Been there, done that. And I thought I was clever.
Straight to a Honda dealership is what he said. He had enough.

LeadBlastin22 Great point!

Somebody's gotta do it
It's not really about that for me. Buying a used V12 Merc for five grand and spending another ten or twenty in repairs still means he's getting an S Class less than 10% of what it originally cost. It let's you know what you're in for if you actually want to buy one of these once amazing cars.
If you're a total petrolhead and not a dealer it makes sense.
It's sad that nobody is able to censor these channels based on click-bait, on the back of car makers, mobile phone companies..
THe one who sold you his BMW probably laughed so hard

Working ones with the same mileage can still go for 11,000 and up. Seeing as he got this for 6,500 really isnt too bad.
you can sell this a part and you will get much more money
Lol the engine alone is worth $6k
@Midousuji Akira check eBay have fun. It's a racing derived v10 not just some engine.... apply your logic to a 13 year old or collector's car doesn't work lmao

OMG when I turned the video on and saw Doug I thought I clicked the wrong vid xD
I would fix the oil cooler. Change the front tyres, then a fresh battery, check the grounds and then clear all the codes. Then take it for a decent drive and then re-check the codes. More than half will most likely be gone as many are just triggered by other issues. It helps narrow things down.

I have a 33k mile SMG trans for sale from a running/driving 2008 M5 that will be getting pulled out in a month if you need it. I bought the car to steal the engine and swap it into my E46, so everything else is getting parted out/sold.
Somehow I feel your transmission is going to cost more than what Hoovie paid for this car. :D (doesn’t hurt trying to sell it, especially to Hoovie, though.
@@rkan2 nah, the going rate for a decent mileage DCT is like 3k and i only paid 7k for my donor car for this swap, so my plan was to firesale the diff/rear end, EDC suspension, remaining good panels/hood, the SMG, brakes, etc. That should pay for the 7k that I fronted for the donor car and make it a break even. Probably gonna try to get like 2k for the SMG which is a stellar price i think for a functioning complete trans with 33k miles.
You are aware of the process you're putting yourself into right? It's been done before, but there is a TON of editing required to make it happen
@@NoShaDow36 Pretty sure he is if he already has a donor car.
@@NoShaDow36 for sure. I'm working with a shop with a fabricator, good wiring guy, etc., I've talked to Epic Motorsports at length as they have done a couple S85 swaps into E46 M3 before. Stock headers fit, minor modification to the subframe and with a 2008 M5 the CAS isn't in the steering column so you can do the swap while retaining the stock E46 rack which makes it immensely easier. Custom power steering lines, custom oil cooler, custom radiator, making a dipstick - yea there are some things there to deal with but we are planning it all out. I'm bolting up an E90 6mt and already have a driveshaft which my fabricator can cut and use to hook it up to the E46 diff. You do this swap by bringing along the E60 ECU for the ride so it isn't some standalone setup which makes it a hell of a lot easier to wire things. Epic Motorsports provides the flash for it already you just ship them the ECU and as long as the wiring guy does his job of making it work with the CEL in the dash, etc. it will work.
I haven't haphazardly jumped into it and at 7k for the car which runs and drives, if we lay everything out in a month and decide it will actually be too much, well I can sell a used 33k mile S85 for 10k all day just by itself so I'm not losing anything. This is also my 4th car so time isn't really a factor. I've got a supercharged E92 m3 to tool around with in the meantime.
Classic modern mechanic... Plugs in a diagnostic computer. Doesn't really know what any of it means and then owner googles the solutions. I see this in every single UK garage nowadays.
the problem in uk is that the garages are very small, not longer that 4,7meters, garages don't have such things like canal and you can't fit car lift in there so there is no way to work on your car yourself. I've had to work in the open air to fix some stuff, sometimes in rain.
I'm pretty sure anyone can have their own size garage lol

I used to own a E39 M5, and owning a E60 M5 is surprisingly something I would like to own one day even with all the issues, but the V10 sounds so good. I think when i’m ready to own one i’ll try to find one for cheap and have the whole engine rebuilt, including Vanos and common rod bearing issues.
SMG is a problem in almost any BMW car. Not to mention that almost anyone who had the money to buy a M5 (or any other M car) factory new usually did not really care that much about longetivety and has beaten his car pretty much since money was not an issue. Later when it changes owner usually at some point the car will be owned by someone who is willing to take good care of the car but at that point the car is in such a bad condition it would cost so much it would not make much sense to do so. Economically. If you are an enthusiast then you do not look that much at that point but still.... my personal recommendation is to stick with a regular non M BMW where you can choose automatic or manual and be happy about it. If you really wanna go for a M car, then only manual. You will still get a lot to maintain but it will stay within a reasonable pricetag value. For example a proper maintained E39 540i with full sport suspension, features and extras and you do not need a M5 unless you really want to. Nevertheless do not buy any M car without someone at your side who understands that sort of car to give you a deeper opinion before buying one even when it means to pay that someone a few bucks for his time.
An additional 7 to 11 grand and you’ll have yourself a kickass car for at least a week or two until something else breaks again. Sounds like a deal.

they did this when the car was new: www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2007-audi-s6-vs-bmw-m5-m-b-e63-amg-comparison-test
the real irony is the bmw came in last back then, before they even knew how much more unreliable it was than the cars that beat it.
yjhuoh The Audi beat the M5 overall in test, but was so slow that they didn’t even both publishing its straight line 0-60 and quarter mile figures... the Audi’s motor is down on power, suffers higher drivetrain losses, and shifts through a slower box.
A well-sorted E60 M5 SMG will walk a V10 S6 by quite some margin in a straight line race.
www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/road-tests/reviews/a13037/2007-audi-s6-1/
Here we go... R&T clocked a V10 S6 at a 5.1 0-60 and 13.5 @ 106.5 quarter mile - that’s waaaaay off the pace of an E60 M5
@@Gr0t0tter And so it should since the M5's true opponent from Audi is the C6 RS6. You may be right that the SMG is a bit faster but in the end of the day, I would still put my money on the ZF6 in the Audi since these transmissions usually last longer than the cars themselves.

@@jordancabral1003 Rod Bearings, Vanos. Skip an SMG, use the right oil and let it warm up before driving. It'll treat you like a king.
Gota say Hoovie this colour has aged really well. This M5 is a beauty. Good the rewatch the old videos. Hope you’re doing ok 🍻
I have a 2010 m5. The oil cooler broke on mine also. I caught it before I drove it with not enough oil. Thank God. The bill at BMW dealer for new oil pump and I was due for oil change which cost 275 .the total bill was $1850. I love the car. I have 72000 miles on it now. Bought it at 58k miles
