Pantera has one of the wildest stories in metal. They were an obscure hair metal band in the late 80s and for some reason just knew to reinvent themselves as this band. One of the founders of a new metal sound, groove metal. I can't think of any other band who was able to do this.
I agree although the hair metal stuff was very good as well. They saw the end coming and switched at the right time. You can here EVH through almost every solo he does - it is great

"Domination" Moscow 91. After the fall of the USSR the students revolted, one of their conditions to play nice was a western rock concert. It was AC/DC Metallica, and Pantera. 1.6 Million kids showed up.
Amber: "...if you listened to Pantera your parents were probably worried about you" Me: "she ain't wrong." and in '91 I was only 8 years old but see my older brother and sister practically raised me because our parents were always working. My brother was in a heavy metal band and my sister was an anti-social alt-punk. So if my parents were out really late, my little brother and I got to stay up and watch Headbanger's Ball. 🤘
Being from Fort Worth TX, Arlington TX was about 20 minutes away, you could see Dimebag walking around sometimes down to earth guy, always made time for the fans.
"Domination". Live version from Russia. I believe it was in the late 90s. They and other major bands were there for what I believe was the first concert of this type of music in Russia. There were over a million people in attendance. If lyrics are important to you, you might want to have them readily available. I couldn't tell you what he's saying 99% of the time. But his range, power and passion are incredible. Check it out. You won't be disappointed.🤪
That whole concert must've been insane. The vibes just from the video seemed insane, and I know first hand how much ambient energy there was at a Pantera show back in the day.
The last time I met Vinnie Paul Abbott was at Home Depot in Arlington, TX on June 12th, 2018. I have pics. Little did I know he would be gone 10 days later. He had a house up on the hill just a couple of miles from mine. He was so cool and laid to rest next to his brother "Dimebag" Darrell at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington. Vinnie was wearing a Van Halen necklace when I talked with him. Eddie Van Halen was at Darrell's funeral and the guitar from VH ll is in his grave there. I remember seeing Vinnie & Darrell and the boys at small clubs around Dallas/Ft. Worth before they hit it big! Anyone from around here knew they would be huge in metal !!
Great choice!! “This Love”, “Yesterday Don’t Mean Sh*t”, “Domination”… you name it, Pantera’s got it!! You can also hear their final band, Damageplan, which the brothers, Dimebag Darrell and Vinny Paul, created after their falling out with the singer, Phil Anselmo. Anselmo has rejoined the group to pay tribute to them with their good friend, Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist, Zakk Wylde. Great post, RSR Family!!
My favorite band of all time! You should check out Clutch, the only band ive seen live more than Pantera...only because they still tour. R.I.P Dime and Vinnie!!
The only show I've ever gotten hurt at was the fourth time I saw Pantera. Got tossed over the barricade while crowd surfing and got my foot caught in a metal strut on the barricade and...freaking ouch.
Panera concerts were always so much fun. The mosh pits were intense, the crowd was super hyper. I remember one concert where it was in a stadium, the entire floor was standing only. I forget what song it was, but as soon as it started, mosh pits popped up ALL over the entire floor. Never seen that at any other concert.
I’ve always loved this band but this has always been my favorite song. Dimebag and Vinnie, brothers from my hometown are both buried in the cemetery where my dad was cremated in the last month. He knew a few peopl that were friends with Dime and Vinnie, so they will always remind me of him and just how great a band from my own city can be.
Stage diving is a staple of Metal shows, and so are Mosh Pits, you guys ever go to a show, you stay safe, stay about 30 feed from the front! 😅 Pantera is awesome, I didn't realized you'd done Cemetary Gates and Walk already, you should try I'm Broken too, that's another banger. RIP Dimebag Darrell on lead guitar. He played on a lot of people's albums, including Anthrax's 90s records when they were short a guitarist. You have to do Anthrax too! Lars Ulrich has said Anthrax's ONLY, is a "perfect song."
Pantera is my favorite metal band of all time. Phil Anselmo has such a badass voice. Vinnie Paul such a powerful drummer. Dimebag probably one of the best guitarists ever. Rex, can't forget about him. Such an amazing bassist.
Finally!! More Pantera. I told you that riff was infectious. This is my absolute favorite Pantera song, never gets old and will always get turned up to 11. May I also suggest Domination live in Moscow and/or Mouth For War.
try the live version of "Primal Concrete Sledge". You won't believe how heavy they are. The Abbot brothers were amazing. I got goose bumps watching your reaction and thinking back to the first time I heard this very song, my first, on a ride home from hockey practice. Changed my musical life.
I saw them on the cowboys from hell tour in 1992. All I can say is wow!!! Those high pitched notes during his guitar solos would make your eardrums crunch! And Vinnies double bass drumming, wow!
You need to check out the live performance of Domination from the monsters of rock festival in Moscow. Greatest live performance ever. The riffs are so chunky
I absolutely loved them in high school. About three weeks ago I took my teenage son to see them, and Phil (lead vocals) brought up how the 90s kids are now bringing their kids to shows, which is pretty amazing.
I first heard Pantera when I was 10, they were like nothing I'd ever heard. they changed my whole perspective. Now at age 39, I still listen to them frequently. I'd recommend Amber listen to Planet Caravan (their cover of Black Sabbath). You'll be surprised it's the same band you've just heard, honest!!
We’re taking over this town. Rip to Dimebag Darrel, he was such an amazing person. He was Shot in the head six times on stage playing in his band Damage Plan
Great video guys! Suggestion for another kick ass band that was a major influence on many other artists The band Ministry the song “Jesus Built My Hotrod” Go with the official music video for this one. Trust me.
@@kharma7755 They should explore Type O Negative for October too. "Black No. 1". Try and find a long form of the music video, because the studio version removes the best parts. I think Amber would like Peter's deep vocals. Jay would love the bass in that song for sure.
A couple more great Pantera tracks are "This Love" and "Drag the Waters". 2 of my all time favs by them. Vinnie Paul was the main reason I got into the heavier side of metal when I was young, will always be grateful to him for that! Absolutely amazing drummer who could drive the song, had great grooves, crazy fills, and knew when to push and when to pull back, one of the all-time best!
Grunge came from Seattle in the ‘90s… bands like Pantera answered that type of rock by pushing (breaking) all the buttons. There’s a lot of pent up energy in youth. This style of rock is the outlet.
I heard this song on the radio when it first came out. I missed the introduction of it. I called radio station to find out who it was and went straight to Tower Records and purchased it and have rocked it now for 30+ years now.
I was at a Pantera show in Columbus, Ohio, at Polaris amphitheater. The mosh pit was so big that anyone close to it were getting sucked in against their will. A guy next to us said he was going to the pit as soon as the band hit the stage. Two hours later, he came back with a broken leg.
Didn't think I'd ever see it... J! From Rap to Headbanger! Hard-Hitting Rock! I don't have that kind of Youthful Energy anymore, but NOT too old to remember! :) Great Reaction, Guys! :)
Can't put into words just how crazy those Pantera concerts were in the early 90's. you'd come home banged and bruised up, with those riffs still ringing in your head. Saw many many other metal concerts through the 90's, none brought it as hard as Pantera 🤘
I had the winning show tickets to see them in Reno. I already bought three. I was the ninth caller two more tickets for the shoe. What a blast they played on an old three layer, lighted dance floor.
I saw them at the Pioneer Center with White Zombie. This sounds like a different tour. I know they came before my show but parents said no to that one.
Back in the 90s I just happened to walk into a small club did not know who is performing turns out it was Pantera on their cowboys from hell tour... I was 5 feet away from dime ..
A few decades later and I still think this is one of their best songs ever! I only really liked the songs where Phil actually sang...not a fan of the fast screaming vocals in a lot of their songs...but the ones like this...showcase how great Phil's voice was.
I saw Pantera on July 28th. They can still bring it! I went with the same group of guys that saw them with me the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd time over 25yrs ago. Now there is a 4th time! Hopefully more to come. One of the best concerts. Seriously! 🤘🏻Rock on Jay and Amber!
That was the first song I heard from Pantera when was 13, and the guitar intro made me an instant fan. Since then, I've seen them live 8 times and had pit tickets every time. It can get brutal in there
Amber has evolved to the Rock world, lol in the beginning when she first came on the channel she was more of an R&B girl and now showing some of head banging, rock face, errrrrrrrr look... Yeah that's wassup Girl we all love you!!!! Jay congratulations homie, you got your self a head banging rock woman now...
Cowboys from Hell is one of my fav metal albums of all time, right up there with Pantera's next album Vulgar Display of Power. There's so much to love and appreciate about this band. Definitely give the songs Cemetary Gates, Mouth for War, This Love, and Heresy a listen. If you want a taste from Pantera's last album I recommend the song Revolution is My Name. Glad to see you all venturing further into some metal. Other bands you could queue up to keep the journey going would be Sepultura (maybe the song Territory), or System of a Down (songs Toxicity or Question), or Tool (songs like Aenima, Vicarious, or Lateralus) though arguably they aren't metal, or if you want modern metal that's hard hitting but not overly aggressive something like Spiritbox (song Blessed Be) or Polaris (song The Remedy). Also, I was a big 90s alternative kid, so some other songs you could check out from that era would be "Superman's Dead" by Our Lady Peace, "Better Days" by Citizen King, and "Shimmer" by Fuel. Enjoy the journey!
Totally rad reaction!!! Pantera has been one of my favorite bands since I first discovered them with this album (Cemetery Gates is my favorite Pantera song). Y'all need to react to King Diamond.....if you really want to hear somebody sing from low to high and everything in between, there is no one better.....and if you do react to King Diamond, you need to react to the live version of Sleepless Nights. Again great reaction! Many blessings to you and yours.
Jumping into the crowd is called "stage diving." If the other fans pass you around it's called "crowd surfing." Singer is Phil Anselmo. The band is from Texas. They started out a typical metal band playing power metal and I think they wore makeup for a short time like glam metal bands, (hair bands). They eventually found their sound and invented "groove metal."
They say the band is from Texas, but the lead singer, Phil Anselmo and another band member is from my home town of New Orleans. They practically lived in a heavy metal dive bar in "Fat City", in Metairie, La, a suburb of New Orleans. Those were some insane times, and I was lucky to be around it all. 🤘😝🤘
I met drummer Vinny Paul at the rainbow in LA 2 months before he died. Nicest guy. HE offered to take a pic with me. Shook his Hand and told him I loved his work.
This was the tune that got me into Pantera. Went on to get Cowboys From Hell, Vulgar Display of Power and Far Beyond Driven albums the following day. I had no face left afterwards as it was pulverised by their music
This was on this same album as Cemetery Gates. Great stuff! And before they had completely transformed into what became the Pantera sound from Vulgar Display of Power onward.
I saw Pantera live in Melbourne in the early 90's and my friend and I went to the front - big mistake! We felt the surge of the crowd behind us when the band came on stage and it was so scary! It took so long to push our way to the back and when we got there, I turned around and saw a guy with blood streaming down his chest from his face - grinning from ear to ear! Needless to say, it was an awesome concert! My favorite of theirs is "Walk" but also love "I'm Broken", "Five Minutes Alone" and their Black Sabbath cover "Planet Caravan" - which is a little slower but still awesome (I''m sure Amber would love that cover!) P.S. I love Amber's stank face during this - made me smile! Lotsa luv ❣
Now do the LIVE version of Domination, A New Level, Fucking Hostile, Mouth For War, By Demons Be Driven, their cover of Cat Scratch Fever, Drag the Waters, Primal Concrete Sledge, Psycho Holiday, the Art of Shredding, This Love, I’m Broken, Becoming, 5 Minutes Alone, Revolution Is My Name, and Goddamn Electric!! Oh they released a newer song I think in 2011 can’t remember the title but it was a tribute to the hardcore fans!!!
Can I just say I've been jumping from reaction channel to reaction channel lately, a lot of them couples, and I'm always struck by how in sync and harmonious you guys seem. It's really heartwarming to see how gracious and kind you are with each other.
I like all sorts of things from 50s to 00s, but THIS is MY FAVORITE BAND, Pantera don't mess around.. never sold out for the $$, if anything strived to just get heavier. The relationship they had with the fans, never seen anything like it. Such a shame there will be no more from these guys. This is a great song, but its far from the first thing I would set out to listen to from those last 6 albums.
Went to many Pantera shows back in the day... Never a bad show... RIP Dime and Vin... I don't think I could ever get over losing those two brothers... The world got robbed of a lot of good music..
This was why stress wasn't an issue. We'd go to a gig like this to blow off steam. Get all the anger and aggression out. Wake up the next day battered and bruised but still buzzing from the energy levels. Good times 😂
A week ago my lady friend and I took her 85 year old mother to a show in the SF Bay Area were some friends who are all recording artists were playing a fun gig together. We got her a Pantera T shirt for the show. The guy’s thought it was funny as hell ( not there music style) so after the show they took a group photo with her She absolutely adored it and hugged them all Thanks guys

The only show I've ever gotten hurt at was the fourth time I saw Pantera. Got tossed over the barricade while crowd surfing and got my foot caught in a metal strut on the barricade and...freaking ouch.
Yeah, that riff....🤘🤘 R.I.P. Dimebag.
Killer song, killer album. Can’t wait to see them next year even though only the two original members still with us 😢
I’ve always loved this band but this has always been my favorite song.
Pantera is awesome, I didn't realized you'd done Cemetary Gates and Walk already, you should try I'm Broken too, that's another banger. RIP Dimebag Darrell on lead guitar. He played on a lot of people's albums, including Anthrax's 90s records when they were short a guitarist. You have to do Anthrax too! Lars Ulrich has said Anthrax's ONLY, is a "perfect song."
Had to come back w/another account to fully support this type of reaction content!!
Pantera is my favorite metal band of all time. Phil Anselmo has such a badass voice. Vinnie Paul such a powerful drummer. Dimebag probably one of the best guitarists ever. Rex, can't forget about him. Such an amazing bassist.
Aaah, Pantera. The stories i could tell about the many times I hung with them. My personal favorites are "Psycho Holiday" and "Hollow"
Dimebag was my favorite guitarist in my youth. It was devastating when he was killed.
Edit... yes my folks did worry about me!! Lol
NEW BAND SUGGESTION!!!
Anthrax and their song “I’m the man” ❤
Absolutely!
We’re taking over this town. Rip to Dimebag Darrel, he was such an amazing person. He was Shot in the head six times on stage playing in his band Damage Plan
Great video guys!
Suggestion for another kick ass band that was a major influence on many other artists
The band
Ministry
the song
“Jesus Built My Hotrod”
Go with the official music video for this one.
Trust me.
That, or Thieves. Or N.W.O.
I'm hoping they'll also do "Everyday is Halloween" for spoopy season, even though it's the least Ministry-sounding Ministry song ever... LOL
I'm fifty four and I still jump in a pantera pit
I was at a Pantera show in Columbus, Ohio, at Polaris amphitheater. The mosh pit was so big that anyone close to it were getting sucked in against their will. A guy next to us said he was going to the pit as soon as the band hit the stage. Two hours later, he came back with a broken leg.
Please, please next rory gallagher bad penny
Didn't think I'd ever see it... J! From Rap to Headbanger! Hard-Hitting Rock! I don't have that kind of Youthful Energy anymore, but NOT too old to remember! :) Great Reaction, Guys! :)
Is this really considered music? This sounds like some devil worship.
Yes, it summons the devil everytime it plays...get an exorcist pronto.
More like racist worship. Lead singer is a known white nationalist.
Oooo satanic panic in the attic 😂😂😂 music is a gift from the Lord
Can't put into words just how crazy those Pantera concerts were in the early 90's. you'd come home banged and bruised up, with those riffs still ringing in your head. Saw many many other metal concerts through the 90's, none brought it as hard as Pantera 🤘
My favorite Pantera song...nothing more I can say. This one just hits me and I love it.
Saw Pantera open for Skid Row in 92. This is the song they opened with. Blew me away. Left during Skid Rows opener. The video of Domination is a must.
Busted my nose open at my first Pantera show..... It was exactly what you would think it was - and it was badass!!
I saw them live in Tulsa in '91. This is an accurate depiction of that concert.
one of my favorite songs from panteras glam metal years is We'll meet again very 80s sound with one of the most phenomenal solos ever
Jay and Amber I've never really listened to Pantera but this was fire. I loved it.
Yea this album came on the scene and mayhem erupted. 🤘😝🤘
Yeah that's wassup
Girl we all love you!!!!
Jay congratulations homie, you got your self a head banging rock woman now...
Best description of Pantera I ever heard was, "Their music is like C.P.R. with a sledge hammer!"
Everyone in the crowd is going buck wild. My favorite music video. Because they did not shy away from what that was all about.
I love their song "Walk" and this song. I loved it when both these songs debuted. Headbanging for sure!!
pantera "domination" live from russia 1991 is one of the best recorded videos ever..
I’m from Texas we all new and know Pantera, thank you Texas misses the guys
Jumping into the crowd is called "stage diving." If the other fans pass you around it's called "crowd surfing." Singer is Phil Anselmo. The band is from Texas. They started out a typical metal band playing power metal and I think they wore makeup for a short time like glam metal bands, (hair bands). They eventually found their sound and invented "groove metal."
Domination Live in Russia, 5 minutes alone, mouth of war, revolution is thy name, primal concrete sledge, the art of shredding RIP DIME and VINNIE!!!!
Please react to The Sleep. It's one of Pantera's most epic songs. The guitar solo is a thing of beauty
Which bar in Fat City? I used to haunt a lot of those bars back then.
Texas Metal at its Best!!! RIP Dime and Vinny!
I recommend "the sleep" as a little more mellow, almost a ballad... but with literally the best solo ever made. "Mouth for war" is another banger.
Lotsa luv ❣
Raise you hand if you never thought you’d see Pantera or Helloween here… AND ON THE SAME DAY!!! 🙋🏻♂️😂😂😂
This is Phil pre pubescent , completely different vocals in later years
"You see us come and altogether run for cover... we're taking over this town"
YES!! \m/
‘91… freshman year of high school, it’s when I truly began to rock
The riff in their song Broken is so sick! Dime bag has the best riffs..
Great choice. I saw the original Pantera line-up 3 times in concert!!! Great shows.
Can I just say I've been jumping from reaction channel to reaction channel lately, a lot of them couples, and I'm always struck by how in sync and harmonious you guys seem. It's really heartwarming to see how gracious and kind you are with each other.
I like all sorts of things from 50s to 00s, but THIS is MY FAVORITE BAND,
Pantera don't mess around.. never sold out for the $$, if anything strived to just get heavier.
Pantera is currently on tour, they’re playing Budweiser stage tomorrow night in Toronto 🇨🇦
They play in AT&T Stadium with Metallica on Friday night. The weekend of Dime's birthday and playing in front of the home crowd.
@@mhill781 that's awesome, I have tickets for Metallica next summer in Edmonton, its thier only show in Canada, gonna be lit !!
