The great chris rea, nobody sounds like him, he's so unique. It's rea'ah
I bought this album as soon as I heard this song on the radio. Money well spent! Great suggestion Steve!
Can't ignore the facts!
Another fun fact is that Chris didn't pick up a guitar until he was 21 years old.
I remember seeing this when it was first released on MTV!
Great reaction, thank you. Chris is a great talent who could have been a lot more successful, if he had wanted to be. He did have hit records in America but as I said he didn't want to tour the States and leave his family for so long.
Anyway glad that you enjoyed it.
Cheers from across the pond.
😊😎🎸🇬🇧🇺🇦
"auberge" as Album on a proper hifi 👌
When theres some time left and a sixpack... Great Produktion....
This song can be interpreted in many ways. But have liked it since it came out in 1989 I think. Great reaction. Greetings from Norway
I'm sure Chris gets his name pronounced all kinds of ways, but it's Ree-AH.
Never mind that, it's always good to see someone discovering someone who is, in my opinion, the UK's second best songwriter, second only to Elton John. A brilliant guitarist, wonderful singer, master of the catchy hook. It's a great regret of mine that I never saw him in concert. In his heyday that must have been quite a show. Sadly he hasn't toured for many years - I know that because I've have crawled over burning coals to see him.
My favourite song is the slower 'Curse of the Traveller' or maybe 'Looking For the Summer'. There are three songs that run together: On The Beach/Little Blonde Plaits/Giverny - no one captures the lazy, dusty, lusty heat of the South of France quite like Chris.
First time on this channel, nice Rea-action! 😊
Yes, Giverny, Giverny, Giverny is so friggin good
Chris Rea is a master of building songs to crescendo, other songs of his to check out would be my favourite, Steel River (try a live version which features his great piano player Max Middleton), Texas or Stainsby Girls. The full length version of Auberge is a good one too. Definitely check out Steel River though
How about Nothing to Fear?
I have never heard of his last name referred as rear . I have always heard it pronounced as re ‘a’
he wrote this song after being stuck on the M25 the motorway/highway that surrounds london and you can be stuck on it for hours....
class
Sadly, Chris no longer plays live and hasn't done so since December 2017 when he collapsed on stage mid-gig. He definitely wasn't touring in 2023.
Wow. I didn't know that. God bless him I hope to God he's doing OK these days, he certainly seems to have gone through hell in his life. 🙋♂
The ‘motorway to hell’ here is the M25 motorway to London. The ‘80s was the decade of the ‘yuppy’ - young upwardly mobile individuals flocking to the metropolis to make mega-bucks. A decade in Margaret Thatcher’s Britain, characterised by Nueveau-Riche and greed. This was what Chris wrote of here, the idea coming to him while travelling the M25.
Hello ! You looks as old as me, no offense (about 45’ years old). How didn’t you heard this song before ? I can’t understand sorry.
Well, i’ve seen him on stage many times and he is magic !! As Mark Knopfler is❤
You’re close on the age. Not only have I never heard this song. I never heard of him. Maybe it’s because I haven’t listened to the radio in about 30 years? Lol…it’s true.
@@PERKSreCAP Plus, if you're American it's even more understandable, since Chris Rea has not had much success in the US (he is English). He is huge at least in Europe.
No, his name is Chris Reeeeeeea ... LONG E !
Thank You for the correction!
Never heard of Chris Rea? I heard he was rejected from Mark Knopfler's band. They wanted to play together, but they couldn't decide whether to call the new band Chris Straits or Dire Rea. 🤣
