Growing up as a weirdo in the Midlands of UK, Motorhead were the band that united punks, goths, new romantics, hippies, thrasher, nobody complained if Motorhead came on. And Ace Of Spades was kind of the outsider anthem of 80s and late 70s.
So true, I remember rock clubs of the day and you'd get the different factions sitting together and keeping to themselves, but certain bands and songs came along which united everyone, this was definitely one. I always hated traditional heavy metal, I loved punk, post punk, Indie (mainly, I was an Indie Kid), ska and lots of other music, folk, blues etc., but always hated metal, but like most of my peers, Motorhead changed that as its almost impossible not to love this song!

In the mid 90's I once saw Lemmy walk into a bar I was in on W.117th street a few blocks south of Lorain Ave. on the east side of the street. My buddy at the time said "hey Lemmy!", he just looked and saw "What" a little stand-off-ish. He was bad-ass.
I saw them, point blank, right next to the stage in the old Ahora Ballroom in W Hartford CT in 1983, it was by far the loudest concert I ever witnessed because they had twice as much equipment you needed in a large bar, as soon as they turned on the amps we all knew we were in for it, about half the crowd surged to the rear or went out if the room to escape. No band quite like them for mothers and I saw Deep Puple and Black Sabbath in the mid 70s in large outdoor setting and it was not as loud being outside. I felt like I was in a pressure cooker of volume and my ears rang for several days. I know I had some hearing loss but that's Rock n Roll! Well worth it .

I was beginning to think the dude was immortal to live the way he did for so long. Thanks again for all the blown out speakers, if you don't play Motorhead really loud....don't play em at all!
Lemmy's voice is compliments of whiskey and cigarettes. I love Motorhead, but sadly all three of these guys are no longer with us. RIP Lemmy, Fast Eddie, and Philthy
When I was 15 I told my parents I was going to a school disco but I went to a Motorhead gig. My ears were ringing for 2 days afterwards. Ace of Spades has to be the greatest ever metal track. Lemmy was also a great bass player with a unique style.
My parents bought me a turntable and stereo with 2 times 20W output for christmas in 77. Got 20 german marks as well. few days later I had the first Motörhead LP. NEVER in the history of parentship have parents regretted buying a stereo more... :-) Loved that disc more than anything. Saw Lemmy at age 15 the first time live and 18 times altogether, the 18th was his second last gig ever in Ludwigsburg/Germany - 14 days before his death, at age 50. He was 'with me' for 35 years and never changed. He was a shadow of himself, but did his utmost to entertain the crowd. When I heard the news of his death I cried. This man was one of very few true RocknRoller.
You are not kidding, I saw that original 3-some point blank, literally leaning on the stage. When they turned the amps on we all looked at each other, we saw some heading for the rear of the hall. Permanent hearing loss for sure but no really bad effects and loved every minute of being 3 feet from Lemmy Kilmister!
I use to watch *The Young Ones* _a British sitcom_ in the 80s and they would have Motorhead play this song in the middle of their lounge room at some point in their shows. Its a great up tempo track.
Lemmy started in a group called The Rocking Vicars, their agent lived next door to me when I was a kid. My mum was not happy when their cassocks were hung on next doors washing line🎸
Lemmy the god!!!! FYI growing up in the 80’s , Motörhead was one band that all rockers could bond over… the hair band fans, punk rockers and southern rock boys… all loved Motörhead …
The late Ian 'Lemmy' Kilminster was one of rock's ultimate warriors. A true-believer, who used to drink whiskey in pint glasses and deafen his audience of ardent admirers. One anecdote that springs to mind is the time the band (originally to be called 'Bastard') were tuning up before a gig, only for a man five miles away to phone the venue and complain he couldn't hear his TV!
The reason why you love it so much is because at it's heart, Motorhead is simply a "Rock-n-Roll" band. Not really a "Heavy Metal" band. They simply play their music with a lot of energy and personal charisma. It's just Rock-n-Roll....Hence the famous intro by Lemmy, " We are Motorhead, and we play Rock-n-Roll".....Lemmy is God!!!
Lemmy was an influential bassist back in the day. The way he used the Rickenbacker for its signature sound, played hard through overdriven tube amps created what many called a rhythmic rumble driving Motorhead's songs.
Lemmy is an example to us all. He taught us you can drink a fifth of Jack a day, eat nothing but red meat and cheese, do a bunch of speed, play thousands of hard rock shows, bang a thousand groupies, smoke thousands of cigarettes, and still die at the ripe old age of 70.
@@ibdaffy the biblical age expectancy was three score years and ten... 70yoa. In this modern time the average age at death in 2022 was just over 81yoa, so with all the medical achievements life expectancy has only moved on 11/12yrs in over 2,000 years. So your point is....
Saw this band in a small venue in Portland Oregon. They ROCKED IT. Loud and proud. For a trio the get it done! Animal on the drums. I think the muppets character was made to be like the drummer they called animal? They say if Lemmy moved in next to you, your lawn would die! Lemmy lived on cigarettes and jack&coke drinks. That’s why his voice was the way it was. He sat and played video poker in a bar the Whiskey, I believe , on THE SUNSET STIP in Los Angeles. When he wasn’t on tour, you could find him there every day, sitting at the end of the bar, minding his own business. Roger in Pierre South Dakota
Like Led Zeppelin, When Lemmy died, they called it quits. Drummer Mikkey Dee said "Motörhead is over, of course. Lemmy was Motörhead. We won't be doing any more tours or anything. And there won't be any more records. But the brand survives, and Lemmy lives on in the hearts of everyone."
Saw this original line up King Georges hall Blackburn back in '80. One of the loudest concerts I've been to. What years they were, the NWOBHM. From 78 all through to 81/82. So good to watch youngsters listening, keeping it alive.
The greatest trio ever Lemmy, Clarke and Taylor the original Motörhead I was a kid when this came out and I fell in love with this band and was a fan for over 40 years now they are all together raising hell.
I love and appreciate your input on rock music. As far as rock music goes, Motorhead is in my library. Today's music is commercialized and edited. Back in the day, it was 'in your face'. Even with the success Motorhead had, Lemmy stayed the same. Down to earth and simple. He made millions. But he kept a simple lifestyle. He was about the music. RIP Lemmy, you are truly missed.
"The only thing you see You know it's gonna be The Ace of Spades" However much you gamble, whatever you do with your life, it all ends in death. That's the message!

i like how he's speculating in the beginning this may be in the rock genre and i'm thinking to my self "he has no idea what he's in for". you guys are great!
They would have hated the term "Speed Metal" but they sure got through a lot of speed. Lemmy often said it was not so much recreational as a practicality to keep up with the touring schedule. "Dropped another handful, to keep us on the road" as one of their early lyrics put it.
@@jamesmeek3475 True, but they were the first band to play fast and hard like this. More bands started doing this type of rock and it became known as speed metal. You ask any of those bands and they will say they hail Motorhead as the band they look up to and strive to be as great as they were. Losing Lemmy was a very sad day in rock history.
The lead singer was known as Lemmy and he was Heavey Metal personified and was much loved and respected by Metal fans and the his peers around the world. He lived the real rock 'n' roll life style and was areal character. I implore you to listen to one of his interviews. Me twice too! 1988 with Girlschool and Destruction and in a festival in 2010. \m/
Play full blast , and blow your speakers .out 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸💯
The only band in the mid 80’s that both punks and metalheads loved.
There's rock, there's punk, there's metal... and then there's Motorhead.
I remember the shows.. Punks / metal heads / bikers.. it was insane.
I was a punk in 78 and we all loved Motorhead..it stood alone..I wouldnt want to have been the band to follow that ..no way!
Lemmy invented them all ❤
@@cliveedwards2958 when Overkill is done, there is only silence and only can be silence
Lemmy was the real f-n deal, a lot of guys play at being a hard ass "Rock Star" he just was....in the best way possible. I was beginning to think the dude was immortal to live the way he did for so long. Thanks again for all the blown out speakers, if you don't play Motorhead really loud....don't play em at all!
Metal God Rob Halford was concise and precise about Lemmy’s voice:
“THAT’s the voice of Rock n Roll!”
all that with only 3 guys!!!! Motorhead..... Classic! Glad you enjoyrd it!!!!
Lemmy's voice is compliments of whiskey and cigarettes. I love Motorhead, but sadly all three of these guys are no longer with us. RIP Lemmy, Fast Eddie, and Philthy
Heaven had certainly gained one hell of a band.

When I was 15 I told my parents I was going to a school disco but I went to a Motorhead gig. My ears were ringing for 2 days afterwards. Ace of Spades has to be the greatest ever metal track. Lemmy was also a great bass player with a unique style.
Class 👌
Haha I love it!
They were quite loud live. The air raid siren at the end of the show stayed ringing in my ears for a while afterwards. RIP Lemmy, Eddie and Phil.
🤘😆👍 The Young Ones!!! Great show!
Actually, just the once, but so worth it!😆....

So much Power and Energy
Great song to drive to , it will turn you into an absolute lunatic
Lemmy the god!!!!
FYI growing up in the 80’s , Motörhead was one band that all rockers could bond over… the hair band fans, punk rockers and southern rock boys… all loved Motörhead …
I absolutely love this song. Pure adrenalin, raw power. The singer, Lemmy, was a force of nature.
Amber, that character in his voice is decades of cigarettes and liquor!! Lemmy strangled every drop from his life!
That’s a fast A-B song whereever your going 👍 full throttle
Balls nailed to the wall , rock and roll ! RIP Lemmy ......
Classic. Lemmy Kilmeister was incredible.
I agree. I could be wrong but I don't think Lemmy ever referred to his band as a metal band etc....always said rock and roll...🙏👍
This song doesn't go from zero to 100 ,It STARTS at 100 !
Lemmy was an influential bassist back in the day. The way he used the Rickenbacker for its signature sound, played hard through overdriven tube amps created what many called a rhythmic rumble driving Motorhead's songs.
RIP Lemmy, Phil and Fast Eddie, in my opinion the best Motorhead line up. I hope they are all rocking in heaven and playing it loud.
Lemmy has been a legend in the uk since the 70s and was loved by so many Metal Bands. RIP mate have a pint where ever you are!
I always forget how hard the drummer goes in this song
Lemmy is an example to us all.
He taught us you can drink a fifth of Jack a day, eat nothing but red meat and cheese, do a bunch of speed, play thousands of hard rock shows, bang a thousand groupies, smoke thousands of cigarettes, and still die at the ripe old age of 70.
You obviously are still young. 70 is not that old, you will be there soon enough.
@@ibdaffy these days, that's old all things considered
@@ibdaffy - It's old if you live life at Mach 9.

whats worse was supposedly most of the the food was cold!
It's one of the greatest songs in the history of music. How can you not like it?
Really respect how you guys approach everything with an open mind Motorhead is legendary long live lemmy!
Like Led Zeppelin, When Lemmy died, they called it quits. Drummer Mikkey Dee said "Motörhead is over, of course. Lemmy was Motörhead. We won't be doing
any more tours or anything. And there won't be any more records. But the brand survives, and Lemmy lives on in the hearts of everyone."
This song is a stroke of genius in rock history....
God love Moterhead. God Bless Lemmy. Rest In Peace . Man.
Saw this original line up King Georges hall Blackburn back in '80. One of the loudest concerts I've been to. What years they were, the NWOBHM. From 78 all through to 81/82. So good to watch youngsters listening, keeping it alive.
was there too the loudnest smashed the windows lol
I first heard this song in October 1980 and my life was never the same again.
Lemmy's voice is gritty and awesome the band is great saw them in 92' in little rock !!!

My favorite band. Since I first heard this song in 1983. I have tears in my eyes. I miss Lemmy.
Lemmy played his bass like a guitar and always sang head up. Motörhead - The Game, that is the theme song of Triple-H
Lemmy started as a guitar player in his first band. One night their bass player didn't show up to a gig, so Lemmy grabbed the guy's bass and played it. So began the legend that is Lemmy.
Lots of singers raise their head when singing. It helps with their breathing. One of the all time great vocalists, Brad Delp was another who sang with the mike above their mouth

"Who would win in a fight between Lemmy and God"? Love that part of Airheads
They are the first speed metal band. Listening to this song while driving makes you just want to push that pedal down.
They would have hated the term "Speed Metal" but they sure got through a lot of speed. Lemmy often said it was not so much recreational as a practicality to keep up with the touring schedule. "Dropped another handful, to keep us on the road" as one of their early lyrics put it.
“We are Motörhead. We play rock and roll.” 🤘🏽🎸
Lemmy started as Jimi Hendrix's guitar tech. LEMMY IS GOD!!!!
And apparently also his LSD dealer. Legend.
"I know that their energy is like, so up there" AMEN TO THAT, great reaction vid cheers.
The lead singer was known as Lemmy and he was Heavey Metal personified and was much loved and respected by Metal fans and the his peers around the world. He lived the real rock 'n' roll life style and was areal character. I implore you to listen to one of his interviews. It's fantastic that his music (which he only ever called Rock'n'roll) is still having an impact on a new generation.
“I don’t wanna live forever” sings Lemmy. Might as well enjoy whatever time you have instead of living a clean life and ending up a vegetable in a rest home. Who’s to say he’s wrong ?
Since you enjoyed this one, you should react to Motorhead - Overkill. The percussion is insane!
Lemmy loved gambling .He was addicted to fruit machines and always had one in his dressing room
'Lemmy' - 'Lem- me a quid' apparently was where his nickname came from (lend me a pound)
This song is proper full throttle rock music. Most songs have a fast slow fast maybe go to slow medium fast but this is full power full attack at top speed from the start and throughout not letting up.. So happy that these guys gave themselves the chance to hear this for the 1st time on here. Love your reactions to it..
One of my favorite versions of this.. from the "BBC Series The young Ones" . "To the station.." .. Opening chords of Ace Of Spades..
