The pain of ownership only adds to the pleasure of that insane no exhaust V10 roar!
I have one. No it doesn’t
He just bought a crap car, that’s not how the bottom of a normal e60 m5 looks like
@@TheChris91173 stop the cap
@@satvikarora5813i do have to agree, never left us stranded, always worked. Only problems are the coils
@@tinorosmg9374while it is true, bmws are never known to be reliable and because it’s a M5 V10, maintenance and repairs are an issue and it’s unreasonably expensive
"Took the car out to make sure it's fine."
*Redline pulls in every gear*
"For some reason it broke again."
LOL :)
**Secretly wanting it to break again so I can get more views**
I don't think that would have been the problem as it is designed to go at redlines.
The v10 should be revved high once warmed up it’s what they’re built for and can be beneficial
it's an M car, brother; once it's warm you should be able to thrash it like you are racing for the CUP without failure. Not saying you should ever hit potholes or drive without sense, simply you can do whatever you want with the pedals + wheel on flat and level tarmac. This transmission is designed to shift hard and fast, make you say "holy shit I cant believe that didn't break something" right as it changes up and does the bang again. The science behind how that NA v10 M5 is fast without massive torque is a function of this.
@@fry.master oh I fully get it. I'm an M car owner, and love to open the thing up where I can.
never have I seen someone so happy and full of fun when working on a car. especially this ticking time bomb. good for you to be able to do this! your videos are awesome.
Gotta make the best out of a crappy situation!
Never meet your heroes lmfao. I love the idea of this car but I need Elon Musk money to own one of these
Nah. You just need to learn how to work on vehicles
@@radianm6that doesn’t change the fact that they’re pretty expensive and hard to fix lol. this is a racing V10 paired to a complex transmission that a lot of people still haven’t figured out, not the usual civic
@@iiplaya I feel ya. It just saves a lot doing your own work
I have an X5 m and it's sick AF. Go buy one, this is a clunker
Buy one with the manual. The is 90 percent of issues
The previous owners obviously abused and neglected it.
The underneath was a state, all the under trays and heat shielding all loose and rattling around.
Give it the love and attention it deserves
In all honesty, I couldn't wait for you to post E60 content. I've had two (2006 530xi and a clapped 2007 550i M Sport). I still have my 530xi, but after I bought the 550i with a broken engine, it was a pain to get the transmission issue sorted on it. After two years of ownership and a whole year of it sitting with my mechanic, I decided to sell and it was one of the best car decisions ever! I look forward to seeing more videos on this car.
As a fellow E60 Owner I always get goosebumps when you insert the BMW Check Engine Sound as a censor 😂
As an E92 owner that sound meant one of two things: windscreen washer low OR you've blown another damn tyre. I hate that 'bong' noise.
Got me re-thinking selling mine lol. It's incredible, though, that this car's lasted 170K miles.
Sreten made a wiring loom repair to a E70 headlight by covering every single wire with heat shrink. It might have worked with that SMG wiring loom also.
V10 straight piped - my headphones probably dont do justice - wud have to be there inna real life -that sound was surely amazing 🙌🏼
Had one for 5 years , it’s been brilliant….. the secret being “ preventative maintenance “ and purchase one that’s got full BMW service history or BMW specialist not a lemon that’s been thrashed and abused , it’s the same story with all high performance cars. 🇬🇧👍
Back in the day, I looked at a used Manual M3 convertible. I didn't love the manual. So I tried an SMG. That sucked too. The top dog of BMW at the time could have put in a dual clutch, but he thought we would prefer the SMG!
Gotta love the E60 M5 super underrated
Honestly that topdon scanner is a steal, $1k for all of that.
My pump/reservoir has been leaking a bit, I think I’m go ahead and replace the pump to the MLR one, seems like a good unit.
Perfect time to refresh the unit.
Aweome machine, the moment you take it out for a drive after fixing it, all the headaches go down the sink. Super cool car, keep up the good work mate.
Hi- Brilliant videos on the E60 M5! I have a few questions : Once you changed the Hydraulic pump, seal etc and refitted the unit back and filled the reservoir with Hydraulic fluid, How did you bleed the systems ? Through the software or manually? And did you do this before carrying out adaptation of the gears ? Is the a set procedure to refitting and bleeding? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks
OMG that V10 NOISE! I'm in love ❤
i would recommend that Vehicle Virals gets in concact with "M539 Restorations". the guy has fully serviced an E60 M5 and could give you probably some very good tips around the E60 M5
The E60 M5 is the only car I classify as a very beautiful looking nightmare. It's interior is very comfortable and exterior are very nice looking plus it's 5.0 liter V10 sounds amazing, but that is where it ends.
When you said it’s now stuck in 5th gear, I honestly laughed out loud. Those cars are a frigen mess. Good luck man lol
I’m surprised Christian did all this and didn’t go straight to manual swap 😆
I saw someone at work had one of these and just thought, oof if my E90 has been tough to maintain, I can't imagine what it's like for one of those.
U really help us the viewers out can u buy 2014-2016 e63s amg next just bought 1 and u seem 2 point out all failure points
Great information so when I do get an e60 m5 myself, I will know what to look for with problems. Thank you!!
Please keep this m5 love content on these cars
Makes me wish I had never sold my manual E60 M5. Hell of an engine note they make.
All the transmission issues. Fixed. Now time for Rod Bearings chachacha🎉🎉
Yup that seal kit should fix it with all the other goodies.. and if all that doesnt fix it then its the transmission
The smg is badass when it’s working
Tremendous driving in this vid by Aaly. He and Cristian are an awesome team!
That bridge over semoran is the best to go WOT 😂 risky to do pulls without radar tho
naa bro :( and its such a good car, lol my N54 just hit 110k miles and my radiator went, then my ac went, and now somethings goin on with my shocks or exhaust, get a BMW they said, it'll be fun they said. and ur lucky you got a spot to work on the car at least, cause finding good euro shops in Orlando is rough...
Bring the car to us. We are in Orlando
Funny because my E60 530d has 316000km on the clock with no problems maintenance is key 🗝️
@@christohees9150530d is not the V10 lol
Yea Manual ONLY on these fantastic cars! But I'm gonna guess that you already were planning to swap it even before you bought it LOL. AWESOME!!
Man that v10❤️🔥
Yeah that was dope so glad u got it working decently. Sounds insane
As incredible as the E60 M5 is, it is truly one of those cars you need to have the same amount in your budget for repairs and preventative maintenance as the purchase price of the car itself.
The guy that sold you this: "No takesies backsies!"
Wow that sound never gets old
This car reminds me of my 2012 EVO MR I dumped 30K in. Nothing but chasing gremlins for 2 years.
I'm glad you guys got it together I knew you would
Seems like we’re in the same boat I recently brought a 340i from a reputable dealership with a 3rd party warranty, had it shipped to my state and it lasted not even 2hrs now I’m looking at a $14,000 maintenance bill for a car I drove for at least 1hr
A B58 car? What happened to it
You make it look so easy, I got an e39 and I almost die 😂
Manual swap makes this car easier to live with based on E39Source
I guess the harness problem killed the ecu.
Quick question.
How did you bleed out the pressure before removing the entire pump?
Happy you guys got moving on this :)
You get a like for that defuse
fully disable TC and get another bar of shift speed :) should be good for chirping 3rd-4th now that your smg is fully operational. I loved my e60 m5, daily drive a manual n54 e90 now tho. The v10 was too thirsty for a daily...
BTW clean up that aero, take the top speed limiter off, and take this mf on a mexico run. You will be amazed how it just keeps pulling. I have full faith it would SMOKE a gen 3 5.0 above 160mph (but before that it would prob lose, 10 speed etc)
it might be cheap. But if you fix all the issues. Service all engine flaws. Its a bargain
Good luck with loops repair
Oh Getrag...you were so wonderful
I believe the fuse being broken is just because you did the adaptation so many times in a row
Really amazing video thank you it’s worth all the work
Loving this series a lot
Definitely need more M5 content!
You are singlehandedly depreciating the value of my M6 bro😂😂😂😂!! You kinda bought a turd, but keep making gr8 content. It'll be worth the work and $.
A DCT swap is gonna be crazyyyy
I just got the bmw after drive home engine has rod knock.
Rod bearings next
Nice video, love this car. What camera do u use
A7C
The E60 M5 is among the worst bmw has ever created. There is a reason why you find them so cheap lol. And this is a video that is a great example of why throwing parts are an issue isn't always the best way to go but we all start from there. 2000's are probably one of the most fun years for bmw but the worst because of these little problems.
Great video car is in the right hands 👍🏾
There's a reason you don't see a lot of old BMWs on the road
"Cheap" and V10 never go hand in hand.
bro slam the smg to the streets and do a manual swap. its suits the car way better and its unique because only 20k exemplars were made
Y’all should put an ess supercharger on it that would be crazy
What do you expect from buying an M5? to fix it as a corolla, that performance is equal to an expensive maintenance even if the car was sold cheap, it is not a cheap car.
might be a money pit, but at least it's a fun money pit
I know with low pressure its the valves that need replacing brotha in the pump
Can you explain more please ?
The solenoids seal kit to help the smg pump
I want to buy one now
Yo I’m actually traumatized by
The BMW gong
You say the cheapest but how much did you pay for why haven't you mentioned that
Never said the cheapest.
WOW.. What a Pain in the Ass. I felt your pain all the way in Cali.. Glad you and aly got it to work
why buy a broken m5 and spend a lot of money on repairs when you can buy a working one for the same money you spend on repairs and enjoy it right away
Raffle the wide body
Yessir happy for you my guy
Legend, now mod the shit out of it 🙏
Sounds line a bad ground my guy buy a new engine harness maybe and not talking about a bad battery ground i mean on ur harness ground
bad smg pump
I don't know why people mess with this chassis probably the worst BMW ever made interns of reliability
There are two types of BMW owners. These are the 2nd kind 😄
find the side panel!!!!!!! money
It's sad to see the the previous owners fucked up this legend but knowing you you'll give this legend a second life
It really doesn’t take much. Cars 16 years old
It's literally why BMWs have a bad rep. They get treated poorly, and then sold to someone else.
@@SupraSav Part ownership handled poorly and part MFR not building to be reliable past 100k miles or 10+ years. BMW really can make reliable cars, they just do not want to. This 16 year old BMW with V10 already has wire insulation issues on its harness to the SMG yet the Z3 can be reliable (albeit hoses, maintenance, belt components) even after 20 years. Then the Z4 came out and started using parts bin where the car literally falls apart after 6 years.
You can literally change everything on these m5's and the car will shit itself in the next 3K miles...e60 m5 is a very cool looking and sounding car but they are absolute garbage.
@@SupraSav Thats a lie. BMW's used to have great rep at one point then they started making shity cars. Only fanboys think that spending 5-10k a year on a car on "maintenance" is acceptable.
That's why I'm a Subscriber, to feel your pain and to learn stuff. There's not much to learn from someone doing dyno pulls and burnouts in brand new cars. Loved this series.
My friend owns one. Only seen him driving it twice in 3 years of ownership. Currently parked by the road with the for sale sign on it. Possibly could be the worst car of all time in terms of reliability
That's rough.
Did he buy it used or new?
The manuals are hella reliable smg is garbage. I have a dct e92 m3 which is awesome
@@startingtech3900 Okay, now what about the unreliable engine and electrics?
Have all his window regulators broken 2 times?
Using liquid electrical tape on those bare wires is a better option than tape. The headlight bulb wires will crack in the same manner on the e60 so check those too.
Honestly, it was just a temp solution to troubleshoot. Will replace the harness with the MLR one.
Yes those darn headlights, had to rewire my headlights a few years ago
Yes this is accurate e60 headlight bulb wires crack and decay it sucks
@@alottathat1017 thats on all BMWs, my E46 need the turn signal harness changed on all 4 corners
Bmw e60 m5 is my dream 4 door car, would spend every penny on it just to fix it
We want more E60 M5 content 😅🙌
Sad to see it’s a money pit, but more content at least? ❤
I think the Manual conversion would benefit you 😅
Every BMW fan on forums: "Relax, E60 is reliable like a toyota. Just do regular oil changes and it'll last forever. "
Such a great video. Just finished watching the whole thing and I am very satisfied, cannot wait for the next episode!
That's what I want to hear 👊🏼
10:06 The experience a car like this gives, makes you think that it is meant to not be easy to reach. As if you are cheating if you get this for no effort ($). Glad to see it back on its feet. 👍
The experience was 10x more rewarding because we had to work for it. Felt amazing!
@@VehicleVirals100%! Also It's not like the car will need this on a regular basis, when being properly taking care of.
I have a 2009, just passed 19k miles on it. Was planning for Eisenmann/Carbon Airbox this year, but I wanna see what you do to yours.🤘
M539 Restorations has some great video's on the E60 M5 highly recommend them
I love his alpina b7 videos! So helpful when I was fixing my 7 series
So glad my bud has a manual. I hope he never sells it, because i would buy it 😂
Heard nothing but horror stories about this car. My boy left the Mopar life for one. He ended up going right back into an SS. We did warn him so...
Please make more content on this car. Idc I’m going to own one and I need to know what I’m getting myself into. Plus I also want that f10 🥵
The car is fun concept but too fragile.
Good job on working on it and figuring it out.
I'd say the faulty wiring caused a short and cooked/corrupted the SMG module, good to see that V10 roaring away happily, enjoy!!
99% of the owners I’ve met in my life of e60 m5s bought them knowing the issues and still found it worth it for the experience most of them had.
If you buy one just have money to fix it. A rare and special car that will probably never be made again or like it . For a generation for a class for a time that car is iconic. I hate the looks and interior of it but that sound is just the best.
I’ve owned e39 m5, e46 m3, e85 z4m, e36 m3 vert, e34 540i and m235i currently still own the m235i and looking at a e92 m3 weekend .
Bmws are so interactive and the peoples cars. It’s involved and the feel not much in the price range can compare. Porsche is the goal but bmw is the love still and will always be. A nice gt3 or gt4 Porsche
