You Can't Be Dave Grohl... but You CAN Play "My Hero" the Way He Does on His Acoustic Guitar!

- What a brilliant unplugged version of such a brilliant song. It's meta-brilliant. My Hero by Foo Fighters is one of my go-to's when I play covers live and acoustic. In this video I combine several different options of how one might play the requisite chords with how Dave Grohl has been spotted doing it in the wild for a myriad of tasty options. I hope you enjoy it and good luck!

Every time I learn a Foo Fighters tune, I think about the Dave Grohl interview where he explains how he learned guitar by treating the fretboard as a drum kit. Very interesting.
indeed!
I think alot about that one as well 😀
Making chords ringy outy is always my preferred way to play!
especially when solo acoustic!
We all know what ringy outy is. 🤣
Do I even have to say it anymore?? Ok. I will.
I LOVE CAMPIRE VERSION OF ANYTHING. So steamy. (😀)
even though I didn't say it, that was for you too Nick :)
That c# minor with the little hammer ons is tricky! Typical Dave treating the guitar like a drum kit! Great lesson as always mate💪🤙🍻
that Dave. Cheers to you CKM always nice to hear from you.
Oh I actually had the easiest time with that and a hard time with the rest
@@RyanLendt this guy knows his stuff. but i think he is on crack
Yeah it’s tricky because the chord is hit hard but the lick has some finesse to it
Strumming hand is def underrated in the guitar world! Down down up up on E Chord then you slide ring finger to the 6 fret and bar the rest on 4th fret with pointer... your right hand is in position to go down up down up repeatedly and just add hammer on's accordingly on the 7th(pinky) and 5th(pointer) fret of G string... On every third stroke there's a hammer on so the strumming direction changes each time too. As follows:
Down, up, *down with pinky finger, up, down, *up with pinky finger, down, up, *down with pointer finger, *up with pointer finger again...
Thats how I was taught almost identical to this video, hope the detail helps!!
One of the best tutorials I’ve seen lately, straight to the point. No bs, thanks for this tutorial. Great job!
thank you for that Javier :) cheers!
Agreed 100%. Found this channel in the last month. And have learned several great songs quickly. Really great breakdowns.
Still working on this one. Super happy that you gave so many good choices of various difficulties. You are an amazing teacher.
I'm just happy you're happy :)
one day I'll play this song on my guitar.. gonna practice everyday !
good luck Daniel!
did you learn how to play it?
Dude you are awesome! I have been watching the Howard stern version over and over trying to figure out one little part where the focus was on Dave and not the guitar. It was driving me crazy keeping me up at night! I can sleep now. Thank you Ryan Lendt you are my hero😉
haha what timing!! sweet dreams Glenn :)
glenn bastarache I experienced the exact same thing
@@rageagainsthememe71 Ryan is the best teacher on UA-cam hands down his approach and humor is second to none!
There aren't too many tutorials out there where a person can watch the video and walk away being able to play the entire song in either a simplified manner or more correct actual way the artist plays the song. He is really good at filling in holes that others are leaving out or playing wrong.
I just wish Ryan would look at me in his videos instead of my wife who is usually standing behind me and slightly to the left🤔
I watch that video at least once a day
Ok so I just found this channel like 10 minutes ago. I like it so much that I'm watching his videos without even trying to play the songs on the guitar (because it's 3 AM and I'd wake up my family). I just love his positivity and energy, keep it up bro
Thanks so much for finding me Mega Rockstar, and for inviting me into your home at 3AM :) I'll be excited to hear how it goes with a guitar in your hand
Holy shit. It's 3 am. I'm watching this without playing while my guitar sits in eyesight. Just discovered this channel about 10 minutes ago.
@@hoardlydad lmao, I passed on my legacy
@@RyanLendt dude I started actually playing the songs you teach and damn it was really helpful. Thanks a lot for all the work you put into teaching us!
Same bro
The ringy outy thingy 😂🤙🏻
:)
THAT. WAS. A. GREAT. LESSON. Thank you from Rome.
I'm so happy you're happy vomit guy - say hello to Rome for me!
Druthers is a contraction of “would rather’s”?? Why has life taught me so little and this gentleman so much?! Mind blown.
ha! I love using that word because my grandpa used to use it :)
I love how you just did a lesson on the names of the individual parts if songs and then use the term "inter thingy". Well done
haha I assure you that was a happy accident!
Great teaching, great lesson!
I was looking for this song.
Thanks!

You've definitely evolved in a positive way with you tutorials. Not to take away from the refreshing exuberance of your early tabs with all the Pearl Jam videos.

Ryan Lendt Just emailed you.
Man this is great! Thank you 😀
thanks for hanging out Marko :)
Just so ya know... when I search for a lesson for a song, as you know there are a lot of guys who teach it but I now choose your videos first. First, your videos are usually more detailed. 2. They are usually more accurate. 3. They are DEFINITELY more entertaining! I just noticed this is the acoustic version. I hope you have the electric version.
I appreciate you dear friend :)
Killed it subbed 💪💪
thanks Jon - welcome!
Awesome lesson

You got me playing from total beginner in the first uk lockdown, and Now as we enter another your channel will be my companion. You're ace. I wonder, can you possibly do an acoustic tutorial of spinning in the daffodils by them crooked vultures. There are none I can find 👀 big love

Thanks Ryan.

Best of best ! Thank you very much.

Hey Ryan I was wondering when you are going to upload the unplugged version of Crackerman (incl the solo-ish thing). I'm planning to do a cover of sorts so
It hasn't left my mind Mack - in fact I was thinking about it today. It's not planned for the very next STP video, but I'll certainly keep it in mind!
great job Ryan
thanks Dean
