My daughter in law and grand daughter were passangers. Seeing this now, I feel so lucky that I have them. I was told that the passengers were all so calm and brilliant in helping each other in this situation. Thanks to the crew and the superb pilot who had to make a quick dicission not to take off at that critical moment.
Just out of interest do you know if ppl took their luggage out of the over head compartment? Because that would piss me off! I dont think people realise how dangerous that can be. But good that theyre ok!
@@DavidL1986 I actually remember asking the same question to my daughter in law at the time. She said the passengers were actually very good that only one or two of them scrambled for their luggage. But the majority were very good. One passenger In particular, who probably saved so many people ( an unsung hero) corrected the aircrew who were about to open the exit door leading to the fire. He managed to avoid a disaster by persuading the crew to open the opposite door.
Abdul Daniel good. My worry is that I don't think people realise how dangerous smoke can be. It can take as little as 3 breaths to knock you unconscious. And then these people would die on the plane. But very good to hear that most passengers were very good!
Your family lucky. Depending on what row you were sitting Some passengers were not considerate.

Wow
Despite the "forget to shut down engine" bit, good call on the British Airways crew for realizing an issue and a swift abort before getting airborne where things would have got incredibly messy.
British = the best 🇬🇧 😊
Yo I can get it from you bro😎
Wow!!! The Captain sure went out to retirement with a BANG!😁. Seriously tho, thank him for his critical decisions that saved all lives.
My dad works as a pilot for British airways. I really don’t know why I watch these videos! I’m terrified every time he leaves for work I’m soo addicted. 🙄
Stephan The Avocado I agree. I think these videos help us at least give us some answers to the how and whys. Us passengers don’t see what really goes on and some of these are terrifying!
Thankyou to your father for his service, this is a very demanding job 👏
Lisa M ‘9
God bless the men (and women) who fly.
good payin job
One of your best, having the ATC audio was a plus, and the pace and music was perfect additional drama well taken. With plenty of detail given, it's obvious you put the extra effort into the preparation an editing of your movie, well done!
Thanks man, I appreciate! 😊
I think the flight crew criticism was a bit harsh. The captain, in particular, made excellent decisions that saved all lives and even prevented catastrophic damage. Yes, he omitted a step when performing the checklist from memory, but he may have also saved precious time. I hope he is enjoying a well deserved retirement.
He risked getting some of the evacuees ingested by the still operating engine, the criticism is anything but harsh given the dangers involved.
@@THCAPI Although, I wonder how much suction an idling engine would have.
Bill Bingham not enough to suck someone up. They do engine testing at Heathrow with people near the aircraft, it’s not major. If he followed the checklist not from memory then there may very well have been casualties. There were none so all praise to the crew, the reality is in that situation checklists rarely work, when you are falling out of the sky can you read through one? Shmucks thought the Ethiopian pilots would be able to and many others but it’s the memory which serves as the saver in most cases
@@billbingham3829 , enough suction at idle that manufacturers typically define a meters long (how many varies by model) radius around the intake as a no-go zone after light-off. Scary stuff.
@@billbingham3829 Still, it's probably not a good idea to deploy a large inflatable right in front of it while it is still spinning. Or behind it... People could have been hurt. Plus you can see the soot on the right side from where the right engine was ingesting the fire. That could have been the reason the fire wasn't extinguished, at the very least it was fanning the flames. Just luck that this wasn't far worse, a little ironic in a city known for gambling. 🤔
Dear tfc, I have watched all your videos and I absolutely love your style. I strongly disagree with some viewers who keep on asking for voice narration. Written narration keeps the atmosphere much more eerie and allows extra tension and suspense to the sounds and voices you use, from time to time. Great music, too.
So, how many of those passengers decided to take a boat back across the pond? After 42 years of service I hope this pilot receives a very well deserved hefty retirement package.
I don’t think it’s possible to take regular boats open to the public across the pond; not since the 1970’s. Hopefully he was immediately retired be it packaged or canned. Not switching off the affected engine was a major senior moment that would’ve been devastating to life had it happened at any time after takeoff and could no longer be aborted. If you have an engine fire 🔥 you shut it down ASAP on any kind of engine. Pilot got lucky is all. I feel for the people trapped inside waiting in terror while the windows start to melt and the cabin crew has to wait for the “old man” to finally get around to calling an evac. Before they can throw the doors open and get out of that rust bucket full to brim with fuel and the engine sparking away like a stoner with a finicky lighter!
As you decided in my last YT Community post, here's the recreation of British Airways flight 2276. Hope you'll like the video and have a wonderful weekend! ❤

Always a nice ending with "Everyone Survived", good thing was on ground when this engine failure/fire or things might've turned out differently. Angel's watching over this aircraft that day.
I'm happy the Captain stopped taking off after hearing that bang!
If that part were to have failed even a few seconds later, this story would have had a very sad ending.
Yeah luckily he stopped or it would have been a disastrous ending.
NO SHIT
@@leonierousseau8705 Did they really deploy chutes on the engine fire side?
The Captain 'aborted' the take-off - is the correct terminology.
It is however understandable that your knowledge of English is very basic and elementary.
Bravo to the captain who made the timely decision.
To be right , he followed the procedure he was trained to do. It’s it about him “ making a call” etc.
Yep. When I walked into the back office that day, they all looked at me like if I was a ghost and I backed out and left. They all did fantastic. After that, it was our job to handle the rest.
Actually, the Captain had a major senior moment and skipped the most important step of shutting down the affected engine that was on fire a very close to blowing the plane up. Luckily, the First or the Engineer noticed and nipped it. Also it took a Stewardess probably alerted by terrified passengers to show them the melting windows and hint at imminent doom unless they evacuate.
Loved this video, it had great music, and I loved the little flip at the end. I'm just sad that the crew ALWAYS get some blame. I hope this captain didn't retire on a sour note. Always feel so sad for these old planes....they're tired too. Thanks for this.
I love the addition of the audio recordings between the flight crew and ATC!
Captain Chris deserves a knighthood!!!! His experience and quick thinking saved the lives of all souls on board. Those two little words “Everyone Survived” makes him a hero in my book. Well done Sir Chris , A BRITISH AIRWAYS PILOT 👨✈️ who deserves recognition. I watch so many of these videos; Not once have I watched one where the Captain has made the decision to abort the fight BEFORE take off………saving a disaster but mostly saving lives.
I have to say after watching many of the video's that "TheFlightChannel" has publish i have to say this is outstanding work. Keep up the outstanding recreations!!!
Another great one from the Flight Channel. Love the new music. Thank God this happened while the bird was still on the ground, and early in the take off. Captains fast reactions are to be commended.
If that had of happened ten minutes later or even less, they would have been in very deep trouble. Thank goodness for that. Great job by the crew.
It amazes me how long the wait to order an evacuation while a fully fueled plane sits there on fire. Remarkable.
It amazes me that there was no evidence of any fire engines attending the fire. Surely the tower should have spotted the fire & got them on it shortly after the aircraft stopped.
Fire alone, much less with full fuel tanks, should require immediate evacuation.
@@MegaVector2011 Didn't it mention plane was hidden from the tower?
@@lindab.716 An evacuation cannot be ordered without engines being fully stopped. Once evac slides would be deployed, they would be dislodged from floor mountings or possibly ingested. The only fault was not following the FCOM list for engine fire and evacuation. Excellent, professional job by any standards.
Shows the pilots was very calm, thus was able to make good decision and everybody survived.
Amazing how cool and calm the flight crew is while sitting in a plane on fire.
Yeah, and what about the passengers?
Much too cool and calm in my opinion. Almost like it was happening during tea time, the main ignition point is left sparking away for nearly a minute, connected to a fuse leading to a transcontinental load of jet fuel. 45 seconds is an eternity to start an ignition even after the crew is given permission to evac. I really thought the bucket was gonna go up in flames with all the people. Glad it didn’t.
I have witnessed this accident live, we were waiting at the gate next to the one for the BA flight and it was horrifying to see the plane burst in flames and nobody was sure at that moment how many people will survive.
That must have been horrible...
so hard and frightening. I witnessed the aftermath of Lockerbie, it was a very surreal and deeply traumatic. You feel as though the world you know changes in a second. I don't think I will ever get certain images from my memory.
I don't normally talk of it,However, it's unusual to find someone else who understands that ' feeling '.
blessings to all and love laugh cry dance sing .....anything that makes you feel good, life's short and we never know the moment.

My best mate's wife, witnessed the Manchester British Airtours accident in 1985. She has chosen not to fly since. Absolutely horrendous , there are no words , and there is nothing that will convince her to fly again. 1985 was notable for airline safety. Air India , Japan Air Lines and Manchester spring to mind , but they made up the huge death toll for that year , which was over 2,000. Here's a link to BA 28M en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Airtours_Flight_28M
Of course nobody was sure. But someone had to be taking bets, right? I mean... Vegas.
WHY DONT THEY PUT REAR VIEW MIRRORS AND CAMERA ON PLANES? PILOTS COULD GET IMMEDIATE VISUAL INDICATION OF THINGS LIKE ENGINESON FIRE...
I was on a flight the next day, prior to take off, reading some newspaper, on the first page, this BA plane on fire, I was like "what a great time to read this article" 😬
The best part is everyone survived
Finally, a qualified professional captain doing his job thinking on his feet and saving countless lives!
Hardly thinking clearly if it took him 44 seconds, after ordering evacuation, to realize the right engine needed to be shut down as well.
@@hawkeye48 Nonsense. The fuel cut off switch has been activated following the involved engine set to idle. No problem. Once fuel has been cut off, spooling down takes place close to instantly.
He was extremely extremely lucky...
What do you mean " finally"? Stupid comment.
There is no such thing as an unqualified airline Captain.
Flight Channel Guy, This is a masterpiece! You are genius at these presentations which keep getting better and better! Love ya!
Nothing on UA-cam is more exciting than new videos from The Flight Channel. Much love to you❤
Right when I think I've seen all the videos from this channel I find 5 more I haven't seen! Love the dedication that goes into making this type of content!
I forgive the pilots for forgetting to cut fuel to number two -- they got the bird stopped in 15 seconds and that's what mattered.
I recall an account of a runway incident where one engine kept running. No matter what they did in the cockpit the engine wouldn't shut down. The fire trucks kept spraying water into the engine and even then it kept running for a long time until finally they got it to shut down. Incredible how much water ingestion these jet engines can take and still keep running.
Gary Gray i guess you are referring to QFA 32 Airbus A380 incident ..
@@anirbinnaroy3926 That may be the one. I forget how many fire trucks they had out there with their hoses spraying water into the engine trying to get it to shut down.
Checklists exist for a reason.
They didn't cut the fuel to the second engine because they needed to keep the air conditioning running.
Fridays just aren't the same without these amazing videos!
I can confirm and agree
I know
The pilot & Co pilot knew exactly what they were doing, throughout it all.
i would feel safe at all times, in their hands
I love how much this channel has grown in the few months I've been watching! Keep up the good work !
Viewers should realize that this is a re-enactment, NOT A 'real-time' incident. Good graphics and flight simulator footage. I LOVE The Flight Channel because you give so much information that is very important to understanding the whole situation and mishap, if there is one. We, as pilots or just aviation enthusiasts, learn a lot from these videos. They are never 100% "pure" because that was not filmed, but they give a very good indication of what happened and, hopefully, help prevent any like-incidents in the future. And it must be remembered that as science and technology advance, so many things can change, often for the better.
One of UA-cam channel that I'll never missed to watch every single new video that came out. Love it!
Another magnificent video! We all appreciate your sharing these with us and keep up the great work!
Imagine if he had proceeded with the takeoff! They might have made an error, but they still saved the passengers and crew. Well done!
They also saved the majority of the plane. That's important to the bean counters.
I just recently discovered The Flight Channel. The computer graphics are amazing and so realistic. Thanks for the great job all the staff does and giving us the public, an inside look into the inner workings of the planes. I have learned so much about planes. Now my husband is hooked on this. LOL! I have to say though, it makes me glad i dont fly.
Sounds like the crew did an awesome job of assessing the situation even though they were criticized for delaying the shut down of the other engine by 44 seconds. ( sounds like a criticism my wife would make ).
This was another excellent reconstruction. The graphics and animation are outstanding!
Yes, that also cheesed me off. They're sitting in a burning plane, it can't be easy. They did well, everyone safe.
The Pilots, Crew and ATC was so calm in the situation like it was not even there.
Agreed, you don’t have the time in those sorts of cases to run all checklists.
One particular action I thought was remarkable was the copilot noticing the throttle levers advancing and therefore disabling the auto-throttle.
@@toddb930, I agree
Been loving the new music and changes in format. Thanks for all your work.

@TFC Your videos are amazing. You shed so much more light, and info on these aircraft incidents. More so than what we hear from the news. I really enjoy your channel. Thank you.
Not sure how these planes are maintained that the plane caught fire just before take off.. imagine if this would have happened just after 2-3 minutes..
Thank god everyone survived
The video explains how the failure occurred, and that it was in an area not normally inspected, and just over half the expected lifetime of the disk.
@@donmoore5716 failed at under 12,000 cycles in an expected 30,000 cycle life and it was a part not subject to maintenance inspection. Rather horrifying to think what are we not inspecting in our airplanes.
#MiracleInLasVegas
I had the same thought. Though at that point the plane would be doing 200+ mph and the force of the wind plus fire extinguisher being pushed by the wind into the engine would probably have extinguished the fire. Sitting still on the ground an engine fire has a much better chance of blazing out of control. I've seen accounts of pilots using the remaining engine(s) to speed up a plane to put out an engine fire.
Better thank the natural hazard of events, the sang-froid of the flight deck crew, the professionalism of the cabin crew who evacuated the passengers through only half the slides, and those of the plane's systems whose function was to prevent the flames spreading beyond Engine 1. Fictional old men referred to in popular mythology do not exist and have no effect on anything other than keeping religions' finances healthy, and maintaining murderous conflicts
Children watch TheFlightChannels work, and you have no right to pollute their young minds with references to fiction and myth on a very informative and instructive video about a real, tangible, technical and human event.
You have the right to delude yourself in any manner you wish, as long as that does not harm other people. Alienating children from factual learning and without the express permission of their parents is a direct denial of the right of those children to learn about modern life and technology without the confusing introduction of centuries-old clap-trap. If ever you find yourself trapped in the burning wreckage of some means of transport, tell the emergency services personnel present at the scene not to risk their lives saving you, and that you positively desire to wait to be saved by an old man sitting on a cloud. What would you risk? You don't really believe such an old man exists, do you? Religion is the only form of denial of reality that is sometimes not considered to be a sign of psychosis. Psychotics are mentally ill...
That being said: This video is a masterpiece, even by the standards TheFlightChannel has already set. By comparison everything else, including this comment, is minor!
Thank you flight channel for making these good videos
BEST ONE YET!! GOOD JOB
RVSM (reduced vertical separation minimum) instantly popped into my head when I saw the two planes passing each other. Great vid.
The graphics in this are amazing. Great job.
Great video! The Boeing 777 is a great airplane, the GE-90, a very reliable engine as you pointed out. Thankfully, everyone survived.
Thanks for making this and uploading. One would never suspect a compressor disk causing this. Happy all made it out safe. Glad I had a safe career.
I love this channel. Thank you so much for your hard work and dedication in telling aviation success stories where everyone lives! And the non successful stories to educate, while always mentioning the souls lost.
Supurb video, very realistic. The graphics (scenery, effects..) are constantly getting better and better! Good work 🤘
Thanks man, I appreciate 😊
Great video once again! Thank you for your efforts! I just wanted to say something regarding the suspense of the videos. In the past, the thumbnail or the title wouldn't give away too much information and I would sit in suspense, questioning what could happen and being in the moment with the planes, but these days, the thumbnail and title gives everything away before I even watch the video... I hope you can consider leaving some suspense! Thanks again for your videos! Keep up the good works.
The format changes you are making are really incredible. Very nice work on your videos, they look like they are done in a Hollywood studio.
And the Epic Classical music is perfect for your films. Great choice of music!! Have a listen to Two Steps From Hell and maybe get an OK from them to use their music.

Excellent video! I can tell you put a lot into this and you really did an awesome job! Thank so much!
Music along with editing and video is a awesome combo
I’m glad the disc didn’t fail 10-15 seconds later when they would have started rotating...
Well, even if it did, I'm pretty sure the aircraft still would have been fine. Would have taken off even if it passed V1 speed safely and returned to the airport.
@@-Wreckanize- V2 is the point where an aircraft can fly with one engine. Either way, had those wheels left the runway with that kind of fire it would have been a disaster. Way too much fuel to immediately return.
Your videos just get better and better. What a miracle, just a few seconds more and the aircraft would have been commited to take off and that could have had a far more dramatic outcome.
This channel is by a long way the best one on you tube 10/10 thank you who ever you are 👍
Since when are the flight crew not criticized? Apparently people forget that we're all only human. Great video, and glad that everyone made it. Hope the Captain has a great retirement.
All humans err, all humans can forget; that is what check-lists are for! Even small errors are significant when it means an aircraft can fall out of the sky! Because that usually means a lot of humans will die!
Still, air travel is the safest way to travel, partly due to the fact pilots do not want to die any more than the passengers do! But flying requires precision and use of ALL elements that make it safe, including a lot of experienced sober pilots, checklists and adhering to ALL the required rules that make it safe.
it doesn't matter. precision does.
Lmao at the Boeing hate comments saying they all should be scrapped, THIS WAS AN ENGINE FAILURE, BOEING DOESNT MAKE ENGINES, this had nothing to do with the actual airframe itself which held up great and allowed the passengers to evacuate
If it ain't Boeing, I ain't going!

Fantastic video as always, great crew reaction, as a retired Captain myself, I can only say, missing shutting down no 2 engine on stopping, as well as no 1, there but fore the grace of god go I !
That is why a pilot and Co pilot are necessary..In a situation it takes both to handle all aspects.

Everyone survived👋. Are web discs now part of maintenance checks? Thank you for another great video, TheFlightChannel.
I guess they have their reasons but immediate evacuation seems like a good idea to me.
Not when the engines are still running!
And not when you have massive vehicles thundering towards you at 80mph firing foam and water ahead of them.
@TheFlightChannel: Another great video, thanks! I have not been doing anything with flight sims in a few years, how do you recreate the engine fires and other failures that you show in your videos?
I voted yesterday, and this new video is awesome and keep uploading more videos for us. Good Job!
So good! Your video's just keep getting better! Esp with the very real looking ramp sequences! Thanks!
this could also have happened during take-off at e.g. 3000ft height and with a plane full of fuel for a ten hours flight it might have ended in a desaster. So problem is that 20 year old engines require a better in-depth examination
If the engine failure occurred at cruise, and the disc fracture were contained, following the fuel cut off, more than likely the A/C could have continued onto its destination within the range of ETOPS limitations. If this had happened immediately after rotation, the result may have been somewhat different.
Very well done and the musical accompaniment is outstanding!
Wow. Your work just gets better and better!

After reaching V2 a single engine is enough for a climb and emergency landing. (Just some seconds after takeoff) But the burning engine would be a high risk i admit.
