I already know how to play the song, just watching and commenting to help with the algorithm
I extra appreciate that Caleb :)
It worked

I have never seen anyone make guitar lessons so easy. You sir are a gem.
thank you sir.
I love how Dave’s most original instrument is the drums, so he basically plays the guitar like the drums😜🤙
yep. putting stuff places and hitting them... makes for a very pure kind of expression
Ryan Lendt absolutely mate
don't want to be picky, as no one should be picky on Ryan's channel...but Dave was originally a guitarist...he taught himself drums while in his second band after High School...so he was in a guitarist-drummer-guitarist sandwich 😁🤟🤟🎸
he actually learned the guitar as a kid before playing drums
I’m not sure if this is what OP was referring to or not, but Dave has spoke about this several times over the years. He absolutely considers himself a drummer and very much looks at the guitar as a drum set. I know this is newer than these comments, but I would suggest searching UA-cam for “foo fighters everlong (acoustic - march 20 2021)“ for anyone interested. Dave talks about this very topic and even about how he created Everlong.
You deserve so many more views sir. youve single handedly taught me more in 6 weeks than i have my entire time playing
I appreciate you josh :)
I have been working on this one for months I think. Definitely weeks. Probably months. When I think I’m starting to get the hang of what I’ve learned already, I come back for more. It’s like a delicious meal in the fridge that I never get sick of the leftovers. Only they don’t feel like leftovers. Just things I couldn’t grasp when I had so many other things I was grasping. Awesome Ryan. Your vids are amazing. I’m getting’ better at this one. Little by little...
haha I think it's been at least 4 months! every song has a lot to teach us... BTW figured out building a mystery yesterday. the tuning is, get this, EADABD (??!)
Hello, i've waited here for you ;)
e ver long
Ello
I remember struggling to play this on Guitar Hero almost 20 yrs ago, couldn’t get the rhythm, and here we are, playing it for real and it sounds DOPE! Haha, cheers Ryan, much appreciated, love your lessons 👍😎👌
haha yeah why play the game when you can do the real thing!
You commented recently that someone said you had a “show”. It was something that came up around the time you met Mike M. That was a dang interesting story dude. But I’m getting off topic. You do have a show! It’s not just lessons. It’s not “just do this to play this...”. I’m happy that I’m a part of this community. Your “lessons”, which technically they are, are also super entertaining. You almost make music theory fun. And that is practicality impossible to do. But you do it some how. I’ve been working hard on this song. I’m finally starting to be able to do the whole thing - the vocals and the guitar. It’s awesome. Thank you for all you do.
haha woo hoo!! Congrats Mark! it was Stone who said I have a show :)
Dude you are one of the best teachers out there that was really good. I love the blueberry blueberry blueberry blueberry nine ten nine Brilliant. This is February 2023 still going strong
thanks papa.
Just watching you power through the songs has made me realise how to count the technicalities not as important and getting a song chopped out is the way to do it thanks I have strong fingers but no rhythm
one piece at a time then glue them all together :)
Mr Ryan appreciate you and your teaching guitar lessons.
In my youth I had a hard time in school . Always had a passion for guitar . Music growing up was my best friend. Will now that I'm all grown up I found a special friend his name's Ryan it fill good to have you a pipe Piper like you to bring us joy. Thank you.
it's my pleasure good buddy :) I'm super glad you find your time here fruitful. Cheers!
Great lesson. A student of mine (High School Science Teacher here) asked me to learn this. I keep a couple of guitars in my room and give free lessons in our down time. She is going to love it. Thank you so much for sharing.
spread the news of everlong fellow teacher :)
And this is one of very best lessons for me so far. The timing stuff is invaluable!
hooray!
Just learned this. Ryan is the man. I Keep going to his channel for great tunes. It rocks!
thanks so much for that Mark! Glad you're here man
Beauty song in tow formats, studio and acoustic!
Did this lesson intently for another or two tonight. Maybe I’m up to 10 or 15 hours or so. .I am enjoying this immensely. I keep getting a little better at it, bit by bit. The strumming pattern, the timing, playing it slow, playing it at speed... it’s an amazing lesson dude. This song is right at the limits of what I am capable of right now if I take into account basic skills, strumming/striking precisely skills, fretting perfect skills, counting skills, knowing the lyrics and music by heart skills... and then keeping it relaxed and meaningful, as opposed to stressful and forced. I could never have come close to playing this where it didn’t sound like shit without you. But with this lesson, and enough hard work on my part, I will be “campfire ready”. I quote you often whenever it comes up about my skills. I am indeed “campfire ready”. I would have done anything to get to hang out with you and play music together when I was young. Back then there was no internet. So new songs were ginormously harder to come by. Had to have a friend who was better than you back then. Otherwise, you we’re screwed unless you were naturally talented. You’ve changed the world bud. At least you’ve changed mine.
it's my great honor Mark, I'm just glad my efforts are useful to someone! Congrats on your effort.
Mark, I feel your pain! My buddy taught me the basics back in the day, he was a phenomenal guitarist and an absolutely terrible teacher, everything came so naturally to him he couldn’t explain anything! Thank god for UA-cam and people like Ryan 😎
I was just looking for this acoustic version and was hoping to find one coming from the biggest hits album and I said, I’ll check if Ryan has done it, and damn amazing to my chances that I find it on your channel, thank you man amazing
the fact that you thought of me makes me smile :)
Thank you again. Friends and I are heading to Cleveland this weekend to watch them get inducted and wanted me to learn the song. You are fantastic at what you do Ryan.
say hi to Dave for me!!
Hell yea dude I love your videos. I should have been watching a long time ago but you are now my go-to for every song I want to learn.
I appreciate you Brian
this is the best and most simplified tutorial for this song out there. It clicked instantly for me. Thanks!
so glad to hear it AB, cheers :)
You're the only bloke I wanted to teach this one. Been waiting for it for a while and now I can't wait to practice!
how kind Boyos :) Good luck!
I’m always telling my girlfriend how stoked I am that I found you online. My daughters are also grateful for you. Finally Dad is playing some “new” music. So you’ve had a good impact on me and my family Ryan. Merry Christmas. And Happy Hanukkah. Or whatever else suits you and everyone else. Keep up the awesome work my friend.
it's an honor to be there in spirit Mark :) Christmas for me, but after the kiddo heads off to college I think I'll become a solstice party kind of guy.
thanks....freaking could never get the "blueberry" strum until your tutorial. Thanks, dude!
welcome - now go have a muffin!
Coming back to this classic.
cheers to RDA :)
I just recently came across your lessons.....super helpful and entertaining. Keep up the great work.
thanks Eric! welcome to the party :)
I'm gonna be stuck on this one for a while cause I love iiit, thanks for clearing it up Ryan
I'm glad you enjoyed that Meska :)
Ryan, your lessons are simply amazing…like, off the hook awesome.
i appreciate you jerry :)
You just want Dave Grohl's phone number 😂. Other blokes have taught this, but your blueberries are definitely going to stick in my mind for that signature line (and it was hugely more fun!!)
I won't deny that statement. He's gonna be there on the 16th maybe he and I will hit it off :P I'm glad you enjoyed that Chris!
You should be proud of this instruction. It’s excellent. Many thanks.
why thank you Bill :)
Thanks brother. I been meaning to learn this for too long. I’m personally not big on Dave or the Foo.. but there are some musical gems there and this song especially acoustically has always been so amazing to me.
I been following you for years from a different channel and always look for your tutorials first when looking up a new song. You the best man!
Thank you for all you do. ✊💚✨🎸
thanks for that flowers!
@@RyanLendt oh you are most welcome, Lendt! (Since we are calling each other by our last names here lol)
You have a TOTALLY engaging way of teaching, my man! (Whatever about the blueberries, but I absolutely see how they would help.) With your help I nailed the patterns from a standing start in one sitting. Now to practise...
thanks Pat! and thanks for not holding the blueberries against me :P
Even dave grohl would not explain this like you... Best guitar teacher ❤️
you're real nice Jarman. thank you :)
Awesome Ryan! been waiting for this one
you should do a play and sing along for this
I'll definitely keep that in mind :) thanks for asking RB!
Love it, Ryan! Thank you!!
You're welcome Tristan!
Good as always, Mr. Lendt. You're the best.
thanks friend.
Just SUBSCRIBED!! I checkout your content every now and then, but this vid I really enjoyed.
welcome, officially, to the party Jeff :)
Mr. spaghetti sounds like Tim Meadows on SNL as the ladies man. “Just sitting here me and my Courvoisier”. 😂. Love it!
hehe, while not intentional, he is based loosely on that :)
I did not think that I’ll ever be able to play this song but this tutorial is so great that now I can.
Its really fun to play, thank you so much.
don't give up AP
Me too bro
Thanks for this, Ryan. A great video. Love that you don't take yourself too seriously :)

Thank you for posting...

Wow!! Great lesson!!
thanks AM :)
Your probably my favorite happy guitar teacher 💟✌
I'm gonna work to upgrade that 'probably' to 'extremely likely' :)
Thanks! Amazing lesson!
You're very welcome, mister Mousse :)
Really great job. Perfect for how I like to learn. Just subscribed, looking forward to learning more.
Welcome aboard!
Thank you Ryan- this is great 👌👍
you're so very welcome HB thanks for learning along!
He is the most fun guitar teacher on UA-cam...for that reason i prefer ryan over other blokes lol
I appreciate you VV
First of all i realy enjoy your lessons man. There a lot of fun to watch and it's so great to have these short video's where you explain everything once and do it right with a lot of room for me to make my own verson of the songs. Keep up the good work.
There is another way to play the d chord in the chorus wich i realy like the sound of and fals nicely under your fingers. in tab it's 0-5-4-7-X-X. You can leave your pinky down on the 7th fret, use middle and index finger for the 5 and 4 and then mute the rest with your index finger. This way you can also do the slide back to 11 on the end with your pinky wich is wat Dave is also doing on his solo live performances of this song.
thanks for taking the time Wim, cheers :)
This is my favorite lesson so far dude. Except for when you showed me how to play Yellow. Base base cord. Base cord cord. Base cord. I NEED that level of explanation. 😊. Your teaching style resonates with me big time. I am grateful for you. I struggle with rhythm. I am super happy that you give me the timing and tell me all the music theory stuff. Because I’m “hungry” for it. It used to be that I couldn’t hear the notes right to figure out a cover. Now, because of you, I am working on rhythm. I am grateful for you dude. And singing at the same time is so super hard. I can sing ok if it’s the only thing I’m focused on. But singing right and playing right simultaneously?! Super hard. You have improved my skills immensely. I hope you are making enough at this channel to keep it going indefinitely. You’ve changed my life. How about that. That is how strongly I feel about what you’ve done for me. I suppose you can’t imagine. But you have.
I appreciate that more than anything Mark :) thank you endlessly for the kindness, and FYI I'll be doing this indefinitely because I don't have any other ideas ;P
Ryan Lendt awesome!
Nicely explained. Thanks 👍
Unique . . . YOU ~ ROCK ! !
thanks mr. idea :)
You're my favorite foo fighters teacher. Nobody teaches it better
cheers to you arnab :)
@@RyanLendt cheers my man! Thanks for making my day!
There is a couple of ways to do a quieter coffeehouse version of it without putting it in drop D one way is with a capo, but nothing beats that bassy droning rhythm of that tuning! So great
indeed, nothing beats it :)
This is brilliant, I love your tutorials 😂
thanks Ben :)
Great lesson.
Thank you!
most welcome Lester! I had a chinese water dragon named Lester. true story.
Great channel. Awesome tutorials.
thanks Casey

Thanks!!!
Welcome!
Ready For It? I've never learned it. I always meant to but never got around to it. Today I took the plunge. Thanks for the shaming to get me going. ☺
oh awesome! I knew SOMEBODY out there was waiting for me!
@@RyanLendt it's been super busy lately so it felt really great to grab the guitar and learn sonething new. That led to an hour long acoustic set to myself in my living room. What a great pick me up.
i like it a lot! great beak down!
thanks sonic!
I am on a Foo Fighters kick right now. Love the "blueberries" reference that Dave uses so often in his songs. Still hoping for the day 29 Palms hits your site.
not a bad kick to be on shawn :)
Great. Thank you
Thanks Andrew :)
Thanks for the tutorial! Oh and Merry Christmas! :)

I love this guy! That blueberry, blueberry, blueberry is sticky. I’ll definitely remember it!
Mr. Spaghetti killed it. Ryan was OK. ^^

Ryan v. Mr.spaghetti (I’d pay) 😂 🥊
Thanks ryan. I love this song but was always confused on the intro
I hope it is now as clear as mud :)
Woohoo nice!

Thanks for teaching me how to play this in like 20 minutes 👏
Happy to help!
Solid.

Plus you do music theory a lot. I really like it dude.
thanks dude :)
Well that gets a huge thumbs up!
I'm happy you're happy PH :)
Hey Ryan I don’t know if you read old UA-cam comments but if you see this @andywoodmusic did an amazing version of this song with Ben Eller as a tribute to TH. 👍🏼

Never thought I'd be learning guitar from Chef PP
he's Mr. Spaghetti round these parts
nah ryan watched many on this, your no bullshit approach is much simpler and easy to follow . thank mate from oz
p.s im actually a marty subscriber but i liked yours :-P
hey thanks Dave! I appreciate that very much :)
I loved how you showed 2 ways to play dm7.
DM7 - careful with your capitalization you just said D minor 7 :)
@@RyanLendt DM7 indeed! Thank you for the correction!
I'll give it a shot in Double Drop D.
That’s a very Neil young Springsteen approach. How does it sound ?
Appreciate you Ryan, thank you for putting yourself in the world man.
thanks for that Danny
Your awesome
so are you Will
Blueberry ahahahah! But it is so amazingly logical! It made my day!
:)
I’ve watched a lot of guides for this song but yours was the easiest and most comprehensive. Thankyou 👏😭
I appreciate that very much Mr. Yeti :) Cheers!
Would there be a way to play everlong acoustically in a standard tuning or even with a capo, or does it only work in the dropped d?
only drop D
Quick question, when you say chord for The strumming do you mean the D,A and other D or just the A and 4th string D?
I am so in love with this song but im having so much difficulty and its killing me, im a beginner and ive been practicing this for a little more than a week, just trying to get the intro down, i finally got callouses on my fingers again and got comfortable ish with my hand and finger positioning on the fretboard, i tuned to drop d, and i used the karate chop method to get used to muting chords 1 2 and 3, but every time I play Bass Bass Chord Bass Chord Chord Bass Chord, my Bass D sounds alright, but i can never get my chord to sound anything close to what the song sounds like or you get it to sound like, my bass just keeps on drowning out A and D and sounds only a little different than playing bass string by itself, i even got better at holding the chords so the strings dont buzz, one problem ive found that others have mentioned about my guitar is that my strings are really high off my fretboard, but this is a beginner guitar that i got just like this and have accomodated myself to playing, is it possible its because my bass string is closer up to the pick than the other two strings are as theyre being pushed to the board? Ive tried really hard to angle my hand so it hits all of them the same for the most part, or to play hard enough that after the pick gets over the bass, it can hit the other two. Itd make sense that that would be my problem but id really appreciate it if you could give me some tips, im in love with listening and making music and ive always dreamed of expressing myself through guitar, love electric guitars and rock but love acoustic and blues/rock/other genres through acoustic as well so i wanted to start off with that. Sorry for the terribly long message but thank you for your videos man they have given me the courage to finally start this passion of mine.
1) nice work with the karate chop method
2) go ahead and unmute for the "chord" portion
3) take your guitar to a guitar doctor and get your action fixed
4) don't give up
5) good luck!
@@RyanLendt thank you man im going to get my action fixed asap and im not going to let myself give up on this! Thanks for letting me know about unmuting the chord part too ill try that 👍👍
It's fun to play this in open G.
interesting.
