Agreed, I attended the clinic for Michael Henry "Nicko" McBrain of Iron Maiden and its not that we don't appreciate what they are doing, as drummers we are taking it all in trying to figure out how he is doing what he is doing, playing along in our heads try not to air drum and smack the person next to us. Its a rare learning experience that we will probably only see once in our lives and we don't want to waste what they have taken the time out of their extremely busy schedule to allow us this up close and personal experience. That medley was how he started the clinic, which went about an hour. Almost everything after that intro medley was him talking about style and approach to playing drums. I don't know much about Korn but this drummer is as good as they get. Awesome going through drumming beats, drum pattern , very creative and unique. From the looks of things I need to practice much as possible. This artist is most inspirational. Def got my vote. ..
All these years later here I am commenting again.. I saw Ray at music midtown with DLR in 2002. As a percussionist- I had no clue who was supporting Roth that night and was absolutely captivated. I have been a fan of Ray ever since. Very few rock drummers play with such raw energy as Ray… he reminds me of a hyperactive Keith Moon just pounding and demanding resonance from those heads. Hope to see him again - cheers.
I can’t believe I’ve known about Ray this long and had no idea he was this talented! That was the one of the most incredible modern solos I’ve seen, especially coupled with a rock medley! You sir, Are deserving of all your success.
i have a new found respect for Ray after watching this. I used to think David was the man on drums and far better than Ray but... I've never seen David put that much heart into his drumming. He just kind of did it. However, Ray seems to enjoy what he does for a living and is good at it. I highly respect Ray Luzier now. Good stuff and likeable guy.
Sadly there are still a lot out there that still think like you did (mostly die hard Korn fans who aren't musicians anyway). David was a great drummer and had an original/groovy style, however Ray is a professional in every sense of the word and has taken Korn to a level David never could have achieved and this clinic video is a perfect example of that. Glad you gave Ray a chance dude! \m/
John Crichton I've got to agree here. Going back and listening to Korn's older stuff I can't help but think how uninspired David's drumming was. I prefer Ray over David.
I wouldn't say Davids drumming was uninspired. It was VERY creative for the time. He was just uninspired when the record label started forcing to have a more "commercial" friendly sound. Can't say i blame him. Ray enjoys drumming though.
Ray is a great player and David WAS a great player. He allowed his ability to slip away when he led a life away from music and then expected Korn to take him back as if nothing had happened and as if they hadn't found a drummer who was better in Ray. David in his prime was fantastic and he brought a jazz style of playing to metal that was unique - this is shown in their first two albums especially. They went a lot more mainstream with their next few albums after that before finally returning to the original Korn sound during the last couple of albums.
2.9M views and zero dislikes , that speaks volumes. We all know Ray is a bad ass on the drums , but what most people dont know is that he is one most of the down to earth and humble guy. Much respect.
Plays everything perfectly and can emulate Davids sound without sounding out of place which nobody else Korn has had drumming since David has been able to accomplish
Ray is beyond the beyond, on another plain... Its amazing how much intensity he has in his playing, and how he can deliver every hit lining them up perfectly...
Ray used to practice in the next studio/rehearsal room to my band in L.A. (The Valley) we were in the same building but not the same league, when we took breaks at the same time and around the same table in the parking lot Ray was completely approachable and just a real nice guy...............good times
@@Dre777 Ray was practicing for Army Of Anyone. The band I was in was not great I am now the drummer for The Altamont Stones the premier Rolling Stones tribute band in England
I keep coming back to this video, it's just so good. I appreciate the grooviness of his playing far more than the blast beats and endless fills that are so popular right now in metal.
What I love about Ray is that he uses pretty simple beats, fills and licks, but applies them in such a way, with finesse and speed, that they seem harder than they are.
I saw KoRn in original lineup with David but I'll never forget the moment where Ray threw the drum stick up 5 meters into the air and caught it in time to hit the cymbal for the big boom! WOW!
The fact that he put so much "performance" into this even though it was just a drum clinic and not a Korn show is amazing to me. Shows how much he loves what he does!! This was so much fun to watch!

Casey Grillo Yes I met Him at NAMM and he was a very cool gentleman
Wow, I’ve been watching this video for almost 14 years
this is what i love abt him, no matter if he's playing for a sold out arena or a small music store with maybe 30 ppl in it (like this video), he always puts on a show, and he's so fucking good at it too
I don't know much about Korn but this drummer is as good as they get. Awesome going through drumming beats, drum pattern , very creative and unique. From the looks of things I need to practice much as possible. This artist is most inspirational. Def got my vote. ..
Mr lazuier goes right to work, 0 time wasted. What an iconic drummer
Outstanding technique, I literally just had a good time watching him play.
Literally!?
The dude in the hat never stopped bopping his head, respect.
Doesn't get much better than this guy. Total and utter awesomeness.
Can't believe the vocals of Matchbox 20 can drum this good.
ole rt can drum
Didn't knew Rob Thomas could drum this good 😂😂🤘🏾💯✌🏽
😂😂😂
What's really funny about this comment is the drummer from Matchbox Twenty grew up 5 miles from Ray and they graduated the same year! Paul Doucette
i have a new found respect for Ray after watching this.
Lol this guy thinks so lowly of some of the stuff Dave played, he even adds extra fills and does stick tricks just to make it difficult.
Dave sucked
Never really watched Ray before, he’s outstanding and his love of playing drums really shines for everyone to see.
This store has more basses on the wall than all five of my local music stores combined! .... Oh and Ray was amazing as always!
What store is this?
Looks like Guitar Center Hollywood. Sunset Boulevard
@Drone Pro According to the description above its Seminole Music, Fl in 2008.
The guy has loads of feel, not just a robot turning out the standard “I’ve been to music school licks”. 👌👊
2.9M views and zero dislikes , that speaks volumes. We all know Ray is a bad ass on the drums , but what most people dont know is that he is one most of the down to earth and humble guy.
Much respect.
It has 0 dislikes because the uploader disabled them
I’d love to see Ray in a drumeo video !!
The creativity and dynamics mixed with raw power is just atonishing and his timing is impeccable
My favourite solo drummer yet
Plays everything perfectly and can emulate Davids sound without sounding out of place which nobody else Korn has had drumming since David has been able to accomplish
His work with Army of Anyone got me aware of his skills!
I can watch Ray play for eternity, such style mixed with skill... gotta Love em....
Love that the guy in the camo pants was really enjoying it. You can tell he was so into it.
Ray is beyond the beyond, on another plain... Its amazing how much intensity he has in his playing, and how he can deliver every hit lining them up perfectly...
I found out I've been watching this vid so many times over the last couple of years haha. It never gets old! Awesome drummer!
It's a great performance.!!!
I became a big fan of Ray Luzier.
Lynch MK KXM!
what a majestic performance by Ray
Ray used to practice in the next studio/rehearsal room to my band in L.A. (The Valley) we were in the same building but not the same league, when we took breaks at the same time and around the same table in the parking lot Ray was completely approachable and just a real nice guy...............good times
Paul McEwan name of band?
@@Dre777 Ray was practicing for Army Of Anyone. The band I was in was not great I am now the drummer for The Altamont Stones the premier Rolling Stones tribute band in England
@@paulmcewan5048 Why do you say it was not great? Congrats. What is your favorite Stones song to play on drums, currently?
@@Dre777 Hi Dre, my current fave' is "It's Only Rock And Roll" what's your's bro?
@@Dre777 Hi buddy, my current fave is Doom and Gloom
unbelievable 🤯 such a talented drummer!
I keep coming back to this video, it's just so good. I appreciate the grooviness of his playing far more than the blast beats and endless fills that are so popular right now in metal.
Jorge gamboa el chapo guzman

Ray is a monster on the skins. I luv the way he hits them so hard. Wicked drummer.
Amazing drummer - love this guy
Solid - great hands and feet
This dude! I played over 20 years, and sadly, i never came close to this. GOAT
What I love about Ray is that he uses pretty simple beats, fills and licks, but applies them in such a way, with finesse and speed, that they seem harder than they are.
Whatever you say
He blew me away when I saw Korn last time. Incredible drummer!
Спасибо огромное Автору этого ролика!!! Много раз пересматриваю и поражаюсь игрой барабанщика!
Я бы сказал это лучшее на ютубе.
I have watched this video for about 6 years. Got new airpod pros today so I’m testing them out with this video
Really glad this dude joined KoRn. Such a great drummer!
I saw KoRn in original lineup with David but I'll never forget the moment where Ray threw the drum stick up 5 meters into the air and caught it in time to hit the cymbal for the big boom! WOW!
Damn. The feels on each beat and fills he put is overwhelming. Awesome! Rock on! 🤘
Absolutely flawless.
Watching him live he definitely took Korn to the next level, he is extremely gifted
