That's not how it works though... Music and art is meant for people with hearts, eyes, brains... that's the whole reason it is presented to people and not inanimate objects. Because the viewer converts it automatically to something to identify it. My hero can be anything you claim but when people remember hearing the devastating news of the last great rock singer dying tragically and then hearing a pretty song about "my hero" sung by one of Kurt's favorite people in the world... The world doesn't need any explanation and we mourn for Kurt and that void that has yet again opened up. Make it about the ice cream man... Sure... Whatever...
This was really the song (THIS version, to be exact) that got me into Foo Fighters, which led me to discover Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana and more. I’ve been on a grunge binge for the last 6 months because of this song!

It's weird to hear them talk about Kurt to him now, I guess it was still kinda fresh at that point. It really is a testament to how great Dave is as a musician where he seems to have transcended the whole Nirvana/Cobain thing despite how massive that was. When you hear the name "Dave Grohl" nowadays you're probably more likely to think of Foo Fighters than Nirvana, which to me is amazing. I can't think of any other musician who came from a massive band on the same level as Nirvana into another one and managed to shake off the image of the first.
Only one that comes to mind to me is maybe Lennon with the Beatles or maybe Fogerty with CCR. Nobody however has came from a band as massive as Nirvana and then went on to create a staying power band as big as Foo Fighters that has remained relevant for almost 25 years now and counting. Nothing absolutely short of amazing!
Very underated guitarist....cus he's not a shredder.......but he has his own unique style...the acoustic version of everlong has a very similar feel to it.......my cat loved it....and me
I watched an interview about his guitar playing....he explained his "method" SOOO well, (I am not a drummer but I still understood this)….he stated that he uses the low e,a, d strings as like the "bass type drums" and the high e, b and g strings as like symbols...so in his mind he said he creates rhythms by thinking of a drum pattern and using the strings the same way he would a drumset. I think that's a fantastic way of looking at a guitar...….again I don't play drums, but even I can actually relate!!!! Any drummers out there that can relate?
Crazy how this song inspired me to learn guitar, and after failing miserably at my first attempt to learn it a few months ago, I can finally play along with Dave what a feeling. Practice does indeed make perfect
Dave, during the early years of FF, was always seen as Cobain's sidekick by many people. He showed whole world that he was way more than that. Skilled musician, humble rock star and he Has a heart of gold. For me, if I have to make an honest comparasion, Dave has already overshadowed Kurt. And Taylor... I feel sorry for both Dave and Pat because they have lost a good friend second time. It must be too hard for them.
I love how reserved his voice is in this iteration. I know it’s in the nature of an acoustic performance to be more intimate, but his restraint makes it that much more.
Rest in peace taylor Hawkins, honestly one of the worst mornings of my life, Taylor’s style of drumming was a primary influence into my life and musical taste and playing, his attitude throughout his life was something that I aspire to reproduce, the way he always appeared like a light in a dark room, my condolences to the family friends and the music world

Rooster AIC for me
@@travismiller4614 alice in chains is also one of my favourites too, their mtv unplugged is not as iconic bit its still REALLY good compared to nirvanas amazing one which is still my favourite Unplugged set.
Check out STP, one of my favs across the board
check out the melvin’s first grunge band ever mudhoney as well it’s pearl jam without eddie vedder
Definitely some great music . I cut my teeth on
I listened to all the Versions out there and this is by far my favourite one.
Thanks for the love and care, are you a fan…where are you from?
Kurt Cobain actually wrote the song about Howard Stern
Lol
Lololol
Facts
cool...
did you write this joke yourself ? what is it about ?
I wish this was on Spotify/Apple Music. This song hits different when played acousticly
Agreed
Check out the version on the skin and bones album.
oldfredbear Thanks, mate!
YUP!
This was made in 1999 just buy the cd
RIP TAYLOR… so sad. Dave’s biggest fan in this one
Dave I think is such an underrated vocalist. What an amazing singer.
I love how Dave responds to Taylor’s comment about skipping the end despite Howard talking. Great respect between them. RIP Taylor. Loved your Queen covers.
Dave and Kurt were friends it’s not like Dave looked at him and said wow that’s my hero.
Tremonti
So true
Who's the founder of megadeth? His fallout with Metallica was big and he is known for megadeth.
Try the band members of New Order who were once part of Joy Division after their singer committed suicide
This is so awesome he sure did show Howard. Amazing
Any drummers out there that can relate?
no I wouldn't say his giutar playing is anything mind-blowing, I think the songwriting is what makes him good and unique.
Underated? Doubtful. He's one of the most celebrated!
Richard Bonney he’s a songwriter, not a shredder. Songwriters are a lot more interesting
just to reinforce this point everyone should listen to stranger things have happened... easily my favorite acoustic song
this song and 1979 by the samshing pumpkins are so nostalgic
I could and would drive all night long listening to these two songs
Everlong acoustic on their Greatest Hits.
Agree both songs are great. I miss the 90s
Crazy how this song inspired me to learn guitar, and after failing miserably at my first attempt to learn it a few months ago, I can finally play along with Dave what a feeling. Practice does indeed make perfect
Time heals all my friend. This includes callouses
Preach brother
Awesome to hear! But practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes improvement!! 🙏🏼👌🏼
I appreciate that he squashed both interpretations of that song. So damn direct. No and no.
"Do you need reverb?"
"No, no"
Adds reverb anyway.
Yea but not gonna lie the reverb was nice on that performance
You gained a sub and a friend
I don’t think he did. Audio shifts at the beginning of the song, they probs remixed it
lis didnt he say echo/delay?
It's an acoustic guitar going in to two and possibly three mics.
Good gosh people drop it. Dave’s entire life is not Kurt Cobain
Or is it?
I agree with ya, brotha!
Crazy how Dave Grohl dedicated his whole career to Syd Barrett after losing him.
Oh shoot, wrong Dave.
No... It's....Nevermind
He was in nirvana
Seriously the best version of this song I have ever heard
well.. that 20 years vanished pretty damn quick.
Dash good thing Dave Grohl doesn’t age!
Fucking frightening...
No shit. Thought the same thing. Crazy!
For real...i was 9 when this was played. 🤯
😥
that guitar sounds incredible
Taylor guitar baby
This is Rock n Roll!
20 years!
Yeah... that was tight... Dave looked so cool!
Thank you Howard stern, now to me this songs about Dave grohl
Love that guitar sound
if i can one day play like that i will feel so accomplished
I swear 90s music had a feeling of such quality
I love how Taylor is a drummer through and through, Can't resist the finger tapping watching Dave so he stays at the same place.
I love how reserved his voice is in this iteration. I know it’s in the nature of an acoustic performance to be more intimate, but his restraint makes it that much more.
Dave Grohl: writes a song about a boy called Tom
Everyone: OMG SO IS THAT A SONG ABOUT KURT COBAINE
Richard Francoia-Jupe Cobain
What’s the song about?
Cobaine. Wtf
I love Tom....What a god damn hero!
@QsA Atomic shut up dude
Rest in peace taylor Hawkins, honestly one of the worst mornings of my life, Taylor’s style of drumming was a primary influence into my life and musical taste and playing, his attitude throughout his life was something that I aspire to reproduce, the way he always appeared like a light in a dark room, my condolences to the family friends and the music world
wow. what a easy life
get out of here with that shit@@AlexWheely-bx7pk
1.) Dave is the only guy that can pull off those sideburns.
2.) Did cousin Eddie give those shoes to Taylor?
Those sideburns are heinous lol
I'm pretty sure he stole those sideburns from Tony Scalzo from Fastball.
Maybe kenny loggins
Make sure you pull out before you come.
Mike Dernt enters the chat
Wow. What a beautiful raw version. Love it. Crazy with a happy Taylor smiling and jamming on the couch
Such a timeless song but so necessary for Taylor’s family!
We will miss you Taylor!
How rude, intrusive and condescending... good on him for taking the headphones off .. “shut up!”
Stern: You need echo?
Grohl: Naw Im cool
Engineer: Lets give him echo anyway
Just as the song says...there goes my hero...heartbreking!!!
Howard and Robin can never shut their mouths and just listen and appreciate
The way Dave sings those hard to sing lines in a lower tone really shows how much heart he has and how much his hero/s mean to him
Love how Taylor is just there as a pal, low jamming to the music :^)
Like a kid watching his Dad.
God I love that intro riff. Its so beautiful.
When they say musicians are often rude in person, I like to imagine Dave Grohl is the exception.
Oh he is the exception he’s not called the nicest guy in rock for nothin
Keep coming back to listen to this. Imo this is the best version of this song
I remember hearing this live on the air and gave me such goosebumps. So cool to see this up on YT.
A hero can be a person that gives a smile to the person that was about to end their lives but decided not to because that smile is what that person needed.
