I'm just happy i bought the 16-core version with 8TB of internal storage. These seem to be the most "complicated" to replace our swap out. I have the W5700X GPU and 96GB ram. This configuration will last me for at least 5yrs if not double that. I have a Mac Pro 2013 as well but that one wasn't able to do any upgrades besides the ram or internal storage. With my Mac Pro 2019 i can swap out the CPU if needed or get another GPU if needed. But i doubt i will need any of those two in the next couple of years. And no, i'm not worried about the Apple Silicon chips. I simply don't care because it will only be by the end of 2022 that we'll actually something for the Mac Pro, and even then, my Mac Pro won't be obsolete. I produce music and do graphic (web) design. I do a tiny bit of video-editing so, i'm happy with the setup i got right now! 😎
hey atti the radeon vii is not powerfull enough to saturate the bandwith off an x8 pcie slot so you can use it with no problem for exemple apple run two of them inside a single x16 slot with the vega duo , also a little advice there is no custom radeon vii on the market so if it is to loud for you there is some custom air cooler for the vega ii like the arctic accelero xtreme iv that will run it quieter and cooler :)
Hey Rayane, thanks for all the advice 😉. Are you sure about the bandwidth of the Radeon VII? While I was running it as an eGPU on my MacBook Pro it only had x8 and it always did fall short compared to other setups. I also noticed that in the Mac Pro it scores about 10k Points more under Geekbench (bit.ly/AttiGeekbench). Regarding the noise I think it only gets annoying while gaming 😅. At this point I'm really looking forward to the Radeon VII Pro. Linking two of those good be a gamechanger.
@@AttiBear thunderbolt 3 is 4 gigabyte/second where pcie x8 3.0 is 8 gigabyte/seconde so thats why it fall short on an egpu 1 pcie lane 3.0 = aproximatively 1 gigabyte second
@@AttiBear Its a work of art! but there are several new options now, you should look for the Pro Caddy V, allows up to 10 SSD, pretty neat if you ask me. Maybe you can print a design that is modeled after that
I'M a Cinema4D user and was wandering if the Vega RTX3090 works on a mac pro? I mean does it even fit inside the mac pro tower? I basically need a lot of power for rendering projects 3d scenes and animations. Thank you.
Hey Ian, you probably can fit the RTX3090 but I doubt you'll have much fun with it under MacOS. It's just not optimised for Nvidia. You could however run it under bootcamp but then it would be much easier and cheeper to just run it on a regular Windows rig 😉
Yeah at this point there's absolutely no reason for Apple to go back to Intel at all. The Silicon chipsets are amazing. Especially if you factor in their Power Efficiency.
The 8 core CPU work with 2666 MHZ speed, but the memory that has install are 2933 Mhz. I think the system down the speed frequency automatically to work with the 8 core CPU, right? I open my Mac and the memory installed say 2933 Mhz. This mean I can buy more memory of 2933 Mhz and add to my actual 32 gb of ram?
Correct! The CPU clock will limit the Memory. If you want to upgrade your memory definitely go with the 2933Mhz Clock speed. This way when you upgrade your CPU a few years down the line, it won't be throttled.

The Radeon VII also goes crazy if the Mac Pro enters sleep mode. I have high hopes for the Radeon PRO VII

Didn’t have any 😉. It still works flawlessly. I even removed my 580x cause it somehow was limiting the Radeon VII‘s Performance
