So this 28 core isn't detecting 2 RAM channels, I decided to replace it with another 28 core just lying around. Then this 2080 ti fan is noisy, so I'll just replace it with a still wrapped 2080ti. Then I woke up from my wet dream.
Actually he had 2 for a project, provided by Intel, but then had to buy matched qualification samples because he dropped one of these and couldn't finish the project. So he has one that works and one that's broken anyway.
Super computer CPUs are easily 240T nowadays. Even though not all threads are created equally, as long as there's a consumer version of such chip come out, such record would become pretty pointless, like, it doesn't indicate performance in any way, just "might boost certain workflow" and that's it. (But then, we would have to question whether GPU should be considered a special type of CPU or not.) But otherwise, I have a feeling that it's possible to build a "small" form factor quad CPU workstation as long as you hand craft the whole case and thermal solution, but it's won't be very practical to build such system unless the main purpose is to brag about how many cores you jam in the case.
This is Xeon only, so the AMD equivalent would be Epyc. They launched 64 core/128 thread Epyc a couple days before this video dropped...what a coincidence. I'm sure ASRock will have an ITX motherboard for that in the next few months. Not sure if it will be featured on this channel though.
@@SimonWoodburyForget I think generally the case size is limited by thermal capacity most. Sure, you can have very small smart phones, but if you want to stack them up and run them like a computing farm, it's another story. Therefore it's probably best to just have a regular size case if there is enough room. And about portability, I think it'll become pointless when the form factor requires mandatory external cooling. Other than that, it's really just, how many people would actually need a portable render farm in a box. Therefore, portable small form factor computer with 5GHz i7 is probably a good idea (it's useful, which I guess you already agreed), portable small form factor 112 core quad Xeon, well, not really (even if someone can afford it I don't think it's really worth the trouble as it likely won't improve workflow).
As a developer, who often runs multiple VM's and/or docker containers at a time, and multiple.instances of Visual Studio and Resharper, this would actually make sense. Especially considering that I could bring it with me for on-site client work.
Because threads, and cores to a point, dont equal game smoothness, dimwit. That processor is for like servers and lots of small, complex strings, not ~gaming~. So he obviously could be a bit surprised. Even the highest games only use 3 threads max

@@ninjanippledog725 Mate...you're right to an extent, but you're just as dumb as him. No. Doom 2016 for ex supports up to 36 threads. Most games can take advantage of more than 4 threads now. This is why you don't see clock speeds bottlenecking games nearly as much as they have in the past.

I love these really unique components, it's a shame that the economy can't incentivise these kind of weird and wonderful products, I can't imagine ASRock was ever intending to make a profit on this.
The Asrock EPC621D4I-2M is designed specifically for short-depth server enclosures. It allows inferencing at the edge in a compact form factor, for very niche uses. Many design trade-offs were required, as noted in the beginning of your review.
I mean in like 5 years they'll probably be fairly cheap, because of the constant technological advancements of the modern computer industry, so you might hear it again.
i LOVE things like this. it makes an incredibly powerful workstation in a small form factor, making it even possible for portability. i dont think the motherboard was intended to be a server at all. i think its meant to be a light workstation.

Is there a Guinness World Record for "CPU threads per litre in a workstation?"?
If there is, I have a feeling threadripper is gonna take it, they already have ITX boards and 32 core / 64 thread CPUs, with 64/128 coming soon
@@MotoCat91 Is there threadripper ITX boards? I thought there wasn't any
Super computer CPUs are easily 240T nowadays. Even though not all threads are created equally, as long as there's a consumer version of such chip come out, such record would become pretty pointless, like, it doesn't indicate performance in any way, just "might boost certain workflow" and that's it. (But then, we would have to question whether GPU should be considered a special type of CPU or not.)
But otherwise, I have a feeling that it's possible to build a "small" form factor quad CPU workstation as long as you hand craft the whole case and thermal solution, but it's won't be very practical to build such system unless the main purpose is to brag about how many cores you jam in the case.
A lot of Linus' problems in this build basically just boil down to "I'm trying to game on a server board".

The CPU wasn't really made for gaming but I get what you mean by games running smoothly
He was expecting the motherboard to throttle them both
Because threads, and cores to a point, dont equal game smoothness, dimwit. That processor is for like servers and lots of small, complex strings, not ~gaming~. So he obviously could be a bit surprised. Even the highest games only use 3 threads max
@@ninjanippledog725 he has a 2080ti, he could use an i3 thats half dead and still run games perfectly "dimwit" welcome to the now toxic conversation a month late
@@ninjanippledog725 Mate...you're right to an extent, but you're just as dumb as him. No. Doom 2016 for ex supports up to 36 threads.
