I was about to comment the same thing. I started watching donut recently. Seems like their content has gotten lame compared to what it was a year or two ago

The fact that donut has reached the point where they can blow nearly 3 grand on an RC car is a testament to how much love, blood, sweat and tears these guys put into the growth of the channel. Keep up the good work guys!

considering they didn’t keep the cars I’m sure the shop let them build and drive them for a little marketing but still the amount of dedication and passion put into this channel really allows the content to breathe without fear of money constraints. Quality stuff on par and exceeding show quality

Love seeing you guys get in to RC. Been one of my all time favorite hobbys for 41 years. Just got a Losi Bog Hog mega truck. Been spending a ton on mods to make it even better than stock. Money goes quick when upgrading!

I could tell that this wasn't the most exciting thing the guys have ever done, but as someone that builds both types of cars, it's great seeing RC get some love. The mod game is strong with RC stuff and it get's super addictive considering how much you can do both cheaply and legally compared to real cars. There's a place for both in my garage.

I randomly met someone out at a restaurant and after chatting he invited us to the R/C drift track facility next door. I was given a full tour and got to drive some drift cars and was blown away by the depth of customization. Good stuff
I know very little about the RC world, but I know there is a whole lot of fun stuff out there. Doesn't have to be a fan or rocket car to be interesting. I'll watch :)
Ill tell you this much, dont trust a shop that sells you an $800 transmitter. A really good high end one is about $220-250

@@jordandeanda6244 Not really. I race 1/10 4wd 13.5 buggy. I have a RadioLink RC4GS V3. 100 dollar radio. its a ok radio. I need more in depth settings and more better feel. Im thinking about a Futaba T4PM Plus. 270 dollars. Not that bad. My uncle has a 7PX. Which is a 700 dollar radio. It is an amazing radio. Every setting you need and the feel of it is amazing. And with that radio you feel more connected to the car than a cheaper one like my RadioLink.

As someone who's built many RC planes in the past for cheap, im kind of shocked with how expensive the car RC counterpart is for some of the same types of electronics.

Back when I was a teenager I was into hobby grade rc cars, both crawlers and drifters. My old Sakura d1 chassis was fully aluminum, all anodized.. was really nice.

You can do it much cheaper. Just like with real cars, get a used one. I have $80 in mine and it's pretty fun.

I was into RC drifting when it first started I have a couple drift missiles. One of my hot rods is a associated TC3 with a carbon fiber chassis that was technically never sent into production. If you want to spend a crapload of money build yourself an outlaw drag car. I'm over three grand into my build for this season alone and I'm looking at another five or $600 before the car is ready to make its first pass

The MST shock absorbers are good because they can be customized to the track. A softer spring is prefect for polished concrete which is what there drifting on however if you are drifting on carpet your will want a stiffer spring because carpet tends to be more bumpy.

Love the RC content. I will say though, for apples to apples, low car should have also gotten a 10.5 brushless setup, just a cheap one as it is standard in spec drift. I was curious to see the Gyro's too as I have competed in drift events, but always ran without one, almost looks more difficult with it.

I think Donut should do a series comparing 2 exact same cars with different parts, one focusing on handling and suspension, and one focusing only on power mods, and see which one is faster over a track. Like a 100hp civic with the best suspension possible vs a stock suspension civic with 200hp for example

I just got into the rock crawling rc cars right after christmas. ive got 1/10 and 1/24 scale and they are both awesome. upgrading them has become my favorite part.
i remember getting into drift rc 11 years ago and loving it, spent £110 on a full rc car and thought it was the best! the hobby has come so far now!

As someone who is very into RC, I am so glad toy guys did this. I have everything from nitro powered 1/8 scale buggies to rock crawlers. A couple classic Tamiyas, some Traxxas, and a few oddballs. I will say that in my opinion, value for features and durability, Redcat Racing is the way to go. I have 2 of their 1/10 short course trucks, and a Gen8 V2. Love all 3. Check them out sometime.
As I'm sure you know as I do having been in the hobby for several years now. Spending the most money on some parts does not mean it will perform better than a much cheaper part.
Fully agree with both of you. Redcat gets a lot of undeserved hate but can be good overall. I run a gen7 pro as my crawler and after a few mods it kept with fully built Trx4s and scx10s. After converting it to an lcg type build the comparison to others is insane.
Rc shop worker here, for the money if you want something not very upgradable, redcat is great, but if you want something more upgradable, the base level mst's and yokomo's are phenomenal.
Redcat has really stepped up their game in the last few years... I remember owning a 1/6 scale truggy and it was hella fun but parts were hard to come by... nowadays it's much better.
@@theverystormycloud4011 Your hobby store needs to do more research if you think the RDS isn't upgradeable. A lot of Yokomo and ReveD parts will fit it.

I would love to see in the end what you guys recommend as the perfect mixture of those parts for a great deal overall price RC. Which parts were worth it, versus which parts you could save money on.

Okay the video is great and all, but the AD?! I can't stop thinking about how great that sponsor was. The camera angles were just perfect! The way how the camera started with a slow shot of the beach, then back into the car and quickly focused on you guys was great! Nearly dropped my jaw! Then a wide shot of the Nissan was just 😩

You should check out the 1/5 scale on road FG's and add a Taylor RC 55 supreme engine for insane RPM's. Realistic sound and can be set up to drift, about $5000-$6000 easy.

Because of the last RC video, I actually went out and brought a drift RC car! Me and my dad built it together as well, just need to paint the body and get a battery…. Unfortunately New Zealand doesn’t have much variety in parts… still look forward to driving it!

On the hood decal, spray soapy water where it's going and also dunk the decal in the same water. You can then slide it into position, smooth it off with a tissue and you're done. This is how wraps are put in real cars.
I'm a huge Losi fan! I'm rebuilding my XXXS chassis from back in the day! Bought a "Killerbody" brand body modeled after an R34 Skyline! Can't wait to get it done, and tear up the track! Dang I wish you could share pics in the comments section!
Been into Rc since I was a kid and still love it, done every aspect of it and on road is my jam. Realistic bodies to do up, high speed bashing parking lots has quickly become my favorite thing. If you want a straight drift car just buy an MST RMX rtr kit and be done. The upgrades are endless if you want or you can just leave it stock and have a fun time. High end yokomo kits are cool but the low end is a waste of money. I’ve owned them all at one time or another and the best advice is to buy and run what your local hobby shop carries that way if you break stuff you’re not down forever waiting on parts to ship. Hobbytown carries MST and more than likely there’s one close by plus they’re all locally owned so get out and support your LHS!
I think the correct answer is "medium car" A plastic chassis car with decent shocks, decent gyro and a mid range controller that you can tune the gyro and steering setting from is your perfect point. The high end stuff is a lot of clout but someone new can get lost in the settings if you're not "paying someone to tune it". Got a bunch of friends with a MST RMX 2.0 RTR, yokomo V4 gyro and adjustable links have extremely good success
Low car needed the gyd 550, apart from the servo a good gyro is the one and only upgrade you should go for if you're on a tight budget

Redcat drift car is my favorite, throw a brushless on it with adjustment for suspension and some rubber race tires, it's fun and cheap for someone new to RC.
I've never built or even messed with nice Rx cars but I've built a whole lot of racing quad copters and FPV airplanes. I'm building one right now. Weird how much is the same and how much is different

as a member of the rc drift-gang I really enjoy your videos. If anyone sees this and want's to get into the hobby themselves let me tell you: You really don't need most of the stuff here. You don't even need to spend as much as they did for low-car. Getting a cheap tamiya onroad chassis and basic banggood/aliexpress components is perfectly fine. I spent around $700 for my rc drift car and it doesn't even have a gyro. Some of the more expensive stuff will be nice but by no means necessary, and I mean performance-wise. You can hit all the drift maneuvers just fine even with cheaper equipment. You can look at the videos of drift44 for example, they were done with only "basic" equipment by today's standarts.

Good video overall but from an RC nerd I gotta say:
1) Tune low car and set up the expense transmitter (remote) with it, then run the test again. I'm guessing it would perform very close to the same as high car.
2) The issue with "professional" drivers is they're already going to be biased towards high car simply because it has all the expensive parts on it. It would've been better to give them a blind test of both cars after they had both been tuned with the same transmitter.

It’s a great hobby to get into especially because owning a really drift car is wayyyy more expensive and you can drive these in your house or any parking lot(smooth concrete parking garages are best) and not get in trouble or have your car inpounded! And you can get just about any car you could ever want that you probably can’t afford in real like, multiple different dream cars for one chassis
