It's Mark Knopfler on lead guitar and vocals. He's amazing. "The lyrics were inspired by a performance of a jazz band playing in the corner of an almost empty pub in Deptford, South London. At the end of their performance, the lead singer announced their name, the Sultans of Swing; Knopfler found the contrast between the group's dowdy appearance and surroundings and their grandiose name amusing."

This video you found faded out criminally early, right at the start of the guitar solo that made stars of Mark Knopfler and Dire Straights. p.s. Part of Knopfler's unique sound is that he "finger picks", i.e. he doesn't use a plastic pick, instead he uses the nails on several fingers of his right hand. This means he can create a much more complex sound - to me this gives his sound a unique blend of spanish guitar and rock. p.p.s. I suggest you ignore the "alchemy tour version" recommendations: you want to be familiar with the original before you listen to reimagined versions enjoyed by some fans.

The George and Harry being referred to here are George Young and Harry Vander from arguably the most successful Aussie 60's band "The Easybeats". George Young is the older brother to Malcolm and Angus Young of AC/DC fame. Can't be certain, but I think the line "Savin' it all, for Friday night" is a reference to the Easybeats' biggest hit "Friday on my Mind".

The band and the audience were feeling it. This version is so special... with the perfect foil of the lead singer's unique vocal style against the music, the artistry on his guitar, the bass deftly coordinating the pace... building and building as the song goes on, and spurred on by incredible drumming... it is a masterpiece that comes to a monumental and melodic climax to the cheers of the audience! Dire Straits really nailed it that night, giving one of the BEST live performances featuring guitars and drums ever! Mark Knopfler is a great, great but somewhat underrated guitarist. I love his style and tone. That guitar he’s playing is a Fender Stratocaster which is known as a very versatile guitar. It can produce a wide range of tones. From very clean clear notes to extremely dirty, grungy growls.
