    I always love the Qantas videos, coz I know, they will all include "EVERYONE SURVIVED". It really is amazing, how Qantas has managed to keep a perfect record of zero fatalities in the jet age through good work, excellent pilots - and a lot of good luck. I'm a ”mayday” survivor - Air Canada, 2004, 18 passengers Toronto to Manchester, NH. For obvious reasons I only watch successful landings but I've continued to be curious about what was happening that the passengers weren't aware of. It was the calmest group of people ever, but having those masks drop and seeing emergency lighting on the runway - then realizing those are rescue vehicles is surreal. I never hoped to know this, but 02 masks are good for about 12 minutes of air. They are working on the assumption the plane will fly lower in that time so masks aren't necessary - good in theory unless the cabin is full of smoke. We went to breathing through wet towels. There was no cabin attendant so we were on the ”DIY” program. Yes, I've flown again. Not Air Canada. Always wonder if I was referred to as one of ”20 souls on board”. Sounds way scarier than ”passengers”.

      Buju Rocks No idea - long time ago! It was supposed to be about a 4:00 flight out of Toronto that had I believe four delays. Left closer to 11:00. Maybe we should have got the hint right there? If one can see humor in an experience like this it was being held in the terminal while an argument raged in Customs whether we had actually passed into US air space, thus had to go through customs. Of course, we had no luggage - I didn’t see that till three days later back in NH. I became spokesperson for the group, assuring them we had made NO stops, no one went shopping up there, we had nothing with us except what we were carrying (luggage was still on the plane), and it would behoove them to figure out what the hell to do with us. They got us to the Sheraton about 2:00 a.m. Ya, I hit the mini bar hard. Air Canada’s other claim to fame was overhead paging me in Toronto to report to the gate long before flight time. Everything that could go wrong in my life went through my head. Reason? Person in my reserved seat had vomited in it on the last flight. They had cleaned it but would I like to be reassigned? Dear God. Canadians need to stick with hockey, eh?

      Lucky Wu Actually, they had cloth like things on the backs of the seats. Tore those off. We shared water bottles we had (plus a can of Sprite). Seeing the baggage handler was also the steward then the copilot, we were on our own, . The door to the cockpit was one of those plastic expandable things like in an old travel trailer. We debated who would go ”knock’ on it. The pilot came back, walked through, asked if anyone was smoking, and that was the last we saw of them. He announced we were turning back and dropped the oxygen masks. I'm bilingual but I don't recall them speaking in French. When the cabin is full of smoke and the masks drop, it hardly matters what language you say ”Oh, crap!” in.
      I do see the humor in the Smithsonian channel ”Air Disasters” being brought to you by none other than - AIR CANADA!

      @Jamenator1 4 роки тому +9

      The bang which occurs when an aircraft is supersonic is caused by the shock waves continuously emitted from the aircraft structure (similar to the bow wave from a boat) passing your ear, people on the ground perceive the shock wave as a bang as it passes them. Because you must pass through the shock wave to here it, people inside the aircraft cannot here it (as they are neither in the shockwave nor are they passing through it, they are simply traveling close to it). If there is a load bang heard inside a supersonic aircraft, its likely just as bad as any other aircraft

    Very interesting and well-made clip. I will show it to my husband when he returns from his trip (C B744 approx 27,000 hours, around 18,000 hours on B747 making him possibly one of the most experienced pilots in the world on this type) - I won’t point it out until he returns though!

    Congratulations to the Filmmaker at TheFlightChannel for incredibly accurate flight graphics, including locale details. I'm a retired Filmmaker who dabbled in CG and am a Commercial Pilot as well having flown in and out of the Ninoy Aquino Airport hundreds of times, then the Manila International Airport. I can't help but comment on the film work and its accuracy, which is as perfect as is humanly possible. Gads, it's real.

    I was on the AOG survey call for that incident. The bottle shot up through the cabin floor and did some damage.The hardest part was going to be the door frame. It wasn't available as a subassembly so i ordered it to come in as detail parts. We went on strike and our managers went to do the repair. They got it done but I heard it didn't go so well.
