- David Silveria vs. Ray Luzier (Song: Somebody Someone) | KoЯn. Who do you think is better, Ray Luzier or David Silvera? Thank you for watching! Please like, share and subscribe!
David just had that self taught groove that was almost hip hop. That's just what gave Korn their sound.
I'm not saying one is better but, when I was young, David's drumming was an addiction to me. It helped me sleep at night. One of my hero's, and I miss his face.
Check out Core 10.... not all that great but David is playing with them now they’ve started a new band. His face looks fat but he’s buff as shit now
@@twanzilla4838 David isn't in Core 10 he is in Bias
I think he is still in Core 10.
@@mod3rnwarrior34 Nah he isn't facebook.com/biasbandoc/?__xts__[0]=68.ARA5RGTUHT422M5aLzVKDWlhhB5nATNzn2MYCMC5wKNOCs2N5tWm6i8yGp_i1-0F0nkn4KRiINYLEaFUT-lgPgjS37wWyXjyCs2dQQqPZ_q6LlAI0Ap3V5Jhzsp9R4bo7m5mXDsJbvyNU3na_PywPzhMklFC7h3DLQ8R_kb3xTiz2v8mHe6ydjHv9lnaqNGQimo1UQ-5l-UwPAJXKKqNf-u_-TtXGQd1dx5y20dDxfM2PIRs3ekkW2n7zaKoo4BdTLluYVgvPgeXtl9I8GLLk2KSSpuPW87pT-L2k5HDz50pAhneXIx2NyCPJzwUs7SkQ3pUB70Huw8qxabYHcXdchjvRtGt&__tn__=HHH-R
Oh! cool! Thanks man I don’t know why David left Core 10, but I am happy that he is still in a band. Thanks for watching!!!
Ones a session drummer, the other is a legend.
Nailed
David was never a session drummer
@@alexander7590 Whoa got em
@Walter B of course
Well Ray Luzier is a very technical drummer but David Silveria had that groove that always brought the best of the Korn sound. I really miss David with Korn and I think its kinda shitty that there is a lingering feud with the band and David
++++++
Ray is good ...but predictable and sounds like everything else ....David played out of the box ..
Both are great drummers in their own way but I prefer David Silveria because he is the original drummer and his grooves is what made the korn sound amazing.
David was one of my favorite drummers in my teen years and he really influenced my drumming style back then. Korn isn’t Korn without him in my opinion.
Ray Luzier is one of the hardest working and most impressive drummers in rock music today. Personally, I'm a huge fan of what he's brought to KoЯn. The first time I heard him play Blind, I was absolutely blown away.
He has changed the sound of the band in a subtle way that probably is what splits the camps between the two drummers: he's helped to make KoЯn a tighter band. With David, the vibe wavered, it wasn't necessarily right on the beat. With Ray, everything is on with pinpoint accuracy. It's not that one is "right" and one is "wrong," they just give the band different vibes. And which vibe you prefer will guide which drummer you prefer. For me, I find that KoЯn is playing the best they ever have and think the tighter sound really works well.
Can u name a song that instantly u can tell its ray? Ur right he’s technically good but what makes a great song to have that instantaneous feel flow. Listen to david piece u can tell its his. No disrespect to ray
@@virada630 You are overthinking it. What gives a song "groove" is the music... and good drummers will simply sink up with the groove. Ray has tons of good "groove" moments, but again, it's dependent upon the music that the drums are working with. Rotting in Vain for instance has some great old school groove to it, because the music asks that of him... same thing with Black is the Soul and plenty others. He can play whatever he wants and however he wants which is what separates him from David. David is a decent drummer, but I think he sounded the way that he did because he simply wan't as good as Ray, lol... it worked for what Korn was back in the day... and Ray works for how they've progressed.
Mr. Nerve Damage no disrespect to you ray lol. Nice having a conversation with you. Hey guys Mr nerve damage is aka ray of korn. Ray ur a great drummer no doubt, if i want a drummer in 10 mins thats you and thats how i find u great. However as korn true fan sorry man.
The sound and style is originally David's Ray never knew that style till he started studying Korn so the better artist was David but drummer Ray for sure.
I was listening to david's concerts and comparing to ray and joey. It's like he's on a perfect balance between madness and tempo. Here to stay is a good example. Listen to that hammerhead 2005 concert, start of the song where goes into the groove with hihat. It feels like he's muting the hihat slightly too late every time, and as a drummer it drives me insane but... somehow it stays together and pulls you in with every beat. With ray's on-tempo drums you just slightly nod your head, with david's groove you feel like rocking with your whole body. Also a thing he did that neither ray nor joey did is his strong bursts of bass/snare that hit you in waves together with guitars.
I think he also played ever so slightly slower than ray. Ray definitely feels like more technical drummer, but hardly anyone can play stoner drums like david.
Ray is definitely and objectively superior because he is trained, BUT David Silveria is a legend in rock music and nothing can take that merit away from him.
His drumming in the 90's was... wow. Never have I heard ANYONE say anything negative about David's performance.
It took me like 10 years to accept ray as the drummer. Now that I am a professional music producer and engineer, I hear how off tempo and sloppy David’s playing was... but those songs wouldn’t sound the same with a click track so it kind of made them what they were... Ray has much more control and is solid as a clock when it comes to playing on time. I do enjoy David’s parts more. It was like a whole other instrument as opposed to just keeping the rhythm.
Wait, so if his style is “sloppy” wouldn’t that mean it’s technically bad? Yet somehow it’s good (in context) to what the band is playing?
@@InnerGuidanceTribe technically sloppy, sure, but sometimes when you play a song to a click and it’s the same tempo the whole way through, it loses its dynamics. It’s natural ebb and flow. It’s ability to breathe and come alive
Sloppy was the Korn sound. I miss Davids garage style. To me it has more feel.
Ray is hands down a more skilled drummer. I can only somewhat agree that David is the sound of korn. David was often sloppy imo. Ray has a ton of feel and talent, but don't forget how much of a show men he is too. Ray!!
The only time david was sloppy was when he broke his wrist, and when he broke his back ! Which isn't surprising but when david was at full health his drumming was very tight !
Ray and David just have completely different styles . Ray is a great drummer, his fills are good and gives a solid rock beat that never misses the tempo. But David had a flair for break and off beats , which complemented fieldys slap bass style giving Korn a hip hop undertone. Which is very noticable in korns early stuff, especially the 1st 3 albums, whilst serenity of suffering is a great album. Its sounds more straight up rock, because it's missing those break beats that gave korn a more distinctive sound. The 1st time I heard rotting in vain I couldn't tell it was korn until Johnathan started singing. When I first heard freak on a leash I could instantly tell it was a korn song just by David's drumming and fieldys bass riffs.
Ya rays good no doubt there but David's style and this groove he had like a hip hop feel to his style of drumming is unreplaceable.
In my opinion, both Ray and David are great drummers. David carries the nostalgia and the roots of KoЯn and Ray brings the new energy and style to KoЯn! Thanks for watching!
absolutely david brought funk to metal. miss him
100% Agreed my man .💞
@@mod3rnwarrior34 David is the real KORN fuck your Ray Luzier's new energy shit fuck you .
@@mod3rnwarrior34 dont really feel that ''new'' energy. David is heavy duty drummer. monster
THEY BOTH ARE GREAT DRUMMERS. AND THEY BOTH HAVE HEART.
Korn rhythm is David s.. no one can change his drum beat.
David is mind blowingly phenomenal, so perfect!
David took Korn for granted and quit in 2006. He also sold his drums and quit playing for a long time. Ray learned 30 Korn tunes for his Korn audition where he was asked to learn 5. Ray aced the audition and has been with Korn since 2007. Ray is a drum fanatic and would never quit. Ray is Here to Stay in Korn!
Mike Ratherson the selling his drums thing was just a rumor...hes still playing his old korn kits in his new band BIAS
Umarım kalmaya devam eder
When I think of the 3 drummers who motivated me to play the drums, I think of David Silveria, John Otto, and Chad Sexton. That being said, I caught a Korn show a year or two ago with Ray Luzier playing, and he impressed me a lot. I can't say one is better than the other, but I appreciate them for different reasons. David's style was original (at least from my perspective), but Ray is obviously an amazing player, and he really seemed to put effort into playing the drums parts as they were written by David originally. So props to both, David for starting it, and Ray for keeping it alive and pretty true to the originals.
Well said! I have to agree!!
I remember watching MTV back in 98 or 99 and saw a clip of a live korn show, i believe it was either from family values or rock is dead tour, and when the camera zoomed in on david, i was hooked on his energy. Been a fan ever since, he was the reason i had picked up the drumsticks.
Me too
David silveria the best
Off course Ray is great and all but, who created all those amazing beats that have been playing in your head for decades?
That was Alex Van Halen
spot on !
Danny Carey
Mike Portnoy
I'd say that are both great! No need to compare
I remember Ray talking about how Jon and them wanted him as a whole for a drummer. They didn’t want him to play like David which I’m sure he could play the same exact notes. Instead they wanted that Luzier flare. Which he brings. Korn is different with Ray and Head in the line up. It just works well. Like with Dave. Korn wouldn’t be the band they were back then and today without both of these guys.
david is the sound of korn!!!!
Ray is the drumer of korn!!!
True!respect!
Nail on the head. Thank you
Well Phrased 🤟
Very well put
Says the person who can't even spell drummer, Ray is KoRn whether you like it or not. He has now officially been with KoRn longer than David was and he left, he wasn't kicked out or anything. He is gone and Ray is Here To Stay.
ray might be good but david is korn
I definitely love both David and Ray. David carries the nostalgia and the roots of KoЯn and Ray carries the new energy and the unique styles that also show great capability just like David. Both are great drummers!
Thank you for watching!
Ray doesn’t do it for me, he fills space with excess beats just cos he can, not cos he should. David is KoRn. Ray is The Jon Show.
If only David was more drama free he would still be with Korn, but he blew it.
Definitely... See u on the other side was the last Amazing Rock album I’m preying for the new Static x.
Ray is technical and more proficient, but David has that groove that made Korn unique. David pioneered that Nu-Metal sound. Without David, it wouldn't be what it was.
We need a drummer with David's creativity and groove with ray's skill and pinpoint accuracy
David Silvera
David is an awesome drummer. In my opinion, David carries the roots and the nostalgia of KoЯn and Ray brings the new energy and unique power to KoЯn! They are both great drummers! Thanks for watching!
you're welcome :)
Its easy. Who was the drummer on Korn's greatest records? Who was a big big part of their unique sound? Who created those iconic unique drum beats? Silveria is the man, no doubt about that!! You might disagree, but listen to the albums with Ray on drums and there won't be anything worth remembering.
Ray is steady and dependable which is great. David is unique and unpredictable. His fills come where you don't expect it. I like both drummers for Korn. They both work well but if I could choose who played with them, it would be David. He had that sound.
@@greezythumb Yep
I like david silveria because he is a unique and energic drumming i love his style david silveria one of the most influential by band and he's never be forgotten
I miss David! Maybe there will be a KoЯn reunion soon.
SILVERIA EL MEJOR 💯
I would listen to Korn as a teen then I stop because people change we get older. I heard some new stuff and didn't like mostly because of the drummer. I didn't know David left the group until much later on. There was something he did that made it raw, interesting and fun. Something I wasn't hearing from any other band. He also seem sometimes to not even go with the flow of the group but still felt in synced. He wasn't the best drummer I heard but he can be replaced. Korn isn't Korn with out him. The drumming was very significant and to me was one of Korns signatures. It's lots now. Thanks for the memories.
Ray luzier..... The best drummer for Korn
Ray Luzier ♥️♥️♥️🔥
Silveria always - beats those drums to within an inch of their life!!
Ray is on another level
For me: Groove/Style>Level..
Both are great drummers... no comparison...
Always DAVID SILVERIA, the sound of KoRn
Korn with Ray, Is like AIC with Duvall, good, but never as good as it was with Layne, but we make the most of it.
Ray is a better drummer... and regardless of whether or not David's basic drumming sounded *right for Korn back in the day... their sound now works just fine with Ray's skillset. Ray still has plenty of groove, but also the sheer talent to do other things that mesh with the newer songs.
David - best!
no matter who the best is ,this is business and they must love each other
Much respect to both drummers.
I could understand how David is appreciated as the original 'Korn Sound', with his history and hip hop vibes back then.
But to me, (imo) Ray stepped up the game for all the rest of the Korn members, with Ray being THAT INSANELY good of a drummer+percussionist+musician, u just cant fu*k around writing shitty songs...forces the whole band to GROW as musicians...
For anyone who cant appreciate Ray just yet, i recommend u get your wallet out and BUY their 2016 album (Serenity Of Suffering). Just the dumming is worth your money, and Korn is sounding fresh as ever.
As for the question, David or Ray? I would never say who is better than who though. Just my opinion. Now let's get back to enjoying Korn of all eras.
There's gonna be haters on either guy, but one can't deny the cold hard fact that Korn isn't Korn without David's signature style during their beginnings. Listen to the first 3 albums and try to say that Ray can mold the band playing those same songs front to back with his style. It doesn't work.
I do agree that David carries the roots of the band, but in my opinion, Ray puts his own unique style into the new KoЯn songs. Obviously Ray is not going to be exactly the same because if he was, then he would be copying off of David. I believe that both are good drummers!!! Thank you for watching!
Actually when Head left the groove went away. He came back groove re-established it's self. Even Ray was always saying something was missing. Keep in mind Ray wasn't part of the band before Head left. Said that Munky and Head were like twins , like they share a brain. And that was within the first few practices of Head being back.
I'm not knocking David. I think he's a great drummer. And there is a slightly different groove without him there. That's all. Maybe one day we will get at least one more album with the whole band...
I really like Luzier, but to me Silveria is perfect in Korn music.
Ray Luzier Forever ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
I love both of them. They have both been a very good inspiration to me in my own drumming. I still think Dave has the Korn sound though and the creativity
Ray, hands down. I thought for sure I was going to pick David, with Issues being my favorite album.
Ray's fills blow David's out the door and his transitions are smoother !!! I saw Korn here at Woodstock in Rome NY where I live and actually David was a loose cannon and pretty sloppy on drums but Ray is spot on much more professional as a drummer. David was actually a great drummer just needed more self discipline. !!
Ray all Day!
Both are great drummers no doubt, each has their own signature but Korn to me was always the OG sound with David
They're both so good
David invented the groove that uses fills in any part of a song... and not just as a filler. Ray is the umami. Both are awesome.
I'm a Drummer of 20 yrs. and David played the Same. Fucking. Beat. On. Every Song!! It was Boring! Ray fuckin brought that Fire back!! Plus he is very Kind!
HEAD MUNKY JD DAVID FIELDY ORIGINAL 5 FOREVER!!!! OG KoRn is tha best!!!
There both great drummers at what they do. David always brought that old school FEEL to the table which made KoRn that really emotional band that we all tended to love. On the other hand Ray still brings feel to the spectrum but not nearly as much as David did with him really getting into songs and banging on the skins that meant something. Ray is a shy guy if you notice in any interview he doesn’t get too much talk on how he feels about stuff and what not. I personally love both but if I had to pick 1 it would be David just cause his raw emotion he brought really made KoRn look and sound kool! Plus I looked up to David wanting to spike my hair and bleach it blonde back in high school.
I vote for David
I love David performance, i grow up with his masterpiece!, but Ray is the best drummer in the world today!!!
I agree! I think that they both are great drummers that have unique styles and capabilities! Thank you for watching!!!
Ray, best drummer in the world?!? Are you high on crack, kid?
Numbskull Ali David’s work carries the nostalgia and the roots of KoЯn and Ray’s work carries the new energy and style of KoЯn. That is my opinion. You are fully entitled to you opinion, that is why I created this video, to see what other people think. Thanks for watching bro!
Ray is definitely a solid drummer, but if you think he's the best you should definitely spend a little time on UA-cam watching other drummers.
Mark Brock It’s all opinion, if you think that Ray is not the best drummer it’s cool. In my opinion they are both great drummers in the KoRn realm. There are most likely better drummers than both Silvera and Luzier but that does not make them bad drummers at all! Thanks for watching!!!
Ray is such an inspiration to me. I'm a drummer myself and I've learned so much from him. There are so many techniques I "stole" from him. I choose Ray just because he's so much more technically advanced than David, even though David set the precedent for how most of the old songs sounded. I love all the twists that Ray puts into the songs that David recorded.
Ray is definitely a magnificent drummer. I love how Ray holds one hand up in the air before he hits a drum sometimes. I also enjoy how Ray puts his own character into David’s songs!
Josh VanAtta well said
"most of the old songs sounded", you mean all the old songs that are by far the greates Korn songs. David was the man
Respect for both of these great modern drummers!
FOR ME, Ray has added a slight edge to the percussion that I believe David lacked only slightly, double bass and fills that shine light on the drums. Ray is one hard working man, he is what I believe is a true percussionist, not just a drummer (African percussion, etc, etc, he can do just about any area needed)... Also, Ray is one of the nicest people you would ever like to meet. David ehhh... David is still a great drummer and an ok personality to go with it.
David is Korn, but Ray has two thumbs way up from me.
Again, respect to both of these professionals.
I truly like both drummers, but I too agree with most, Silveria IS KORN. He just has that “groovy pocket” along with crazy ass bells and whistles. It worked so well with the guitars of Munky and Head, and Fieldy’s sloppy Rhythm. IMO, Brooks Wackerman, who along with Terry Bozzio, filled in For David on the Self Titled (untitled) LP, would be the only guy that could replace David. He Made is bones playing with Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves, the Grandfathers of Numetal. He’s as groovy as Silveria and has the technical chops to play with anybody.
Dave makes the sound rougher and deeper, Ray makes it tight as f### tecnical and more metal. Ray fits the Korn sound better matches the unique bass sound, more mature.
How long do you know Korn? 3 , 4 years for sure
The fact of the matter is Ray is a nerd and thats not what you want on drums, you want someone like david. He gave the band the flavor that it had
Ray
Miss D!
David Silveria is and always will be; for me, THE drummer of Korn. It's like having a good recipe. Once you try to substitute one of the main ingredients for something else, it doesn't taste right. Ray Luzier, is a good drummer in his own rite, I just dont believe he is the best drummer for Korn. Like many of us I have LOOOOOOVVVVVEEEEEDDD Korn from day one, since I was in High School, Back in the day. I will always remain faithful to them. But their latest albums with Luzier, have been hard to swallow and just sound weak and diluted compared to the angry/sexy sound of Silveria. I wish the band and Silveria could some how rectify their issues, but unfortunately it doesn't look as if any resolution between these two is coming any time soon. My prayer is that it does. I know fans would be SSSSSOOOOOOO Stoked!
sin duda David the original hard song
"HIT IT RAY" ALL THE WAY........ !!
I stick up for Ray he is a great drummer n loyal to the fans but fkn hell David fills that song up and definately funks it up and I actual air drum wen David plays n my head bobs n all that. There's a noticable difference. I fkn miss 90s KoRn a lot actually. Chi wouldn't have been the same without David.
David Silveria
Los dos son geniales
Si!
I would vote for david to be in the band. But ray is no bum on the drums. It is safe to say I just like the original sound to korn.
wouldnt be a question if there was no david! stil no question- DAVID 1000%
Is more about who u prefer than who’s the best
Ray a great technical drummer
David a great raw drummer
But David “create” a drum still
I’m going with David
Ray is a great drummer but one of the problems he has is that he doesn't let his cymbals breath. Like doesn't give them the chance to fully express their sound. Probably that's why he uses such thin cymbals but that's exactly my point. Take a look at David's Rude or 2002 Paistes.
David fuck yeah!!!🖖
David Silveria's style fits Korn's music better. Ray might be faster , more skilled etc etc but David's style is old school and more classical straightforward and deliberately uncomplicated making it a "PRIMAL BEAT".
That is what Korn lost. THAT PRIMAL SIMPLE BEAT with strong forceful drumming which gave the songs that edge.
David's drumming is more pop-ish and since its simple - our ears pick the rhythm easier.
Ray's drumming accompanies the band while David's drumming was the foundation where others just stick their instruments.
The difference is huge and David always had that feeling how to make a pop beat (a beat easy to pick up) . This is what is missing in KOrn.
The band now has no direction and still experiment with new and new stuff every 3rd song.
David was the one that gave the band direction. Yes he is an ass-he has been an ass all his life. But all bands have assholes and thats how humanity works.
Korn will never be the Korn they once were in terms of populatiry and song strenght.
So idk who has to swallow his ego but without that inner struggle korn is lost. Seriously-Ray is a Yes man compared to David who held his own in the band. There is a difference and huge one.
Ray is the better drummer who has taken KORN to new heights as a band. Dave was great for his time. There is a reason Ray has been in the band for so long and he won’t be going anywhere. They’d be real fucking stupid to lose Ray to bring back Dave for nostalgia purposes.
They’re both fantastic drummers. Even though David helped mold the band into what it is today, and Ray has fantastic technique and energy, idk I think it’s a draw.
David Silveria es otro nivel 🔥
David 🤘🤘🤘
david silviera forever the son of korn
David
Ray is more skilled. But we can't hear shit on their new album! So David wins, cause we actually get to hear the drums, not confuse them with Fieldy's bass!
david hands down . Not because of talent ......because of FEEL . David was perfect for those songs . Ray is perfect for the NEW Korn.
Ray Luzier is to Korn what Gavin Harrison has been to Porcupine Tree... but nothing like Mangini is to Dream Theater... 😁
lol
They are both awesome drummers I would say different styles, the thing is that for whatever reason the band likes Ray and they are keeping him... they don't want David back.
Saldy David took some years out, until 2011, 2012 I believe- they don't wanna continue finding a Drummer or replacement each time. However David was unique and better suited for Korn, I really miss him
yeah ill go with the guy who wrote the grooves. David is the backbone of what we all came to love as the very unique KoRn sound. Ray does a great job playing the songs but is not naturally inclined to the same grooves nor approach that shaped the sound of the band. Im sure they have a business and working arrangement that suits both but there's no real contest, David is Korn.
By the playing style I choose Ray! It’s always fun to see Ray flipping the stick in some songs
Yes, i also do like circus tricks
Back in a days, David's skills was much stronger than now and his grooves definitely made Korn's sound unique. But it was long time ago. What about Ray? If we talking about technique, then Ray is much stronger as a musician than David. It's a fact.
Ray. Is way better at least to my perception. Just more refined. David is good and most important he is part of the formula of korn. Ray does a good job but its like drinking decaffeinated coffe
David’s drumming was perfect for early korn but he was kind of a one trick pony and rays drumming really fits korn now.
Ray is a top 5 drummer in the world.
Silvera!!!
Sin David es imposible que exista un Ray... No sé pusieron a pensar...
cada uno tiene su toque pero pienso que david silveria las toca mejor porque el fue supuestamente el que compuso esos beats
korn forever!
DAVID
DAVID!
ray can do what david can't!!!
And David can do what Ray can't!
And David can do what Ray can't!
Ray is more tight and technical and David is very clever with his beats
Ray all the way! I grew up on old Korn, but ray is tighter. And to be honest, go listen to their new album “the nothing”. This is probably the tightest Korn has ever been. The drummer holds the band up. And ray has pushed Korn to a level they haven’t ever been. Team Ray all the way!
