What ever happened to on-road grip racing? I remember spending my childhood in front of the local hobby town USA, racing around PVC pipes with my 1/10th scale team Losi JRXS. I can't find anywhere even remotely close that does indoor or outdoor on road racing anymore.
@@NNFaNRacingoutdoor onroad is somewhat dead in America. Definitely more popular in Europe. Indoor carpet on road (12th scale pan car/ touring car) is still somewhat popular, but the most popular rc racing right now I would probably say is 10th scale offroad carpet racing. The grip is so high that in the end it feels pretty much like onroad, just with some fun jumps here and there. I would totally reccomend trying out a 10th scale 2wd carpet buggy.
If you need a 3d model of something like this and customized to you own specifications, i can make it for you
in early 2021 I bought an M-08 Tamiya concept RC kit (and then you have to order the motors, servos, the polycarbonate body of the car you want, paint, etc. seperately). It was such a fun build and enjoyable thing to do. I also love building gundams mostly and ive done a FEW regular model kits. You even get to tune the suspension with different shock oil, damping settings, spring stiffness and ride hight, different control arm adjustments for different camber levels, etc. I highly reccomend building an RC car kit if you can. Mine isnt built as a drift car though, just a racing RC with an ND Miata body.
I think after buying EVERYTHING for my car I spent maybe $500 total?
Yeah, $3k or more into a drift car seems a bit high. Especially just two wheel drive. Hell, my totally upgraded 1/5 scale HPI Baja 5b with an Oneil brothers ported 34cc 2 stroke racing motor cost just a tad above that. Only thing stock is the gas tank and recover box.
@@TheDoozie43 crazy thing, some of those drift chassis alone cost 1-2k
The shot that begins at 10:23 with the three crawlers rolling along the rocky top in the setting sun is just E P I C. It looks exactly like real full-size vehicles. It’s just insane. Donut has no equal in the UA-cam car world in my opinion.
Thats how rc cars actually works, scale models based in real models, reason why some looks like the Ford Raptor, Jeep Wrangler and a large etcetera, what I was especting are also racing rc cars
@@matthewmondragon2074 I understand, but it’s also the way they shot that moment-it truly enhances the realism.
@@TheBeardSupreme Yeah, they nailed the perspective in that shot.
Dude, those orbiting shots of the crawlers was freaking legit. They looked like real cars with scale! Massive kudos to the camera operator!

Man, i would watch the s*it out of this !
That one got me to litterally lol. Hilarious.
I'd love to see a mini season of High/Low for RC drift cars. Keep the teams, but each person has their own RC car to work on.
Love this idea
Then take on Hoonigan at the finale (a bunch of them have RC drift cars too)
But done with the younger cousins of this crew.

Iconic! I would watch that any day of the week
5 grand?? Then I remembered I bought a full sized Starion solely so I could turn it into a drift car years ago just a bit over $3k!
Inflation
@@Dragon-xd9em nah the individual components just add up, chassis, motor, esc, servo, gyro, battery, lipo batter charger, receiver, transmiter, shell, wheels, tires, etc.. my build is about 700 bucks all together even tho the esc for example only costs 50 bucks, stuff adds up
@@alexandremartins1462 oh, i see
I have a Traxxas Slayer and a Revo 3.3 which are Nitro RC cars. Had them for 9 years ever since I was little. When they broke originally my dad paid for it but ever since I got a job when I was 15 I paid for the parts. I’ve paid upwards of 2300$ in total over 3 years of having the two of them. But also what didn’t help is when my friend tried to drive the Revo and drove it straight into a carriage wheel and annihilated the whole thing. Chassis was bent, and everything on the front end was done for so I had to rebuild the entire thing. Not to mention the Nitro engines that they use cost 300$ for a new one and i used to break them a lot because I didn’t know how to tune the carburetor properly when I was little so it would run to lean or to rich and the con-rod would split right in half 😂
There isn’t a specific single 1/10 drift car going for 5k, the most expensive drift esc is 259 the most expensive gyro is 175 the most expensive chassis is 900. There’s no way to make it 5grand
Thanks for showing RC guys - I love cars and RC. I run a motorsport club where my students build, tune and race RC. And we also have a little JDM chat mixed in there.

As a RC UA-cam channel am super stoked to see you all throw a bit of Full size Auto love to the tiny versions. You guys pretty much hit the nail on the head, mid range and starter Hobby grade vehicles are the best way to start. To drop 5k on a car and find out you cant drive it is a tough lesson. Thank you for sharing our hobby to such a large Audience and thank you for doing the hobby justice!!! Awesome as always!
Driving these with goggle display (like many people fly drones) through the cockpit view, would be pretty awesome i think.
Same here!!!! It's awesome!
@@popopr5113 I did that for all my 1/10 + scale vehicles. Also hand made animated drivers for immersion factor. Some go so fast I highly recommend not driving in that view exclusively, but it is great for crawlers.
@@LtZerge 😳🔥🔥
Unsure if already mentioned but your low ends are toy grade, so straight away they aren't meant to be on the same level, manufacturers like wltoys and such make entry prices vehicles that are hobby grade.
This comment is gold and needs a response
I had a TRAXXAS E-MAX in my early teens. Super fun, affordable and easy to get parts for. I wouldn't mind an upgraded model even now in my 20's
Over 20 years of RC experience and this is one of the better RC videos I’ve seen from a 1:1 car channel. Great job on the video.
As a huge rc enthusiast I really loved this video. I own over 60rcs. Crawlers being my favorite. Loved seeing nolans excitement when crawling. He really did sum it up great. It might not be the same as 1:1 but does give that same satisfaction. Awesome video Nolan!
Plus, I feel like the crawlers do teach and train real crawlers to understand how to map out paths and the physics of real crawling at full scale. It may looks like just screwing around but I'd rather flip and tumble my $500 RC than my $50000 vehicle
I thought my grandfather coming on 20 rcs was insane, but Jesus dude, you take the cake. I respect that
@@vacrawlers5436 haha. I design rc parts for a living so like to tell myself it's a business expense. 🤣

I build a 1/10th scale rock crawler and taped a small FPV drone & flashlight to it so I can inspect my crawl space without having to climb around under the house. Very useful.
I bought an original SCX10 kit the day were released, with a few upgrades and some DIY mods costing less than $120, it still can crush most of the newer crawlers. Buy midrange, upgrade smartly, hit the trails, and have fun most of all. Great video Donut!

Crawling brought me back into the RC hobby. If you are in Southern Colorado you have to visit "The Crawl Space South", they have everything drift/crawl in their store, including a drift track and plenty of rocks.
I love the universal laughter found in UA-cam RC videos across the globe
From someone who doesn't care about RC, this was a great watch. Well done, Nolan. You found a new, fresh thing you liked and are making content out of it, good shit! 👏
For someone into rc it was ok, they missed the on road class and their “expensive basher” wasn’t expensive or fast
I agree with Ajay, there are actually 2 classes not being represented. On road touring cars and off road race cars. Each style has their own challenges, and since the Donut guys are new to R/C, I can't fault them for not knowing.
@@ajaysalgaonkar685 Price is relative and always has been. Speed is also relative. The Losi was very fast and expensive compared to that cheapy and the Arma. You honestly can't expect them to hit every little niche RC category. They got the big ones.

Nolan seemed very educated with all the different categories of RC vehicles they tested in this video, I personally have been in the RC crawling side of the hobby for 4+ years, and almost seems Nolan was too, loved seeing car content in a different scale!

TRX4 gang
Same. Did Crawling with a TRX4 and RC drifting back in the Sakura D3 days when Gyros just became a thing.
I was surprised at the level Nolan talked about these things, the level of control he had with the crawlers.
I mean, I would never had expected someone who isn't into RC drift to know and specifically point out the fact that gyros were THE one thing that made RWD drifting actually viable.
Such an esoteric thing for anyone who just scratches the surface of these hobbies, imo.

The childlike joy in Nolans eyes makes this episode awesome. I wanna see you guys have an RC battle with the hoonigan boys.
think you guys need to remake this video but use the traxxas xmaxx as the basher. you will enjoy it a lot more with how much power it really has and it takes 8s, it’s by far my favorite truck out of all my rc trucks
Or even an arma senton 6s
Traxxass more like 🤣 my outcast exb survives two or three packs of carnage when we hit the skate part while my buddy’s Xmaxx is being wrenched on, on the sidelines more than he runs the damn thing.
I literally said the same thing. The Lasernut is the worst car to bash with. And I'm speaking from experience. Grab a Maxx or an Outcast or hell even a dang Senton or Slash. Those things will never break and they are literally around the same price as the Lasernut. If not way cheaper.
8s has nothing to do with power. All it means is it has 8 cells
@@asw912608 I'm talking about durability. The Lasernut is a damn glass cannon from my personal experience.
That's awesome. I love you guys content and it's refreshing to see you guys show a part of my hobby here on Donuts. Kudos 👌🏽
This video is going to bring tons of new rc guys to the hobby!
I’m a car guy but I am heavy into rc crawlers
You guys should do another episode of this but cover some of the club racing aspects of rc and the different kinds of rc racing like onroad offroad carpet offroad and the various classes and clubs people can join. I hope your sponsors appreciate how high quality your spots are. They’re always hilarious to the point I sit through the whole thing
Wish you would have mentioned the thrills of Nitro RC. They're really the most fun. Especially the vintage 90s and early 2000s stuff.
This was such a cool video. Makes me want to get one for sure
like someone said b4 me: "I'd love to see a mini season of High/Low for RC drift cars. Keep the teams, but each person has their own RC car to work on."
I used to be way into bashers and if you're considering it, it's an amazing hobby if your near a little forest with loads of walking trails or whatever. It's decently cheap and the scale feels like you're actually driving a car, but 3rd person and with less risk of injury. Seeing the little suspension work and the sheer power is amazing.
I was into bashing for years. I thoroughly enjoyed 1/5 scale much more than 1/10 or 1/8. The way the 1/5th scale handles and the power they have make it so much more fun. The weight helps it handle better. I used to fly my 1/5 buggy up huge hills where my 1/10 truck would just bounce all over
The crawlers are super cool, I feel like it might help a bit with picking lines too
I have a heavily modified Traxxas TRX4 Sport and its unreal some of the terrain it can get over.
Good stuff, I love all my Arrma RCs!
The Simi Valley bit was filmed directly across the street from my in-laws house. I so wish I could have seen you guys there!!
I have a TRX-6 with a square body cab on the front. Thing’s been dead reliable. I’ve had to replace a couple micro servos for the diff locks over the years, but I take it hiking with me all the time and it’s got 3000 miles on the original running gear, about 1500 on the current upgraded ESC, and 1000 on a cheap $12 550 motor to replace the original when that finally burnt out
trx platform, are basically a tank, slap a 6s system you got yourself a basher, slap a crawler system you got your self a one of the capale crawler out there
Yes it’s the same with the other 1/10 scale stuff they offer. I am looking out for the new Trx m. The smaller size is better for me then the 1/10 scale although the 1/10s have at the moment a better pool of aftermarket parts.
Yeah the TRX-4 and TRX-6 are one of the most capable crawlers and more if you upgrade them. I got a TRX-4 and it’s hella capable for being stock.
@@latefangs423 true
@@exo068 good choice but right now there are not many parts for the TRX-4M so I would suggest that you wait a lil more for parts to come out

I love the mini version of those classic, epic, off-road conquest shots, @10:16.
Also, I actually jumped just a little at 9:00 when, suddenly, from behind a boulder, appeared what I initially thought was the head of an excited dog - perhaps a young Rottweiler, I thought, from the few fleeting frames - with excited-dog designs* on either Nolan or the wee Bronco... Then, after two or three times through that section of video, viewing at normal speed, I played it back at half speed. This was because I'm a dork, and I wanted my timestamp to be accurate. The funniest part, in my mind, is that I wasn't in any doubt about the existence of a dog! I wasn't at all considering that anything more would be revealed during a slower play-through of the shot.
At long last, on the third or fourth time through, I finally realized the surprise cameo was, well... not a dog at all!

The nitro powered where a lil bit of pain but once you learn tuning they are redonkulous amounts of fun and FAST AS SHhhh... Great video once again guys. Killin it as usual!
Love to see our hobby get some attention! Thanks Donut!
I love when Nolan crashed and then takes both cars with him 😂 11.32

I always wanted to get into RC cars and now this is a sign 🔥
If only offroad racing was a listed category for the video aswell it is one of the most popular all over the world. I would love to be part of a part 2 Rc video! I travel and race 1/10th, 1/8th, and 1/5th Scale vehicles
Not gonna lie I didn’t expect this from this channel. And I love it I’ve been RC crawling for years and it’s honestly one of the great pleasures of mine especially when it’s winter and I can’t take my forerunner to the trails I can just pull out the crawler and go crawl at a park somewhere. There are so many great options for RC
I love that these guys got into rc, my favorite past time since I was little! When not playing with the real stuff at least 🙌
The intro for the axial Capra lists it as a vanquish 410. The vanquish 410 is from a different manufacturer and a more expensive rig.
Used to work at a local hobby shop in my area that prided itself on being the best brick and mortar RC spot available in the state. Didn't know a thing about RC cars when I was hired, went through trial by fire repairing cars and figuring out customer issues. Learned a lot from customers and owners. Now I have a basher and a drift car I take out every once and a while to mess with. Good fun and good people, sucks that my wallet aches just thinking about it.
