The Crüe did a fantastic job with this cover. I remember when it came out and we really enjoyed it! If you get a chance, check out the original! We actually did have guns in the vehicles and would go hunt after classes. But blessed to have been a teen in the 80’s!
Yeah, smoking did happen 😂 in and out of school. The smoke pit usually was by a cafeteria. We didn’t have the guns, Canadian here, but how can Americans go to school with guns as teenagers in the 80’s and no school shootings? Now they are everywhere? Just musing 🤔
This is originally a song by a band called Brownsville Station from late 60s - early 70s. It got included on the 3rd album Theater of Pain because lead guitarist Mick Mars was big fan of original song's writer.
Motley Crue did a great job with this cover from 1989. The original was released in 1973 by Brownsville Station. I can tell you from first hand experience when I was in high school (74 to 78) in Chicago that there was indeed smoking in the bathrooms. The rules were no smoking in the building, but I rarely saw anyone get caught at it. A lot of times I'd open the door to the girl's room and a cloud of smoke would float out (and not just from cigarettes either).
Such fun times, it seems... I'm in Highschool, and boy, the amount of people I've seen smoking is not little... just one little correction: this Mötley Crüe cover is not from 1989, its from their 1985 album Theatre of Pain... :)
The principal was the one and only Michael Berryman , late 1970s horror genre icon who's best known for his creepy performance as "Pluto" in the uncompromising Wes Craven horror film The Hills Have Eyes (1977). Berryman suffers from Hypohidrotic Ectodermal Dysplasia, a rare condition leaving him with no sweat glands, hair, fingernails or teeth.
I also met Michael a few times when I was working as a server at a restaurant he frequented years ago. Super nice guy. The first couple of times I served him, we chit-chatted about normal stuff. After a few visits, I mentioned that I was a genre fan - slipping it into the conversation casually so as not to come off as a fanboy accosting him in his off-time - and he very excitedly talked to me about the project he was working on, which big horror names he was working with, the training he was doing to get in shape for the role, etc. Instead of being put off by me knowing who he was and being a fan, he was stoked to talk about it. My interactions with him were obviously a little more limited than Patricia's (I mean, he didn't attend my wedding or anything) but as she said, he really was a sweetheart. Just a super cool, super nice, super friendly dude.
Seven songs down the Motley Crue road, and you're doing great. I recommend "Too Young to Fall in Love". The video is pure 80s cheesy awesomeness. Also... this song is a cover of a 1973 song by Brownsville Station. I think you'd like the original.
Great cover by the Crue. Do Without You, it's another one of those great ballads with awesome guitar solos that Jay loves. Also a great Polson song is Every Rose It's Thorns ,another great ballad.
Talking about that Doberman Pincher dog, I know from experience that unless they are specifically trained for guarding they are actually a very gentle and loving breed. Very loyal to their owners. Also if you have kids and they are pretty much raised with your kids they pretty much have an instant bodyguard for life.
We smoked in the 2'nd floor john too until some mook flushed a lit M-80 down the toilet. We heard a huge bang & then the toilet disappeared. Nothing left but the water pouring out of the pipes. An amazing sight to see,40 guys trying to get out the one door all at the same time.
Amber and Jordan this is a cover from (Brownsville Station). Motley Crue did a good job. Motley Crue,-(Same old Situation) is a good one. Keep up with the good work 😎👍
Wow - look at the treasure you dug up. Awesome song! One of the very BEST rock bangers to react to is We're Not Gonna Take It by Twisted Sister. The official extended video is a MUST to get the full and best experience. Teacher Teacher by 38 Special is another banger that you'll both love :)
I'm 74, we had student smoking areas when I was in high school. I attended high school in Chicago, Denver, and a little town in North Carolina, all 3 high schools had smoking areas for students. Yep, gun rakes in our trucks, in the country not cities, I grew up as much in the country as the cities.
@@randallbundy108 You tell em Randall The 80s loved to cover so many 70s songs This was just 1of maybe 100 Starting with I love rock and roll By The Arrows in 1975,
I used to smoke in high school but only after meals though, I used to go smoke in the toilet in the vocational building at my High School. The trick was don't get caught, I would get a can of Dr. Pepper to drink immediately after flicking the cherry from the Marlboro short into the toilet and flush the toilet right away. Right before the tardy bell for 4th period class I mostly took Voc classes so I was always not far from where my next class was going to be.
We had a smoking area at our school and agree with your dad about how most trucks had gun racks with pew pews in them. Never had anyone go for their weapon because of anger. It was such a free feeling of fun and good music.
My school had a designated smoking area, but I was envious of another nearby high school that had an "open campus". This meant that they could leave school at their discretion such as lunch time and go eat at the pizza joint or wherever. Mine was a closed campus which meant you had to be careful sneaking on or off because you'd get in trouble if you got caught.
I went to one of those schools. There was smoking area underneath the industrial power lines and we could go anywhere off campus. Being the early 80s we were at the video arcade most of the time.
i graduated in 86, our smoking section was common area where all the shop classes were and we had open campus as well, unfortunately for me it led to a lot of cutting 5th and 6th period when I didn't want to return from lunch
My high school was open campus. We had a “smoking lounge” outdoors in the back of the school. Lunch time, we could go wherever we wanted. I loved being a teenager in the 80s.
Our campus was semi-open, meaning that you could leave campus at lunch BUT only if you had a pass. A lot of us left campus anyway but, like you, we just had to be careful not to get caught either leaving or returning from lunch. Fortunately, it was a big campus and they only had a few staff members to patrol so, y'know, not getting caught wasn't that difficult (especially if one of your friends had a car). Plus there was a security guard who didn't bother even trying to check for passes so we always knew we could exit/return wherever they were posted. Or trick #2 was to walk near the back of a huge group of people. Then, as the guard stopped the first few people to check their passes, we'd just keep walking and pretend we couldn't hear them calling out to us to come back because, hey, they couldn't stop everybody. As for smoking, I knew a number of kids who smoked and I def remember the goth kids grouping up in out-of-the-way areas and talking about cloves a lot (before I really knew what goth kids were) and I can imagine there being a designated smoking area somewhere on campus at that time but, not being a smoker myself, I don't remember it specifically. And by the time I was a goth/punk art/theater kid myself in junior and senior year... well, I still wasn't a smoker so, if there was a smoking area, I wasn't super aware of it. I *do* remember the hessian kid who dropped acid before one of our finals though. I don't know what grade he got but he sure had a GREAT time taking that test! Tbh, he probably got a better grade than I did because the girl sitting on my other side was wearing a loose, sleeveless blouse, was leaning forward over her test a lot, and wasn't wearing a bra. Being a young boy with hormones that were going all Hulkamania, I spent a lot of that final perfecting my non-obvious side-eye while getting what may have been my first gander at IRL naked boob. Not saying I'm proud of it... but, like the acid-dropping hessian kid, I also had a great time during that test. No gun racks or guns in our cars but we did dumb things like stand-up "surfing" in the bed of our friend's pickup as he drove us to McD's or somewhere for lunch, blasting the Beastie Boys "License to Ill" album, Van Halen, or Metallica as we sped out of the school parking lot. Lol. Good times... but also dumb times.
My school had a policy where people from 7-12 grade could leave campus during lunch IF they had a parental permission note on file. Students who were 18 could write their own notes (lots of seniors were 18 or older on any given year, in some years some juniors were 18)
Good cover. Grew up on the original by Brownsville Station. Just a great little rockin' tune by either band. All the instruments are so entertaining and the harmonica deserves a shout out. I had internal suspension for 48 hours in Grade 9 for "Smokin in the Girls Room". Such a brat. I had to sit in the library for 2 whole days. I still snuck out for smoke breaks.🤣🤣😉😉🚬🚬 Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦 🇨🇦
We didn't have to smoke in the bathroom. I graduated 1993, and our school had a designated smoking area outside in a giant painted circle about 50 ft. away from the building. Only rule was you had to be legal smoking age (16), you needed a note from your parents to get a smoking pass for the year, and you couldn't use the smoking area if you were scheduled to be in a class. It was very interesting because by that point the teachers lounge was smoke free so all of the smoking teachers would have to go to the smoking are with the students. I actually built an understanding with some teachers that I would not normally have because we were able to talk casually while having a cigarette. It was a pretty cool time to be in high school.
In the 80’s we had an actual rifle range at our school with 22 caliber rifles. Riflery was a gym class 😂 As for smoking, we had a small wall in the school parking lot where people would smoke. It was totally allowed and teachers would sometimes come out and smoke with the students. Very different times lol
I heard this first when It was played by Brownsville Station. Another good one by them is Martian Boogie. And of course there's always Lindsey Stirling - Crystalize or A River Flows in You
I graduated in 1980 and yea we had a smoking area and the boys had gun racks with their hunting rifles in their trucks. Love Motley Crue! And y'alls reaction to them!
Having graduated in 92, I can say that there was definitely smoking in both middle school and HS. This was definitely an anthem. I didnt smoke but I had friends who were friendly with teachers as they would chat with them while having a smoke. Not a ton, but a couple. Very much a different time.
My English teacher would let me decorate her classroom and clean it instead of study hall. Noticed she smoked the same brand i did. Told if she ever needed one to let me know. She looked at me and winked - said "same"
Guitarist Mick Mars of Mötley Crüe recently announced his retirement from touring but not from the band due to his suffering from Ankylosing Spondylitis (A.S.), a degenerative disease which affects the hips and spine. He’s 71 years old now and can no longer handle the rigors of life on the road. Fortunately he’s still with the band and still able to make music, and in fact he just announced a couple days ago that he’s working on a solo album!
Oh yes, we were bold enough to smoke cigarettes and everything else in the bathrooms! Every single day. Always arrived primed for class. This was in the late 70’s.
When this song first came out in '73, we actually had ashtrays in the bathrooms. It was considered normal. In '76, we had an outdoor courtyard for smokers. Highschool was very different then!
I’d add Cherry Pie - Warrant, also Heartbreak Station and Coming Home by Cinderella, Ride The Wind - Poison, I Still Think About You & Monkey Business by Danger Danger, Don’t Treat Me Bad & Sleeping With You Tonight by Firehouse should be a good addition to those too !!
❤ Smoking WAS allowed in High School in the 1970's on breaks and after lunch outside. They band smoking due to complaints of how bad it looked. So then it became a thing to smoke in the bathroom with someone on the lookout for teachers or principal giving a few knocks on the door if they were coming. Some years later here comes Crue with this song which became a hit due to this being an actual issue.❤
1980s KID HERE. GREW UP IN UPSTATE SC. WE HAD A SMOKING RING NEAR THE CAFETERIA. WE HAD GUN RACKS IN OUR TRUCKS WITH GUNS IN THEM AT SCHOOL. CARRIED POCKET KNIVES IN SCHOOL. NOTHING WILD OR VIOLENT EVER HAPPENED. 1200+ STUDENTS. GO FIGURE. THE CRUE LIVES FOREVER
I graduated high school in 1986. The school had a place where the students could go and smoke outside, it was called the commons area. When school started back in the fall of 1986 kids could no longer smoke at school. But on a cool note we had music in the lunchroom with surround sound. Depending on the day as to what genre of music was playing. We had Rock, Country, Pop, Oldies, R&B, and some Rap.. My mom was the lunchroom manager and it was her idea to put music with surround sound in the lunchroom to try and get more kids to eat lunch instead of going to smoke. LOVE y'alls reactions!!!! Y'all are absolutley my favorite channel. I love to watch y'all discover new music that y'all have never heard before. I know y'all have reacted to Poison but I wish y'all would react to a Poison song when CC was not the lead guitarist. If y'all would PLEASE react to the song "STAND" by Poison. You will not be disappointed. Y'all keep on keeping on 🤟😎😎🤟🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Yes, great cover, rocker and good time song. Try Dr Feelgood from them if you have not heard it already, if you have, take a chance on Winger and their 80s hit video, Headed For a Heartbreak, you will love it, enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶
The principal in this video is Michael Berryman. He's been in a ton of movies and shows. My high school had an open campus for lunch until like 1983 or 84. Seniors were coming back to school drunk. The drinking age was changed to 21 in 1986.
Yes, being a high school student from 83 to 89 I am living proof that we did. It didn't mean we didn't get in big trouble but all we got was detention 😂
Hello guys, following from Costa Rica, I am a gen X in my early 50s who grew up in Canada and the US, you may want to check a special jewel that was not that popular in North America but was quite popular down here, the band is called Sha Boom and the song is Werewolf, you won't be disappointed.
Strange little factoid, I just happen to be looking in a Marine Corps website and the guy that was the original drummer in Brownsville station when they recorded this song had quit the band later joined the Marine Corps became a helicopter pilot and was retiring as a lieutenant colonel. They had short video of him playing drums on the song at his retirement party.
great reaction guys, one of the things about this song is it has a name you never forget and got me thinking about songs with unforgetable names. One that is at the top of my unforgetable song titles list is Aint gonna bump no more (no big fat woman) by Joe Tex a big 70’s disco song full of vibe and fun. I know you like your disco, believe me this will get you out of your seats and put big 😅😅😅 on your faces, you will love it
The ORIGINAL; “Smokin’ In The Boys Room” by Brownsville Station: ua-cam.com/video/Q9zWw0Ru28w/v-deo.html (shout out to Brownsville, the southernmost city in Texas!)
My high school (outside Washington, DC) didn’t ban smoking until 1985. You could only smoke outside, but since we had 3 buildings, this meant that most students were outside between classes several times a day. Despite this, many still smoked in the boys room, but they were usually “Left Handed Lucky’s”. Most people knew which bathrooms to avoid.
Yes, people did smoke in the bathrooms at school. And there used to be a corner right outside the school building. where the kids who smoked used to congregate. Reference: Small rural farm town school in the 1980s. A couple of the kids who had trucks probably had gun racks too.
Yes we smoked in the bathroom. And brushes whose handles were hollow with a sprayer on the end. That was supposed to be for your hairspray so you could keep that hair high. We put vodka in ours.
Ok, teen from the 80's here. I went to high school in Missouri mostly, where guys had gun racks in there trucks with rifles mounted and knives they wore on their belts, myself included. Absolutely no smoking allowed. I went to a school in Santa Rosa, CA for one quarter of my freshman year. No guns, no knives but they had designated smoking sections. It was a culture shock. Went back to MO the next year (after a brief detour to TX).
While not as popular, you might want to check out "Be Crool to you Scuel" (I hope I spelled it correctly) by Twisted Sister and Alice Cooper. And, not school related, Ratt's "You're in Love". Great 80s hair band music!
Coming from a rural city in the late 70's, I can confirm our school had a smoking area, and pretty much every one that drove a pickup truck to school had a gun rack in it and it had a gun or 2 in it. There was a gun safety class in your 10th grade gym class, and even had a skip day designated on the 1st day of hunting season that was an excused absence.
first time I see a channel review this Mötley song, its one of my favorites from my favorite band... it screams cheesy 80's rock, but I love it... the song is so vibe, it has such a nice feel to it... thanks for reacting, love it! I love seeing people enjoy and get baffled by the awesomeness and amazingness of good music, especially glam metal from the 70's and 80's
I was in high school in the 70's in Tennessee. Yes, you could smoke at lunch if you had parents permission. Yes a lot of guys had gun racks, with guns in their trucks. Sometimes you would even bring a new rifle in to show a teacher. And yes boys did still smoke in the boys room.
When I was young. I started listening to Duran Duran, Culture Club etc...and then a new neighbor played me Smokin in the boys room and it was game over....instantly knew what id liked most musically !
I was student "manager" of the wood/metal shop in high school. I had full run of the space when nobody else was there. I would turn on the exhaust fans for the hot metal area and go up into the overhead for a smoke or two. The instructor knew what was going on since the fans moved enough air to make opening the main door difficult
This was off of Crue's album "Theater Of Pain". You should listen to their power ballad "Home Sweet Home" from that same album, it's the best song on there.
Great reaction! Yes, my school had a dedicated smoking wing. It was one of the breezeways that connected the wings of classrooms (It wasn't an enclosed building). We also had an open campus, which meant we could come and go freely, as long as we weren't late for class. We were often late after lunch...I blamed it on Pizza Hut! We had two fast food restaurants next door and one across the street. If you (or friend) had a car, you had more options. Ahh, good times!!
We had a smoking lounge for seniors and juniors. But yes, kids smoked in the bathrooms, we ran the hallways, we skipped classes and our lunches were awesome!
Motley Crue recorded this cover of a 1973 hit by Detroit rockers Brownsville Station for their 3rd album 'Theater of pain', which became another multi-platinum success in 1985. What this video didn't show was the tragedy and drama that came before the album was out... Vince Neil (vocals) was involved in a car accident in 1984, driving while intoxicated... his passenger was drummer Nicholas 'Razzle' Dingley of the Finnish rock band Hanoi Rocks, who was killed... Vince Neil recalled that he was shocked that he walked away "without a scratch" while his friend "died in his arms"...he called himself the "O.J. of the eighties"... "bought himself out of jail"... Neil was jailed for 2 weeks for vehicular manslaughter and given probation, ordered to pay 2.6 million dollars to the occupants of the other vehicle who were injured, so he would spend years paying restitution for the accident. After a rehab stint, Neil returned to record vocals for the album, and the other members were just trashed on drugs & alcohol... Nikki Sixx (bass) was using heroin by that point, and Neil couldn't stay sober in the band. Insiders recalled that after the accident, they saw the misery and guilt in Vince Neil... he also did not like the new songs on the album, but he had no choice. The band had an album and a career waiting, so it was 'go' time. Motley Crue were headlining arenas and were one of the world's biggest rock bands at that point, eclipsing Ozzy, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Scorpions, and the rest...
If you want a fun musical "taste" of the 70's, you need to check out the song by Ray Stevens called "The Streak" about the fad during the 70's where young people would strip down to their tennis shoes and "streak" through a public area.
The group Brownsville Station had the original in 1973. Other Brownsville Station rockers include-I'm The Leader Of The Gang, Kings Of The Party and The Martian Boogie.
Check out 'You're all I need' by Mötley! It's a very unexpected song by them. Jon Bon Jovi reportedly called it 'the best love song around' to Mötley's manager and Nikki Sixx laughed his ass off about it and asked his manager to relay back that Jon should really listen to the lyrics next time. The video was banned by MTV because of (defenitely non-glorified!) domestic violence visualisations, you should defenitely watch it to get the whole picture of this song. It was originally writen by Nikki for his girlfriend at the time who he was certain was cheating on him, true or not, he must have freaked her out when he went over to her place and played her the song as a way to break up. The guy she was cheating with was in the charts with his song 'What I need', the title being referenced was meant to clearly tell his girlfriend that he knew whom she was stepping out with and that it's time to let go of their relationship.
Class of 85… I had smoking areas on my high school campus… and going by the teachers lounge there was a smoke cloud that wafted out every time they opened the door
This was such a huge hit! :D And yeah, kids smoked in the bathrooms in the 70's and 80's. Why not? Most of us stank of cigarettes anyway because our parents smoked (whether we smoked or not - I've never been a smoker, but I reeked of the stuff until I turned 18 and moved out), and I can't tell you how many times I went into the girl's bathroom and caught a teacher taking a quick drag before her next class was about to start because no one wanted to be bothered to go all the way outside to the approved areas to smoke. The school bathrooms always stank of cigarettes when I was growing up (and restaurants, and airplanes, and ... everything until laws got passed in the 90's making indoor smoking illegal everywhere). That's just how it was most places (maybe some rich areas banned indoor smoking sooner, but I was poor so everyplace I went had indoor smoking growing up). :P Sure taught me to never smoke, though! Ugh. So gross. Lol
My parents didn't smoke, but cigarette smoke was so common that I don't recall ever even noticing the smell of anything smoking-related except an actual lit cigarette until the early 2000s. It was just everywhere. My parents even kept ashtrays in the house in case a smoker came over.
@@jawbone78 Same. I was in high school before I had a friend tell me I stank of cigarette smoke for the first time. I'd never noticed before, but couldn't really ignore it after he said something (his parents didn't smoke). It was just so normal back then.
Yep, Jr. Highschool, 2d floor boys bathroom had access to the roof via the window that tilted outwards. The highschool campus had a smoking area outside until the mid '80's.
With Veteran's Day coming up, you should watch Blue oyster cult veteran of psychic War. Do the live version from 81 to hear one of the best guitar solos ever.
i graduated in 1974. We had smoking areas outside. Anywhere in the paring area was good also. The worst part was we had a few teachers that would come out to talk and bum cigarettes from us. LOL. Love ya'll. I had a shotgun and 22 cal. rifle with ammunition in the trunk of my car everyday. Good times to live in.
We actually smoked in the 2nd floor girl's room in high school. We used that one because it had a window that would open. We only used it during class or when passing between classes. On actual breaks, we had a designated smoking area on campus. It was called "Cancer Corner."
I was in high school when this song came out. This video got played a lot on MTV. Kids smoked on the school bus at my high school [sad but true]. They would open the last 3 windows at rear of the bus on both sides of the bus and smoke in the very back seat. I'm glad there were no smartphones back then. lol!
Class of 1978, We had a smoking area in the parking lot where it was allowed. We also had an open campus where not everyone came back from lunch in the same condition as when they left...... I remember many days a group of us girls would go to my friends house during lunch, watch Days of our Lives and either a bit of wine or.....
I graduated in 1974 in south Louisiana and yes we did it all. Going out to the parking lot to smoke a cigarette and drink a beer too. Every truck in the parking lot had guns in their rifle racks because during hunting season we would go hunting right after school. We never had school shootings either because they knew if anyone tried anything like that we would have lit them up like the fourth of July.
..."Class of 76"...Brownsville Station was the original...we got paddled although the teachers and principal wasn't allowed to use 2 hands on the handle...we had a smoking area outside but not allowed in the bathrooms and we were only allowed to carry cigarettes to and from our lockers to the smoking area...we did have gun racks in our pick-ups and frequently had a rifle or shotgun in the rack with the doors unlocked...mini skirts and tube tops were great!
Yes, as a guy who went to school in the early 90s ( in the UK ) I can confirm we did actually smoke in the bathroom. We had one teacher who used to smoke with us until another teacher came, then he would do his job and chase us away. 🤣🤣 Amber, I would love you to get back to Meatloaf, 'Is Nothing Sacred Anymore' 'Life is a Lemon and I Want My Money Back' or 'A Kiss Is A Terrible Thing To Waste' Any of these tracks would put a big smile on that face. 👍🤘
Yessir, strange days. I went to a large high school back in the ‘90s and students were allowed to smoke on one corner of the grounds, but it was a long walk. Gun racks with hunting rifles were common. What I thought was crazy was looking through the old annuals and seeing pictures of seniors partying and drinking beer in the parking lot back in the ‘70s. How times have changed.
We had the smoking doors at our high school (Winnipeg, Canada) where students were allowed to smoke, back in the 80's. It was a small entrance tucked away in the back, but always active :) (Not just cigarettes).
My high school (83-87) literally had no doors on the stalls so people wouldn't secretly smoke (or do other things) in the boys' room. And yes, lots of people had guns in their trucks. Many went hunting right before or after school.
Great cover by Motley Crue, the original by Brownsville Station was awesome
I remember my Uncle Matt telling me about that,he was in high school when the original came out
Was better imho
The original was better, I think.
Agreed!!
Brownsville Station was good. I know of this one song by them off the top of my head, the Martian Boogie.
The Crüe did a fantastic job with this cover. I remember when it came out and we really enjoyed it! If you get a chance, check out the original! We actually did have guns in the vehicles and would go hunt after classes. But blessed to have been a teen in the 80’s!
I think Ratt would've done
a way better job
with a cover of this song.
Yep, multiple gun racks in the back window of pickup trucks at my school in the 80's
@@laustcawz2089 ratt was too busy making shit music
I always thought this is one of the very few remakes that I think is better than the original.

Movie “Dazed and Confused” is really pretty close to High School in the 70’s
Was actually 1985. Dr feel good was from 1989

My husband called his character, " a chrome dome with the worst rug, ever!"
This song was originally done by the Brownsville Station in 1973 FYI,love your reactions, keep up the great work
Seven songs down the Motley Crue road, and you're doing great. I recommend "Too Young to Fall in Love". The video is pure 80s cheesy awesomeness. Also... this song is a cover of a 1973 song by Brownsville Station. I think you'd like the original.
Yes the Originals are Usually way better than the cover
The original song was by the Brownsville Station. It's pretty good too. You should check their version.
The original is much better!
Agreed it is a good song for sure but when I saw them and Slade they were vaporized by Ronnie Montrose.
@@magneto7930 Much better yes..
The 1984 movie Teachers is a good movie I think you guys would like it
I'm 74, we had student smoking areas when I was in high school. I attended high school in Chicago, Denver, and a little town in North Carolina, all 3 high schools had smoking areas for students. Yep, gun rakes in our trucks, in the country not cities, I grew up as much in the country as the cities.
This Motley Crue song was kind of an anthem to those of us in school during the 80s. Some of us actually did stuff like this.
It's not a Crue song. It's a cover of the original from Brownsville Station
@@randallbundy108 I'm aware of that. My point was that I liked their version.
it was a rite of passage back in the day
@@randallbundy108 You tell em Randall The 80s loved to cover so many 70s songs This was just 1of maybe 100 Starting with I love rock and roll By The Arrows in 1975,
I used to smoke in high school but only after meals though, I used to go smoke in the toilet in the vocational building at my High School.
Fun cover!! Try “Classical Gas” by Mason Williams in 1968!!🤘🔥
My school had a designated smoking area, but I was envious of another nearby high school that had an "open campus".
I remember going to the teachers lounge in middle school around 78-79 and when the door opened the smoke was so thick it set me coughing.
@@ganggreen9012 Yeah, we had that when I was in Jr high, but by the time I was 16 they banned indoor smoking in my school.
Looks that Kill is one of their biggest bangers and is a must listen!
Yup 1981 here
1978 rural Kansas
Having graduated in 92, I can say that there was definitely smoking in both middle school and HS. This was definitely an anthem. I didnt smoke but I had friends who were friendly with teachers as they would chat with them while having a smoke. Not a ton, but a couple. Very much a different time.
My English teacher would let me decorate her classroom and clean it instead of study hall. Noticed she smoked the same brand i did. Told if she ever needed one to let me know. She looked at me and winked - said "same"
Class of 92 here too!
There was smoking in the teachers lounge. They smoked in class in the University. lol
95 here and I can concur
My high school had a smoking area off the cafeteria that as long as you were 18 could go smoke in, it was nasty, hehe. Class of 86.
Straight back to the 80s and my youth. Im here for it
This was a hit in the 70s All ready before the 80s were in diapers lol All in Fun But True
When this song first came out in '73, we actually had ashtrays in the bathrooms. It was considered normal. In '76, we had an outdoor courtyard for smokers. Highschool was very different then!
Shelter Me please from Cinderella, Jackyl's lumberjack please. JAY you will love the actual chain saw in the song.
I'm still waiting with you. C'mon Rob and Amber
yes there was smoking sidewalks.
Y'all keep on keeping on 🤟😎😎🤟🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
This was originally done by a group called Brownsville Station. Check out a song by them called "Martin Boogie"
🙂
Yes, great cover, rocker and good time song. Try Dr Feelgood from them if you have not heard it already, if you have, take a chance on Winger and their 80s hit video, Headed For a Heartbreak, you will love it, enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶
Brownsville Station did the original, but the Crue did this right in the remake.
That “principal” was in everything. Loved him in Weird Science. 😊
Same years here!
88 grad here! Damn I still miss the 80s.
Same. Class of '89 :)
@@xzonia1 me as well
Same in 1976 threw 79 When smoking in the boys room was just 3 years old at the time
80s metal was so much fun. Going to the concerts and buying the albums, and cassettes for cruisin' with friends. Best times ever!
Didnt you get mixed up lol Looking at the bands they all looked like CHICKS LOL , Never liked the big hair bands THEY ALL SOUNDED THE SAME
Hello guys, following from Costa Rica, I am a gen X in my early 50s who grew up in Canada and the US, you may want to check a special jewel that was not that popular in North America but was quite popular down here, the band is called Sha Boom and the song is Werewolf, you won't be disappointed.
Crüe never let's us down! This is one of their best covers. I also love their cover of "Helter Skelter" and "Jailhouse Rock."
Being a Highschool freshman in 1977, there was smoking in the boys room! And yes gun racks in the back window of trucks. Man how times have changed!!
You really need check out the bassist, Nikki Sixx's other band, Sixx AM. Life is Beautiful is a fantastic song. I love this song, so fun!
great reaction guys, one of the things about this song is it has a name you never forget and got me thinking about songs with unforgetable names. One that is at the top of my unforgetable song titles list is Aint gonna bump no more (no big fat woman) by Joe Tex a big 70’s disco song full of vibe and fun. I know you like your disco, believe me this will get you out of your seats and put big 😅😅😅 on your faces, you will love it
that Joe Tex song has the most hilarious video too 😂
The ORIGINAL;
“Smokin’ In The Boys Room” by Brownsville Station:

(shout out to Brownsville, the southernmost city in Texas!)
Hey, Guys!!!! YOU HAVE TO check out "You're all I need", it's an awsome ballad, with a rather gruesome subject!
The original was by Brownsville Station. The Crue did a GREAT cover. We also had gun safety classes in grade school.
As a kid of the 80s, we were able to smoke outside in the "designated areas" during breaks.
originally written and recorded by Brownsville Station. Who also had a minor hit Martian Boogie
Same ol’ situation , Sumthin for Nuthin ,Don’t go away mad , Without you , Time for change , She goes down all great songs
Yes that is an incredible harmonica solo by the lead singer - Vince Neil.
I went to high school in the 80’s and there was lots of smoking in the bathroom and the parking lot.
first time I see a channel review this Mötley song, its one of my favorites from my favorite band... it screams cheesy 80's rock, but I love it... the song is so vibe, it has such a nice feel to it... thanks for reacting, love it! I love seeing people enjoy and get baffled by the awesomeness and amazingness of good music, especially glam metal from the 70's and 80's
I would like to add that the great Michael Berryman played the principal. Amazing actor!
This is one their best songs in my opinion. I recommend Too Young To Fall In Love or Looks That Kill as next Crue songs.
The guy that plays the principal actually was in the movie Weird Science from back in the 80's. He played a bad ass biker. Totally hilarious movie!
Smoking is stupid & pointless, but this song is awesome! I like the original even more. It's by Brownsville Station (1974).
Primal scream by Motley Crue is a heavy bluesy hard rock song.
You should check out Vince Neil's Solo stuff
Vince Neil - You' re Invited (But Your Friend Can' t Come )
This was from the movie Encino Man
Love that song it's always been one of my favorites ❤❤❤
Just a heads up, this is a cover for Motley Crue. The original group that released the song was Brownsville Station.
With Veteran's Day coming up, you should watch Blue oyster cult veteran of psychic War. Do the live version from 81 to hear one of the best guitar solos ever.
A cool cover song. Remember the video back when MTV played music videos.
i graduated in 1974.
Yay! I been trying to get this one played for a long time!! Thanks!! 🔥😎🤘
Yes, as a guy who went to school in the early 90s ( in the UK ) I can confirm we did actually smoke in the bathroom. We had one teacher who used to smoke with us until another teacher came, then he would do his job and chase us away. 🤣🤣
Amber, I would love you to get back to Meatloaf,
'Is Nothing Sacred Anymore' 'Life is a Lemon and I Want My Money Back' or 'A Kiss Is A Terrible Thing To Waste'
Any of these tracks would put a big smile on that face. 👍🤘
Them guys were insane
Yessir, strange days. I went to a large high school back in the ‘90s and students were allowed to smoke on one corner of the grounds, but it was a long walk. Gun racks with hunting rifles were common. What I thought was crazy was looking through the old annuals and seeing pictures of seniors partying and drinking beer in the parking lot back in the ‘70s. How times have changed.
"Looks That Kill" next.
The high school where I went (78-81) actually had a designated smoking area. It was a 20x20 piece of blacktop between 2 buildings.
