,000#'s and goes into a corner approaching 1G and will not need heavy maintenance? Your conclusions are hyperbole and any car at this level with a high strung power train the weak of heart should absolutely stay away from, but for the few that understand the nature of cars at this level they will enjoy immensely as do those that pay for super-car level maintenance.

What will u get If you purchase this vehicle: 1) Endless acceleration 2) 200mph top speed 3) beautiful sounding engine/exhaust 4) very very very bad fuel economy 5) expensive insurance 6) expensive premium cost of parts 7) reliability issues 8) expensive repairs 9) expensive tyres 10) stress/fear of something really expensive needing repairing 11) outdated cockpit technology 12) expensive road tax 13) oil leaks..... I’d rather buy a newer less expensive vehicle to run! Let’s face it, unless u live in Saudi Arabia (where petrol is about 5 cent a litre), it’ll be hard to maintain running costs!

You are strictly going on what the whiners tell you, cars, like any that have been neglected, wait 'till shit breaks and then piss and whine to a mechanic or online about a car they did no service on whatsoever. Rod bearings? It's because idiots don't let the engine warm up properly, SMG? Have it "flushed" every 30K miles, etc, on and on. It is ALL about maintenance, peroid

      We are not brave.
We are just a genuine car lover.
      E60 m5:
      • fix vanos leak
      • replace rod bearings
      • replace throttle actuators
      • replace smg hydraulic pump
      Done!
      S85 is a great engine.
Even m156s have problems like head bolts, cam adjuster plates, valve buckets etc... but this engine, although being the first truly AMG developed engine, isn't unique... it was used even upto the sls.
      But s85 is the last n/a v10.
      Enough said.
The real problem is finding a truly late model in good condition... (~2010 model e60 with good options)
Got nothing to do with being brave.
      We genuinely love cars.
Now, an s85 in an e9 with reinforced chassis with manual gearbox... now, that is pure sex. (But I bet you don't even know what an e9 is... lol)

There hundreds of videos of the M5 E60 engine declared as total f*** up by owners and other youtubers. You speak to BMW mechanics and ask them for the M5 E60 that you want to purchase one: they will tell you you are mad to buy one. This car is great, if kept in the garage 80% of the time. They took an F1 base engine and use on a family sedan and the wrong transmission.

      That's you.
You and your factory warranties & "BMW" mechanics etc 🤣🤣🤣
I didn't even have to point it out.
You proved who you are haha
No wonder you're getting so much hate.
It's you against the world, ain't it?
You're right, and everybody is wrong. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
      What do you do?
      A mid-level accountant or something?
      (Probably not even that... 🤪🤪)
Good luck with life, loser. Lol

You know jack shit about the M5. Every car has its mechanical issues after a certain mileage. Some cost more to repair, and some cost less. I had a 2000 Bmw 3 series sedan a while back and I spent around $2500 on a few parts because it had a high mileage..
