As incredible as the E60 M5 is, it is truly one of those cars you need to have the same amount in your budget for repairs and preventative maintenance as the purchase price of the car itself.
There is a main set of cables that lead to the SMG. The insultation on the set that connect to the transmission typicaly corrode over time. Replace this and you have a high chance of being a happy man. It is best to replace it with some 12 gauge wire with thick insulation from the hardware store. Solder the new wires between both ends of the harness and use electrical tape then high temp cloth tape. Oh, and yes... You will have to drop your transmission about a foot to access these wires... Its a good single day's worth of work.... Oh look at that! A little over 12 minutes into the video and thats what you where working on.
I'm surprised at the condition of those wires on that harness and the fact that those wires crumble like that in that specific harness. I own two BMW's right now and both are older and one has been fully swapped out for another BMW (2002 330CI swapped out for the entire drive train and interior of a 2006 E46 M3) except the body. Meaning I have really worked on and wrenched on these BMW's for real and deep. As well I've owned a few others in my time and I have worked on them and done extensive repairs and mods etc. (Similar to you guys) Yet I've NEVER seen a BMW harness crap out like that! Of course it's totally possible that somehow BMW designed that one part and skimped on the wiring materials and none of the other major wiring parts of the car or wiring in any of the other models of those years. But I HIGHLY HIGHLY DOUBT IT. I say it was contracted out by BMW and made by a THIRD PARTY MANUFACTURER. But I could be wrong of course.
You replaced the wrong relay. The relay is black for the smg pump not orange fuse. Always when replacing smg pump is to replace the black relay next to the orange fuse in the engine box. You don’t have to get the same part number for the transmission TCU. All of the e60 m5 or m6 TCU work’s interchangeably but you must do clutch, transmission adaptation
Its happy to see somebody who is putting so much effort to rebuild a car like that, but at the same time sad for the owner before you, he didn't gives a fuck about the car, and all the stuff about maintenance, m5 e60 also one of my dream cars, and looking at your videos you made about it, it seems you care a lot, keep going, the final results gonna be a beast🤙💪
You're blowing the 40amp fuse because your actual SMG pump is no good. The motor is working hard as hell, but makes no pressure because the pump itself that builds pressure is shot. You either need to rebuild that entire unit, or buy a new/rebuilt one. Should have just got the entire new pump from MLReng. I did the same by just getting the motor and accumulator from MLR for my SMG ran fine for a hour, then pump starting making crazy knocking noises and eventually starting smelling like electrical fire......... go through the entire system and get new everything.
I'll tell anyone that these cars are great & have awesome power & speed but anytime you own any of the Bmw- m, Audi S or Rs, Mercedes AMG, or even Volvo polestar unless you have the cash to put out they should constantly be kept under warranty period.
I got scammed on an E60 550i two years ago...oil and coolant leaks everywhere. Name names. My seller was Ryan Talley(whacker) in Overland Park ks. $7-8k later I have a nice old BMW after the $6k purchase price. Nobody should be buying these cars man...

V10 straight piped - my headphones probably dont do justice - wud have to be there inna real life -that sound was surely amazing 🙌🏼
nah that shift at 10:58 LOL
Cracked me in 5 places 😂
Definitely my next buy. I just upgraded from a pre facelift e60 525i to a facelift 535i just love to e60 so much
You know what it makes me kinda want this car... That sounds absolutely gorgeous......
Sorry for the uphill battle with this, but to ultimately pull away and all that work not being in vain, 👌🏽 great job
We know which one is the relay 😂😂😂
Its happy to see somebody who is putting so much effort to rebuild a car like that, but at the same time sad for the owner before you, he didn't gives a fuck about the car, and all the stuff about maintenance, m5 e60 also one of my dream cars, and looking at your videos you made about it, it seems you care a lot, keep going, the final results gonna be a beast🤙💪
Great information so when I do get an e60 m5 myself, I will know what to look for with problems. Thank you!!
Please keep this m5 love content on these cars
That sound is absolutely ridiculous. I've never thought about buying one but it seems worth it only for that!
Happy you guys got moving on this :)
Yeah that was dope so glad u got it working decently. Sounds insane
I'm glad you guys got it together I knew you would
Makes me wish I had never sold my manual E60 M5. Hell of an engine note they make.
Simply the best BMW content on UA-cam!!!
For any bmw work i would use ISTA 100 %
Yup that seal kit should fix it with all the other goodies.. and if all that doesnt fix it then its the transmission
Did you watch the entire video?
this is the best series yet. Love it! keep going!
OMG that V10 NOISE! I'm in love ❤
seen this on the road the other day. u got this brotha keep working at it
Fuel injector can kill the motor , check your cylinder for scoring.
Tremendous driving in this vid by Aaly. He and Cristian are an awesome team!
When you said it’s now stuck in 5th gear, I honestly laughed out loud. Those cars are a frigen mess. Good luck man lol
I knew you guys would get it sorted out. Great content. Keep it coming.
All the transmission issues. Fixed. Now time for Rod Bearings chachacha🎉🎉
So glad my bud has a manual. I hope he never sells it, because i would buy it 😂
I understand the car is problematic 😭but hear me out… that V10 sound alone is worth it😮💨😮💨😮💨🔥🔥🔥
Jesus Christ, that orange E46 is gorgeous
I'll tell anyone that these cars are great & have awesome power & speed but anytime you own any of the Bmw- m, Audi S or Rs, Mercedes AMG, or even Volvo polestar unless you have the cash to put out they should constantly be kept under warranty period.
That is bad maintenance by the previous owner, it's BMW are service and maintenan these cars will work fine.
I saw someone at work had one of these and just thought, oof if my E90 has been tough to maintain, I can't imagine what it's like for one of those.
Gintani TUNE WHEN ITS READY!!!!!
I got scammed on an E60 550i two years ago...oil and coolant leaks everywhere. Name names. My seller was Ryan Talley(whacker) in Overland Park ks. $7-8k later I have a nice old BMW after the $6k purchase price. Nobody should be buying these cars man...
This is an awesome series. So far, I'm learning a lot
because no fluid harness overheated and melted, that wires touching killed module and relay probably bcs of short
naa bro :( and its such a good car, lol my N54 just hit 110k miles and my radiator went, then my ac went, and now somethings goin on with my shocks or exhaust, get a BMW they said, it'll be fun they said. and ur lucky you got a spot to work on the car at least, cause finding good euro shops in Orlando is rough...
Bring the car to us. We are in Orlando
Funny because my E60 530d has 316000km on the clock with no problems maintenance is key 🗝️
Wow that sound never gets old
Man that v10❤️🔥
The lack of a spin on the bomb diffuse was disrespectful
good luck my g
