A performance at one of Ray's clinics at Seminole Music in FL 11-08. Shane Gibson recorded all the music for the this medley. Mixed and video by Casey Grillo.
The fact that he put so much "performance" into this even though it was just a drum clinic and not a Korn show is amazing to me. Shows how much he loves what he does!! This was so much fun to watch!
I love watching him play and I’ve probably watched this video dozens of times at this point. Dude plays the drums like his life depends on it. The combination of passion, energy, and skill is unparalleled.
I honestly think people are intimidated when they see this level of talent up close. They're all used to walking around all stiff and uptight, doing and saying the right thing.... they're probably pretty good drummers. Then they sit five feet from this guy and energy is just pouring out of him.... there's practically sparks coming off him. It's probably pretty overwhelming for most people.
Agreed, I attended the clinic for Michael Henry "Nicko" McBrain of Iron Maiden and its not that we don't appreciate what they are doing, as drummers we are taking it all in trying to figure out how he is doing what he is doing, playing along in our heads try not to air drum and smack the person next to us. Its a rare learning experience that we will probably only see once in our lives and we don't want to waste what they have taken the time out of their extremely busy schedule to allow us this up close and personal experience. I was 100 feet away and was not able to get this close, we had a monitor to watch though. Also what they didn't show was where he broke down specialized beats and began teaching.
Old-school with the long hair, stash, denim shirt, blue jeans and a backwards hat was genuinely into this outta everyone. All I noticed was Ray's awesome playing and Old-school digging it. That's how you want your fans too be like anywhere you go. That kids lucky to have a cool I'm assuming father to go rock out with you, that's awesome🤘

To respond to "that crowd was lame" comments: It was a drum clinic. Most everyone in there (myself included) were drummers and we were really paying attention to exactly what Ray was doing. It was a lesson and we were focusing on his technique and style. Were we supposed to be jumping around headbanging? This wasn't a concert, it was a tutorial. That medley was how he started the clinic, which went about an hour. Almost everything after that intro medley was him talking about style and approach to playing drums. He gave lots of good info and examples that everyone there could try on their own drums. Trust me, we were all very into it and amazed. We didn't want to miss a thing so we paid very close attention. Thus the "zombie" crowd. Idiots.
Tony Powell literally 4 seconds into the video the crowd is showing appreciation. And again at the end. Everything during the performance was a crowd intensely fixated on an amazing drummer putting his skills on display. Sorry for not moshing dude.
I saw him twice at consecutive years of the Bonzo Bash at NAMM. Out of some thirty top-name drummers, he was by far the most fluid, powerful, and energetic. I could feel his energy coming from the stage with every hit. There are videos on UA-cam of those very shows. He absolutely KILLED.

I'm gonna be honest. Most people don't enjoy playing because it's hard work. And everyone wants to be famous. They give up when they find out it's hard work.
I keep coming back to this video, it's just so good. I appreciate the grooviness of his playing far more than the blast beats and endless fills that are so popular right now in metal.

All these years later here I am commenting again.. I saw Ray at music midtown with DLR in 2002. As a percussionist- I had no clue who was supporting Roth that night and was absolutely captivated. I have been a fan of Ray ever since. Very few rock drummers play with such raw energy as Ray… he reminds me of a hyperactive Keith Moon just pounding and demanding resonance from those heads. Hope to see him again - cheers.

Luzier is the Wooten of drumming
No one enjoys playing drums as much as Dave Lombardo. Ray maybe come in second
I'm gonna be honest. Most people don't enjoy playing because it's hard work. And everyone wants to be famous. They give up when they find out it's hard work.
At this point is one of the most iconic drum videos in modern metal history.
I keep coming back to this video, it's just so good. I appreciate the grooviness of his playing far more than the blast beats and endless fills that are so popular right now in metal.

the way he fixes the cymbal nonchalantly gave me the chills...
The difference between pros and hobbyists...
Fantastic drummer. That snare sound he gets is perfect for his style.
Liam smith
unbelievable 🤯 such a talented drummer!
Damn. The feels on each beat and fills he put is overwhelming. Awesome! Rock on! 🤘
I had to talk my drums down from suicide after this...
Nate Goodwin same here man... same here
🤣
Yeah...
" DON'T JUMP... BATMAN WILL BE HERE SOON...! "

Hahahahhhahahahahahahha the fuck
Why? It's not your drums that suck.
You can really tell when someone loves what they do it's all over his face. He's in the zone fr
💯💯💯
Watching him live he definitely took Korn to the next level, he is extremely gifted

I remember that day, when I first saw this video...i was like - wtf is this guy doing? Come on...he goes insaaaaane! Iam still watching it, because I never found a drummer video with so intense feeling of music and passion for playing.
Mr lazuier goes right to work, 0 time wasted. What an iconic drummer
This dude! I played over 20 years, and sadly, i never came close to this. GOAT
Plays everything perfectly and can emulate Davids sound without sounding out of place which nobody else Korn has had drumming since David has been able to accomplish
I can’t believe I’ve known about Ray this long and had no idea he was this talented! That was the one of the most incredible modern solos I’ve seen, especially coupled with a rock medley! You sir, Are deserving of all your success.
3:31 transition into adulthood should be smooth like that
ha, i watched it over, and this made me chuckled. if only adult hood was that easy :)
what a great drummer he is -i only recently came to realise this.
If there's one person that really loved watching Ray right there that day is the Sr. in the blue cap with the amazing mustache, dude was literally at the edge of the seat.
When the interlude for Blind comes... He does not blink
This man is a beast.. I've known Korn from the beginning and love the way Dave played back then. But I surrender to this crazy and tight beast 🤟👍🏹 holy shitblizzard this mans a math Genius
That was a bad ass session . I never knew korns drummer was that good . Wow very nice
❤Ray absolutely DESTROYING in this vid. Absolutely crushing it!!!
That dude is the SHIT!!! I have never ever heard any drummer that AWESOME!! You can just feel every stroke...like YES!!! He is BRILLIANT!
My son that’s 2 jams out to this and air drums the whole time; we tagged ray Luzier on instragram and he saw my little dude rocking out 😂 he said it was awesome
Dennis S that's awesome!! He's a living legend and my favorite drummer of all time.
There's only so much one can do with percussion. And he did it all!!👍
Every time I watch this it gives me goosebumps! Technically amazing and his style can't be replicated.
Some people are a force of nature. Timing, groove, flair. W O W
Most of the crowd is like "yeah he's cool"
Then you get that dude who's about 50 with the cap full on bobbing his head smiling at Ray! I'd be bouncing off walls to see something like this!
filip kühn hahaha
ThatCrazyHobbit Get out of my mind! I was about to say the same :D
🙌🏻🤯
A monster drumming technician!
What a true professional and awesome talent on drums!!!Definitely he is using his God given talent and has perfected it!!!🙏👍
