Week Recap: Harvest and Figuring Out How to Help with One Leg

- It’s definitely been an interesting week! Rest assured that by the end of the week I was feeling much better, the swelling had gone down, and I was doing good and grateful I was able to help as much as I did. It can only get better from here!

Miss Erin, you are a ray of hope for your generation and the future of our country. You make this Hoosier proud. I applaud your Dad for having an escort when moving equipment. Not all do. I came around a blind corner last Friday evening in Staunton and was face to face with a 40 ft corn head full lightbars blazing. No escort, but the cart with the grain head was following behind. Fortunately the shoulder was wide enough I could pull totally off the road to let him pass. Had I not been being cautious, it could have been ugly in a hurry.
Quit beating yourself up. It happened. It's history. Just learn from it and move on. You're an asset, one leg or two, and I'm certain your Dad would agree.

Happy birthday. You have more ambition than many who are healthy. Don’t be hard on yourself. Neighbors helping neighbors is a great thing. Eventually you will get to pay them back or pay it forward. One of the great things about small farming communities.
So Erin is a year older, wiser and smarter. Congratulations! I really get a warm feeling when I watch your videos Erin, you are so passionate about the farm and all the work involved in being a successful farm. More people need to know how much work goes into the very start of the food chain, as nothing gets put on the table until some type of farmer does their work to get it from the raw state into the food pipeline. Again congratulations on what you and your family do.

Don't be so hard on yourself young lady, you are alive and still with us. We all are happy to see you here on one leg than seeing a your headstone, it could have been way worst young lady remember that.You get alot done even with one leg. Try some ibuprofen for the swelling and make some homemade ice packs just put in a 1 gallon zip lock bag 2 cups water and 1 cup pure rubbing alcohol and put it in a freezer and you will have your own homemade ice pack.
you're not an idiot accidents happen. take care of yourself and don't be so hard yourself. I could see the pain in your eyes it must be very sore.
Just remember young lady NOBODY is perfect, there was 1 perfect person to walk this earth and they nailed him to a cross. You can't carry blame and beat yourself up like you have been because it will eat you alive. Crap happens, its inconvenient but oh well, it will get better. Stay safe and God bless

I wish I could bring you some soup... LOL. Seriously though, I hope you get to feeling better, and please keep that leg and foot elevated. It will make a huge different on your recovery. Tough cookie. We all now that. Don’t push it. You don’t need to prove that your a bad ass. We know your tougher than most guys your age. My daughter is 25 and a nurse in night shifts. She gets mad if I can’t schedule hay baling and working cows so that she can help. Even tho I have people to help me? She wants to be involved!!! His bless gals raised in the farm. Erin stop beating yourself up over your accident hun. My uncle family farms here in Alabama and in 2019 we was unloading beans into a auger with the tractor hooked to it. My uncle not think reached across the PTO shaft and it grabbed his shirt sleeve and tore his arm off. We all make mistakes I love watching your videos you do a great job and what little you can do now helps your dad so keep smiling and don't get down on yourself

A good friend of mine was helping his father to dig fence posts with a tractor PTO driven post hole digger. He was sitting on the 3 point hitch to make it push down harder to dig faster as he had reached over to pick up a soft drink from the tractor fender and then the PTO shaft caught his coat sleeve and his arm wrapping it around the PTO shaft as it shattered every bone inside of the sleeve and his left hand was slapping him in his right part of his face from behind his head and back. It all happened within a few seconds. His father had stopped the PTO as fast as he could and that saved his arm from being pulled all the way off. It took him 11 surgeries with lots of pins and screws put in and 2 years to recover from it. Farming is a very dangerous profession.
Speaking from 49 yrs experience on one leg, your doing great.

Sorry I’m a little late but that’s just how some things go. Thank you for keeping us updated on current events and sharing your activities. You look great and seem to be dealing with everything pretty. Stop beating yourself up, you had an accident and you suffered a nasty injury. It’s bad enough that your body suffered but there’s no reason to make your crazy by concentrating on how this affects others. You never appear to put yourself first but now is the time to think about Erin. Please accept a long distance hug and the whisper in your ear that everything is going to be alright. Erin said it on other videos. Please stop beating yourself up over an accident. I will say it again your Dad and everyone is happy nothing worse happened. Accidents happen in life it could have happen to anyone trying to move that size tire. You learned your lesson and it won't happen again. We all do things in life that are beyond us. Some get away with it, others not so much. Your an incredibly strong woman that just keeps going. Keep your head up, heal fast and keep pushing forward.
Please start use your crutches to move around when your knee scooter isn't available. Yes, they are inconvenient and a hassle, but they enable you to be stable and safely move from one spot to another. Hopping is going to lead to your falling and hurting something else. Chet just lost his wife, but Eric is a big strong Swedish American farm worker. He is a handsome young man. Maybe Chet after a little time... Keep that foot elevated as much as possible. If it’s too swollen they won’t do surgery I know from experience lol. I’m sure they appreciate all the help you’re able to do. I hope for a speedy recovery! Be careful on that scooter, I flipped over the front of mine when I broke my foot/leg and it wasn’t fun at all. Happy Birthday, I hope it was the best it could be!

I feel your pain Erin, I broke my left ankle in May. Learned how to get around on knee scooter, crutches and the I-Walk. Had to deal with the swelling and discomfort. Like you, I learned to do a lot with one leg. Hang in there. I did start walking on my two feet again on the first of October.
Buckle up Erin! Not talking about in the field, but on the highway you really should be wearing your seat belt. Take care!

After this video I definitely changed my reference of what a hero is. Farmers are the true heroes. I will appreciate what is on my plate a little bit more than I already did.
