Getting rid of planes after 10 years old is not the answer. I have flown on 1960's, 70's and 80's military aircraft in the early 2000's while on active duty. If your organization takes care of the aircraft in the long run, planes can fly decades. Maintenance and flight training are what matter.
I imagine military aircraft are maintained to a much higher standard than those of civil aircraft. If an airlines’ cashflow is drying up, maintenance cuts corners. Whereas with the military, your budget is much less volatile.

@@arrogleinadtra @asdf I think if you examine a number of CVRs you may find that the last thing heard may be a prayer (Tuninter 1153 comes to mind), whether it is Allah akbar; there is only one God, or asking passengers to pray (Air AsiaX D7 237 engine fail over Western Australia), if you look you will find a final request for divine assistance or forgiveness. I don't think it is right to insinuate anything sinister into those last words in this circumstance.

Considering you get a 'bank angle' call every 5 degrees they must've ignored the call 16 times.
From the black box's audio, it seems the bank angle already happen for a while but the warning sound was late.

according to the black box, the bank angle warning sound not functioning properly.
If there's one thing I've learned today, its LEVEL THE WINGS BEFORE YOU PULL UP OUT OF THE DIVE.
One thing i learned is try not to fly as much as possible because it only increases the odds of you meeting one of these fates. And when you do fly don't go cheap. Choose the better airlines and fork out the money because when your plane is going down you will wonder if save that extra money was worth it.

Also paramount is the PIC to *never stop* flying the plane.
At the VERY least, if something MUST require your attention, check the attitude indicator every several seconds.

You would expect that from a flight that crashed into the ocean at a max vertical speed of around 55,000 ft per minute at 617 knots, 3.5G force and inverted at beyond 90 degrees pitch.
I don't know of a commercial airplane crash that had more sheer catastrophic forces than this one when it went down. RIP to the passengers and crew

General rule of flying is that if one pilot is troubleshooting something, the other pilot needs to maintain the airplane. Never should both pilots obsess over the same issue at the same time!

Finally, a video about my desired flight accident I've been wanting to watch.
When this accident happened, I was still a kid. A few week after the crash, my mother had a scheduled flight to the capital using this airline. I still remember how frightened and worried I was. I begged her to reschedule her flight to another safer airline but she refused. And I'm so happy mom came back safe.

That fear seems unwarranted, it has nothing to do with which airline they fly on. It's all about a series of unfortunate events. Plus, after a crash, airlines are filled with tension and on high alert, so you definitely dont have to worry about crashing.

How is the fear unwarranted? This crash was absolutely avoidable, but also doomed to happen sooner or later. i still wonder how did the not notice the plane BANKING to the right ..., i can even feel the slight turn DAMMIT
it's a different environment in the air. The cabin is pressurized, g forces are pulling you up so it feels like you're just floating and the plane was banking very slowly until it was too late.
At 300kmh you would not feel the slight turn, at altitude you can feel nothing that the plane does unless that movement is rapid.
Those passengers surely did. And 3 n 1/2 g, a hell ride
For real though I can vaguely recall feeling the aircraft servicing a July 2008 flight from Domodedovo to Munich making a turn as well as observing it with my own eyes

I checked the news for 1 week straight hoping will get any answer, and nothing’s clear back then. 14 years later, I finally find out what had happend here. It’s embarassing that our safety regulations is so poor. I’m afraid to fly but even get worse when I know about how our people handle this :(

It's very scary stuff, when profit is prioritized over human lives. Unfortunately it happens way too often. This accident and the Boeing MAX planes I think are important examples of this, especially the MAX planes seeing as they were extremely recent.

This incident happened to the son of my father's brother (my cousin). This incident will certainly not be forgotten in my family. At that time when this incident occurred, my family was shocked and felt unwilling. Can you imagine? One of your family lost for a week due to a plane accident. Our family is angry with the airline Adam Air. Disbelief in this accident is always there every day. But we finally tried to be sincere with what happened. Honestly when I saw this video my heart felt falling and hurt. I was able to imagine how it felt and gripping the death of my brother. I cried when I heard the sound of "banking", that's when all the problems started. The voice was like a trauma for me and my family, because we used to hear the cockpit recordings that were shared by the airline to the family to find out what really happened at that time. When I wrote this I cried, I was too traumatized by this incident. But I thank this channel because it can make the aviation world more advanced and better. Because there are families below waiting here at home.
And for anyone who experiences the same thing as I would feel the same way. The most important thing is to send a prayer to them. They actually just precede us facing the Almighty. We must be sure that we will meet them in another world. And for other airlines, I beg for the best service for your passengers. They pay for their safety to their destination, meet their families. So I beg you, fix everything that needs to be improved for the good of the aviation world.
So what exactly were the crew saying the whole time while they were ignoring the plane's warnings, its gauges, all of their training, and the forces they felt on their body while they putz around with some stupid nav system?? We really want to know.

They failed to conduct the VERY basic and fundamental concept of frequently scanning their instruments, gauges, alert lights, etc. A constant and steady scan would have immediately revealed their bank angle, their vertical speed, their heading, etc. These pilots never received proper training. As someone said, they merely spent thousands of hours flying from point A to point B on autopilot.
When I was learning how to fly Cessna and in flight school the 1st thing they teach us is if anything is going wrong to make sure that you 1st fly the plane, it's hard to believe two experienced pilots would forget the most basic thing of making sure to fly the plane!🤔

Well actually am I very new to ACI. Only discovered it a few years ago when I saw this episode. I was already an aviation buff before that
So sad. I knew a flight attendant that worked there from a previous job. She had a friend that perished on the flight. So sad, a horrible ending. Terrible management in the company, threatening the pilots to fly unsafe aircraft. When pilots write up a discrepancy, it needs to be repaired. The Indonesian 10 year rule was not necessary, if maintenance was good. That shows their lack of confidence companies will repair broken items. Companies, such as Japan Airlines and Korean Air, fly aircraft more than 10 years old. Their maintenance is excellent. As soon as a pilot writes up a complaint, the mechanics fix the problem immediately. Adam Air management complained 40% of their operating cost was maintenance. They were leasing older airplanes at a cheap price, so the maintenance costs will be higher. Adam Air could have leased expensive brand new airplanes at a high price, then their maintenance costs would be lower, and ticket prices higher to the passengers.
I can't even imagine what those poor passenger's were thinking, so sad. RIP to all off those innocent people.

I would have been thinking, "I wonder if I will feel any pain before death." Do you even have time to process any pain going that quickly to the Earth? The brain probably doesn't have enough time to process being pulverized in a nanosecond.
I was living in Indonesia at the time, and traveling extensively on domestic flights. The number of air crashes was just so high in that period. I had done the math that I had a 1:1000 risk to be caught in a crashing aircraft within the next 3 years. I was holding hope to the fact that I was using only Garuda which seemed safer than Adam, Lion and the like. Nevertheless later that year a Garuda also crashed. It was just a terrible overall condition for the local air industry.
Just book a flight where you take a back seat and you end up in the middle. That's is the safest part.
And AdamAir is safe, they have planes over 10 years old.

Adam air once had two pilots arrested for "endangering public safety" after the navigation system on their aircraft failed and they landed at an airport considerably off course.
Some months later 16 pilots quit with after complaints safety concerns, mostly related to navigation systems and very shoddy maintenance were ignored. What did Adam Air do about it? They sued the pilots.

I just finished a book on Airline Crash Investigation and this video brought forth two important factors:
1) Sometimes pilots become so fixated on one problem that is occurring that they become oblivious to anything else going on. It is a thankfully rare, but actual, psychological event.
2) Allegedly some of these Indonesian area airlines were lax in performing world-wide mandated safety inspections at prescribed intervals. It seemed possible that some of these airlines had not been conforming to these regulations. This (alleged) non-compliance would be exposed if a crash occurred. Conjecture so far, but plausible as well.
This video has captured both those types of scenarios. Extremely well done.
The former I guess is what's called "tunnel vision" in a sense. Still, I find it odd that they didn't notice the audial warnings.
@@MrMudbill It's called lack of "situational awareness". This is why psychological studies are being done about this rare quirk in our brains. The one incident that comes to mind was the crash in the Everglades of Eastern Flight 401, where the pilots were engaged in trying to fix a landing gear indicator light.

When they drifted off course and headed toward dangerous thunderstorm, I was wondering why ATC didn’t radio them to check.
They were reacted only to re-setting ATT switch back to NAV
There were two men in the cockpit, one to deal with the faulty instruments and the other one TO FLY THE DAMNED PLANE! We've seen this same scenario in other accidents, sometimes with three men in the cockpit - all distracted by a problem and no one flying the plane.
All the comments above forgot that during thunderstorm, there is no horizon. All is grey in the eyes of pilots. The pilot also tried to determine which one is the correct angle to levels, while the captain tried to race with time to reset the ATT and turn on the autopilot again.
Something about that sound at the end when it hits sends all types of chill. I can't imagine people fear in those last moments.

These were auto pilot - pilots, they probably never flew it manually - very common in Asia where training costs more money than lives. I bet they had all the certificates and talked like a top pilot but in reality they were and still are way out of their depth. You see it in other industries all the time - you know who you are - I know who you are...

they didn't crash into the sea....they were going so fast, at 3.5Gs, the plane broke into pieces before it hit water, and dispersed debris over many miles....that's why the plane & bodies will never be found. The G force was beyond a human body's endurance, and passengers would be dead before the plane broke up, along with bodies being broken into pieces. Sad, but true.
It's worth noting that 3.5 G's is very much survivable, given that fighter pilots regularly endure over 5+. Granted, at high g's, most fighter pilots have g-suits specially designed to counter the effects. That said, stunt teams like the Thunderbirds or Blue Angels don't use those suits because the inflating bladders on the legs impair their precision flying. I've personally been at 3.0 Gs before for a sustained period and can attest that it's uncomfortable, but not life threatening.
Unfortunately, there's a good chance many of these people were alive until they hit the water. Some may well have been conscious. We can only hope that the plane breaking up was enough force to render them all unconscious first.

Diane Morgan. At the extreme, humans can withstand 9 and 10 Gs. before succumbing and it being fatal. Fighter pilots handle that. The average person maybe 6 Gs and that's it. But 3Gs would not have killed people....and the plane broke up at 9,000 feet....so many many people may have been ejected out into the air and been conscious as they fell to the ocean. It was a horrific accident. Just.......awful, terrifying. RIP

@@drkatel the link I share is uploaded on 2008, one year later after this Adam Air Crash (2007). QZ8501 occurred on 2014. Learn some basic. Learn some timeline of those event. Fyi, the tape is legit, it's been shared and talked on Kaskus, an Indonesian forum, around 2007-2008.
rafael dj, I am very sorry that I offended you. Putting aside the issue of my ignorance, which I don't dispute, the reverse situation occurred. Several channels have falsely passed off Adam Air 574's CVR as Air Asia 8501.
idk how the best youtube channel is the one that continues to strike fear into my heart every passing second yet i can’t stop watching these.
This accident is really sad for me personally, I had this one doctor that my mom trusted to take care of me when i was a child, a good and very kind old man, he’s my childhood doctor, every time i got ill when i was a child, my mom always took me to him first, and most of the time i got better just by 1 appointment with him… he died late December 2006 just before new years, due to some sickness… and the sad part is, his families are on that plane to go to his funeral… but those poor souls didn’t know that they were going to meet him in the other world.. rest in peace to the family members of my childhood doctor and all the other passengers on that plane, may God Bless them and strengthen their families who are left behind🙏🏽

Can’t believe I flew on this airline when I was a kid. For sure my parents didn’t know the problems with this airline.

Great vid, best air safety video I've seen
This is stuff (unusual attitudes) that we start teaching private pilot students within the first 10 or 15 hours of flight training. Power back, level wings, arrest the decent. This crew also could have used speed brakes, then flaps, then landing gear deployed to reduce speed/decent rate. Reminds me of Eastern Airlines flight #401 in the Everglades.
Was that the one where everyone on the flight deck was trying to fix a dashboard light and the distraction caused the crash?

Maybe they should have asked ATC for a higher altitude. In any case, a pilot with that many hours under his belt should have better situational awareness.
I think it goes to show just how little experience pilots can have if they go through most of their career with little happening and then all of a sudden someone with thousands of hours of flight time who mostly just spent their time monitoring controls gets to show their "true" experience in problem solving and crew resource management.

The pilot already ask the ATC for a higher Altitude..but after the pilot pull the plane but the plane is stall..
Everything is silly for those who sit on the ground.
Say they were at a higher altitude. The pilot still reacted at the last second but managed to save the plane. With the speed of the plane in free fall, the plane would not be controllable upon rotating. To save the plane the Pilots would have to lower the speed of the plane to stabilise.
However the incident has already passed, we just need to learn from this and remember the poor victims.

With me, it's the opposite. I'll be watching these videos for the next month by the time I fly again. I want to learn what might be wrong before things get worse so I can inform the flight attendant about what to tell the pilot.
Any passenger can take control of a commercial airliner whose pilots have lost consciousness by knowing the emergency frequency number to reach the nearest ATC for step-by-step instructions while keeping the auto-pilot on right up to landing the plane. You've got to sit in the co-pilot's seat to handle the job of just turning nobs, pushing buttons, flicking switches, reading the scopes for confirmation, toying with the rudder pedals, pulling back the throttle a notch, and lowering the landing gear just before landing. The auto-pilot will do all the rest. It's the pilot.

This channel and its videos are fantastic, as I feel i am really in the cockpit of the plane in question.
I still remember what the Boeing, NTSB and FAA representatives said after the adam air air crash investigation, "This planes fate is to crash due to the company want to save some dollars" The accident main cause is the flight system that missmatch due to different type of flight system being install (737- 400 use 737- 300 part if im not mistaken) for saving maintenance budget.

The "Mayday: Air Accident Investigation" series had an episode about this disaster, with some more details on the failure of the autopilot and what happened after that. As noted here, the Captain reset the autopilot so that it would not keep the aircraft on the incorrect course that was caused by the faulty INS; however, he should then have kept the aircraft flying straight and level for 40 seconds or more to confirm the new setting. He did not do that, so when he returned to troubleshooting the INS issue, the autopilot shut off completely, and disaster followed.
So when it reset, the autopilot didn't immediately understand its position, altitude, height, etc.
It's like we restart PC and suddenly open all game and programs on our PC altogether. It's goin confused.

Thank God my parents never flew adam air. It was very well known that their safety records are shitty, and good thing that my dad was a pilot and knew better... Thanks for making this video! Indonesian airlines was really bad back then lol, I’ll always get scared for my parents since they travel out a lot. It’s better now though, thankfully.

I've flown on probably 40+ flights, a good few long haul (South Africa, the USA) from Scotland, I'm terrified of flying so much so I get tranquilizers from my GP prior to flights. I've flown in small Cessna type aircraft with one other person (the pilot) , to 747s, doesn't matter which type of flight or aircraft... I'm petrified, yet I am absolutely addicted to watching this channels videos, WHY? what is wrong with me? When the planes go sideways or flip upside down before crashing I feel fear like no other yet I cannot stop watching them, someone send help... I've always thought I'd die in a Plane Crash, I used to have dreams about planes landing near my home on the street or planes crashing and the following day I'd see on the news a Plane Crash just like the dream I'd had the night before. Maybe I died in a Plane Crash in a past life.

I've flown like 30 times across country and to Germany and back. Every time I watch these videos I imagine what it would be like to be those poor passengers and flight crew and I can't even wrap my head around it...so sad. Every time I get a feeling in the pit of my stomach watching these.

I am addicted to this channel while simultaneously scaring myself to never get back on a plane. I recognize the stats say I’ll be fine but all it takes is once And most of these tragedies end with human error being the cause rather it be the pilot or engineer faults from Maintenance

Also Adamair never recovered from this and another accident flight - fortunately it was 'just' a hard landing (edit - add to that a flight that was lost for a worrying amount of time) and the airline didnt make it a few years after this. It was the very next year they went under. I would like to know if it was financial or if they had their operator's license permanently revoked?

This is similar to a crash involving an L-1011 about forty years ago. The flight crew became preoccupied with an issue with a landing gear indicator while in a holding pattern over a Florida airport and failed to notice the autopilot had been inadvertently shut off. The craft kept descending until it pancaked into the Everglades.

I found the image of Adam Air 574 in its terminal dive (08:04 to 08:11) to be pure horror, far more unsettling that anything dreamed up in fiction. And the thought of just how rapidly that situation escalated from a simple mistake to a lethal outcome chills the blood even more.
They put the public at risk and I can't understand how a pilot would fly an aircraft craft that had so many complaints. It would be better be without a job but alive. And that plane had many owners before Indonesia bought it. It was a flying coffin.

Very good and informative research into the whole thing, the search for the black boxes, the reasons, the research into the pilot's complaints and problems, the responses, and the governing bodies' actions.
The bottom line seems to be that the pilots were subconsciously flying by the seat of their pants in cloud and everything felt fine because it was a co-ordinated bank, then when they sensed they were diving they instinctively pulled back on the stick instead of levelling the wings and chopping the throttles.
can you explain what levelling of the wings means ?
