Ultimate power ballad of the 80’s was Motley Crue - “Home Sweet Home”. MTV changed their countdown rules because it stayed on it so long. I sing it to my 6 year old daughter at bedtime every night.
@@cindysherf8818 have you. Watched the video yet? They talk about power ballads. That’s why I mentioned this one. I know “Knock ‘Em Dead Kid” isn’t one. Thanks though.
It's about the night bassist Nikki Sixx got into a fight with some bikers, and in the process mistakenly hit a cop and they beat him pretty bad.. "Dont go away mad just go away" ""Too young to fall in love"
It was about Nikki Sixx getting into a fight with uncover cops dressed as a motorcycle gang, he didn't fight with a real motorcycle gang. He got beat up pretty good by the cops.
"You're all I need" by Mötley Crüe is (in)arguably the most disturbing power ballad ever. It's written from the perspective of a guy in prison after having stabbed his girlfriend to death. Presumably written as an act of rebellion after their previous power ballad, "Home sweet home", had become such a huge mainstream hit and one of the greatest MTV phenomena ever. The jarring contrast between the chilling lyrics and the melancholy tones is absolutely stunning. I love it. One of THE highlights from the 1987 "Girls girls girls" album. And did MTV ban it? Of course they did!
Since that isn't an official music video, I don't think there is one, you would have been better off just listening to the song with a still image, instead of scenes from some movie that a fan put together. Anything off their first two albums is great. The third album sucks, but it gave them their power ballad, after that they were a pop/commercial band with some catchy riffs and fun tunes, but for me, I prefer the earlier Crue.
Some fan made this video. This is a song off 1983's 'Shout at the Devil' but it wasn't released as a single. Looks that kill & Too young to Fall in Love are the only 2 official video's made.
My absolute favorite album, before they got all commercialized and all. I got to meet them during the tour for this album. The guitar player i was in a band i was in knew the brother of the road manager and we got backstage passes. They were pretty intense and definitely had the rock star attitude. Awesome show.
Amber, You all have done "Home Sweet Home" by Crue. That was a power ballad. Go back and listen to it again!! I got into Motley Crue at 11 yrs old in 1983 with Shout At The Devil album. Like most people, we immediately delve back to their 1st album here that didn't get as much publicity at the time it came out.
Need some deep, deep cuts like Stick to your Guns, On With the Show, Take Me to the Top, All in the Name Of, Red Hot, and Dancing on Glass, to name a few.
Oddly enough Motley Crue are the band that really cemented the popularity of the power ballad, the success of "Home Sweet Home" had producers pretty much make including a ballad on every album mandatory.
You just can't go wrong with the "Shout at the Devil" album. Every song is wicked. I can count on my fingers the number of albums that are like this for me...AC/DC "Back in Black", Def Leppard "Pyromania", Scorpions "Love at First Sting" are just a couple of them that come to mind.
This is not an official Motely Crue video. Its a video comprised of movie clips from the film "Roadracers" with David Arquette. The official video is just the song with the front of the album it came from showing the entire song. This video is home made. Its a great song from the best time there was for MC music. Keep up the great options.
Closest Power Ballad you've heard from the CRUE was probably HOME SWEET HOME. JAY heard it 1st then Amber was introduced and both of you loved it. It was the one where Amber reached over and with her hand literally closed Jay's mouth which was hanging open. She even said " close your mouth". One of y'all's BEST REACTIONS. ❤️
I was 18 years old. I joined the navy to be a computer technician. We had to learn programming, I still don't know why. Long story short, my program was knock em dead kid. My instructor was a crue fan and absolutely loved it. Needless to say, I passed that class with flying colors.
Gotta hit some from the Too Fast For Love album. On With the Show, Merry Go Round, Come on and Dance, Piece of Your Action, along w the title track. All amazing and before Crue got glossy.
Motley Crue is the heaviest of the Hair Bands. Although they have a number of songs that fit the hair band mold, a lot of their songs such as this one are more metal. I saw the Crue and the Scorpions on the same bill back in the 90's. Great concert. Great review here today, I'm always happy to see you cover Motley Crue. You actually did listen to a Motley Crue ballad awhile back called "Home Sweet Home." If you are interested in hearing others try "Time for Change," or "Without You." If you'd like another heavy one try "Louder Than Hell." For a song that's a cross between a ballad and just a fun rock song try "Don't Go Away Mad." It could have been a ballad but the lyrics are too funny and tongue in cheek.
This album just turned 40 years old last week & it’s still killer back to front. Their first two albums, Too Fast For Love & Shout At The Devil, are by far their best!
It was awesome that the song is overlaid with the 1994 movie "Roadracers". The driving beat and riff of the music works well with the savage scenes in the movie.
The first two Motley Crue albums, Too Fast For Love and Shout At the Devil, are just raw! And then they sold out to the record company so their videos would get played in heavy rotation on MTV.
LOVE that y’all have represented the “Shout at the Devil” album y’all. Definitely they’re best & heaviest album. This is definitely my fav era of THE CRÜE….brings back some awesome memories 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Knock 'em dead kid is from the shout at the Devil Album from 1983 around this time of that year 40 years ago today guys. Knock 'em Dead Kid was one of the deep cuts of Motley Crue's Shout at the Devil Album. Next deep cut from Shout at the Devil that will leave you both shook would be God Bless the Children of the Beast/Helter-Skelter from Shout at the Devil Album as well. Or Ten Seconds to Love.
I bought Shout at the Devil when it was released. I was in 5th grade I believe. People nowadays talk about how "Crue was a big hair band back in the 80's right"? No.. They were THE big hair band of the 80's.
Home Sweet Home was their 1st ballad. It was because of that song (and Beth by KISS) being so hugely successful that record companies came up with the formula that every metal band had to follow from then on. The 1st single from an album would be heavy and then, to get radio play and women fans, the 2nd single would be a ballad. There were some bands that never wanted to write a ballad but every album had to have one because record executives smelled money.
*Old school Motley Crue is the best Motley Crue. But I gotta say, I've never understood the term "Hair Metal". Every kind of Metal back then was "hair metal" because everyone had big hair, long hair, and lots of it. Calling it Hair Metal was just to poke fun at the volume of hair back then. Then the name stuck as an actual style of music, replacing the term of 80's Rock/Metal.* 🤘
Oh, YES!!! Straight BANGER, here. I gotta suggest "Ten Seconds to Love", and "Don't Go Away Mad, (Just Go Away)". If you want a great power ballad from them, check out "Home Sweet Home", and "Without You".
Smoke The Sky, Uncle Jack and Misunderstood are must listen songs. Mötley Crüe had fired Vince Neil and brought in vocalist/rhythm guitarist John Corabi. It freed up Mick Mars to concentrate on the solos. His best guitar work in his Mötley Crüe years
I don't remember this being the original video for this song. I remember it being a studio/set video, which I liked better. I will have to check my Motley Crue VHS.
A few years after this came out, Vince Neil was involved in a drunk driving crash & his friend from the band Hanoi Rocks was killed. It was thought Vince would do serious jail time, but he got off with probation. The Crue stopped playing this song for years & years. Not sure if they ever played it live again.
Amber, that heavy guitar sound you talked about is probably do to guitarist Mick Marrs down tuning his guitar a full step to give it a heavier sound. All or almost all Crue songs are down tuned like that. Sorry to go nerdy on you.
On this day in 1985, Motley Crue released the single for HOME SWEET HOME. Believe it or not, when the band originally presented the song to their record label, they were told that they couldn't include it on Theatre of Pain. According to Nikki Sixx, the execs at Elektra said "This is horrible, and you have to take that song off the record. You guys aren't a ballad band." After Nikki threatened to take their business elsewhere, Elektra finally agreed to leave the song on the record, but refused to finance it as a single or a music video. Confident that it would be a hit, the band funded it and shot the video themselves. Shortly thereafter, it became one of the most successful music videos in history. In fact, it was so successful on MTV's daily request show (sitting at #1 for more than 3 months) that they had to invoke the unwritten "Crue Rule," in which videos would only be eligible on the request line for 30 days. Happy 35th anniversary to this timeless classic!
Motley Crue rocks! Crue Power Ballads are really good - "Home Sweet Home", "Without You". This song kicks ass! Love the Crue's early work and SHOUT AT THE DEVIL album is so good.
Wow you pulled a deep track, I am a Crue fan since they 83, I forgot about this track and did not even know they had a video with it. Power balled by Crue is Home Sweet Home, featuring Tommy Lee playing piano.
Ultimate power ballad of the 80’s was Motley Crue - “Home Sweet Home”. MTV changed their countdown rules because it stayed on it so long. I sing it to my 6 year old daughter at bedtime every night.
The Crue Rule. No video could be on the daily countdown for more than three months.
My favorite power ballad of all time and there are a lot of great ones.
This is not a power ballad

@@cindysherf8818 I was referring to "Home Sweet Home"
Mick Mars is the unsung hero of this band. His guitar always kills it.
100% his guitar was .. Motley Crue's sound . He can't be replaced

"Without You" is a power ballad by American heavy metal band Mötley Crüe.
It’s a disturbing song. Check the lyrics.
Can't go wrong with the Shout At The Devil album. Stacked from top to bottom
Still their best
It's really dark, aimed at the disillusioned 17 year old kid. Some of the lyrics are rather disturbing.
Yup. It all went downhill after Shout. Sure, they sold a ton of records, but the product was far inferior.
Far less *HARD*

Some of my fav Crue songs that you haven't done yet are "Helter Skelter", "To young to fall in love", and "10 seconds to love" 🤟😎
Helter Skelter was a great cove and so was Jail House Rock.
I heard Crue's cover of Helter Skelter first but was blown away by The Beatles original. It's more raw and heavy.
Louder than hell … old

Theatre of Pain,fucking rocks !!!

That video was added for the song. Not official video.
"If you needed somebody" by Bad Company. Studio version. The late Brian Howe's vocals are killer and the guitar solo cries!!!
There's a movie about the band out called The Dirt. You guys should check it out.

The other is "10 Seconds To Love"
This song was dedicated to Lita Ford by Motley Crue... She was pursuing her solo career from the Runaway's .
"Without You", one of the greatest power ballads.

Motley Crue's Home Sweet Home is one of the best power ballads of all time.
Home Sweet Home is Motley Crue's famous power ballad. It's one of the best power ballads of the 80s in my opinion.
Home Sweet Home, Without You and my favorite YOU'RE ALL I NEED.
This song is actually about Nikki Sixx getting his head kicked by the LAPD. Nikki is the lyricist for Mötley Crüe.
