The M5 is like marrying a beautiful woman whose last 2 husbands died mysterious deaths. Could be nothing.... could be the worst decision you ever make. Exciting though.
damn i like that
LOL as an owner of one I can agree with this statement lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂☝🏻☝🏻
Own a M6 2008 for 4 years, very reliable. Changed rod bearings paid 1500 USD at ess and regular oil changes etc and no issues at all. My C6 corvette was much more of a headache by all means and refinment on the BMW is on another level. Its simple to visualize why its a good buy, you pay 25k for one low mileage, drop 5 k on preventive maintenance total 30k, the cost of a brand new civic. That is bang for the buck, to many keyboard bullshiters. I also own a e92 m3 currently which is also criticized a lot and its a great car.
And owned an e46 m3 in the past, still miss it.
I took a "risk" 4 years ago. No major issues , mostly maintenance stuff. 40k special miles later all I can say about reliability is that the haters that never owned one will always be "experts"....
Unless you've been involved with one of these things, it is impossible to know just how special they are.
Only the most discerning of enthusiasts will understand why this particular car is such a phenomenon.
Living with the E60 M5 is as much a relationship as it is ownership.
And the older she gets, the better looking she will become.
What did BMW think when they sold the manual variant in the only country that less then 5% of the population even saw a manual in their life.
So people who can drive manual has to suffer and not have the option ? Lol
5% of the US population if still over 16,000,000 people. That's more people than cars sold by BMW globally in 6 years. But really, it's not about the number of people who can drive, it's about number of people who actually buy the product. BMW sells big numbers of of "M" cars in the US, and, despite the relatively small percentage of the population who actually buys manuals, they have relatively high number manual buyer in this market. Of course they would offer the manual to us.
Most people who I know, know how to drive manual even though they drive auto and don’t own manual. I don’t have manual but I have experience with many manual cars and motocycles, sometimes judging book by its cover doesn’t work
"Maybe they don't destroy it when it's harder to drive.."
@Andrew Ball i havent read a more nonsensical comment yet :/ u made no point
Being a former owner of the E60 M5 with a $11k check engine light, I still think it is the greatest BMW ever made
They couldn't get a V10 right if it has a $11k check engine light. Biggest pile of shit
@@iluvmyeski Stick to your keyboard bitch...V10 isn't for you.
@@Biggus_Dickus_69 Exactly. People run their mouths about this car that have never owned one.
@@Biggus_Dickus_69 youre right.. its not for me. Its garbage
@@iluvmyeski 😂 that's why you drive a piece of shit Camaro. Foh.
By far the coolest M car ever made! And it sounds amazing! That V10 is a real screamer. I’m a fanatic Merc guy, but E60 M5 turns my head.
@OJDUDE I will install this V10 engine in my E39 540I
It will be breaking all the time
@@crxracer805 Well mainteined V10 is reliable if you warm it befor race and change oil after 5 tys km's. People doing in this cars 1200 hp and 1850 hp and engine works
@@crxracer805 There's an s85 with turbos out there running 1900 HP. lol Of course not on stock internals ,but the s85 platform can be pretty reliable. it just needs some understanding. This engine runs thick oil and it needs time to properly reach operating temperature before pushing and revving like an inglorious bastard.
@OJDUDE did the e46 have a fucking v10 or went 207mph you duck?
I'm honestly VERY tempted to get one of these cars. The rod bearing issue doesn't sound bad as long as you take care of it.
I've owned dozens of BMW's over the last 25 years, you either get a good one or a bad one. I had ones where the window and door actuators broke all the time and others where I never had a problem. You'll know in a few months if she is a good one or bad one
Maybe the bad ones where built by piss heads with hangovers. Be interesting to find out what causes these variable manefestaions.
Yeah. My current one is a good one. I got lucky, it's an e90 328i , that n52 is really a gem. Bulletproof and smooth as silk. Not a super fast car but enough to be fun
I got an N54 535i E60 69k miles have had it since January haven’t had any issues 6k miles later
Jack Smith I have owned several BMW over the years, and you are absolutely right. Sometimes you get a good one and other times it’s a bad one!

Kalle Specki RIGHT!!!!! And sell the sorted and built Lexus LX470 for a crappy run down unreliable Hummer H2.....I beg to question his sanity now I really miss that M5
Super Dojo it makes me furious that he doesn’t do any research on the cars. People often tell him the solutions for problems in the comments but he doesn’t read it. He rather gets rid of the car with a massive loss and say it’s unfixable. He did that with the 850i for example.
Definitely add the facelift taillights in a future mod!

New M5s are faster, arguably 'better' cars. The E60 is the best, raw M5 that will ever see the light of day.

I agree with EVERYTHING you said. I had one. Legend of a V10. Sings like an F1. Not unreliable if maintained. Classic
I had an E60 535 in 2010. I still think it is the best looking 5 series ever made. There was no mistaking it for anything else. You instantly knew what it was, from a distance. Today's 5 series looks like a slightly larger 3 series. Not a bad thing, to be sure. Just not as distinctive.
Still think my E60 M5 was the best car I ever had.
I'm convinced that mine is the best car I'll ever have.
I just purchased my 4th one lol. It’s a love hate relationship but god damn when it runs it’s amazing and that’s while owning a Gtr and a hellcat charger. It’s such a special car.
Im from Germany and this is a dream Car for me! Because its a Manual and has comfortseats! U cant buy this in Germany. You have to buy a Manual Transmission in the us to have that Here. Also comfortseats are Not find in German m5 e60s. Thats my dreamconfig. Sorry for my english🤣
you could always do the m3 manual swap mine is smg but my mecanic have 2 m5 that where converted to manual
If you want to import one from usa how much will it cost you to convert everyrhing to euro standard and is it the same for all eu countries?
Dude your English is 100x better than most of the people I work with! 😂 And I agree with you
8:00 had the same problem with my E class. took it to a shop they adjusted the sunroof and its all good now. no wind noise.
2007 is a magical year for cars... just before the crash we had such bright dreams of v10s
Yea a lot of cars cheaped out after the big housing crash, I noticed many brands got REAL cheap for a long time.
The best sedan ever. I daily drive my 2010 M5 and I look forward to drive to work everyday.
Very informative video. I think I am going to need to experience the legend for my self!
I hear you my dude. I have been preaching this for some time. Small turbo engines, hybrids.....blah,blah,blah. I agree with you that these will be missed once they are gone. Thats why I have chosen to keep one of these around in my garage. Scotty who? LOL
Imagine if Mike's key malfunctioned and didn't open the trunk while he sat there 😂
...does it have a manual strap release...?
@@jamescraig4479 I'm pretty sure it does but just the picture of it seemed hilarious to me lol
The car came with a manual strap release mandated by law....fail comment. LOL XD
I have a 2010 M5 with the SMG and I love it. Yes, the ,mileage is laughable, but that v10 is just glorious when you run it through the gears. I plan on keeping mine indefinitely. Get the Blackstone oil analysis to monitor the engine internals, and switch to Liqui-moly oil. It seems to make the engine a tad smoother and the oil temps are a bit more controlled in mine. Again, great choice, nice example of an M5, and I hope you enjoy it for many years.
One of the fam members just recently took delivery of a brand new fully-loaded ‘19 M5 Competition. I like to think that vehicle is SPECTACULAR in every way!! It’s like a “two cars in one”! Has a lot of interesting and useful features to know and learn. Like most of the other supercar owners, this proud M5C owner has beautiful decent sized home with doubled plus one garage (triple garage) which made a world of difference in terms of the ez access and doin’ various projects (full detailing, accessories/parts install, hanging out, and etc...).
I’m obsessed with this car especially with a stick shift my dream car 💐👽
The key with these cars is regular driving and regular maintenance. Do both. It’ll cost you money. If you can’t afford either then don’t buy one. Mine is fine.
Nice car, but true nightmare regarding maintenance costs... faulty SMGs, rod bearings to be replaced every 80k + horrible fuel economy... but still a nice car (to own in "collection", because it cannot be rather daily car).
Love the channel, for me the e39 M5 will always have a special place in my ❤️ ...enjoy your new ride!!

Agreed! My 2006 smg saloon is the best vehicle I have ever owned, indeed THE ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE,it’s a work of powerful artistic genius! Thanks! M5 SMG,2006.
I drive a 2008 E60 550i and fell in love with it the first time I drove it. Super fun car to drive. Its had its fair share of problems however I cant see myself getting rid of it. Unless it's for a E60 M5 lol
Learned the whole I drive on the way home from the dealer which was within 10mins.The best ever✌️
E60 M5 was actually made for the DCT transmission, which they decided to use for the following generation. BMW has been ahead of the game for a hot minute.
Two open air filters on those intakes would sound awesome!!! And only loud under load.
e60 m5 six speed manual will do atleast 320kph speedo indicated once you have it derestricted. Can vouch for that after having done it this past summer on the autobahn, it was still pullin hard even then but I had to lift off. Epic beast for sure!
It’s a “visceral driving experience”.
As unique as the E60 M5 is, my personal favorite BMW is the E46 M3, I love the timeless design, inside and out, but what I really love about it, is the 3.2liter N/A In-line 6 motor, the rich, raw, and metallic sound of that engine is just😍🥵
Audi actually made a 06 RS6 Twin Turbo V10 wagon, and it was the most powerful Audi they produced up to that time. But it was for the Euro market only! It was a bad ass car!!
It’s such a gorgeous machine this is probably my most favorite car you’ve ever had :)
I absolutely love these cars. I have a 550i m sport 2008. Very very nice car. Not an m5 but i love my car. The interior and exterior is all the same. Mine have updates being a 2008 especially the interior, i just noticed this watching your video.
I have to agree with Mike. I'm old school and love those power engine gas cars. However, the future brings many changes in the automobile industry. V10, V8 and even V6 will eventually be a thing of the past. So let's enjoy them while we still have them.
You are sooo right when you talk about the feeling you get driving these cars,, a good friend of mine is a BMW tech, he gets to drive every car from new and he said if you want a real drivers car, and you can afford to fix it, by an e60 m5, you wont be disapointed, im saving up to fix mine at the moment and am looking for a loan shark who will take a limb, or a kidney, i miss it sooo much.😭
Excellent video and well balanced representation. I have a 2006 E60 M5 and it is a pure driving experience. Truly unique.

If you wanna get gas, fill up the fuel tank first, then you can go to the gas station and get gas. #V10
I feel like that is the most beautiful car ever made.
The best sports sedan that was ever produced, because of its naturally aspirated v10.
I love it, but the E61 M5 was even cooler because of its rarity❤️
Great and very informative video Mike 😀😀👍👍
You dont have to stick the key in to start the car. The car can be started with the key present in the car.
Hurry up with that exhaust!! Love it.
Loved your review man. Manual is the way to go!!
Ugliest??? Seriously? When e60 came out that time, I think it is fucking beautiful and stylish
The E60 ist one of the best looking cars ever made. If you look at a Mercedes or Audi from that time, they look horrendously outdated, but an E60 looks fresh and modern today and will do so another 20 years from now.
Not everyone buddy, I love that car, I'm planing to trade in my 2012 s4 for a 2008 m5.
Hope it goes well for you. I'll be jealous haha.
Don’t keep the build modest. Go full out. You’ve got great taste. Your C63 and F12 are gorgeous and still look clean. Exhaust, coil overs, and some Velos wheels should all be standard for this build. Modesty is not why we come to this channel. That’s for the birds and the rest of us common folk.
Definitely a nice car, Mike. I just hope you don't spend more in repairs than the car cost to buy 🚗😂

@@saidzueke4782 yeah right buddy lol
If you're a poor kid don't buy it, if you know what BMW is go for it, this car is great but not for someone who buys all the parts on ebay not for dreamers with empty pockets, this car is for people who can take this baby to a real doctor a BMW clinic I'm talking about someone who can afford original parts, if you want to buy one and carfax is showing first four years of servicing by the BMW and another eight years is showing random shops than you're looking at the junk, if you're going to start fixing it with ebay parts you're going to make it a junk out of it. If you're a dreamer with empty pockets buy a Ford or Toyota and don't destroy these beautiful cars sweetheart, please stop crying like a little girl how many problems those cars have because it's simple it's too expensive for you to own it.
5.4 seconds is the current generation 3 series 4cyl 0-60 time. How times change.
@Martin Svensson uh, yeah. In reality. It has launch control and is pretty consistent.
Have you heard about the parable of the man who spent every penny he made and even went into severe crippling debt buying and keeping up with the maintenance of his e60 m5? Yes he worked 70 hours weeks in a hot factory breaking down his body day by day like a whip with pounding sounds of forklift beeps repetitively embedded into his head. All to keep up paying for the car at the end of the week he had nothing. Even had to spend 20$ a week on food because that’s all he could afford food also never bought a house couldn’t afford that had to sleep in the m5. What a life he lived. I could tell you even more
2nd best m5 ever made.
The 2021 bmw M5CS is not just the best M car of all time but literally one of the greatest cars ever built, so soo good.
The E60 m5 looks and sounds the best no doubt
You can launch a manual 👍 just hold foot in the clutch down. Then get rpms to about 5500. Don't be worried you won't spin. This car makes power from 5500 and up. So then let go of clutch smooth but quick and take off. Keep your hand on the shifter so you can go straight into second. You can get 4.3 4.2 in an e60 m5 manual. Done it.
13:45 Paranormal Activity sound fx kick in, the car's haunted man... My 1st and current BMW is a lowly 2006 320D at 250,000Km now after buying used at around 170,000Km and still pulls strong, handles better than any car I've ever owned and on the highway uses less than 5L/100Km (I can get a 600Km trip off less than 1/2 a tank with overtaking). I will drive it until it don't drive no more. Little things have broken and I fix 'em myself and keep up with oil changes etc. myself, people just complain about dealer prices. I think the '06 320D sits between models than have timing chain issues. Your M5 is awesome.
Mine is just shy of 109k miles, just had $2700 worth of trans work done, don’t care, still love it to death, currently have some 104 octane in it, she loves it😁
"they dont make cars like this anymore" well thank god, because its a pile of shit
You can update the navigation with BT included and add a backup camera . Operating temperature envelope is a seldom understood concept.
BMW can get you the dealer servicing record. Register your car with BMW USA first.
I like that M5 too.. Regardless of it's reputation..
I agree Mike on several counts/points you made. I hope as well they don't stop making aspirated engines to only make electric cars. Something about hearing the engine & exhaust. I agree with risk for the passion. Kudos for standing up against the No's like Scotty Kilmer ...
Nice car but I prefer the carbon roof M5 with the lighter body, makes a big difference to handing etc but each too there own imho
If you’re talking about the F90 it weighs 280lbs more than the E60.
Nice video! I always loved the M5 E60! It's so aggressive!!
Which exhaust are you taking? 😅😅
Send it to Troy Jeup if reliability ever becomes in an issue

Haven't seen your videos in months. This popped up on my Google feed. Glad to be back! I guess it showed up cus I love the E60 generation of the 5 series
Almost impossible to find this M5 in other color other than black factory.
I found one one of these in the same price of a new fully equipped 2019 Honda Accord in my country.
This is one of my dream car.
Mike make a video on what happens if you put into reverse while driving in your BMW E60 M5
It could be fun to set your Bmw m5 v10 against an Audi RS6 v10 to see the difference between these cars, engine sound, acceleration, quality, driving pleasure. It's an exciting and really good youtube channel you have sir.
If equipped with their inline 6 or a V8 engine, since when has BMW ever made a bad vehicle ???? Nice video, great car !!!
Nice to hear it’s working out okay with your M5. When we take the risk we are rewarded with the awesome driving experience. To timid ones there are Korean cars and soon Chinese cars
After a brief stint with an 08, I scurried back to the safety of an E39 M5. Appreciate the enthusiasm for the car in this video, and to own one I’d definitely follow the path of this owner in finding one that has proven provenance. You can still find them relatively cheaply, however cost of ownership was too much for me. Tires, fuel, anything you can think of is expensive here. Deep pockets is a must or the car will head into rapid decline. That plus the fact you can’t really use the power on American roads makes this car a curiosity at best. SMG is not fun after a while either, it becomes constantly annoying as you struggle to try to live with it. I’ve had 3 SMG’s. Good luck to E60 owner wallets!
Loved the video. I am literally waiting for my 2006 automatic M5 to roll down the auction block. Its gray and only 87K original Miles coming from WV. Happy, scared, and dying from anticipation.
‘Granny shifting, not double clutching like you should’.

The ever best is the M5 3,8 6speed Manual or Alpina B10 Biturbo E34
You can find out the service history from your local BMW dealership Mike. All of these information are centralised if you don't have the service book for the car
This car is why this channel will hit 1million subs. Well done. You don’t need a Ferrari to make content.
The E60 M5 may have a bad rep, but it's not alone. E90s were a mess. My 2008 335i had bad injectors, high pressure fuel pump, and water pump, all fail at under 36K. The injectors were notoriously bad for 2007 - 2009 I believe. My 2011 faired much better, all the way to 177K miles with a radiator and fuel pump my only significant repairs. My current 2018 340i M Sport has no issues thus far and I put a lot miles on my car. About 2500 miles per month.
5:15 How to fit golf bags. ROTFL as I'd not seen that before. I'm used to it sounding like a tractor when I start it, but get it on a track and one with a few crests it honestly makes me think it is going to take off. And it makes me a little bit scared in a way the e39 never could and the F10 and Panamera Turbo just won't. Awesome car and a keeper.
Mike, chuck the vbox and get a dragy and the dragy app. It's much more user friendly and you can compare times with other people around the world.
10:25 The gearing is indeed different, because it has a gear less. But as far as I know the 550i is a 4.8L engine and the M5 has a 5.0L. The thing, as far as I know, is that the amount of cylinders has no influence in the gearing and RPM, but displacement does. 200cc less shouldn't make that much of a difference I suppose. The M5 also has more torque and HP so it should handle other gearing easy.
It's the best one yes, people who talk shit have no idea and have never owned one.
My car didn't make a SINGLE problem since the 2 years I got it now, but I'm also an engineer and know how to treat my favorite car.
Your 6 speed will top out at 208 mph. tested my 08 one that has the limiter removed. The gearing is very well thought out in the 6 speed manual.
