    I'm a trucker, not a farmer, but I live in Iowa, I've helped my uncle on his old dairy farm, and people don't realize what goes into farming. You and all the other UA-cam farmers help prove Bloomberg wrong by his infamous saying, "farming, all you do is plant stuff and some water, and that's it." Something to that effect.

      You should have tried it 50-years ago when the machines were usually under-powered and open-air. No automation, air-conditioning, auto-steer etc..

    • @davegift197
      @davegift197 3 роки тому

      @@Snarkapotamus I was a teenager in the late 50's working on farms, plowing on an IH open air, no seat cushion or umbrella tractor. I caught the full effect of being out on the Northwest Kansas Prairie. We definitely had some hot days. And sometimes got caught by the quick popup rain showers and lightning.
      Very little automatic on farm equipment back then. Pull a string hooked to the drill to start planting into the soil. Then pull harder to disengage. Same operations for plows, basically. I wore long sleeves and a big straw hat to keep from getting sunburn. When you turned down the field so the wind (almost a constant blowing of dirt kicked up by my plow, etc.), was blowing from behind you, there was definitely the opportunity to get mouthfuls and nose fulls of that dust. When I got back to the farm, there always was a nice image of my sunglasses on my face with dust covering everything else I didn't earn much back then but thoroughly enjoyed the time on the tractor to think.

    It has been the wettest July here in Georgia in several years. Most folks have missed the first hay cutting due to rain. Not complaining though cause we usually are very hot and dry. Never easy to get back into wet areas when they are in the field. We usually just drill in the wet spots and hope for the best. Always glad to see you and hear what you have been up to. Farm kids now days are so much more in front of everyone in technology. Used to it was the farm kids that were the strongest on to have on your team. Not always true now days. They are sill strong. Yet the skills they have in working so many different pieces of equipment and its programs just to operate it. You Rock Darling.

    Like Rick Toole said, you are one impressive young lady and I am sure your parents are very proud of you. Hell, most people fall down when it comes to just backing stuff up but not you. And your angst over the population count shows the depth of your knowledge of the process, the seed, and why things are done the way they are. I'm an old guy who grew up on a farm, probably older than your dad so let him know from me, I tip my hat to the job he's done with his little girl, and mom too! Can't forget her!
