- Ray Luzier Vs. David Silveria (Song: Falling Away From Me) | KoЯn. Intro and outro backing guitar tracks are mine with the original song being played in unison with my backing tracks. Do you like Ray Luzier, David Silvera or both? Thank you for watching! Please like, share and subscribe!
Ray and David just have completely different styles . Ray is a great drummer, his fills are good and gives a solid rock beat that never misses the tempo. But David had a flair for break and off beats , which complemented fieldys slap bass style giving Korn a hip hop undertone. Which is very noticable in korns early stuff, especially the 1st 3 albums, whilst serenity of suffering is a great album. Its sounds more straight up rock, because it's missing those break beats that gave korn a more distinctive sound. The 1st time I heard rotting in vain I couldn't tell it was korn until Johnathan started singing. When I first heard freak on a leash I could instantly tell it was a korn song just by David's drumming and fieldys bass riffs.
Funky undertone*
Silveria is a creativity man
Who's the guy with no dredlocks playing bass? He's not feildy!
@@paulchristie8452 it is Ryan Martinie, from the band Mudvayne, he was a replacement for Fieldy in one show
@@Thepaininside Thank you for the answer.
I'm personally like korn albums when David still in the band.
Thats cause you are gay.
Because you like a basic drummer
Ray is a better drummer but David was in the band when they were in their prime. It's not about the drumming but about the music as a whole.
@@Julianooly Yes, because Korn's music is all about complexity and technical stuff. They shoul fire Munky and Head and get Steve Vai and Satriani as well.
You are right. David make that sound where we know band called Korn. Ray is very good drummer, but I think that if he start this shit up with these ... And all those older albums are much more better those than later ones. Who think those latest are better are just a group of kids who dont't know better like a burbthwbedient or what ever that gay
As much as I respect Ray, David without a doubt has a very unique style tailored to the sound of Korn. Ray is very technical.
Spot on, David DEFINED the sound of Korn
Ray is an amazing drummer and David’s sound is Korn. Both statements can be true
I've always said it, Ray is a master at drumming, but Korn doesn't need a technical drummer, Korn needs a groovy drummer like David . I found it a little annoying at times when Ray does fills every 30 seconds.
Ray does love his fills, lol. Thanks for watching!
The new guy is constantly overplaying and is just straight to the point. He can't even let an intro be an intro without 284 cymbal hits and useless double kicks (Falling Away From Me for instance) on the bassdrum. It's not cool, it's not adding anything. Korn build their empire on the groovy and sleazy (not the right word) sound of the earlier days and that's just gone. David knew when to stop and had these rythms that were just so creative and unique. He also made everyone else better because of this.
you are so right
Rays not groovy? What? Lmao
@@meinlpurealloychina227 No he is not, he is just a robot ;)
David Silveria help sculpt the foundation of Korn's sound. Korn is always going to have him Dave's drums in their shadow. Drama aside he was the best fit for the band because of that. They're not really Korn without him.
Will always prefer Davids drumming over Rays. Not saying Ray isn't good but sometimes he puts a bit too much into it at times and gets a little carried away with his fills. David and Fieldy held the original sound to Korn and always will. You can hear the difference in their new stuff compared to the old. I love it all though and hope one day maybe David could come back and do a special appearance or something. Doubtful but maybe.....
That ship has sailed. Silveria chose to be petty, childish and litigious when he didn't have to be. I think his actions have precluded any possibility of his return.
David for originality and Ray for performance
Here is all!!!!! Truth!!!
Lol
The thing that was always striking about KoRn’s first few albums was how creepy their sound was. Like I’ve never been into or even done meth, but KoRn’s music had this disjointed, off kilter rhythm that created a tension that in my mind seemed like the paranoia one would get from tweaking. The slowdowns that would then suddenly jerk right back to life, almost jarring, but so musical and emotive in a way that fit their entire aesthetic and sound perfectly. For years now they’ve just sounded like they are going through the motions, the mood that made them so unique has given way to generic rock music that’s tired and boring. Now their just too damn old to return to how things were.
Ray sounds exactly like what he is, a highly skilled studio musician playing OVER Korn songs.
Well said
Lol...studio player no...more like a highly skilled musician who plays davids groves flipping sticks and often one handed chewing bubble gum and texting on his phone ...Ray is a Beast ..sure no disrespect to david I loved korn sense the start..but you can not take what Ray has done for korn ...im truly a big fan of Both...but id be upset they lost Ray now...korn will never be korn of the 90's even if david came back...they have involved in some other kind of beast now...and I don't think david could keep up with the new shit korn has produced with Ray..and his skills
@@weswelch5403 REAL SHIT, istg. I hate when people say Ray is trash. For me, he brought back Korn's sound, just a little more technical and electronical! I love both Ray and David, but I prefer Ray.
@@thomaspeter152 lol David's gooves ..that was 20 yrs ago....get over it....moving forwards
@@weswelch5403 Whta Ray has done for Korn?
really what has he done :D Korn was reached their peak before rays arrival > No one knew or heard of him before korn.
it's what Korn has added to him. he didn't add anyhting to korn to be honest and really wrong hiring by korn
I miss David's Korn. Rey's drumming is really annoying. too much out of context non musical showing off drumming. no really sense of groove or music.
David silvers had that Korn drum sound no one came up with, and I've always loved his drumming style.
I personally think that life is peachy is his best drum performance and the most Korn sounding record
Some great stuff there! Rolls on Chi always blew my mind
Ray has been with the band for over 10 years and longer than David and I still look at him as "the new guy". I'm still rockin with David though. Ray is too technical for Korn.
Dude me too. Ray's great, no doubt.. but he's just not Korn. Korn died after TALITM album haven't been the same for me since. Their music just seems so repetitive now in my opinion. The writing just isn't what it used to be and David was such an integral part of that sound. Irreplaceable.
@@garrettroberts7339 atleast it still came out a few good ones
So what? That makes him better
It just hit me that David has been gone from KoRn longer than he was in the band... crazy!
Davids Silveria siempre vas a ser el baterista de Korn, te extrañamos
David was one of the main reasons I got into that band back then.
Davids dynamic with fieldy is completely unparalleled.
David all day any day
Davids style suits korn full stop
Dont care who is the best technically
Dave got that feel man, he's a much better composer.
Can appreciate both. Ray is more talented and is a true show man and an amazing live drummer. David will always have that original korn sound. Ray is perfect for korn now, korn is this institution and is fitting that they have an amazing drummer like him and he fucking kills it, David is that nostalgic sound that you hear and think oh yeah that’s old korn for sure. Both are great, appreciate both, don’t hate.
David 💯%.. love the drums beat of old korn. One of character KoRN music
David has the Korn spirit and Ray is just a Korn employee
I GREW UP WITH KORNS EARLIER MUSIC. I Personally FOLLOW & Appreciate DAVID.SILVARIA DRUM STYLE MORE.
David Silveria is my favorite drummer! he has his own inimitable style! and it's a bit much thanks to him that Korn reached the top!
David for drumming
Ray for the personality
Just...
No Silveria=No groove(in koяn)
Luzier good drmr, but in korn its work not with bass and band - work with himself. Luzie is not korn-drummer
David was and will always be Korn’s sound.
David Silveria !!!!!
The most emblematic tracks... Come from the four first albums of Korn. Luzier is great drummer but David Silveria is a part of the original equation that caused Korn to create a phenomenon starting in the mid 90s. David definitely!
they both sound good, i like the snare better on Davids clip, overall, David is the one that put his soul into these tracks and created these drum parts from his soul, i will always have love and respect for the dude, one of my favorite drummers no doubt!
Dave always had a good snare tone.
It took me a long time to acknowledge Ray but I think he did a great job on The Nothing. He's still not very groovy but his style works very well on that album.
Gotta watch ray's videos of his rehearsals with fieldy and his artist spotlight videos.. the guy can groove!
@@smahring Will definitely check that out! I refuse to be a hater just because Ray isn't Dave, Dave's proved himself an ass and groove can't save him
@@greenkorn69 exactly my friend... keep trying to tell everyone ray has grown the sound of korn more than david ever could have. There is no way david could handle the material from narcissistic thru today..
Both great drummers for Korn. I too was bummed when I found out Dave left, but somehow, Ray takes their sound to a new level, especially live. Glad they found each other, and I'm glad Brian found his way back.
David just makes the “korn” sound, Ray is awesome and they’ve made fantastic sounding tracks together but David had such a good use of his fills with the Tom and snare drum
I love both guys Davis for the work he put in attaining that early Korn sound and propagating over those first 3 albums, he lost it after his injury though. Still a great player just not what he was. Ray came in and I think saved the band tbh. His playing is on point and he has grown into the Korn sound. The last two albums have been great.
I seen korn live with David and Ray.
David was amazing and had great enthusiasm in the earlier years, but must say his fills started to disappear in the songs live and the songs suffered from it.
Ray is the best choice for the band in this next part of their career.
Ray has now been in the band longer than David lol and plays with great passion and can breath which helps 😀
Could that have been because of his physical problems? Drums will destroy every joint you have. They shoulda took a few years off, but the business end wouldnt allow, and that, at one point or another, has chewed up each member and spit them out.
@@in2anthr yeah he did suffer from wrist problems and more than likely because he uses those big marching band style drum sticks. I love both drummers and David was a huge influence on my playing. Yeah if they taken a few years off who knows what we would be hearing from them now musically. Ray is a great fit 👌 for them over the last 14 or so years
Love Ray! One of my all-time favorite drummers. Sure, maybe David fit better with Korn? But Ray is an inspiration and a half, being completely sober and bringing much needed sobriety to the band.
I love David silveria style
Hands down my top 5 favorite musicians probably cause I'm a sucker for drums
Dave! Ray is great, but David will always be my favorite for Korn.
“Boiyting moi, boiyting moi down, down, into the ground.”
Lol!
I don't know why Jonathan sings Falling away from me chorus like that in live concerts, it sounds kinda weird xD
Ray! Com certeza. Um dos melhores, o cara é um monstro na batera 🤘
I love all Korn's first 4 albums. Then I stopped listening to their next albums.
I actually can say that their newest albums are pretty solid, some solid tracks of those newer ones!
Prime example of why the song writing is so different. Havent been the same since they parted.
David 🥂
we should not compare drumming from the 90s to the present years, one thing is for sure once it was played from the bottom of our heart, today we play for popularity
David for me he's the original part of korn and there sound has changed since hes left
Korn debut and follow the leader are the 2 best albums and without David I don't think they would of sounded as good
Silveria, without a doubt!!
"Some say Ray is better, others think David is better. Here's my take...I think Ray is better in some aspects. He's a better technician, he's more precise, he's faster, he's better at blast beats, ect. The two things that make David a better drummer, and the most important things..Writing and Creativity. Ray is very straight forward and rather basic when writing songs. While David always has his own creative niche. There are several Korn songs that come to mind when you think of just the drums. The minute you hear the top of the ride cymbal tapping, you know it's time for Blind. On Beg For Me, David plays a very memorable almost marching sounding intro. In regards to Ray, I cant think of a single memorable song he's been a part of when it comes to his creativity. It all sounds very straight forward and plain. Ray is a very good touring drummer. But when it comes to writing albums, and the best for the Korn sound and style...David is your man."
from Rowdey Baker
Thanks for the comment, Rowdey!
I agree, almost like david should still be writting the drums on the albums to keep the groove and unique creative feel of KoRn and Ray could do the live performances
As soon as you mentioned Ray's hability on "blast beats" we confirmed that David is forever Korn best drummer.
Ray Luzier ! ❤❤🔥🔥
Ryan Martini slapping da bass for Korn was awesome.
Yes it was!! Br br deng, lol!! Thanks for watching!
I prefer Ray especially when it comes to tempo and creativity. You can hear at 0:34 how Silveria is rushing first and then gets slower.
Yes, David created the original drums but I like Ray more. IMO
Sorry but no.. David is better
wtf that was great, I love those changes in good old korn
Well David has stated he doesn't play with a click track
Yeah i respect this opinion.
If he's so creative make a better song than silveria top hit freak on a leash
Can we talk about munky nailing them backup vocals though? 😂
Idk if this makes sense to anybody but I like Dave more cuz I feel like he plays more funky styles that you could see somebody make a 90s rap song off of.
I feel like that funk sound mixes so well with how dark Korn is as a whole.
Agreed! Dave 🥁 💯%
David all day. As other people are saying, its not that i hate ray, hes a great drummer, but man david had such a groove. He, vinnie paul, chris kontos and igor cavalera are my favourite drummers.
"Okay, Ray, we're about to play 'Need To', can you please play the simpler drum part from the album version?"
"Why do I... really need to?"
They sound quite similar, I wouldn’t even say I prefer one over the other. Although there is a good point for keeping the original 5 together, it’s not the same otherwise
Korn made a cover of falling away from Me?? Ray's fills honestly sound out of context
How? It’s their own song so it’s not a cover. Ppl r dumb these days
@@aliciaolson9119 Yep ppl r dumb now. They don't even understand when some one in a comment is basically saying that the way some band plays an old song now with their "new" drummer, is so diferent that it sounds like a diferent song.
I still think it’s awesome to see ryan martini to fill in for fieldy in this video
david made korn style drumming. and after david korn need someone can drumming like david for more quality so they chosen ray and ray right now playing drum like david like korn want
I miss David’s hip hop break beats that made me love korns crossover sound. Bring back the bungle inspired breaks that was they roots.
I've always wanted to see David back! However, I love Ray's koRny fill-ins. What if they just added David back into the band and kept Ray too? Doesn't Slipknot have more than one percussionists?
Yes I agree with the statement that David was groovy and Ray is highly technical drummer but also people have to take into consideration that over time Korns sound have changed and even their new albums and new songs have actually change. So it would be unfair to solely attribute the change in Korns sound to just one member-Ray, who happen to came in when Korn members are a bit older already. The truth is the whole band have changed and you can also say theyve matured after all these years. The angst, hate and drive may have been depleted a bit but theyre still Korn. And besides this phenomenon happens to all rock bands, infact it applies to all musicians. They tend to change as they mature and that unfortunately, includes their sound and song creation.
Sometimes less is more and that's why Davids style fits best for that koRn sound we all ❤️
This comment section is one of the few bastions of sanity on the internet lol. Ray is just too clean and overplays a lot, both of which inhibit the primal groove that was a core piece of KoRn's sound with David.
Korn's best music is during the DS era, so people will remember him more fondly and say that his drumming was more suited to their sound, etc. But RL is a MUCH better drummer, hands down. This is the best upgrade at the kit since Rush got Neil Peart.
David is not the most technical drummer ever, but David is Korn.
No David no Korn
Yeah David make korn !!! Sound like korn !!!
wrong
Mas ele era o mais técnico da banda, era o melhor e se encaixava como uma roupa na banda,Ray arruma muita barulheira,se fosse no slipknot acho que Ray daria certo, mas no Korn falta muita coisa.
too bad he's a toxic roid abuser who doesn't know how to play anymore.
Please... thats like saying av/dc was bon scott and not brian johnson or faith mo more was chick mosely and not mike patten.. get over it! David can't even do a simple primus groove anymore while ray has helped evolve the sound more than david ever did.
Both are really good but it’s sounds like more changes between the two than just the drums. It seems as it the guitars play a different pitch as well
Ray always sounds more passionate to me, more soul.
David siempre!
Ray all the Wayyyyy !
The Ray vs David debate will always have the same answer: it's up to each person's taste. I prefer David, but preferring him doesn't mean I don't appreciate the beast Ray is.
Honestly, the only thing we can see in this video is how much Jonathan has improved over the years.
Ray!!!
Ray by far.
Silveria por siempre
Ray 🤘🏼
Ray is by far the better drummer by a technical stand point but David tempo and hip hop vibe just gives him the nod for me as far as Korn music.
Silveria the best"
Silveria's drumming is cool. Prefer his playing drums in "Follow The Leader", "Issues". Best drummer 😎🥁
I gotta admit David has the proper Korn sounds, but fuck it; Ray sounds great and he has brought his own contribution to their new sound. W.e makes my favorite childhood band happy makes me happy.
Ray.. anyday
Ray seems to fill the songs up a lot more with those fills and double bass sounds heavier to me. I like it more honestly hearing David play the songs kinda sounds like it's missing something.
so all original korn songs sound like they are missing something with the original 5?
Yeah high Tec
@@reallifeshadow3552 boi it's the tec it improved severely
Ray is da man, no doubt about it .
Silvera for the win 👏🏻
ray sounds like any technical metal drummer, always over playing, plays for drummers. david had finesse and grooves, services the song
ice la honk David also was disrespectful and got kicked out of the band sooo
Both are fantastic!
Ray has grown alot now though.. he's very comfortable with the older material and can groove it with fieldy.. perfect fit imo There's no way david would have handled the new material from narcissistic on..
@@smahring I disagree, cut the drums out of every song past the 5th album and insert some funk beats and its suddenly like you're in another universe where the band never broke up. Use any editing tool, its actually nuts.
@@andromedadelux really not saying much about david then saying comparing a beat box to him on the same level.
Just at a show 2 days ago and Ray just killed it. 2 drum solos that got the crowd pumped. JD is still recovering from covid so Ray picked up the lost energy. Remember David walked away. Ray stepped into the band
Sorry, as a drummer Ray is an absolute inspiration to style, intensity, and performer as a metal drummer. He’s on point and extremely creative, which is why I feel Korn has still been so mainstream! David is great, but Ray came in and made it his own and then some! Ray>David!
RAY!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Ray is amazing
Silveria - более интересные тяжёлые партии!
easily David, original writer, original sound and raw rather than over the top, boasting, playing for drummers Ray, since Ray joined the band they've sounded so over-produced, 90's Korn was the best Korn
id say ray all day long met ray 5 times every time i chatted with him he help me with my drumming
Heavy pounding David gave addon decibels to KoRn's sound
Ray Luzier in the streets
David Silveria in the sheets
Not the fairest comparison. David and Fieldy wrote those parts and had played together in KoЯn for 12 years at this point. Ray had been in the band for four years and temporary touring bassist Ryan Martinie completed this rhythm section. Ray and Ryan are the far superior musicians, but they're playing someone else's stuff. Likewise, David and Fieldy would probably sound bad trying to replace Matthew McDonough and Ryan in Mudvayne. David and Fieldy just had better chemistry and feel for the KoЯn's music.
Different styles but I’ll take Ray all day. Dude is top 5 in the world.
Ray all the way
Silveria!!!
The new drummer just plays a fill every 2 seconds and shows off. David had groove. They stuck with a pro drummer who had the commitment I guess
@1:19 The Undertaker appears.
To me it's more about the parts the eprson comes up with and how it shapes the song. How thedrum part might latch on to what another instrument plays. Or how it might inspire another part. Like a ripple effect when the band creates a song. That's why the band's sound changed so much when he left.
Ray is the better drummer technically, it's not even close. However, David was a much better fit for Korn because he didn't need a ton of technicality, he just needed enough groove to drive the songs. Ray does good playing David's parts, although sometimes he tends to overplay them, and put in a little too much.
I hope David comes back one day 🙏
