Chris wrote this plays lead guitar and lead singer. He has one heck of a back catalogue. He so underrated writer and has to be one of the top guitarists in the world and that voice is haunting. In the last few years he has overcome cancer several times and he is still out onstage doing his thing. Inspired to write this after getting stuck in a traffic jam for several hours on the M25 outside London, I’m so glad you covered the whole song including the beautiful bluesy opening. Gotta say guys I’ve watched tons of your reactions and this for me is your best! If you wanna carry on down the Chris Rea rabbit hole then I’d highly recommend Looking for a Rainbow. Chris always wanted to be a rock star but never ever saw himself as one and always thought he had a terrible voice and through the last few years has genuinely gone through hell with regards his health and in this modern day is almost unrecognisable from his days of the 1980’s when “Road To Hell” was first penned. Chris was inspired to write this whilst stuck in a traffic jam one morning on the M25 (for Americans, this is the motorway that circles Greater London). He was watching all the other people in the jam realising they were all on their way to work, probably in London. It really was a journey to hell, but the money was good and hence gave people a better materialistic lifestyle. I know this because I lived that life. I have a comfortable life now I’m retired but I sometimes look back and wonder if the time I missed with my family working 18 hours every day was actually worth it.
Do yourselves a favour and try to listen to Tell me there’s a Heaven, but I warn you it will bring you to tears.
For those who don’t know Chris has been in poor health for a number of years now and has miraculously survived many illnesses that would have finished off most of us…..

He has a great voice and skills on the slide guitar, and so much in his back catalogue you'll love if you love this. A huge ecological message, the terrible things money can do to the Planet, for 86. One of my siblings, truck driver, brought this tape to home because he wanted me to tell him the story in the lyrics; we are from Spain. He said "now I liked even more".

    - On The Beach: It was such a hit in the times of Café del Mar (the sunsets in Ibiza) and those chillout musics (for the dawns after the party).

I adored this song the very first time I heard it on the radio, and that hasn't diminished at all in all the years since. The little refences to clogged and toxic rivers, the line about how it isn't a technological breakthrough but instead the way to hell, eternal damnation, is such a strong ecological (and spiritual) message about how the push for more and more industrialization is ruining both our environment, and our quality of life.

Espresso Logic is the title track of one of my favourite albums of his. Some properly rocky ,bluesy tracks on here.
Chris has been through some horrific health problems but still retains his unassuming, dry sense of humour. He has moved recently to more blues music and his voice has , if anything, become deeper and richer. A huge amount of music to take a deep dive into.
