Mötley Crüe were literally just a bunch of guys partying and having fun. Probably one of the most fun loving, doesn't take themselves series mainstream bands from the '80s Metal scene🤘🏼
Agreed 🤘
Who’s Motley CREW?
@@dmitriponomarev8002 it's a band autocorrect confused with what I wrote. Fixed it.
that's nice phraseology ... but a bit of rubbish ... they were songwriters, not just a bunch of guys partying ... I mean they sold their music to guys and gals who were partying and having fun
@grassabrutta Okay, so you dont know there story entirely got it
The look on Maddy's face when Tommy's kit spinning was priceless, love the reaction have a great weekend .
You too! 🩷😆
My friends met them when they came to our town. We were partying out in the woods. Crue was walking down the road. We didn't believe them at first.
I believe it was the Dr. Feelgood tour when he had that rotating kit setup and mid concert he did a medley of Led Zeppelin songs while spinning out over the crowd. Just a bonkers thing to see live.
@joegreene7619 Actually, this is from "Girls, Girls, Girls"
Nobody's ever ready for that! ❤
There is a reason 80's music is the best music. And I'll take a Crue concert over any current artist every single time. Infact, just send me back to the 80's!
Saw them 3 times ❤
Back in the 80s that's what we called having fun and partying hard..❤
Another thing.
That's when Metal was starting to get good..
Me and my friend's had a band..
And on Friday and Saturday night.
We Rocked as hard as we partyed..
Back in those day's.
We even stayed at the warehouse.
And started parting when we got up if we went to sleep..
Npw day's I'm surprised that we didn't OD on the powder we had or drink ourselves to death..
Rock On Brother's and Sister's
Wildside was written about the dark side of LA
Oooh
Nikki said back in the 80's that the lyrics were about the dark side of LA, A lot of sunset strip bands had tunes about the Dark side of LA, Welcome to the jungle was another.
Maddy, that spinning drumset was part of their shows for years. Had the chance to see them live back in the late 80s. I was more of a "real" metal head in my teens, and all that hair-metal band where considered "not real metal". But for some reason I always loved Mötley Crüe.
My guilty pleasure was Saigon Kick. 😎🥃 Jane's A cleared all that up.
Tommy Lee got the idea for the spinning drum from Mick Mars . His previous band came up with the idea in the 70's .
Close, but not quite. In guitarist Mick Mars’s previous band the drummer did indeed have an upside down drum set. It ain’t turn upside down, though. It was simply set up that way. There was no mechanism involved. It was just on some kind of rack to be suspended upside down for the whole show.
As for Tommy Lee’s drum set shenanigans, it wasn’t the same thing for years. He did something different nearly every tour, and it was always based around his drum solo section of the show. This song is from their 1987 album Girls, Girls, Girls. For the previous album, 1985’s Theatre Of Pain, his drum set was on a platform that was hinged in the front. The rear of it raised up on that hinge so that it came up to a 90-degree angle and in the audience you could see him drumming from the “top” since the platform was then perpendicular to the ground. It didn’t spin or anything else. It just came up on that front hinge.
For this 1987 tour he wanted to top that, and this was what he came to with. This contraption first extended out forward, and raised up. And it could then spin forwards and backwards. I could be mistaken, but I don’t think this one could do left and right spins. I think it only spun forward and backward. If you find one of the full show videos from that 1987 tour you could confirm whether or not it spun left and right by skipping to the drum solo section of the concert, which was when he would do whatever the drum thing was that year.
For the 1989 Dr. Feelgood tour he had a drum set that was up near the ceiling on a roller coaster track, but I don’t think that one did anything other than ride along that track, and the track was just flat. It didn’t have any vertical movement to it. It just weaved around a bit near the ceiling. I think it had some big fake subwoofer speakers hanging from it, just bare without any boxes. They didn’t actually do anything. Just for the spectacle.
I might be wrong, but I don’t recall him doing anything special with his drums after that tour until after they split up and had the reunion tour in 2005. I think that was the tour he had these bungee cord things strapped on himself, and he was jumping great distances between two different platforms. And I believe there was a circular roller coaster track, as well. Just one loop based at the normal drum spot on stage. There’s an official concert DVD from that tour.
Then for their “final” tour he actually had a humongous roller coaster track that did have a ton of elevation to it, and the drums also spun again, this time while riding the tracks. The tracks came up from the stage and went up and down over about 3/4 of the length of the arena. There’s an official Blu-Ray (and DVD?) of that tour. I believe one of the few times that it actually broke down was when they were filming for this one.
Then for the most recent Stadium Tour with Def Leppard, I don’t think he actually did anything special, likely because of how many bands had to play each night. These shows, Crüe actually sucked, and even resorted to some recorded parts for things they’d always played live in the past. It was sad. All the other bands on that tour put on good shows. I’ve seen them ten times over the years, and this tour was (luckily for me) the only one where I actually encountered Vince Neil living up to his reputation for singing like crap, half-assing it very badly. I was lucky, I guess, that every other time I saw them he actually put forth a good effort and sang well.
It was cooler cuz no social media to ruin the surprises back then. U had to buy albums at the record store.
The BEST rock show you will ever see. They are still doing it 🔥🔥🤘🏼
No way!!! 🤩
No not actually. It's a sh#t show and Vince is out of it vocally. Not to take away from the genius of motleys big hit numbers.
I was in junior high when these guys came to prominence with SHOUT AT THE DEVIL and after all the stories concerning their "behavior" all those years...I CAN'T BELIEVE they're all STILL ALIVE!!!
Wow!!
We were playing shout at the devil and my mom made us turn it off! Motley Crue was banned from my house as a kid! Lol
@@DPRyan-vd5pp I went out and bought a whole sound system for my car just to play that song as loud as possible back in 81/82
It is that deep. That saved the song for me as well as the drums. Lol. They are singing exactly that. " pray for us on the wild side." Motley crue was sooooo much fun. Crue! Crue! Crue!
Thrill of 80's was the risk taken. A gamble with one's life. My motto then "Chances are "
Many of my friends didn't make it out of their 20's and more than a few of them before their 20's. I didn't expect to make it to my 30s, and yet here I am at 53. If I were to go back, would I change any of it? Perhaps, but not much. Nowadays, I prefer peace and quiet over the excitement I once felt in my youth. After some time, the party wasn't a party anymore. Eventually, it comes a time when you catch a glimpse of yourself in a reflection you were looking to pass. Instead, you're lured in to face the years you've wasted and those you've lost along the way due to unnecessary circumstances. Tragically, the 80s lived up to its title, "Decade of Decadence." The appeal of taken to the edge was being able to hold back just before the final step, leaving safety to the wind. A time when the family structures truly lost their grip with divorces on the rises and children left to their vises. Growing up in a single parent household, I wasn't raised right as my mother did her best, having to work long hours to support 2 kids and an alcoholic boyfriend. I was raised by the streets as most kids then were. Kids having kids with nothing to pass on as far as insights go only led to more problems down the line. I saw them as to where all this was leading to, but then as I aforementioned that I wasn't expecting to live past my 30's. For the longest time, I remained in a drug induced drunken stupor so as to escape the reality of hardships. I had buried myself beneath excuses to cover for my self-destructive behaviors. A lot of bridges were burnt then. Aside from one's, I've burnt . After Vietnam is when America truly took a turn for the worst. For a moment in the 90s, I thought I saw hope. A sobering thought to reflect on how no truer quote stated as "Ignorance is bliss." Alas, the parties are over with bills long overdue has finally come around to collect .
Thanks for the awesome reaction Maddy! Love this song!
Your reaction to Tommy Lee, spinning around on his drum kit was priceless. That was pretty much the face of everybody who first experience that in the 80s. Never seen anything like it because there was nothing like it because nobody ever attempted to do something that crazy. It was absolutely mind blowing.

You'll see in just a moment, Maddy
Motley Crue Rocked Hard !! 🎸 ..Fantastic live show ✌️
I was at the old (no longer there) New Haven Coliseum for their show during the "Girls, Girls, Girls" tour...yes, I'm THAT old, YIKES... when Tommy Lee fell from his kit, and had to be rushed to the hospital...thankfully only getting a mild concussion. Our tickets were refunded, and we are given tickets to see them the following summer for the "Dr.Feelgood" tour at Lake Compounce, with Tesla opening. Hair band glory days.
You can not even imagine how much on the wild side these guys were! I was, and still am, a fan of Motley Crue at this time and we had all heard the stories about the things they did but even we didn't realize then just how crazy they got. They eventually published a book entitled The Dirt: Confessions of the worlds most notorious rock band. As I said I grew up during this time as a fan and even I was totally left in shock after I read that book as well as bassist Nikki Sixx's The Heroin Diaries the life of a shattered rock star. HOLY S**T!
Tommy Lee the drummer was a celebrity all by himself. He and Pamela Anderson had the first celebrity ⚡extape. This is how it was in the 80s o yeah. Miss them days. As much as I can remember of them...😂 and you right it was fun at first but as it went on night after night and you lose another friend to partying too hard. It did get old.. luckily I got old to. My first band miller street was all gone before grunge started😢
I was at the Motley Crue concert when Tommy Lee's drum kit did that! HS Class of '75, College grad "80. We rocked through the 70's, 80's, 90's and still rockin! Welcome aboard !!!
Hey Maddy. Thanks for reacting to this song. The best part of this video is that a young, curious, assertive mind gave her best objective analysis and concluded that this song was either promoting or bringing awareness to a hedonistic, wreckless, and lonely lifestyle. Like she was trying to make sense of it.
I was in a band back then and I always went through 3 to 4 cans of hairspray a week
80's hairstyles are the culprint of the hole in the ozone layer
You’re right about the lyrics. Glamorizing their wild lifestyle. They are lucky to be alive. Nikki Sixx wrote most of their songs. I’ve seen these guys many times. They were the best at whipping the crowd into a frenzy. Decadent song. But one of my favorites. Nikki Sixx has been sober for 25 years. He was not when this was recorded.
Wish everyone could have grew up in the 80s god it was fun!!!!!
The Crue always had an awesome show! Sensationalizing the wild side...the good the bad and the Ugly of it! Depends on your point of view! They were definitely a Wild Ride at every show! Crue Crue Crue...! Luv ya Maddie ❤💛
My favorite concert was in '87 Whitesnake and Crue. I enjoy a wide variety of music, but for that concert I was more of a fan of Whitesnake's music and Crue's showmanship, but they were both great! Great reaction and I love your channel Maddy!
My first concert was Motley Crue, Skid Row and Queensryche. I was in the Army in Germany. Literally changed my life from that day on. Not always for the better. lol
@@mckrackin5324 Lol - I love your sense of humor. Thank you for your service. I also was in the Army (Desert Storm Veteran).
We saw them too, during Dr. Feelgood tour. Whitesnake was so good, I dare say better than the Crue, at least on that night.
@@georgepatton6195 I can agree - I thought Whitesnake was better at that (my local) concert too.
@@musicloverchiefsfan5410 I was also in Desert Storm. I served from 1987 to 1991 in Kitzingen Germany. B Co 1/15 3ID.
Motley Crue. 1980's mayhem and debauchery at it's finest.
WOE NOW!! Not Promotional!! Just simply their style of playing instruments. As long as you UNDERSTAND THE LINES you can
Get in line
Cross the line
Draw the line
Tow the line or
Snort the line

They were an opening band when I first saw the in Detroit at Cobo Hall. Amazing show! Tommy Lee's drum solos were epic
Good times at a Motley Crue concert, awesome show yay 🤘😆🤘🎸🎸🎤🥁🔥🔥🔥
Grew up listening to 70s 80s and 90s rock best 3 decades in rock saw so many concerts i cant remember some
You couldn’t smell the hair spray over all the smoke from whatever everyone was smoking, cigarettes or cigaweed. The drum cage would rotate forwards, backwards, clockwise and counterclockwise if I remember correctly.
Absolutely love Motley Crue. I've seen them 4 times.
One of the best things about this era of rock shows was they all tried to out do each other. So some of the stage antics were insane, but Awesome!
That was exactly how it was in the 80s.
The scene of Nikki Sixx getting shook by the fireball behind him (when the drumkit retracts) is PURE 80's rock/metal
No one’s lost. Just enjoying life. Just stuff that happens living wild.
Was there when they recorded this. Got to hear it like 3 times. CRUE CRUE CRUE Only other concert that topped this one for me was Monsters Of Rock in 1991 Germany
I was at all their concerts when they came near my town in the 80s.
From Hollywood. Nikki writes most of the lyrics to Crue songs, and this one is really about the hard, dark, and wild side of Los Angeles/ Hollywood, which they themselves, lived around a lot of and inside of, as with most of us in music in Hollywood/LA did back in the 80s-90s. Nikki’s writing often inspired by the darker side of life, as his was pretty dark, rife with hard times and feelings. They lost a lot of friends and loved ones while paying their dues along the way, and they often found ways to make great Frankensongs out of all of it. They wanted to entertain as well as kick you in the nuts at the same time. Some songs were all for sleazy fun, and some were about the $hitty things about life, and some were aggressive, guilty pleasure fun at 120 decibels to scream your lungs out while your eardrums bleed…good stuff.😊
Your right Maddy, it was bringing awareness to the strong potential that living a crazy life on the dangerous wild side will be a "tragic life" & "east LA at midnight, daddy wont be coming home tonight" he said.
Us 80’s kids had it all back then we physically experienced it all already, some today are just already just getting a taste of it of course not the full experience cause the good ole days are gone
I saw them in the Girls Girls Girls tour in 87. Was an awesome concert. And Tommy Lee did his solo in his special drum kit he had made. Tommy's been doing crazy drum solos since on different types of kits that go out over the crowd or upside down. Awesome!
This was my first real concert Motley Crue/Whitesnake 1987 Evansville, Indiana. I always look at heavy metal lyrics as being the current/past news set to music.
Born in 1970 the 80’s vibe was indescribable if you didn’t live it….best part woman understood their role and knew how to act…
You on point with deep observations
My Music was Boston, Bad Company, April Wine, Foghat..etc..I was in my early 20's when they started but you could NOT help but liking "Crue" I really fell for Hair Metal! and there is a message to that song, You have to watch the movie 'The Decline of Western Civilization Part II The Metal Years" to understand the song. When you get to the scene where W.A.S.P. guitarist is in the pool and him Mom is sitting there, you will see what it means!
I luv your reactions!!! And why are you sooo damned pretty??

I LOVE seeing people's reaction to seeing Tommy Lee's 360 drum kit for the first time!!
The previous tour, the drum kit went vertical (see Home Sweet Home video), and was the first time they had Tommy Lee strapped in. The tour AFTER this, they had a track taking the drum kit out and over the audience. Theatrics are something missing from a lot of music in the 2000's. Back in the 80's, lots of bands gave the audience everything they paid for and then some. :)
It didn't smell like hair spray it smelled of beer and Mari- Juana. Living life on the wild side. The 80's rock shows were like no other ever.
I saw this tour back in the 80s and they put on one of the best shows I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot in the nearly 40 years since.
I wouldn't pay to see them today, tho. lol
Back when Vince knew his own lyrics 😂
This band is one of those of the 80s who definitely lived hard and fast, full of decadence and debauchery, and as most music artists do (as you pointed out), they often write about what they know - and they definitely know about the "wild side" of life - however, it is not necessarily a song advocating or discouraging it ; at best you could say it qualified as "raising awareness", cos it's just a song encapsulating a way of life for many in those big cities, in a "it is what it is" sentiment.
Despite the live concert setting (in case there's any confusion), this was NOT live. This is indeed the studio album version, and I found it clever how they worked in some stage antics to sync up with the sounds of emergency sirens and gunfire and panicked screaming, through pyrotechnics and the like.
We Rocked in the 80’s… and the concerts were unmatched
We used truckloads of hairspray in the 80s it was such a great time to be alive
When N.W.A. debuted in 1989, people accused them of promoting violence... They simply said that they didn't condone violence, but they wanted to talk about the real side of life that people, including police, were trying to hide... They were from Compton, California and they described life there as "crazy"... So, why wouldn't they wanna talk about real life?
Motley Crue pretty much embodied the wild life and reckless behavior... Nikki Sixx (bass) who formed the band and wrote most of the lyrics was not shy about hiding his inspirations... The band based in Hollywood, California in the early 80's and they were inundated w/ drugs, strippers, gangs and violence... It wasn't this glamorous paradise that people thought it was. The lyrics to 'Wild side' were basically what they saw every day in Hollywood.
When Motley Crue weren't onstage, they were partying at their crib on the Sunset Strip, scoring drugs... scoring girls... and boozing it up. They were always in trouble w/ cops... Tommy Lee (drums) looked back at those days w/ disbelief, saying that they practically got away w/ murder...
Nikki Sixx became a he+++n addict by the time this Motley Crue video was shot on their 1987 tour... Soon after, he OD'd one night and paramedics had to revive him cos his heart had stopped. Crazy part was... he checked out of the hospital that very night, went home and shot up he+++n again! He recalled waking up the next morning w/ a needle still in his arm and lamented that he just couldn't stop. That was the reality for a hardcore drug addict.
But that was the life that they had... and it made the lyrics to their songs. Nikki Sixx published a book called 'The he+++n diaries' - it was basically his diary entries that he wrote during the worst years of his addiction - it was a warning for others not to go down that road.
If u look at another Hollywood-based band Guns N' Roses, they were worse in their early days in the 80's... They were always fighting others offstage or fighting each other onstage... No record company wanted to sign them because they were chaos 24/7 w/ drugs and booze and women ... And they became one of the biggest bands in the world after they were signed in 1986 and the inspirations of their debut album 'Appetite for Destruction' in 1987 was real life - the mayhem... the romances... the sex... the drugs... the frustrations of life... etc.
The Guns N' Roses song 'Welcome to the jungle' was about their singer Axl Rose coming to L.A. from Indiana and someone off the street literally told him, "You're in the jungle baby, you're gonna die..." and that was in the lyrics.
Haha, yes, we all bought a constant supply of Aquanet! I lived in L.A. during this time and it was exactly as fun as it looked. There were girls and guys all over the place looking just like this & it was amazing.
Maddy says "is the drummer wearing a seatbelt for some reason...?" and I'm smiling ear to ear in the knowledge how she's gonna find out soon.
😂😂😂😂😅
The 80s. Brought to you by Aqua Net.
I graduated high school in 1987. This was my dream. lol
I was at the Girls Girls Girls concert at the Summit (now a Church) in Houston Texas. I can tell you this. It did not smell like hair spray, it smelt of weed! ...AND IT WAS AN
AWESOME CONCERT!!! 😀
The wild side is dangerous but absolutely the best time in your life!
Yes, Motley Crüe lived on the wild side, but miraculously they survived it, but not without consequence. Singer Vince Neil and his buddy in another band were making a beer run while drunk, and Vince got into a car accident, and his friend died. He went to jail for manslaughter, but got a light sentence, although it did cost him 7 figures. Bass player Nikki Six got addicted to heroin and overdosed one night. He was pronounced dead, after his heart stopped for a couple of minutes. Them miraculously he came back from the dead, as I think the EMT stuck the needle in his heart with adrenaline. He shot up a batch of heroin one last time, after leaving the hospital, and realized he had to quite, or he’d die for sure any day. He never touch the stuff again.
Wow
This is the third time I have said this since I seen you were doing Motley Crue "Home Sweet Home" love the song 😊
You need to watch the movie “ The Dirt “. It’s a movie about Motley Crue and how crazy they were. It’s an incredible movie that shows how they did it all!!
Ooooh
@@MaddyReactions Yes, it’s on Netflix.
This is the album that took me to the wild side on it release, and thankfully I am still alive....on the wild side till this day :D
When they was on tour for this album Tommy Lee played an 8 minute drum solo in the middle of this song. At one point he played for about 2 minutes upside down and the rest of the time he was continuously rotating 360 degrees
When you said is the drummer wearing a seatbelt. I'm thinking just wait there's more. 🤣
😂😂😂
I saw them probably 4-5 times. And it wasn't because they were my favorite band. It was because they toured and came to my town.
This is the era I became an adult from teen to adult from 1980 to 1990 and the 80's were a strange time and these guys (my age) were the generation of "Cold War" children, a small generation that doesn't even really have a name that lived like there was no tomorrow as that's what underlies pretty much all music of the 80's if you listen carefully.
I missed the 80’s completely. Born in ‘90, but my dad raised me on CRÜE and made damn sure I knew who they were lol
You should REALLY check out Tommy Lee's drum roller coaster! AMAZING 🤘
listen Maddy they are talking about real life ..i was on that show ..best show ever ..all the motley show was loud..and theatrics...i remembered the wibe surrending before the show ...the show was wild and crazy on stage whit nikki jack daniel solo..also a lots of actions in the crowd..men i miss that time ..there are what they are ..they dont try to be someone evrything they did was original ..sex drogue and rock roll ..all there sound have some cool groove ..that seperated from other band from the 80s .. ..Maady if you did not understand whats going on .. its ok u grow up in another period ..but the real hardcore fans that have live those period can tell you ...there wont be any motley band .,there wont be any 80 s decade whit that fun and music ....now let s try the home sweet home official video 1985
"How many bottles of hairspray did these people use"?!!😂...let's just say my sister had stock in Aquanet!!🤪
GOD I MISS THE 80's....
This song as well as the lifestyle they've lived was an incessant glamorization of destructive choices. Choices that they rarely had to face the consequences of (sometimes). They themselves weren't guilty of "intentionally" harming anyone directly (*cough*cough*) but, they certainly cheered it on! I used to think it was "cool" and a lifestyle to pursue if I wanted wealth, the admiration of women and to live unjudged by others; but, as I got older I could see it for what it really is. Unfortunately, they'll never know the harm to others that they glorified for all those years... Razzle does...and the two kids with permanent brain damage do, but...well...yeah...
I'm sure that the Japanese man, minding his own business on the train, who was rushed to the hospital with a serious head injury because Nikki just "felt" like chucking the whiskey bottle into the passengers is just FINE with how they choose to behave! Haha! Good one, Nikki!
I'm sure if the fire that they started in the hotel WASN'T put out (fortunately) and it burned down with who-knows how many people inside, well...ROCK N' ROLL!!!
The instrumentation of this song is pretty good...just wish the intent behind the lyrics wasn't so harmful. Par for the course with the Crue I guess.
I loved the look on your face when drummer Tommy Lee was turning upside down. That's Pamela Anderson's ex-Husband up there! :) Yeah, some of the lyrics were off in the subtitles. But yeah these guys REALLY partied it up in the 80's! The movie The Dirt is all about them based on the book of the same name.
Basically 80s in LA. That's the "wild side" the song is talking about. LA was a wicked place in the 80s
I always thought a Motley Crue show was like the circus a strip club and a Pro Wrestling show all wrapped up together into a rock show!
Great summation! Lol
artists are people too
Tommy lee and the roller coster 😱❤️🥁
It smelled like pot. And whiskey. And cigarettes.
Thank you for taking a ride on the wild side!
You bet!
When Sixx wrote this he was a cocaine, heroin and pill addict, and started the day with a large cup of Jack Daniels. in deep depression, and felt lonely, trying to get clean while hiding exactly how bad he was. Most friends had left him and the band was all he had. He used 5000$ of drugs a day… and apparently came up with this song after a short relationship with a chatolic schoolgirl.
Sixx may only be the best bass player but he wrote good deep lyrics.
100% 80s.
This was a kickass concert back in the 80s. Ft Wayne Coliseum. My ears rang for a week afterwards. 🤟
btw - back in the day, Aquanet and Paul Mitchell made billions off GenX and the big hair decade. lol
The excess of the eighties is more than likely the cause of a hole in the ozone layer.
More cans of Aqua Net were emptied by bands like Mötley Crüe, Poison, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Steelheart, Dokken and many others.
What a rush!
😂😂😂😂 love it
Tommy Lee plays the upside down mind blowing

In the 80s it was the style sound like a party song no latter the content. Like with Doo Wop. They would sing about depressing stuff but theyvalway sounded happy about it.
Aqua Net was the hairspray of choice in the eighties
After this Tommy's kit was on a roller coaster. Lmao
This was filmed at the Market Square Arena here in my town - - Indianapolis!
I was at this tour at the Tacoma Dome. The hairspray at the time was Aqua Net. 😉
Rolling drums was cool at the show 🤘😆🤘
Say what you want with the hair but the ‘80s was a fantastic time for music. Motley Crue for real lived a hard life and it is real
